Thank you for this fantastic flashback! I'm flabbergasted that 'Looking for Freedom', which was a huge number one hit for David Hasselhoff in Germany in 1988, was actually a remake, with the original version released 10 years earlier!
Its a great memories. Abba, Boney M., Smokie, Baccara, Amanda Lear, Luv and Donna Summer is my favourites on this video. I'll wait for the video German chart entries 1979. I like German chart. ❤️
HELLO DJ FRANCIS THANK YOU THIS FANTÁSTIC VERY GOOOOOOD THE SONG 1978 A FATHER LE GUSTO MUCHOOO FELICITACIONES Y GRACIAS TOTALES 💃💃💃🤗🤗🎵🎤👏👏👏💯💯💯💯😃😃🎼🎼🎼👍👍👍👍👍
The music of the 70's is amazing (Rivers of Babylon, Let's All Chant, etc ...) Considering that there were also very good German musicians in that period !!! Great video!!!
Wow! I remember at this time! 1978 i was 8 years and on 16th of September 78 i met my first love - Sabine (she was 8 years too). It was Love at first sight!
This is fantastic. I love Germany and my girlfriend is from Austria. I am Australian man and I love how you do these .so good too see other countries hits
Fantastic vídeo. Those were the Big years for Bonney and ABBA in Europe. They were soooo Big. Both were fabulous. Un the other hand Donna Summer in the US was huge... The Queen of Disco. By the way Grease the movie album is one of the best in pop music, with the unforgettable Olivia Newton Jhon
Baccara 1:195:4014:38 , ABBA 1:256:3911:42, Kate Bush 4:08 and Olivia Newton-John, 7:10, 12:12 are my favorite artists❤️ 1978 is such an amazing year so many big stars that has hit in Germany
Well, you didn't really have to look beyond A ( Abba) and B (Bee Gees, Boney M) to make this selection, but many thanks for your contribution to my guilty pleasure memories. Ja Twoj sługa - 8:04
So remarkable how almost every German entry is a whiney cheesy ballad, with one notable exception, which is Kraftwerk, the most modern sounding song of all entries.
That's actually not true, if you look at the songs that reached the highest positions, almost everything was disco music, by the way, Dee D Jackson's songs have a much more modern and influential production than Kraftwerk's.
A good reminder that the charts have always been mostly bad with a few highlights. Nostalgia remembers the good acts but (thankfully) forgets stuff like the Skateboard song and disco House of the Rising Sun
Great idea to present all of the singles of a year! Brings back lotsa memories. May I suggest to let the snippets double of time?? Anyway, I love it!!!
Growing up in the UK, as a 7 year old in 1978, my memories are Its a heartache, Dancing in the City, Rivers of Babylon, Grease & Substitute by Clout. Nice to know these still stand out. Definitely some awful German versions of widely known songs though!!
Lay LOVE on you 2:38. Give LOVE a second chance 9:12.

Du Die Wanne Ist Voll = You're The One That I Want
Great eclectic mix there. Very watchable.
Germans definitely knew a hit (Rivers of Babylon) when they heard it. It's tragic that we in the U.S. missed the boat entirely on that classic.
Boney M. was actually a group from Germany produced by Frank Farian who later also produced Milli Vanilli ("Girl You Know It’s True")
This is fantastic. I love Germany and my girlfriend is from Austria. I am Australian man and I love how you do these .so good too see other countries hits

Heidi war selbst 2005 noch ein Hit. Einfach hammer Stimme.
Fantástica Música!!⭐⭐⭐
❤️❤️❤️💛💛⭐⭐🙏🙏
A foreign artist have a hit and one or two months later a german makes a cover, lots of them
4:07 Wencke Myrhhe : german cover of "It's a Heartache"
7:32 Benny : german cover of "ça plane pour moi"
So remarkable how almost every German entry is a whiney cheesy ballad, with one notable exception, which is Kraftwerk, the most modern sounding song of all entries.
not true, they're into mediocre dance music as well, hence Boney M. Still they also liked ELO's "Mr Blue Sky" so obviously some of them have taste.
@@racketman2u I don’t think you’ve understood my point, but whatever.

Ich liebe Deine Videos. Die viele Arbeit lohnt sich 👍☺️
Merci francis👍👏🤗
For me.....tu....umberto tozzi ever!!!!!!
Gitti & Erika - Heidi also was the theme song for the German dub of Isao Takahata's animé series, based on Johanna Spyri's novel, _Heidi_ (1974)
Sheila and B.Devotion "I'm singing in the rain" and just after, Eruption "I can't stand the rain" ! 😄
Can you do this for the years 1976 and 1975 as well? Really great compilation - songs with a rare appearance in radio.
Didn't know until now that Looking for Freedom was written by a German. Makes all the sense now about Hasselhoff singing it in 1989
Oh, I loved Rosetta Stone!
Bulldozer by Oliver Onions is the best of this year.
not everything was better in the past. but definitely the music
Bloody sight better than now. Without a doubt....
Just give the bits a few seconds more... then this is would be perfect video... But thats a copyright thing, right? Great work though!
Yes snippets are short to avoid copyright restrictions
A good reminder that the charts have always been mostly bad with a few highlights. Nostalgia remembers the good acts but (thankfully) forgets stuff like the Skateboard song and disco House of the Rising Sun
You should do “UK Single Charts Flashback: 12/31/1979”.
why ...
Great idea to present all of the singles of a year! Brings back lotsa memories.
May I suggest to let the snippets double of time??
Anyway, I love it!!!
Thanks for the kind comment, but I can't make longer snippets because of copyright restrictions.
@@francispelletier3647 thanks for your reply. Yeah, I knew it...
Nevertheless great work!!!
@@francispelletier3647 i didn't know thee Smurfs came from the 70's 1:43

Only a few songs peak #1, it is not Top Singles. Top Singles should be all #1 for the whole year.
Bin Wieder Frei = Ça Plane Pour Moi
Die Legende Von Babylon = The Rivers Of Babylon
Many too many is a Genesis-Song, not by Phil Collins.
"Summer Night City" was released early fall by ABBA, clearly a missed chance to make it a summer hit bearing the right title ....😄
Lay LOVE on you 2:38.

0:25 this song is a cover of another song, right?? does anyone know the name of the original song?
Not a cover, but uses the same melody and refrain as "Witch Doctor" by David Seville from 1958.
@@SluttChops ohh thanks so much!! i used to listen to that song a lot, so this makes sense!
Gruselig
what no Grobschitt ...

This is the Single Charts , LP Charts are totally different
true almost everywhere, popularity does not equal quality.
Benny's Skateboard is a direct rip off of David Seville's song "Witch Doctor."
I was a dj in wolfsburg in 79 /81. Believe me the music in the discos was absolutely bloody awful..the only decent home grown group was Supermax....
That 'Skateboard' song is truly awful!
