Putting a 73 Back on the road. It has been a huge learning experience. 1st Nova I've owned. Been life long dream to have 1. The biggest lesson is that parts are very expensive and original are difficult to find .
Unfortunately,if I'm reading the parts world right, anything over 30 years old IS going to be hard to find parts for, because of the OEM sector. They want people to buy parts for their new shit piles, and they don't like when someone has an old car.
Simply amazing! Wish we could go back in time (to 1977) and have him repair my 71 Chevelle convertible that was scrapped because the entire floor gas pedal to trunk and rear shock towers were completely gone. I’m convinced he could do it.

Well now that you've turned a 4 door into a 1 door, let's see you turn a 2 door into a 6 door! A stretch nova would be pretty sweet! Call it the novazine 😂😂
If car guys just stuck with doing stuff that made sense I don't think the hobby would be where it's at. Enjoy the content, don't overthink it just see where you end up. Some of my best projects were created that way .
The cars you would use to do this with is are a more door from the desert that is rusting out on the top from the sun baking the paint off. And a 2 door from the salt belt that is rusting from the bottom up. This is the 2 cars to do this with. Or a nice more door and a salt belt car. Then the more door parts can be sold to recoup some cost. Starting out with a nice more door saves a lot of the nickel and dime costs of repairing floors and trunks and so on. The cars where you're at John, look like they're from the desert and the salt belt.😯 Rusted from the top to bottom. How do the bottoms rust out so bad down there? Must be really humid there all year round, salt moisture from the ocean perhaps?🤷😎👍
High humidity year round, leaves and pine straw get in to everything and collect moisture. We don’t usually have rusted frame rails but floor and trunk pans rust pretty bad when the weatherstripping is rotted out.
@@Shop209 Back in the day I had a 72 Duster that looked great from the top of the wheel lip on up. But it was a Fred Flintstone mobile so bad the leaf spring on one side rusted through in the rear and stuck up in the trunk. I used some rope to tie it to hold the back of the car up. And this was back in around 1985, when that turd was only 13 years old! Up here in the salt belt.🙄 The top and interior looked great though.😎👍
@@stomper2582 Sure, the ones that stay in the shade but the ones that don't the paint burns off and rusts like a mofo on the roof hood and deck lid. Plus the interiors get fried from the sun as well.😎👍
I know of an omega four door that’s sitting in a junkyard, been parted out. But the body is in decent shape. A friend of mine owns it. I keep looking at it, wondering if a two door could be made out of it.
I'd love to see this solid but ratty looking, with a ridiculous drivevtrain. Like a Chrysler BB and a Ford 10 3/4 rear end. Sprinkle in some fun and functional interior mods.
I cut the roof there before I ever thought about this conversion. The 2 door donor had no vin so I cut it in half when I bought it to make it easier to move and store. Then I decided to do this and was left with a mess.
No. In Georgia I’ll never have a problem with the Vin saying 4 Dr and it being a 2 Dr. The DMV never sees the car. I have a sheriff deputy come out and verify VIN and I take the bill of sale from the guy I bought car from and proof of insurance to the dmv. They register the car and give me tag.
I live in upstate NY, a tyrannical state by most criteria and I have built crew cab trucks out of 2 door trucks, VINs bear nothing on the registration. They only care enough to do a simple VIN search in a database to make sure it's not stolen in the United States.
Do you still have the doors for the four door? Iam looking into getting the left front door for me 1970 Nova. Depending on far a way you live I'm willing to drive out to you place. I live in Buckeye Arizona. Thank you.
I actually have a general question. Where is a good lift point and jack stand placement in a 68-74 nova? I heard the cradle was bad but it's okay if you use a plank of wood so it spreads the weight out, I've heard control arms, where the suffrage bushings are, I just don't want to destroy my cradle because I'm guilty of putting my jack there
Thanks!! Well, I typically jack the front up right in the middle of the subframe. I’ve never damaged one by jacking up there but I’ve never had one that wasn’t already bent up some either. I put jack stands under the subframe rails about 6 inches behind the angle part going up. On the rear it depends on what I’m working on. Either under housing pushing rear up if I need to keep tires at ride height in relation to car, or under rocker seam if I need to let rear hang.
@Shop209 thank you so much this helps a lot. I love all the content my nova is my car I'm going to learn on since I'm new to all this and your content makes everything so much easier. Very appreciated
