Ist me Menge Arbeit😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💥😉❤️
Thank you so much for this, 1979 is one of my favourite years ever in music! Tragedy, I Will Survive, The Logical Song, Maybe, & Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! are my personal faves. There are also half a dozen songs that I need to check out because they sound great from the snippet.
HELLO DJ FRANCIS THANKS FOR SHARING VERY GOOOOOOD THE TOP MUSICAL 1974 FELICITACIONES LE GUSTO MUCHO A MI PADRE GRACIAS TOTALES EL ES DOCTOR Y COMPARTIÓ CON SUS COLEGAS 💃💃💃🤗🤗🤗🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼👏👏👏👏🎤🎧🎵💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍
These songs from 1979 had everything : energy, "heat", sounds, good voices, melodies and charisma. Today's songs still have a certain energy, but are colder, ironed out, above all the "hot", the positive "burning" is missing .
Thanks for this! I remember at the Sylvester-Party by my Grandma with my first great love Sabine (at this time we both were 9 years) Great Music: Todesengel, Sun of Jamaika, Confusion, etc. Now i have tears in my eyes, because i remember at my first great love! 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks so much. My step-father died on 14.6.1979 in East-Germany very young when I was 5. I was always wondering which songs he was still able to know / listen.
Again it brings back great memories. Funny to see that classic songs sometimes originally were pretty low in the charts and other were totally forgotten!
Amazing! In ´79 Kiss had a bigger hit than Abba, Queen, Village People, Baccara or AC/DC. In my calculations, *i was made for lovin' you* was 10th biggest hit in Germany in that year
KISS' "I Was Made For Loving You" was a massive hit in Europe, Australia, Canada, South Africa and Latin America in 1979, and a decent one in their homeland, peaking at #11 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Great year for the masked men!
Thanks as usual! I've been waiting for 11:01, a song that contains everything I could expect from German pop muzik at that time:) I was quite shocked to discover that 16:19 actually made the German chart, because their international career was assumed to be a failure. This song however can't bear comparison to compositions they wrote by themselves and turned them into hits in PL - from folk music to the synthpop.
Merci bien! Great 1979 German chart compilation. My pesonal favourite song on this video is "When the Boys Come Home" sung by British girl trio A la Carte. I'll wait for German chart 1980 video. But Germany chart is from 1980 to 1989 Top 75. Then Top 100.
So, here we've got one song from Poland 😉 2 plus 1 was a Polish 3-piece act that had split in 1992 after their leader's death. His name was Janusz Kruk, he's "the left one", the other man ("the right one") was Cezary Szlązak and the lady between them is Elżbieta Dmoch, the one and only from them who is alive. That song ("Easy Come, Easy Go") and their other English songs, they were produced by German producers. In Poland they were well known as folk/pop band that switched to electropop in 1983. Nowadays, there is a band called 2 plus 1, that starter as revival of that 70s and 80s band, fronted by Cezary Szlązak from 1997 till his death in 2019, but for 20 years without Elżbieta Dmoch (she quit in 1999).
Some of those Germany only charting songs were pretty cool. Especially the disco ones. So happy to see Kiss went all the way to #1. So sad to see no Cars on this list. "Let's Go" was my personal favorite from 1979.
One thing I notice in many of these video's is that there is so much German "Schlager". No wonder it took you an age to win at Eurovision and another age to win the second time.
Wow! Some great songs. German music had its highlights, but too many schlager songs and those random covers. NDW gave it a needed kick up the ass. I know it's not to everyone's taste but 'Bright Eyes' is a wonderful song and a heartbreaking ballad. Glad it was rewarded with a top three position. It was the best selling in the UK that year. Probably the strongest year of the 70s imo. I never knew Mirelle Mathieu sang in German!
8:10,13:43 Baccara even though their songs in 1979 didn't get too much big hit in Germany at that time, i love that they still invited in the german shows like ZDF Disco, Musikladen, Hitparade, Starparade, Silvesterparty, seems like genre Disco is fading between '79 and '80 that's why some greats disco songs is in low charts
Hi, Thanks for this sharing. Helpful for me because I am new comer in Germany, always nice to have a pop culture background of a country. Just one short question: I don't see the massive worldwide hit of Pink Floyd "Another brick in the Wall part II" in the entry of december 1979, this song has entry later? In wikipedia it's mentioned this song was n°1 in Germany and stayed about 34 weeks in the charts. I am looking forward to watching the 80's years now :)
So many songs here sung in English! But sometimes there are versions of songs sung in German.

You better like disco in 1979, which obviously peaked that year, but there's quite a bit even if you consider that a _Tragedy_ or _Don't Like Mondays. (Don't bring me down - Maybe? Whatever you want...)_ A whole bunch of big, classic hits in here to offset the usual share of crap. Runs like 9:30 to 10:00 and 11:13 to 12:00, you just don't see that every day.
Perhaps it is because listeners of bands like Police bought full albums instead of singles. I remember from late 70th that almost everybody around me owned the first two albums as it is was both: A fresh new sound played by excellent musicians. P.S.: I just had a look in Wikipedia and they tell me "Regatta De Blanc" was 80 weeks member of the German album charts with a peak of 16 (#1 in UK). And Police never ever had a #1 hit in Germany (best position #8 with "Every Breath You Take" in 1983) but great positions in the album charts.
Seen many bands in the famous Glasgow Apollo Theater. I remember seeing Kraftwerk and a band called Neckter they we're a supporting band. Bought there LP still listen to it today, the memories come back I'm 63 now and the music of today is crap🎸🎤👍🍾🐕🎄
I love this! Are you gonna do the 80ties as well in this style? I really hope so, there is a song from a guy/band from the 80ties that I always heard when we went on vacation to Germany in the late 80ties, so I can't wait to hear it again, it sadly wasn't a hit in the Netherlands so i'm left in the dark what the song is. Where do you find all these old charts of Germany?
It is really best that Germans keep doing what they are really good at and leave making music to those nations that are really good in that field. i.e. Britain and the U.S.A.
I thought the German charts only contained song of Destruction and Mayhem..Zank you.. I'm surprised that the truth is much, much, MUCH worse.. (Auf wiedersehen and we won't meet again..)

As an American, I have heard at least 30 of the songs. There was a lot of ABBA and Boney M that year. I was 13 in 1979.

The world of today is a total mess! The downfall has begun after end of the Berlin Wall ... a few years later the first problems arise ...
Wo haben Sie die letzten 45 Jahre gelebt?

Great work. Good year in music. Disco music was the queen and I love this genre

Failed completely in the U.K. I think we were either Disco or Punk, with very few exceptions.
Grief...mexican girl by some other oke...then theres Exile and Promises to make us smile again...
Thanks for this show...
Born To Be Alive is the best of them all.
One thing I have notice watching these videos, is that there was a prosperous market in German language cover versions going on in the 70s and 80s.
Thanks as usual! 1979 great musical year, my child 9 years old remember all hits funny party of my sisters and brother.

This was the best Time of my Live 😎😎👍👍👍👍
Gotta love those songs that were originally in English that were translated into German and covered by German singers (usually pretty badly too lol).
You don't have to be in the top 10 to be remebered 45 years later.
Oh my the stuff we listened to in those days
Some of those Germany only charting songs were pretty cool. Especially the disco ones. So happy to see Kiss went all the way to #1. So sad to see no Cars on this list. "Let's Go" was my personal favorite from 1979.
Kiss went #1 because they adapted to disco :D
Kiss peaked because the song is great

Long live dschinghis khan the Best group ever
It's interesting to see American groups liked abroad.
American music is very popular in Germany since the 1960s! 👍
I loved funk and black music in theses years ... and KISS 🤗 (I was 12 in 1979)
Remember many of these while a n American high school student living in West Germany.
Thanks For Sharing!

The best songs that have lasted over the decades didnt fare well in the german charts!

Beside some exceptions it's pretty clear that the Neue Deutsche Welle was urgently needed.

1979 the key year. Crossway in music and history. Very funny entries some smelly and cheesy pleased the german audience.
How are these ranked or are they in any order with the stats? Interesting music.
It seems it's by chronological order that they appeared in the charts. The first songs in the video appeared in January and the last in December.
