Man, your dad's a cool cat. It's awesome that he recognizes the shock value for what it is without letting it affect his sensibilities. Slim Shady always came with exaggerated levels of violence and sheer absurdity back then. Still astonishes me that people took those kind of cartoonish lyrics seriously.
This album is a reaction to the backlash of his first slim shady album. He felt because he’s white, is signed with dr.Dre, and had some catchy sounding songs, he got lumped in with pop groups at the time that were on MTV all the time like a N sync, Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin etc, so he decided to make an album with even worse lyrics to piss off he critics even more, and to further separate himself from the pop acts on MTV.
Kind of true. Some of the lyrics on I'm Back, Marshall Mathers and in particular The Way I Am were a response to that, but overall most of the album was already written by mid-late 99 and was originally titled Amsterdam - it was mostly a response to the controversy that his violent/drug content caused, not being a pop act

If you guys do more Eminem albums you might want to give your dad a quick run down on Eminem and a little about his personal life/career because that is one of the big reasons he is so popular. People feel like they know him personally because of all the details about his life that he puts into his music, and it kind of makes the music sit differently with you when you form that connection and understand where he is coming from.

This is so awesome! Me and my dad would laugh our asses off listening to Eminem when I was a kid! My dad was always a big fan of Controversial people like Howard Stern... And to this today is one of the memories that I cherish the most about my dad. He is no longer with us... But every time I listen to The Marshall Mathers LP, I think of him

The best part about Kim is that it's the prequel to 97 Bonnie & Clyde off the Slim Shady LP. He told that dark ass story in reverse, explaining the aftermath on the 1st album, and what led up to it on the 2nd album. This man has displayed genius like intelligence with his pen for 20+ years.
Your dad is so chill and cool. You're lucky to have a dad like him. You guys have good taste in music. I wonder what your pops would think about a modern slow poetic rapper like Earl Sweatshirt.
After "Kill me" when your dad said Eminem needs to be studied just reminded of a school teacher of mine who actually said the same thing. He wanted Eminem to be put into school and taught I'm schools. Loved that teacher lol
I just tripped into this channel at 1 AM, should've been to sleep a long time ago but absolutely love the content! More people should have the same eye-opening experience to what hip-hop really is, and have been. Big up to you and your pops, much love from Sweden!
This has genuinly made my morning. I listened to The Black Album & GRODT wth you both yesterday and I fu@$ing loved it. I haven't even started watching this yet but a thumbs up in anticipation. Subbed yesterday. You two are gonna blow up for sure. Hi from the UK 👍
Oh, it's not even CLOSE to corny. No hate, but anyone who says that needs to get a brain checkup. No hate my man, but the fact that it was more mature than it's predecessor, makes it less corny, if anything
When I was 14 this album was my life. I fell asleep to it every night with my headphones on. I knew this album inside out. Content aside no one can argue with ems fire spitting ability and you can see that with your pa.
Grew up listening to this album (and SSLP and The Eminem Show)... The beats, the flows, and most of all the lyrics. It truly is a masterpiece and a hip-hop classic. English isn't my first language and his music helped me learn it quicker.
Love your guys' concept! Keep doing this stuff man please! Would be sick for you to follow the journey of Em throughout the years, from starting as Slim Shady and weird tracks to more of the 'new style' he tends to bring out these days. Curious to see what other artists you'll be doing! Much love from The Netherlands💪👊
The word Stan isn’t just a popular term. it was actually added to the Oxford English Dictionary in April 2019 as both a noun and a verb. as a noun, “Stan” is defined as “an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan” As a verb It’s defined as “to exhibit fandom to an extreme excessive degree”
@@Biden_Bluh The problem isn't that he failed to capitalize, the issue is that he shouldn't have been ending his sentences to begin with, the first period should have been a comma, and the second one should have been a colon.
As a kid from Detroit I can still remember when Em & Shady records was running the rap game. It was dope to see someone from where I'm from. I was bugged out as a kid when I found my cousin D'Angelo was his bully knowing that is why I treat people the way I do now because you never know what life has in store for people.
I just realized how well built this album is. Every song is placed in order for a reason, it takes you for a ride. Its like "This is Eminem". And btw I'm kinda thrown aback that you're presenting Eminem (sounds like you're a fan) and don't know D12? You gotta check into it, man. :)
The way you set everything up, from the timestamps to the format in which you listen to the album is so unique. Don't stop grinding, this is gonna be the next big reaction channel.
The Steve Berman skit is exactly what it sounds like. The story is that after submitting this album for approval, he was told it was good but didn't have anything to market as a #1 hit. In anger and frustration Eminem produced and recorded "the way I am" which was the 1st beat that he himself produced. That gives the line "let's face it, I'm not gonna be able to top what "my name it," so much more meaning. Immediately after, he's supposed to have recorded "the real slim shady," then handed the album back to execs and told them "there's your hit." That's why those 3 tracks are in that order.
Eminem spoke out against censorship in this album and the eminem show. He went toe to toe with the government for EVERYONES 1st ammendment rights. Love him or hate him; he's an American hero.
@@Cujobob nah, kanye spoke out against bush during the donation call marathon thing for hurricane Katrina. “George bush doesn’t care about black people” on live television in front of millions for a charity fundraiser for victims of the hurricane. In my opinion why he spoke up for trump was purely because he felt a connection with trump as they were both ruthlessly criticized, unfairly, by the media. I’m sure he felt a bond due to that and an opportunity to make connections by getting close to a sitting a president. But Kanye has definitely had his share of political critiques. Kanye hasn’t spoke out as much through his music as em has but they both have used their voice to pursue personal political gains.
@@dylan351321 Kanye supported the most corrupt President in recent US history with a history of racism and that’s your defense of the man? Good lord, the whole insurrection against the United States should have been enough evidence that he was wrong 😑

It’s heart warming to watch you and your Dad bond over music like this. It’s clear that your Dad is very proud of you. Looking forward to whatever comes next, have you guys got an Insta page too?
Forgot 'The Kids' wasn't on this version of the album, one of my favourite Em tracks!! Just found you blokes absolutely loving your old man's reactions =D Love from Aus
I think that it's pretty amazing that your dad could pull out Eminem's crazy ability and how talented he is because most people cannot get past the outlandish lyrics of his first few albums. Much respect to Pops. New subscriber from this video, yeah man Kendrick and Cole will be two more goats for him to check out.🤘. But if he has not heard it already he has to hear some of the latest Eminem because he has worked on his skill to the point I don't think he can be beat at this point with the clever lines, wordplay, Speed and Cadence. It's a science to Eminem
I love your channel and your chemistry. Please do never change this concept, it‘s perfect! Ever thought about introducing your dad to a Quik album? Rhythm-al-ism? I‘m sure he would love the production side of it!
Thanks for doing this album!! I'm as big a stan as they come! The relationship between you and your dad is so sweet! Y'all hit me right on the forehead with a reminder of just how GREAT a fucking album this was. I was always caught up between the slim shady LP and Eminem Show as favorites but this too was Prime time Eminem in every sense of the word. Completely mind blowing how every single record is a Hit on here it's like the GRODT of Eminem's catalog.

Great album. But the Eminem show is Em straight up showing off his rapping ability. I loved Eminem immediately, but a lot of the black community didn’t really vibe to his music until 8 mile and the Eminem show. The Marshall Mathers LP is a flawlessly put together body of work. But its his alter ego Slim Shady. The Eminem show is Eminem just rapping to show everyone, even when I’m not on that crazy slim shady stuff, I rap better than all of you. I like them both for different reasons.
This is dope to see the relationship with your dad, my dad got me really hooked on this album and we blast it while we drive around...your dad is right we get some crazy looks😂

"The Eminem Show" is my personal favorite Eminem album. 0 misses from start to finish. Highly recommend Also "not many rappers also produce" ... I give you Russ... (+11 albums mixed, mastered, and written solely by himself)
Agreed, including Drips 😂 Obie’s verse is ridiculously disgusting and I love it. The whole album is paced so well with so many phenomenal beats. I remember copying it to my minidisc player so I could listen to it all the time.
The Way I Am has that part with ' and they blame it on Marilyn ' , It's pretty much the same little message as at Never Knew, not just blaming rappers, but also blaming other musicians like Marilyn Manson, cuz Manson did some crazy stuff that he was blamed off in the early 2000's and the 90's. In the video when Em says that part he is at the camera and behind is Marilyn if I remember correctly, that video is also pretty cool to watch. Great reaction as always, great stuff guys keep it up! happy holidays!
Yo you guys are fire! Also just so you know the song “kill you” wasn’t a beef/dis track it was meant to insult the critics, the karens, that take his lyrics too seriously. So basically it’s all a troll song. Eminem just likes to do what everyone hates. So I think what when he was coming up along with the artist like Marilyn Manson, who he gives a lot of credit too, he liked that people were so upset about his graphic hardcore lyrics and wanted to push that narrative which is genius
Only dude I ever knew that had the balls to sit his father down and play him KIM. I woulda just been like yo were gunna skip this one, it’s just too heavy. I remember they just took it off the censored album all together lol.

1:07:52 Haven't seen anybody commenting on this yet so here I go. D12 were actually 6 members not 12. Eminem, Proof (R.I.P., which also was Eminems mentor and backup MC in live shows and concerts) , Bizarre, Kon Artis (which is also a producer and became Eminems backup MC after Proofs death), Kuniva and Swift. But every member has an alter ego like eminem and slim shady. So every member counts for two so they called themselves D12 or the Dirty Dozen.
I remember my dad not allowing me to listen to Eminem back in the day to the point where I had to try to record his songs on tape off the radio when they came out! Then one year I got the bleeped version of D12 for Christmas which was okay I guess but these days swearing is just apart of showing your true human emotion. The lyrics though I memorized & listened to them a lot now I'm 32 & my "White Chocolate" (that's what everyone called me 🤣) days come out sometimes & if you seen me you wouldn't even think I wore my cloths baggy & enjoy rap/hiphop 😎

I love how your dad is so open to some of the absolutely mad lyrics
it would also be interesting for your father to show you some of his favourite albums. love the channel
Completely agree with this, bridges usually work in both ways and I'd love to see this happening!
"This puppy's lucky I didn't blast his ass yet" is the most hilarious line ever. I'm always crying with laughter when listening to that song.
Literally same bro I always laugh 😂

Eminem Show was definitely not corny.

Nice job guys, Super wholesome and been going through a lot so this was nice to watch. As an eminem fan, also you've got a very calming voice.
I now have Turning the Tables, AND Bridging the Gap! I love this exact style of reaction channel. The way these two channels do it is just so perfect.
Thanks bro! They definitely inspired our journey. Shout out to them!
Same! Taking reactions to great music to another level

The word Stan isn’t just a popular term. it was actually added to the Oxford English Dictionary in April 2019 as both a noun and a verb.
as a noun, “Stan” is defined as “an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan”
As a verb It’s defined as “to exhibit fandom to an extreme excessive degree”
Stalker + fan, if that hasn't been covered
@@MrSlyBadger lolz
When you are talking about dictionaries but don't capitalize the first word multiple times.
@@Biden_Bluh The problem isn't that he failed to capitalize, the issue is that he shouldn't have been ending his sentences to begin with, the first period should have been a comma, and the second one should have been a colon.
Ok Stan
As a kid from Detroit I can still remember when Em & Shady records was running the rap game. It was dope to see someone from where I'm from. I was bugged out as a kid when I found my cousin D'Angelo was his bully knowing that is why I treat people the way I do now because you never know what life has in store for people.
Damn bro, you should share that story, D'Angelo Bailey made history haha
I just realized how well built this album is. Every song is placed in order for a reason, it takes you for a ride. Its like "This is Eminem". And btw I'm kinda thrown aback that you're presenting Eminem (sounds like you're a fan) and don't know D12? You gotta check into it, man. :)
I had the same realisation
They suck tho
D12 is great for sure. Love Purple Pills, My Band, How Come, shit on you, etc.
@@ShadowCraft1195 if you like my band, you will for sure like 1 shot 2 shot (same general basement). (Btw its just an advice not trynna force it)
Always cherish your father it’s beautiful how y’all come together like this. He’s such a gem truly.
Immediately after, he's supposed to have recorded "the real slim shady," then handed the album back to execs and told them "there's your hit."
That's why those 3 tracks are in that order.
Eminem spoke out against censorship in this album and the eminem show. He went toe to toe with the government for EVERYONES 1st ammendment rights. Love him or hate him; he's an American hero.
2 Live Crew walked so he could run.
He used to be a first amendment advocate. Now he’s lost his ways and he’s a puppet for the democrats/censorship party. Sad to see
He also spoke out against C Delores Tucker, Cheney, Bush, and Trump. Probably others I’m forgetting. He’s like the anti-Kanye.

This is dope. My mom is 69 years old and I turned her into an Eminem and Tech N9ne fan. Lol.
Sweet!!! My prim proper mom in her 70's! Now loves Eminem!! lol She hates swearing! Which is ...Lmao!!!
My 65 year old lifelong hippie uncle loves Em too😂👍
Your dad's reaction right off the bat had me cracking up. He was enjoying the beat, but like 'WTF?!?'
Eminem is a syllable machine really dissecting all punctuation and stretching all pronunciation of a word
I’m 18, seeing an older figure discovering this music is so dope cause I’m now just fully grasping what my favourite rappers did yk
I love your channel and your chemistry. Please do never change this concept, it‘s perfect! Ever thought about introducing your dad to a Quik album? Rhythm-al-ism? I‘m sure he would love the production side of it!

Agree
You are so right. Eminem was a battle rapper. And imagine how tough it gotta be, well as a rapper and as person too.a white boy in the 90s era, where there was no white rappers before him, well very few except that vannila guy and beastie boys.imagine the toughnest of the guy. Eminem finish second to juice during Rap Olymlics. His technique also comes from there
The first CD i bought , glad you listened to us and decided to react to Eminem's music , keep it up pal , you're doing a great job and it aint gonna take long for your channel to grow exponentially , i mean it's like the most natural video on yt , just a dude listening to music alongside his dad , literally it's like i be in the same room as you:)
I am so jealous. I always wished I could do stuff like this with my dad, but he just cant fuck with rap music at all. You are one lucky son.
This is dope to see the relationship with your dad, my dad got me really hooked on this album and we blast it while we drive around...your dad is right we get some crazy looks😂

Eminem fans love to see the journey of an newbie eminem listener to becoming a stan
The two of you got the most beautiful smiles! Thank you for making my day....ehhh... week.... whatever! ❤

D12 has 6 people in it but they once said that combining their alter egos (Eminem/slim shady) and their real names technically makes 12 members
Right! I forgot bout that!
