People (ie 'guitar players') get way too caught up in that mythological tube tone thing, and forget to just listen. So many tones on albums are solid state amps and digital modelling. Line 6 has been killing it for decades.
True story! I think mostly it’s about feel, the main difference to me is in terms of latency and sensitivity. But I was very impressed with the results. Some of my favourite players use a Roland jazz chorus as a clean platform, and it’s absolutely amazing to hear those clean tones from it, not to mention the chorus effect itself.
I remember jamming with a mate back when this first came out. I had my old Laney tube amp and he just had this into studio monitors. I was blown away how good it sounded. I play a helix now!
I ran a POD 2.0 and Tube Screamer pedal into a solid state Marshall head for live gigs for years. No one knew the difference, even fooled a couple of guitar players in other bands on the bill into thinking I was using a hot-rodded Marshall tube head! One simply refused to believe that the sound was coming from the little red bean!
Thanks for watching my video and sharing with us your feedback! It means a lot! If you don’t mind me asking, how did you run it? Did you use the send/return on the amp? Direct mode or air? And signal chain? Last question, do you have videos using you gear that way?
@@GlaucoAlves I plugged it into the back of a Marshall solid state head, just used the power, all the tones came from the POD and Tube Screamer at the end. I’m sure there were better ways to do it, but that’s what worked. How can I send you links without pasting in this thread?
I used the pod 2.0 for years on the road in tandem with a Behringer FCB-1010...was an awesome setup. I also used the PC software to tweak and get the most out of it for my patches. I own a 1999 POD which I got the 2.0 eprom free from Line6, then a Bass POD (black bean), POD xT, GuitarPort, POD HD500X and PodGo. Original owner of all, still use them and have been using them in recordings since the beginning, in addition to real amps. I also have a couple of BOSS GT units but never really worked for me on record... There's something about the POD's that makes it feel a bit more authentic, especially when paired with a real amp. I don't usually use the effects built in when recording, but for practice and jamming, they deliver. With the older ones I use a Beringer FC1010 MIDI Controller for patch changes and turning effects on and off... I'm not knocking the Fractals, the Kempers, etc., but the POD certainly gets you up and running... Oh, I also own a Johnson J-Station; it's not bad, but it sounds digital and a little harsh...
Just bought my one. It's my first gadget for a newbie on guitar. Very fun and keeps me motivated to explore the instrument, because I was already geeting borrowed while I can't play well. I got an used one by 45 euro.
My original 2000 Pod is hard wired into my digital recorder. I use it for every guitar and bass track I record. I just got a backup for $40 to use as the front end to my JC-120 stereo power amp inputs for big gigs.
Still have Both my pod and pod 2.0 Also had the Vox avt120 Pod great for Fender tones, the Vox Great for British tones ( Brian May EVh and Page) Vox had stereo Effects return so I could plug pod into Vox and have best of both through high headroom clean Vox Power Amp. Got the idea after seeing The Who tribute band and Floyd tribute band who both used an amp with the kidney bean slotted in and di’d into PA. Great video
I've had a 2.0 NOS for 15 years, never used it...have a pro studio now and a collection of nice combo amps so..... well...I forgot about it till recently, pulled it out, and just yesterday bought the pedalboard off eBay because - obvious!! Anyway, I'm just saying I'm really glad I hung onto it - what is the pedal like? seems a great add...
Awesome demo. This lil box is truly inspiring. I got mine for 50 euros...simply love the tone you get if you are patient enough to explore all the amps and cabs it offers. For the hendrix tone it seemed you used a phaser, but the pod has only two chorus and flanger effects and no phaser...so did you use an external pedal or just tweaked the pod? Thanx a lot, good job man!
Thanks for watching and for sharing your views! For that "phase" like tone, I have used the Rotary mode and tried to match the feel of a univibe by using the tap tempo and the effect volume.
Yes, agree on that! But I’ve never used it through and amp tbh. If maybe my studio monitors were great I’d have tried it but with the ones I have it would be a waste of time. They work for “finished” projects. If something sounds good trough it, it will sound amazing anywhere else 🤣
Howdy buddy and thanks for watching! My tip to sound like Slash on AFD would be possible using one of the Marshall amps (British mode) possibly the classic one and mess with the EQ and try to find a “plate” delay on it to add some more gain. Noticed that Slash’s tone on the entire record is pretty bright, and even when using the neck pickup the tone is still clear and defined. You’ll need to find a good balance between drive and volume as his tone isn’t as distorted as it seems. And most importantly it will depend how are you using your pod, desk or interface and obviously speakers. That all will play a role on your tone as well as guitar and your touch. I hope that was helpful 🙏👍
Howdy! Oh that's a good question! Since I had little info about the amplifier used on the original Nancy Sinatra version, I went all the way with my "Tweed Blues" mode, which resembles a Fender Bassman. For the actual tremolo effect I was closer but a bit slower than the original, for that I was pretty much tapping on it until it sounded "right". to my ears. But yep, My tremolo speed here isn't accurate at all lol. Thanks for stopping by!
Straight into my interface using Logic X. No post EQ or effects, just the POD. They are still great working tools, no doubt! Hard to beat the price too. Thanks for watching!
