- From CD "Kelpie" (www.WestparkMusic.de) - The duo Kelpie consists of two renowned musicians from the Celtic-Scandinavian world-music scene. As well as concerts at major festivals and venues world-wide, they are in demand as composers, producers, arrangers and session musicians.
Kerstin Blodig studied musicology and Scandinavian languages and cultures in Berlin (Germany) and in Bergen (Norway) with particular emphasis on Norwegian folk music. She is involved in a wide variety of different projects, ranging from studio work, folk-pop and theatre music productions to the Celtic groups Norland Wind, Talking Water and Touchwood with Belfast musician Cristina Crawley.
Ian Melrose from Ayr in the Southwest of Scotland, belongs to the cream of Europe's acoustic guitarists. He is an internationally acclaimed composer and arranger, lead guitarist with Clannad (World Tour, Grammy Award winning CD "Landmarks"), and plays with Kerstin also in Norland Wind and Talking Water. A major aspect of his work is solo guitar: based on Celtic finger-picking style, his compositions blend Irish dances, Scottish ballads and classical formats with Brazilian samba and Argentine tango to create real world-music on the guitar.
JJ
1. This perforrnance killed even though I didn't understand a word of it.
2. She's gorgeous.
3. The only other traditional vocalist that I have heard and liked as much as her was Maddy Prior.
4. The guitar work was stellar.
5. The song was beautiful.
That's why it got five stars from me and is in my favorites now. Yes, even metalheads listen to folk music on occasion.
This needs no words. Superb singing, superb guitar support and phrasing. This is Kerstin and Ian caught in their roots - catching the spirit of folk tradition without boundaries. I love it!
Tolles Video - wunderbare Musik
Liebe Grüße an Euch beide,
Carmen
Great!!!
We need more of this album
So tastefully sung - and cleverly played...
Delightfully delivered, with a smile...

Lyrics from Kerstin Blodig herself. Apparently it's as easy as e-mailing her.
Kråka
(trad. arr. Blodig/Melrose)
Originally a children`s song, here`s recipe explaining how to respectfully ”recycle” an extremely
large, dead crow. This version comes from the region of Sunnmøre where people are said to
be very ”canny” about money and posessions!
Å mannen han gjekk seg i vedaskog
- sutta ti loti lenta -
I don't understand why metalheads listening to folk music is such a surprise to some people. I mean, there are a lot of groups that are extremely influenced by and use, folk music, black metal in particular, and that's one of the most extreme genres of metal.
1st verse Translation: And the man walked beside the woods.
There he saw a crow round and nice
The man he wanted to protect himself "I think the crow is gonna kill me"
He *verb for readying a bow to fire) his bow and fires at the crow so that she falls down.

You might also like, eivør, valravn and sorten muld. Not really the same, but also folk music.
To the man he found himself in wood forest
- cut ten loti lenta -
There he saw a crow in the grove like a wave
- cut ten loti lenta -
And the man he thought about himself
oh, think if that crow will kill me?
Then he spun his bow to knee
Then he shot that crowd so he dropped down
Then he spent the first twelve twelve
Then he drove to the crowd on the floor
And the flesh he salted in thinner and barrels
and the tongue he had for Christmas food
From the skin he made twelve pairs of shoes
the best couple he gave to mom
From the beak he did a church boat
so people could calm both of and ate
Of tarman he made twelve pairs of ropes
and the claws he used to muzzle
By augo he did stove glass
and the neck he put on church to stash
And the mouth he used to grind grain
and eyelash he used to tutahorn
And the heart he put on a fishing hook
and no one has seen such a fish he pulled
And the one who's crazy can benefit so
he is not worth a crow to get!
Has anyone got their version of the song 'Kelpie'?
europa is my dream
i want to send a video response with a song by kerstin blodig. but i dont know how because of this new design : |
What does she say in that phrase she keeps repeating?
It's not Swedish, it's Norweigan.
is that finish she is singing in?
Norwegian! :)
Lyrics, anyone? :D
Ja, it is Swedish.
no it's norwegian!
i'd be glad if somebody would help me :)
It seems like european folk and american blues mixed together.
Im pretty sure its swedish.
Norwegian! :)
This is a Norwegian folksong - the phrase she is repating means nothing..it`s just a phrase.
I LOVE this song and video, but someone needs to give that poor woman something to eat. Yikes, she is frail looking!
