This is such a great song. It's inconceivable that it didn't become a monster hit in the U.S. Good thing the Brits appreciated it a bit more and sent it to #19 on the charts.

This is one of those albums I can listen to over and over again and not get tired of it. Every song is absolutely brilliant. I will go to my grave not understanding why Nuno is not an international superstar. It doesn't make any sense. The dude is an absolute rhythm, lead, and solo genius. His melody and timing are impeccable.

Yeah - I'm sure he does and deservedly so ! Musicians will appreciate his artistry - it's the general music public and music critics ( even worse :( ) that miss the depth of his musicianship. Thanks for your perspective !

Robinson took a stance that they are "The Black Crowes" and the fans didn't come to see commercials or something to that effect. ZZ Top was being pressured by Miller and the Black Crowes dared them (Miller) to throw them off the tour, which they did. Three days later, the tour was in Atlanta and the shit really hit the fan with the story being front page news. In other words, The Black Crowes didn't feel like "selling out" and didn't have a contract with the Miller Brewing Company. Miller also didn't want the headache of the Black Crowes possibly mowing their grass because Chris Robinson also said he doesn't like or even drink Miller Lite. ZZ Top had the contract with Miller and were allowed to choose who they wanted to go on tour with them. When I finally saw ZZ Top five months later, they headlined with Extreme as their opening act and that was cool with me even though I saw them earlier in the summer with David Lee Roth and Cinderella.

Extreme is just amazing. One of my favorite bands of all time. I’m 18 now, and I’ve been in love with rock since I was a kid. My dad introduced me to rock through the guitar hero games when I was 5, and since then I’ve been chasing the music. Extreme is criminally underrated. I’ll hopefully be seeing them this summer. Play with Me was my favorite song when I was 6, so seeing it live will probably break my mind. Rock is just life, man. It’s so much better than music nowadays. Rock is my little getaway from reality.
I always loved Extreme and Nuno is easily top 5 to me. I am 50 and can't wait to see them and Living Colour in Denver. It will be like time traveling back to the 90s. Both bands are amazing live.

I remember when I got this CD and started playing it. loudly, in my room. My Mom gave me n earful about the chorus. You know the "funk out" part. She said, "you know what they are saying right?!". I sure do, mother....and I handed out the lyrics...."funk out, huh", she said. "Right....", she added. She handed the lyrics back and said "Im not a dummy you know, but okay. Clever, but these guys know how it REALLY sounds. The music is good though". I LOLed the rest of that evening... :)
All solos on this album are gold. Nuno is one of best shredders, lots of musical ideas and originality. Also how he makes it groove, compared to many similar players. He plays interesting rhythm patterns, instead of trying to play fast all the time and smothering the solos with notes
Nuno's solo here is top 5 of all time. I don't care about difficulty or technique. When I listen to a guitar solo, fast or slow, its all about how does it make me feel. That is the point of music. Nuno can make that guitar an extension of his soul. That is the mark of a great. Like eddie. Or Jimmy.
Everytime I listen to this masterpiece I always discover something new. Just use the headphones and pay attention to the small details both music and production. Most underrated band
+AstroKnott So is Nuno . . . as a vocalist. Reminds me of Jerry Cantrell and Brian May & Roger Taylor. So often the other singers in a band are a revelation.
+AstroKnott The whole band was underrated. These guys are all monster musicians. It's just sad they didn't blow up as much as they should have, due to their timing. They hit the scene too far in the later years of this genre's life.
You can't compare the two. They are 2 different songs that are at the opposite end of each. One is an acoustic love song and the other is a great metal rock song that has probably the best guitar solo the world has ever seen. Both great songs in their own style.

I was in the living room with my boxer shorts on,volume full blast, air guitaring to Nuno's amazing guitar solo with my grandfathers walking cane. I still love this entire CD. I was 17 when it came out in (I think) '90. This song in particular has a special place in my "best memories." Myself and a group of buddys gathered the courage, and cash, to make our first trip to The Great Alaskan Bush Company in Phoenix AZ in 1991. I will always remember this song playing and the dancer, Cinnamon. It was a night I'll definitely never forget! Tons of great memories from the early-mid 90s and this CD is always right there. Thanks to all of you guys for years of sharing your talent. Gary, I've been a fan for a long time and really liked you with Van Halen. And that's coming from a guy who's been a VH fan since Diver Down. Nuno, same to ya and think your solo on For the River is amazing. Thanks again and it's awesome you're all still out there doing what you do so well.
That whole album is great. Catchy and fun at exactly the right times, soft and thoughtful at the right times, and rather metal when it came time to impress the guitar enthusiasts. The album would suck without the horns section, though. That was something Extreme had that noone else had- HORNS.... and it makes a big difference.
This song is TREMENDOUS. I'm not about to argue with Brian May, either - that IS the epitome of what a solo should be. There's a little run in it - 3:11 to 3:14 - that is the same run found in a sax solo in Prince's "Hot Thing" (4:38 to 4:41 in the Prince video for "Hot Thing" if you're interested). At first I thought that was a happy coincidence but then I read that Prince was one of Nuno's influences. As far as I'm concerned, Nuno went deep into the Prince catalog, found one of the funkiest phrases in it, and used it in one of the best rock solos I've ever heard. Nuno is my new favorite guitar player these days.
Yeah, check out May's analysis of the solo at ua-cam.com/video/fqkKFhFMaIw/v-deo.html. It's amazing to hear May say that this solo is a landmark performance that he could never duplicate. Considering that May is a guitar god for his work in Queen, that's high praise indeed.
Brass is underutilised in rock. I can think of a few bands that use it, and there are some notable exceptions such as the song Baker Street but it could have been a much bigger part of it. Most rock is based around strings (bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar) + a drummer.
I have NEVER heard Nuno play a solo that sounded "forced" in any way! That in it's self reveals the true genius of his guitar work. SO many songs, I have heard ALL of Extreme and this still amazes me!
The song never gets old. Hands up if you're listening to Extreme in 2024!

Gary Cherone is one underrated and unappreciated vocalist. The guy has always been incredible in my humble opinion.

Nuno's solo here is top 5 of all time. I don't care about difficulty or technique. When I listen to a guitar solo, fast or slow, its all about how does it make me feel. That is the point of music. Nuno can make that guitar an extension of his soul. That is the mark of a great. Like eddie. Or Jimmy.

+AstroKnott So is Nuno . . . as a vocalist. Reminds me of Jerry Cantrell and Brian May & Roger Taylor. So often the other singers in a band are a revelation.
+AstroKnott The whole band was underrated. These guys are all monster musicians. It's just sad they didn't blow up as much as they should have, due to their timing. They hit the scene too far in the later years of this genre's life.

You can't compare the two. They are 2 different songs that are at the opposite end of each. One is an acoustic love song and the other is a great metal rock song that has probably the best guitar solo the world has ever seen. Both great songs in their own style.

Damn. Extreme was one of my favorite bands in the 90s. Wish I could have seen them live before Cherone imploded. What a force - they had such incredible energy.
This was playing on Super Channel heavy rotation waaay back in the day. I was in the living room with my boxer shorts on,volume full blast, air guitaring to Nuno's amazing guitar solo with my grandfathers walking cane. Apparently pops forgot his cane and returned home with my mom to get it. ill never forget the look on their faces. :)))

I still love this entire CD. I was 17 when it came out in (I think) '90. This song in particular has a special place in my "best memories." Myself and a group of buddys gathered the courage, and cash, to make our first trip to The Great Alaskan Bush Company in Phoenix AZ in 1991. I will always remember this song playing and the dancer, Cinnamon. It was a night I'll definitely never forget!
Tons of great memories from the early-mid 90s and this CD is always right there.

Nunos guitar solo is one of my favourite solos...its brilliant👏👏
That whole album is great. Catchy and fun at exactly the right times, soft and thoughtful at the right times, and rather metal when it came time to impress the guitar enthusiasts. The album would suck without the horns section, though. That was something Extreme had that noone else had- HORNS.... and it makes a big difference.
Perhaps they were inspired by Chicago.

Saw this lot in Belfast in 1993. Underrated. Nuno Bettencourt was an awesome guitarist.
This song is TREMENDOUS. I'm not about to argue with Brian May, either - that IS the epitome of what a solo should be.
There's a little run in it - 3:11 to 3:14 - that is the same run found in a sax solo in Prince's "Hot Thing" (4:38 to 4:41 in the Prince video for "Hot Thing" if you're interested). At first I thought that was a happy coincidence but then I read that Prince was one of Nuno's influences. As far as I'm concerned, Nuno went deep into the Prince catalog, found one of the funkiest phrases in it, and used it in one of the best rock solos I've ever heard.
Nuno is my new favorite guitar player these days.

Brass is underutilised in rock. I can think of a few bands that use it, and there are some notable exceptions such as the song Baker Street but it could have been a much bigger part of it. Most rock is based around strings (bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar) + a drummer.
I have NEVER heard Nuno play a solo that sounded "forced" in any way! That in it's self reveals the true genius of his guitar work. SO many songs, I have heard ALL of Extreme and this still amazes me!
This song kicks ass on so many levels!
