    There was originally supposed to be four of them but the fourth one was played by Eddie Murphy. He wasn't available for filming in the beginning so they wrote his part out.

    Greatest ever piece of work by Canadian national hero Dan Aykroyd. I loved this so much when I was a kid and it came out, but I didn't discover until many years later that Dan is from a Spiritualist family and knows more about ghost lore than almost anyone alive. A lot of those odd references that he put in the script are things only hardcore ghost followers would know about.

    This movie was so HUGE when it came out in June of '84. It was THE summer blockbuster. Murray and Ackroyd, comedy, action, horror...and a love story (sort of). Great family fun. A hit theme song that went to #1 in the US and UK for 3 weeks and a music video in heavy rotation. A wonderful, marketable graphic for tons of merchandise..t shirts, lunchboxes, .. and try and guess how many thousands of people were Ghostbusters for Halloween.

    My theory is that ectoplasmic slime is marshmallow repellent.
    Early on, Slimer slimes Venkman. Covered head to toe in ectoplasmic slime.
    Cut to the end of the movie. They cross the streams, and the marshmallow man explodes. Marshmallow everywhere. The other three are covered in it. But Venkman, who was standing right there with them, has a little bit on his hair and on his backpack.
    How could he possibly have so little marshmallow on him when everything and everyone else was covered in it? Marshmallow-repelling ectoplasmic slime residue. :)

    Hopefully another convert to the original classics. The background stuff is just as interesting as the film itself. John Belushi (Animal House, Blues Brothers) was originally supposed to be Peter Venkman, but he OD'd & died so the part was re-written for Murray. It's been said that Slimer is/was an ode to the kinds of characters Belushi tended to play. if I could visit alternate Earths, I'd like to see the one where Belushi lived to play Venkman, I can almost guarantee that the overall energy of the film would be MUCH different. Eddie Murphy was supposed to be Winston, but he had scheduling conflicts (he was working on Beverly Hills Cop). I think they waited up until the "last minute" to get him, which is why Winston has so few lines (Murphy at the time had a reputation for ad-libbing). John Candy was supposed to have the role that Rick Moranis wound up getting, but he wanted to play the character as a Frenchman or German for some reason. If you pause the movie at just the right moment near the end, you'll catch a glimpse of a young Ron Jeremy. Lastly, the "marshmallows" the characters were covered in at the end, that was actually shaving cream.

    • @TaraTunesIn
      @TaraTunesIn  2 роки тому +1

      Wow thanks for all the tidbits!! So much goes into setting up a film, I rarely think about all the actors that MAY have played in these roles before they landed on the final choice! I'd love to see some movies made with the alternate actor choices, just to see how different they'd be!

    • @Harrison11106
      @Harrison11106 2 роки тому +1

      @@TaraTunesIn There's lots of "what ifs", & not just with this franchise. Do you know any Bond fans? Here's something they might not know: Burt Reynolds was supposed to be the Roger Moore Bond, but like Eddie Murphy he had scheduling conflicts (he was working on Smokey & the Bandit), so he said no to the role. Years later he always kicked himself over it.
      The original Alien movie had an alternate cut that only the preview/test audiences saw. In that cut, the Alien actually killed the entire Nostromo crew. The movie ends as a rescue ship is approaching the Nostromo, with the Alien mimicking one of the now dead crew members to draw it in. The preview/test audiences didn't like that ending, so we got the one we all know. Zack Snyders Justice league gives me hope that THAT ending is in some archive somewhere waiting to be re-seen.
      Now I bring you to First Blood, it's alternate ending was supposed to mimic the book, where either Rambo kills himself (overcome by the PTSD trauma), or Troutman blows his brains out. Like with the alternate cut of Alien, the audiences didn't like that bleak ending, & so a franchise was born.

      @Caseytify 2 роки тому

      Yes, the 2016 reboot pales in comparison, although I loved Kate McKinnon, and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) had a great comic turn as a stereotypical dumb blonde, but male. The writers, to me, didn't have a good grasp of the Ghostbusters zeitgeist. #2 is pretty decent, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife is very strong. There had been talks about a third movie by the original cast, but Harold Ramis died in 2014.
      They worked around that in the movie. It's really about a new Ghostbusters crew.

    You have a really peaceful, chill, vibe going and your comments come across as genuine, organic and natural and not forced.
    For future comedy react recs I would have to go with:
    Groundhog Day (1993)
    Harold Ramis (Egon) wrote and directed and re-teamed with Bill Murray for a very unusual comedy, putting the acerbic ahole BM character to good use.
    Airplane (1980) Still considered one of the funniest movies ever made.
    Action
    Die Hard (1988)
    The grandfather of smart action movies.
    Sports/Drama
    Rocky (1976)
    More of a classic character study drama than a boxing movie.

    Apollo 13 (1995)
    Ron Howards telling of the true story.

    Notice the sexual innuendo. Dana becomes possessed by the gatekeeper while Louis is possessed by the key master, and has trouble getting locked out of his apartment. These two must get together to usher in the end of the world. Also, why would Peter take 300 cc’s of a knock out drug to meet a woman for a date? 🤔 Hmm.

    Hi, Tara. Just caught your combo reaction in mid-August with Jen who I've watched more not seeing the sister resemblance until then. Both of your glasses look the same. She's reacted to one Alfred Hitchcock directed film. That's PSYCHO (1959) but, no others. Poll your subscribers about Alfred Hitchcock.You stay classy, Tara and please, remind Jen to do the same.

    People will recommend Ghostbusters Afterlife as the perfect denoument, but it isn't a comedy, it's sentimental, mostly references to the original film...characters from the first film do things they would never do...and the original Ghostbusters are shoehorned in at the end of the movie as an afterthought. I don't understand how anyone who loves the original movie could think it was worthy to be mentioned alongside the first two movies. They were silly, irreverent slob comedies that didn't take anything too seriously, raucous and crude and that was the point.

    • @TaraTunesIn
      @TaraTunesIn  Рік тому

      I value your opinion… in order to make my own, I will have to watch all of the Ghostbuster movies, including afterlife..

    Good job Miss Tara. Maybe they lost their research grant because one of them was a skirt chaser and abused their test subjects. Hearse with siren? They used to be called ambulances. At least Louis got a little sexy time with Dana. Even if neither of them knows it. It was several watches in before i noticed Dana had a bag of stay puft marshmallows on her counter. The great song we all love sounds the way it does because the powers of production wanted a song that sounded like huey Lewis' song "I want a new drug". They settled out of court. I told Jen she shouldn't watch movies like "the exorcist " alone. She told me you were not a good choice to join her. Sorry. Just one more thing. "If someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES."
