Don’t get me wrong I appreciate your reaction and thinks its great content. I just know the more you listen to eminem the more you’ll realize if you talk over the music you miss much more than you think. And that can change your outlook on the art itself. Everything Eminem says has meaning of some sort.
It's received as a Monumental album for sure. Really changed the game and inspired a lot of new artists as well. 👍🤘🏻

That line about little Eric jumping off the terrace is a direct shot at Clapton for coming out talking shit about Eminems music and lyrics and that he sets a bad example for his daughter. I'm sure someone else in the comments probably said it already. The more you know

Really cool reaction, this was like my soundtrack to high school. Pretty much every song I like (Amityville is the only one I would routinely skip), I really liked 'Marshall Mathers' but I think part of it is understanding the context in the first verse- voicing his frustration with the 'shiny suits era' (specifically I've always thought he's talking about Ja Rule jacking 2pac's style) and then the end of that verse and the ken kaniff skit are his retaliation to Insane Clown Posse, who parodied his first big single 'My Name is' with 'Slim Anus'.
I'm a former purist metalhead, that now enjoys everything from the raunchiest metal, to hip hop, to classical, to boogie woogie, with everything in between. Skill is skill and good music is good music.

I was a metal purist aswell back in the day, but Eminem always had a special place in my heart. By then I've really expanded my mind for more music, of all styles.

I think the reason You don't like the Marshall Mathers song is because it has a lot of hip hop references and personal beefs references you didn't know about ... like help from d12 to beat up 2 females etc 2 females with make up he's talking about is insane clown posse

I think it also has to do with the fact it has a more R&B sound as opposed to funk.

This Album sold 1.76 million copies the first week it dropped and 34.8 million total copies, and YES it went Diamond. Eminem has won over 350 Awards including 15 Grammys and 1 Oscar along with many others, he's in the Genius Book of World Records over 10 times and even has his own word in the dictionary now "Stan". He is the (Artist of the Decade) with over 300 million album/single sold.

I grew up on Hip Hop but I listen to everything from country to salsa. I used to try and convince stubborn rockers that they should give it a chance because it is its own style of poetry. That a beatbox would make Marie sound than any instrument can make.

Marshall Mathers is easily my fave as it dives into his personal life and his darkest music is some his best.

As a fan of a variety of music genres from different eras, I confidently believe Marshall Mathers LP is one of the greatest albums ever released. The word "timeless" is thrown around too much but it actually applies here. I sometimes forget how spectacular this is, until I hear it again. Respect

Yeah I address this in my text dump. There's a lot of references to his "beef" with Insane Clown Posse who gave him a very dumb "diss" name which he destroys in one line. But, not to speak for Metal Biker Dude, but I think it wasn't the lyrics (as he compliments them) but rather the lack of a bass line & the use of a guitar (which he reaches for after).
It's also hard to like a song that you talk over the entire time. Talking about unrelated things. He missed 80% of the subject matter.

“The way I am” was actually one of the first songs Eminem produced himself
He also wrote it in like 1 or 2 days, following the meeting parodied on the track before it. He was told by the label none of the songs were single worthy for radio and he had to come up with a new song or no album. He went home, locked himself in the lab and wrote the way I am.
It's an amazing song.

As a metal head myself, I love seeing other metal fans appreciate the genius that is Eminem. His lyricism is unmatched and his sense of humor is on point, as you noticed. Also, there is a lot of crossover fans of Korn (and metal in general) and Eminem.
Korn, Em, Blink, Greenday, No Doubt, Dre, Snoop, and others in this late 90s early 2000s. I love it all. This era of music was middle school through high school. Eminem though is probably the best artist out of the era. I hope people appreciate his music in 50+ years like people with the beatles, rush, U2, etc

kinda crazy seeing a random guy react to an album that raised me. im gettin chills again like its the first time. right before church one morning, my bro copped it on napster ten days before release, and i just knew i was like entering an era.
beatsNstrings yo, same here man. heard this album along w other’s from Eminem thousand’s, and thousand’s a time’s, and watched this reaction vid not expectin much other than to see some hilariously unexpected reaction’s, but w every song I got the chill’s, and it was like I was hearin every song for the first time again... cept I knew every word to every song. hello Sure Infinite is quite good but it’s not better than the MMLP, Slim Shady LP or The Eminem Show. It’s arguably better than the rest.
what the hell is wrong wit u guys, eminem show is nothing compared to MMLP and Infinite is terrible. Even Em himself hates Infinite. Slim Shady Lp is the only other album with the same caliber as this album

I wouldn't call him the greatest lyricist, but he is by far the greatest wordsmith by a mile. The way he combines words, creates flows, emphasizing syllables, bending words to fit in a scheme, while telling a funny, coherent line is downright genius.

The last song is D12, which is Eminems band, they are his closest friends. It is rather important to understand D12, if you want to understand Slim Shady.
D12 was at first basically just a pact between them that the first person who gets famous, makes all the others famous too, it was Proofs (Eminems best friend since high school, he died 2006 after being shot in the head) idea to found the group, he also had the idea that all of the 6 members should have 2 personalities, therefore D12.
He had also the idea that they should say things that would be over the limit and just saying whatever they want, but also funny things, like saying to fuck his own mom and having a new brother and son at the same time, it was already Bizarres (the other guy on the song Amityville) style so he inspired the others in the group and fundamentally is responsible for this famous style of Slim Shady, it is also probably why you thought that Bizarre is the counterpart to Eminem, which is actually very true, but Bizarre is still the most crazy one in the group, to name all members and the second personality:

I recommend the song "My Band" from them, especially the music video, which is very funny.
His first album "Infinite" has absolutely no Slim Shady influence and therefore are the song themes completely different, because it was before they came up with this idea, so even though the album was incredible good, people were not buying it because it was not unique and too similiar to other rappers at that time, it only sold like 1000 copies, even though the album is incredible, especially in terms of rhymes, but that´s basically it, besides that it was indeed not unique, but the title song "Infinite" is in my personally opinion one of the best songs he ever did.
I think to understand Eminems music you have to understand his story, which is in rap music often the case, because of the heavy focus on the lyrics. If you really want to know more about Eminem, I recommend his book "The Way I Am", which is like his songs very well written, I think most of things I wrote are also written in the book.
I literally get goosebumps every single time Em comes in on the 4th verse, "Dear stan, i meant to write you sooner but i just been busy" EVERY TIME!
This one of the greatest album of all time not just in the rap but every genre. Eminem’s “the eminem show” is also an absolutely amazing album.

Relapse was his best last album
i thought recovery was. i thought 'not afraid' was his best lead single ever. but to be honest, even through his weak albums, his multisyllabics were always crazy as hell he was a prolific writer.
I don’t like his newer albums, I stop listening after that curtain call the hits.
*Encore* was by far his worst album, but it’s still an above-average rap album. It’s like Metallica’s *St. Anger* : it’s a good album until you realize which act released it, at which point you notice the steep decline in quality. Fortunately for both examples, they’ve both had better albums since.

Jeremy Hodges I can relate, but I’m also lucky that I wasn’t able to check out every classic as they happened. I was able to experience 2Pac’s *All Eyez on Me* and *The Don Killuminatti* for the first time a few months ago, and I was blown away.
I clicked on this video with the intent of skipping around to some of the good songs to hear your opinions. Then I got sucked in cause I forgot how amazing this entire album is.

All the songs on this album are good in their own merits. Especially if you know what was happening at the time (pretty sure that’s why he didn’t care much for Marshall Mathers, you’d have to know what was going on to get it better)

3 years late to the party but I gotta say it: watching you discover this album brought me back to when I was going into the 9th grade and heard it for the first time myself. We can never get the initial reaction back so it was great to witness this. Thank you for that.
Also, those moments when eminem's word play and humor make you want to pause the song and let it sink in.. he has never lost that, either. I think (at least to me) that is part of his longevity. Listening to any of his releases take me back to being a kid and being transfixed by his wordplay, delivery and humor

I just spent two hours watching a react vid and I don’t hate myself for doing it. Great balance of play and pause...and when you did pause, I was interested every time. Already liked and subscribed, but I gotta say that you have a talent for this. Most react vids are garbage, but you killed it IMO. As to suggestions, I like Snoop, but never listened to any of his albums. Dre on the other hand...Dr. Dre - The Chonic, has always been one of my favorite albums. The kind of album that you listen front to back and enjoy it all. Also very curious to see what you think of Macklemore’s album “The Heist”, because that’s another that I enjoyed top to bottom.

Just watched this entire video. I loved your take on the album! Reminds me of my first time listening to it! You asked for Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg recommendations which are similar to this album. I would strongly recommend Dr. Dre's "2001" and Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle." Those are albums with somewhat similar vibes to this album. And the Dr. Dre production on both of those albums is nothing short of phenomenal. Much respect for what you are doing, and I'm looking forward to continue taking this journey with you!

React to DMX’s album “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot”
Wrote a music history paper on this album. Arguably one of the most important albums in the history of hip hop and rap music. Without this album, rap music does not make it into the mainstream the way that it has in the last 20 years. Respect to Biggie, Pac,, Jay-Z, Cube, Nas, Busta Rhymes, the list goes on... but this album was a crossover that no one could have anticipated.
Meanwhile, Dre. still reigns king.
Eminem wasn't wrong when he said his music reached suburban white kids. It actually did. It gave them SOME way to rebel.
You're not wrong. Eminem dragged casual and white fans over to rap and hip hop. A whole generation of kids who otherwise wouldn't have listened to rap were suddenly the target market from 2000 onwards. It was a huge feat for a rap album to go more than 1 x Platinum in the 90s - All Eyez on Me went multi-platinum posthumously, The Chronic sold a few million, Biggie went 2 x Platinum, and they were anomalies for Hip Hop. Suddenly this white guy comes in and sells Nsync numbers eventually going Diamond (twice) with legit no-holds rap lifted from black rappers, and the other white and casual fans get into it. It really did open the door for rap to go mainstream when previously it had been second tier - 50 Cent, Kanye, Lil Wayne all go multi platinum in the 00s and its standard for hip hop albums to go at least Platinum, and its been THE main genre for the last 15 years.
Its a shame that society needed a white guy to make this amazing genre seem accessible to the mainstream but oh well.
@@sjn6704 your paper was really fascinating I bet. Unfortunately that trend of Black music entering the mainstream through white artists is nothing new. Look at how spirituals, jazz, blues, rock, and eventually hip hop all began with Black musicians and gained widespread popularity mainly through white artists. This is not to discount the greatness of those Black artists because to this day they remain some of the biggest influences on American culture.

Found it funny that some of the tracks you liked the least are some of the greatest (Criminal, Marshall Mathers etc.)- they’re lyrical genius, true classics, truly 🔥. But you talked over all the bars. 😂🤣Also, without knowing the context, I would imagine they don’t hit the same way. Study up, then maybe give them another listen? It may illuminate the context and give you a greater understanding and perhaps a greater appreciation for what he’s spitting.

But your assessment of The Way I Am? YOU WERE DEAD CENTER ACCURATE ON THAT ONE. Happens to be My favorite Eminem track of all time (although my favorite album from him is Relapse- it’s a horrorcore masterpiece). Still as relevant, vicious and venomous as the day it dropped 22 years ago. And it always makes me happy when someone new discovers it for the first time.

It is great that you are picking up on eminem's rhyming. 90% of rappers after about the mid-90s use multi-syllable/slant rhyming. Even today there are a lot of rap fans (but not rappers) who don't know how to write multis or understand what they are. But every one hears them. Eminem was ahead of his time with his multi syllable rhymes and rhyme schemes/internal multis. I suggest looking into it, it will add a huge new dimension of appreciation from a writing stand point. Some stuff is waaay more complex than meets the eye. It's why if you are unlearned, reading something may appear to not rhyme but sound like it does when delivered.
Sorry for all the comments. But what you said during the way I am. Yessir. Some people relate to or are inspired by different people and different cultures; and colour doesn't have to stunt that either. Sounds like you are making some internal and external discoveries, but I'm not surprised. Seems you have a good head on your shoulders sir.

Luke Trottier his ryhme schemes are crazy when you see them highlighted on paper. I always wondered why his lyrics were so pleasing to the ear. The best is on renegade with jay-z and he keeps the same 5 syllable ryhme scheme going through out the song
Luke Trottier a good example is "Legacy" from mmlp2 where he starts every verse with the same rhyme scheme. Its very difficult to pull that off.
One of the most ridiculous is his verse on Detroit vs Everybody, he goes back and forth with the "Adrian Peterson" and "potato peeler" mutlis. It's insane.
Eminem is a genius and the best rapper of all time. Ironic he's a white guy but even every black rapper will say no one comes close to him... unless they are a "Hater." This was his early shit and he's matured sooo much and gotten 10x better as he's gone on. You need to just listen to everything you can by Eminem. He's is the best lyrically to do double and triple entendres. It's INSANE how his mind works. Oh.. fyi.. Eminem grew up in the hood of Detroit across 8 mile road... with 90% blacks. He used to go down to this place called "The shelter" and battle rap.

Then Pantera, Korn, White Zombie, Megadeath, Stone Temple Pilots..all live over the years and now at 50 I'm still listening, now playing Volbeat, 5 finger DP, In this Moment, Killswitch engage.. but I LOVE me some Eminem! 😜

The song "Stan" is underrated as one of the best ever written. One of the best stories ever told in song. As a child of the 80's with parents of the 60's I've heard "the best" and it's right up there. Just sayin'.
Kim is just one of those songs that has so much raw emotion that it’s hard for me to even listen to the song. You should do the Eminem show though, it was one of those albums that originally wasn’t liked by critics and was later deemed one of his masterpieces

Glad to see such a positive reception to this album. That's the thing about Eminem - he transcends the genre and pulls in people from all walks of life. He's easy to relate to for anyone who's had a rough spot in life. He speaks to issues that everyone else seemed to shy away from, and he took the negative press and turned it into lyrical gold. This might be his best album of all time, when he was lyrical, hard-hitting, solid beats all around, and his trademark comedy thrown in on a couple tracks.
Eminem is one of those superstars who comes along once a generation. Now he has matured, but he has kept his lyrical skills and while not everyone likes his new content, he's using his platform to speak on issues that matter to him. You can't help but respect the fact that he was a high school dropout who took his pain and made a better life for himself and his kids from it.

I never thought I would spend 1.45 listening to one of the biggest albums from my teens with a guy I’ve never seen before but I’ve really enjoyed seeing it through fresh eyes.
If you haven’t already please react to D12s album Devils Night. D12 ( the dirty dozen ) were Eminems rap group featuring 5 other Detroit rappers including Bizarre that featured on Amityville. It’s a brilliant album filled with lots of F’d up stuff.
