i actually incubated eggs, i have 5 babies they were born 2 days before good friday, i whistled softly to them for all those weeks in the incubator, so they knew my whistle when they were born, it would calm them down if they were fussy, as they are in my lounge room, we check them muliple times during the day if i put my hands in there and whistle they all fight over who wants to be in my hands, they are all over me, its lovely.
My baby chicks are 2 weeks today. I had them from day 2. I started holding them that first day and have names for all of them. They let you hold them, pet them and everything. When I wake them up in the morning I have a saying that I say every morning… I say “all the single ladies all the single ladies” they all come running from under their heater. My ladies are friendly even after dealing with pasty butt. I learned that when reaching for them to reach from underneath and not over them. Thanks for sharing your video. Oh I have Rhode Island’s and Plymouth.
I love your saying! We don’t have a roster so it’s relatable 🤣 I have more chicks this year and I have been making a point of holding them more just for cuddles. It seems to be working! 😊
I about had coffee come out my nose when you said they may not like your voice cuz you're always picking them up to wipe their butts. They look fantastic!
You are the Chick Momma 🤣 Awesome how you educated yourself and brave enough to take on such a big job caring for the babies. You would never know by watching your videos you never had chicks before. Looks like your really enjoying this project. You interact with the chicks like a real Mom. Love your chick chick talk to them. They are going to love you and your treats. The chicks are coming along so well and healthy looking. You'll be getting eggs before you know it. I can't say this enough. Always a pleasure to watch with my morning ☕coffee.
I just got baby chicks for the first time and am I love with all 6 of my new babies. When I open their cage they hop up or fly up to my reached out hand. I give each one kisses on their neck and call out their name every time I do. 4 of the chicks know their names as I’ve had them a week longer than the other two. It’s been an adventure for sure and is how I happened upon your UA-cam page. I need all the help I can get. Thank you for the tips
Hello! I personally wouldn't add it to their feed. They are still so young and some of them haven't figured it all out yet. Once they are grown, you definitely can. I hope this helps
It depends where you have them and the temperature is. I kept them in my house, and felt I only needed the lamp at night. The best way to tell is how they are acting. Are they hundled in the corner together? If so, they need more heat. Are they staying out of the light? Then they don't need it. I hope this helps
I've never mixed it for the chicks. I always found it easier to just have a separate little dish. Some people do mix it, but I'm not sure what the ratio is. For my chickens, I have a large container with their treats, cracked corn, sunflower seads, oats, worms and grains that I do mix their grit into. I give them a big scoop once a week. I just throw it on the ground in their run. They love it.
Just put some in a bowl. They know when to eat it. Now that they are older and laying, I actually just sprinkle it in their run area and they grab it when they need it. Yes, just plan eggs
It looks like you have about 10 chicks? Did you have any issues with having them in a brooder box that size? We have 6 chicks on the way and a much larger brooder box. I would rather downsize to something like yours. Thoughts?
Hello, yes, we had 10 chicks. I believe the brooder was 5x2. It worked for us because we didn't have any chickens in the coop, so we were able to get them out of the brooder and put them in the coop earlier. Last year, I had 3 chicks in that brooder out in the chicken run, and that was good. They grow fast!
@@GardeningintheNorth very interesting bunch Our easter eggers have a lot of amerauracana the spelling on that right now is making me cross eyed lol Copper Marans and the older ones are isbar legbar Chicks are so much fun mine are teenager stage lol 4 weeks
Ya I have the 5 older ones in the lawn tractor they are just under 20 weeks not Laying yet but soon :) And thanks they like the baby talk they don't run away they get curious who's that crazy lady looking at me lol
@@GardeningintheNorth also include apple cider vinegar to prevent pastey butt. Just a half teaspoon or less to a quart of water. We eyeball it but if we can smell the vinegar it's too much. Some use more but then only give it once a week. We add some ACV every other refill.

OMG! I just love that. What made you whistle to them? So ingenious!

Same. They hate overhead grabbing.
I brought my chicks grass and dandelion flowers and leaves for outside. They loved it.
Same! I cut it up a bit and call it their "daily salad" lol 😂😂😂
Thank you so much for the education and the realistic look at brooder life. Many blessings!
You are most welcome my friend 🙂

I definitely need YOUR help with my new chicks. I am trying to handle them more, but they continue to run away from me! 🤣
Cuteness!!
Greetings from Michigan! I just found your channel. Our adventure began yesterday when we picked up our first ever set of chicks from FFH.
Hello and welcome! That's awesome, I love it 🙂
❤❤❤😊😊
What are the chunks in the red water trough?
Hello! That's their feeder. It has chick feed in it.
Can I give them grits at weeks their on Dumor chick starter
Hello! I personally wouldn't add it to their feed. They are still so young and some of them haven't figured it all out yet. Once they are grown, you definitely can. I hope this helps
Talk to them like you would your dog or cat
2 years later and they know when they hear my voice it means TREATS! Lol
What temperature do you recommend for the 2-4 week period ?
It depends where you have them and the temperature is. I kept them in my house, and felt I only needed the lamp at night. The best way to tell is how they are acting. Are they hundled in the corner together? If so, they need more heat. Are they staying out of the light? Then they don't need it. I hope this helps
That's how mine react to me.
🤣❤️
Get one to do it and the rest will follow
Would it be ok to mix the grit with the feed?

How much grit can they have ? And you make the eggs plain.. no butter ect ?? I wanna try making some for mine lol

I wish they liked me better! 🤣🤣 I should have given the pasty butt job to someone else!
Too good New here pls stay connected
So don't use your regular voice while washing off pasty butt. Use a low whisper and breathe on the face .
I will definitely try that next time!
