“Smashed” didn’t mean getting screwed like it does now. It used to only mean getting messed up. The line before shows you. The whole song is about using drugs, guys.

Never thought about it but the term smashed must refer to being so drunk that u fall and "Smash" into the ground, like a guy stumbling drunk "Smashing" into things
Still waiting for the "Sing for the Moment", "Guilty Conscience" and "Kill You" reactions. Em knew how to push buttons (Kill you), make a song sound like a debate (Guilty Conscience) and break down why people perform no matter the push-back (Sing For The Moment) in a way that can get you bopping your head.

37 year old white dude from Detroit. Spent my life between the ages 14-26ish completely ruining my life. This was basically my theme song throughout my teenage years and early 20’s. Coke, ecstasy, black out drunk, and random women every weekend for over a decade. Such a love/hate relationship with this song. Funny how some of the best and worst times of your life can be inextricably linked together. It’s also funny that I relate so much to the point of the third verse and how I don’t really regret most of it. Now I have a masters degree, six figure job, am a blue belt in jiu jitsu, incredibly healthy and doing well. That’s probably why I can look back on those times with a juxtaposition of fondness and disgust. Either way, as someone who basically lived this song word for word almost, I can’t help but smile every time I hear it.

Glad you guys are still digging into Em's older catalogue. Would still love to see you guys react to the Stan sequel "Bad Guy". The last two minutes of that song alone are amazing
LOL, this is still one of Em's "fun songs" that you play from time to time for the vibe, or simply to enjoy for the memories of that time just hanging out or partying. But yeah, seems strange at times to hear Em in his "drug days" knowing he has been sober for over a decade now. Not to mention how changing "slang words" makes that last line about Haley mean something completely different today than it did back then.
The funny thing is, Haley is the very opposite of what Em said about her in this song. Her best friend confirmed, she stayed away from parties, drugs and alcohol. She still is a very normal good girl.
Eminem was not in the best place mentally when this dropped. But the record was so FIRE so none of us at the time really picked up on it. He is lucky to have made it out the 2000s.
Actually at this point apparently he Was laser focused and aside from the ecstacy at shows and some drinks; he was recording professionally locked in. From what Em said, it didn't really get bad bad like that until after Eminem show, I mean when Encore dropped it was clear as day something changed. He was all of a sudden super slow and slurrish at times with no real focus or gusto to it. After Proof died he went deep deep...again Em partied from what people around him said, but D12 have talked about how Em wasn't trying to be geeked out in the studio like them every time; the music got him hype enough. It was the vicodin amd sleeping pills and benzo era that killed him and had him be resuscitated only to relapse again. He was guzzling methadone at that point. Passing out in Burger King parking lots on benzos just a fat mess with no new music aside from that Re-Up album that wa supposed to relaunch shady records with promising new recruits like Cashis and Bobby Creekwater. He'll, even Stat Quo was on there. Then some TI collabs that were done on oxycontin. Apprently Tip and Em both went deep on the oxy in the studio according to T.i, and that weird Touchdown song dropped with em just slurring away all slow and strange...of course once that Relapse album dropped it was a whole other "somethings off here " moment lol but yea, at least then it was the result of a positive change mentally for him. Even jf the music didnt hit like we thought. At the time Drug Ballad was made tho, Em was straight from what I've heard him and those around him recount. It was mostly just a persona in his music. Not that he didn't party but the addiction hadn't popped in like that yet
Not with SSLP either. He worked day and night with the 8 mile movie while also working on The Eminem Show. He then dropped Encore where he probably hit rock bottom, and Proof was shot to death. It completely ruined him. I understand him. I've been through 4 months of withdrawal from different drugs lately, and what got me back on track was after one of my best friends attempted suicide with xanax and vodka. And my family that supported me, I can't betray their trust or my own anymore. There is too much hope to be destroyed this time around if I relapse. These last months I've been crying like there was no point, no future, no happiness to ever be found. Well, I feel confident enough to say that this misery is getting better every day. No looking back now. No reason to climb a mountain 90% just to give up.

YALL DIDNT DO MARSHALL MATHERS HOW??
This is my joint favourite Eminem song, along with 'Marshall Mathers'. They are his storytelling at his best.
Hailies song, Guilty Conscience, Deja Vu, Love you more, Business. (In this order) (Pretty different songs context wise, so I think it would be pretty interesting to see y’all’s reactions to these songs! ❤
Smashed as in getting lit😭😭
Music Box or Buffalo Bill is a must do
This one is one of my all time favorites.
OMG you guys are soooo funny! And YOUNG!
“Smashed” before 2015 meant DRUNK or HIGH! Now you need to make an APOLOGY VIDEO for thinking that messed up sh*t about Eminem’s daughter!! 😂😂😂
