My only issue with asking people to react to that song is the part towards the end, which I get and all, but it's a bit disconcerting to new listeners.... You almost have to ask that they listen to the more palatable radio version of the song that edits that part out. (heck as a Disturbed fan, that part just bothers me as it doesn't really fit into the full song, it seems almost pushed in---and I get the reasons and the message etc.... but there is a reason that I like The Game or Stupify more on the album version than Down with the Sickness) (note I think Down with the Sickness is the best song on the album, but think if I'm asking someone to see if they like the band on first listen, that I would go with the game or stupify as a jumping on point)(or Shout.. but a cover is not always the best way to turn people onto new music)
I'm going ahead and rewatching disturbed music now, and yes Stupify would absolutely be my next recommendation to create a person who likes disturbed. Again Down with the Sickness is the better and more iconic song for a host of reasons, but Stupify really grabs the listener and doesn't have a bit where they might lose them.
Disturbed definitely took this song to a whole new level. David Draiman's vocals, the orchestration but the video and cinematography are a big part of it as well. But Paul Simon's lyrics are hauntingly timeless and as relevant today as they were when he wrote it.

Yes, he was classically trained to be a Jewish cantor so that also explains some of his intonation and pronunciation, such as lingering on the N consonant in "silence" instead of the E vowel as most would do.

Kathy here - loved your reaction to this song. Simon and Garfunkel released this original song back in the late 60's. It was telling the world to pay attention to what's going on in the world. Disturbed's version is a WARNING to today's world. David Draiman, lead singer, was Classically trained as a Cantor, his whole family is in that category as well. His voice is amazing. Experienced. That is the only word to describe hearing this song. You don’t “listen” to it. You don’t dance to it. You EXPERIENCE it. S&G gave us the poetry, David Draiman gave us the warning
Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel wrote this in 1965 during civil unrest and the Vietnam War. He warned that we need to pay arrention to each other and love each other. The neon god is television and commercialization. We have become slaves to the technology and have lost touch with each other. David's version, with his powerful vocals, drives home the rage he feels that we did not heed the warning 60 years ago. So poignant today with even more technology, our neon god, and our faces buried in our cell phones! For the sake of humanity, people, WAKE UP!😢❤
Great reaction. You should definitely react to their live version from the Conan O'Brien show. Y'all should check out this band called In This Moment!! Lead vocalist, Maria, is AMAZING and so underrated. Personally, I love her songs ADRENALIZE and WHORE; her lyrics, is a translation of real life experiences, empowering and conversation starters.. I would suggest watching the lyrics, not the original, video- so y'all can really understand what she's trying to convey and the message. Don't get me wrong, most of their songs I love but those two I think are underrated... Thank y'all so much and I'm glad to see y'all back and up again.. :)

Couldn’t have picked a more appropriate day in our history for this song reaction.Brought tears to my eyes in the 60-70’s in the unrest,& Again today.😢🙏🇺🇸🙏🌎🙏
This is Simon & Garfunkel’s song. It came out in the 60’s .. loved it & still do. When Disturbed (David Draiman) came out with it 5 yrs ago, it blew me away!!!! Loved the song even more! He has such a powerful voice! His music genre is Heavy Metal/hard rock. Paul Simon wrote the song. It’s about man’s lack of communication with his fellow man.
You need to listen to the original by Simon and Garfunkle (the one I grew up with), it has been one of my favorite songs. When I heard this version it blew me away. Both versions bring tears to my eyes because it makes me think of my son Shayne and how we lost him to suicide at the age of 17.
I'm so sorry. I have a 17 year old son who has attempted suicide numerous times and it scares me every single day that he's going to accomplish it...it terrifies me.
As most people have suggested, Down With The Sickness is one of their biggest hits. Just don't expect the same sound, because it's not silent. That was a bad pun, but I had to say it.😏
You know this is a cover done back in the 60’s. Simon and Garfunkel they more folk. Hey when you going to do more Queen? Suggest “Liar”@ the Rainbow 74. Good reaction 👍
First time i heard them sing this was a live version and i was blown away didn't seem like the same man or rock band that sing songs like down with the sickness they did this cover of the simon and garfunkel song by the same name justice y'all should check out chris cornell cover of the sinead o'conner song nothing compares to you that was written by prince🔥🎶🔥
The Sound of Silence is one of the best songs ever. Simon and Garfunkel wrote it in the 60s when a lot of protesting was going on. There was no place to be silent. The line “silence like a cancer grows” silence has allowed wrongs to go on forever.

Conan celebrated the video of their performance as it was the first video from his show to get 100 million views. Keep up the great work!
I love that version, in fact after watching half%Jai reacting here I went and watched it again.
This is is a classic song that will never die and in my opinion Disturb done an epic performance of this cover that no one will ever perform any better. Half and Jai listen to the live version of this song is even more so an epic performance of this cover song. Search this on youtube Disturbed "The Sound Of Silence" 03/28/16 you will love this version also they have a interview with him on this song cover on youtube as well.
Listen to it live on Conan I believe. You will be a million times more impressed
Such a powerful song, great rendition by Disturbed. ♡♡♡
Disturbed is one of my all time favorite bands! Y'all should try Avenged Sevenfold- "Nightmare" or "Hail to the King" . Also some great ones!
Woohoo. I'm so glad y'all did this one. This is the one I requested the first night I ever watched your show. You both reacted exactly as I was hoping. Thank for doing this one.
This dude can pull this song off live as well. Both studio and live versions are equally impressive to me
Y'all should check out this band called In This Moment!! :)
David Draimans voice is incredible, and he's gorgeous lol. I've had a crush on him for forever! Lol
Guyyyys! At 3:34 ( from up to down between the both of you) and at 4:08 while he is singing "moooooooooore" there is a tiny orb flying through your room ❤❤❤ it is flying from the upper right and comes over your shoulder towards the middle front part of you chest. At 6:15 again in the upper middle while he is singing "fall" Wow! Blissings 🥰
Like Tarja Turanen, formerly of Nightwish, he's a classically trained singer.
Great video! Love seeing people explore music, culture and the messages in music. You make a beautiful couple and a positive example. Well done!
Check out the live version. on Conan!!! Then check out Down with the Sickness! And the Pentatonix version is great also. Thanks for reacting to this! His voice is amazing and so were your reactions!
Cause you two are SOOOOO adorable! Stay happy, your good is needed
Have to agree. So sorry for your unimaginable loss.
I absolutely love your reaction! Young lady your response was raw emotion, brought joy to my heart. Thank you!
He looks more like Daughtry to me! He IS heavy metal! “Down With the Sickness”
I FORGOT ABOUT DAUGHTRY!! I was thinking Phil Collins from his In The Air Tonight video
I think he looks alot like Kevin Pollack in his facial expressions.
@@JBiggs54442 I can see that, too!
David has one of the most beautiful powerful voices ever ❤️🌹
As most people have suggested, Down With The Sickness is one of their biggest hits. Just don't expect the same sound, because it's not silent. That was a bad pun, but I had to say it.😏
Great couple and content. Merry Christmas to you both and keep up the good work.
You know this is a cover done back in the 60’s. Simon and Garfunkel they more folk. Hey when you going to do more Queen? Suggest “Liar”@ the Rainbow 74. Good reaction 👍
Yes I 2nd this!
Definitely check out the original !
It's crazy the meaning of a song from the 60's can still be so strong today... I think this version of the song is my favorite.
Paul Simon is one of the great songwriters. Over 50 years later and the song still stands.
David Draiman, the lead singer, was a trained Cantor for his Jewish temple.
Each time I listen to all of these reactions, I learn more about the meaning of this song. I have cried over and over because I am self-analyzing my whole life!
I found a new artist - Ayron Jones, "Take Me Away" - that was recommended to me, he was so good I got others hooked, you guys so have to hear, you'll like him!
I love you guys too. God bless you beautiful family all the time. This is the message sell for the world.
You should check out the live version from the Conan show it's incredible.
Yes! True talent... he can do it all :). Glad you recognized his talent! 👍🏻
you should also try "The Light", or "Never Again" or even "Into The Fire"
Simon & Garfunkel’s version is beautiful.
Also, “Bridge over troubled water”.
