The whole section running away from the tank and specifically the moment from 9:41 to 9:55 is SO INTERESTING TO ME because one of my biggest wonders while developing games would be to make those seamless Naughty Dog transitions from area to area with a perfect animation that mixes with gameplay. Seeing how they simply freeze nate in development and focus on the macro movements from area to area is genius because then they would “”only”” need to match timing and animations, as opposed to working with a big animation and having to shoe horn it into the environment. These things are so obvious in hindsight but it’s amazing how much simple stuff you actually need to learn or see if you want to get into game development.
they're just testing out the tank without Drake's cutscene anims, all that running and climbing anims are the core anims for Drake's movement so they would be there in the earliest stage of making the game. U dont have to write a whole damn essay for that lol
@@ssen3147 I don't think you understood my point, I was talking about the transistions between scenes. The moment where nate is thrown off the building and lands on the other side of the island, my point was about matching the timing of the animation of nate falling and the actual physics of the fall. If you've ever worked with animations you'll know it's a pain in the ass matching the two things, and I found it clever how they froze nate, (probably) captured the timing based on the physics and (probably) matched the animation manually according to those timings. I wrote another essay, sorry.
I guess it's natural when you work on a thing for a bunch and have to scrap it, but at the same time, while cool, the original ship idea seems wasted on a linear shooter game like this, as you're not gonna be able to experience stuff like the destruction mechanic to its full extent due to the game's linear nature. It was certainly ambitious but perhaps too much for its own good, I can see this idea being more valuable to another type of game, but not in a glorified shooting gallery such as Uncharted.
Were they showing development on Twitch at 7:15 to 11:36 o_o, also wonder if the really early development is from Amy Hennig's development team. Wish I saw that version come out :/, I heard initially Uncharted 4 wasn't gonna be the end of Nathan Drake's saga.
That footage was uploaded to youtube by a Naughty Dog employee, the viewer numbers that pop up is because ND employees sometimes livestream stuff to show to the rest of the staff (Not public livestreams obviously). The other real early stuff is from the Amy Hennig era of Uncharted 4.
@@mukilamuty Out if their scope? They had the entire destructible ship completed. It was only scrapped because Druckman and Straley took over production.
@@Yeahimman32 maybe, the ship crashed on the cave and Avery and his crew, might wall climb and build Libertalia. But overall, the game is still a masterpiece
I wasn't expecting to get much insight into the production, but learning that there was a section where we played as Avery in the past, wow. can't say that would've been a good idea though, but it's interesting how much the game changed. The other uncharted never showed us stuff from the perspective of the historical figures because it actually works better, keeps us close to Nate's perspective. plus, in this case, the mysticism around Avery works better if we don't actually see it first hand, and the guy was a complete psychopath, it would be the same as playing as Lazarevich in Uncharted 2, it would be a bit weird to play as a villain in an uncharted game.
I believe that's a debug graph for memory usage or something like that. The stamina bar was more like a shaking screen effect, although I haven't found any public footage of it yet.
It is actually criminal that you did not use The Twelve Towers at any point in the video lmao Nice job collecting this all and putting it together. Although I can't really say I wish any of this was still in game (the only thing I'm sad got cut was the stamina system. I don't like how everyone just spams X at every single climbable portion) Like, of course the devs' work on The Fancy shouldn't have gone down the drain that easy, but at the same time, we just can't say it would've made the game better. It would've just been different. From how the dev talks about it, seems like The Fancy appearing on the present day was not actually planned until so close to shipping the game? Really makes you wonder how different the game was gonna be. But that's it, it's not worse for being different

The best real story related DLC we never got. The pirate battle and founding of Libertalia with Henry Avery and his crew.
Uncharted 4 is already a masterpiece. Imagine with all the content that got cut.

Nate T posing and falling flat on his face is something I didn’t know I needed to see but I’m glad I did 😂
Why is no one talking about 2:04, it looks like Uncharted 1 Remastered, I think it must be from Amy Hennings version.
Exactly it is Amy’s version before it was repurposed to libertalia. The statue you see is Javanese where the story would have taken place
at the end, you can hear the dev is really sad about cutting the ship level.
For sure the game could've used a grand ending like he describes

Damn! I hope they make more uncharted games at some point.
The Henry Avery flashback would've been so goddamn cool
That actually makes me sick that we could have gotten an entire pirate battle and they just scrapped it.
that was out of their scope

Amazing! Talking about the game, are you getting into the PC modding already? Just curious.
I'm mainly waiting until the debug menu restoration is complete. Testing mods without debug mode is very tedious.

Graphics downgrade, content got changed and cut, I think in other universe fans may really got the uncharted 4 hannig version
Pinpoint the "graphics downgrade", because I cannot spot no graphics downgrade between anything in this video and the full game
