I actually spent some time taming some teenage chicks that were on our farm. I could call them and they'll come running to me, definitely food and protecting them from the other chickens really helped. While feeding them I could have them lay on my lap and be scratched.😊 If you want them to get better at not freaking out when held is to hold them right (having their wings tucked against your chest and arm and supporting them with your other hand) and only letting them go once they calm down.
I give my chickens compost, and when they first moved out of the brooder and into the coop, I would kneel down, and give them treats while they were sitting on my lap. Sometimes i'll walk into their coop and they would jump on my shoulder. I raised them from 3 days old. While they were in the brooder, I would stick my hand in with some chick started and make the sound. They literally SWARMED my hand whenever I did that. I'm so proud now that they started laying a couple of days ago.
I'm getting 6 chicks this week and I dont want to get attacked lol. I used to have 4 they were very friendly and I thought them to not eat plants in the garden but only bugs so I know chickens can be nice:3
Yeah often chickens are cannibals as well, my grandma had chickens that when a comrade died they ate the corpse. Also egg shells are healthy for them to eat helps give back what they lost laying the egg
My 4 week old Sizzle chicks always run away. They freak out and try to run and fly away when I pick them up and won't take food from my hand. I've had them since 2.5 weeks. I don't understand. If I hold them for 10 minutes they might chill and go to sleep but they are so terrified for the most part.
I have a chicken tractor that I must reach into to tend them. It’s scary for them and I cant hand feed them easily stooping over. I think that they are about 6 weeks old. Is it too late? Will they calm down if I rearrange their home so I can attract them to me? I have to chase them down to grab one and that is not pleasant. Plus their mom attacks me.
So we our chicks (1st time chick “parents”) Everyday I put on some older shorts and sit with them in their brooder “pen” to get them used to humans, they jump all over me and really enjoy their chest and belly pet. We have one tiny Ameracana (I think she’s a bantam, not supposed to be but she’s so little compared to the others) she loves to curl up in my hand and sleep. I fell asleep rocking her the other day and she was happier than a pig in poo. I’m hoping they’ll be friendly with people & I’m thinking of making the little one a therapy chicken. They’re really enjoyable, funny and entertaining. If anyone has any tips for me, I’m all ears. Thank you!!
My chicks are 7 weeks old. I have 9 Road Island and 6 Sultans. I was hand feeding them, but stopped because I don't want them to grow up thinking its ok to peck at my hand. I going to start giving them a call, for them to recognize. The Road Islands are less "skittish" while the Sultans are just plain chicken and are always avoiding me.
Mine would never let me have my hand in there like that even at that age. They are now 6 weeks old and they freak if we even come near them. They also fight with each other all of the time and Ive already had to move one out because they picked all of his head feathers off and he was left bald and bleeding.
I've been trying this everyday for weeks, they're just terrified of me. I have Buff Orpingtons and Easter eggers. I hand feed them, after awhile a few will come and pick a piece and run off into the corner but most of them wont even do that, they just cower in the corner. They go absolutely insane if I try to pick them up or hold them to. It really sucks. I hope they get a little better as adults.
Mine only got worse 😪 I didn't spend enough time i was told and u have to seriously keep spending as much time as possible and even when they get older and they like a routine
I’m curious. So I just got chickens for my son. They are in a coop now. How do you go to free range? Do they lay their eggs in a house, or do they lay their eggs and you have to hunt for them. Also at night to they go back to their house on their own or to you have to call them to go to bed? Sorry, I’m just trying to soak up as much as I can so when my 6yr old asks I don’t say “I don’t know”. But he has learned to read slot more as we read how to take care of the birds. He’d prefer to watch a utube video instead though lol
I built a coop for them with nesting boxes and they did on their own go in nesting boxes and laid butci also have a closed in run because we have alot of stray cats but I don't leave it closed anymore and they still go to where they started at on their perch even if u don't do a coop with nesting boxes u should have a perch or else they don't sleep well u don't want that it interfere with their laying because they will be tired and u don't want them to be stressed that 2 can mess up their laying and they naturally like to perch high to be away from predators it makes them feel safe and they get a good rest and they can't see good at night in the dark they will appreciate a light u can always do solar powered ones the perch preferably mine love the branch I cut down its about 2in a half round I smooth it out and chicken need that because they sleep laying on their breast bone it important they get a good sleep now if u don't want to worry about building a coop and nesting boxes I would recommend milk crates with some shavings and u can hang them up of the ground on the fence and I would cover them on top so they feel comfortable and safe while laying these are all just suggestions it is what I've learned i recently became chicken owner myself u should lookup what do chicken like or need and u can look up nesting boxes
Sorry so u do have a coop they will on their own go back to where they sleep if they been closed in their for a while but I do recommend a perch they will be happy it helps them feel safe as I said
If u make the nesting boxes and they lay their eggs else where they have fake eggs that you can put in the nesting boxes if u decide to make some and I would put them in the coop or connected to it or when prefer them to lay at id keep the fake ones and then show them those nesting boxes with the eggs in it I can be wrong but it is what I understood when looking up everything possible when I first gottem
There is nothing wrong with asking not everyone knows what they need or like I didn't and I still am learning i just recently learned about a prolapse vent not good for them another thing Purina no good do not feed them Purina or dunmar i think it is u can go to off grid with Doug and Stacy and they dug into things and they explain what is happening there but its stopping chicken from laying and I can say first hand its true
I mean I don't know if chicks can have them. But my free range adult chickens eat them a lot wen foraging around the yard and in the woods. We haven't had a problem with it
Is it too late to start this for chicks that are a bit older. I have a chick who imprinted on a friend of mine and kept coming to her for food. They were feral chickens but where I’m from all feral chickens are descendants of chickens that were previously owned. So they rely on humans now so trying to release this one wouldn’t work as they keep coming back. I guess now is just to see if I can get it to be okay with some handling
I raised my chickens from eggs... they are tame and friendly to me just by raising them... I was wondering why there are more backyard chickens and feed. I did a video investigation on feed and chickens: ua-cam.com/video/IeoJ8l0-8RQ/v-deo.html -Jeff Goes Random

Haven’t had chicks in a while but I always loved to put in live crickets and watch them go crazy . 🤠 Love how mixed your flock is....
My chickens call me, because they want fresh blackberries or raspberries 🤣
The key to cool chickens is neck rubs as chicks. :) In groups of them you will quickly notice who gives you the one eye the most. Cheers :)

Aww you’re a good chicken momma. Hopefully in the future I can have a big backyard so I can raise happy chickens. They’re sweethearts.
I enjoyed this video. It was informative but it was also much more than that. It brought a smile to my face and filled me with ...contentment. ❤️
We got 1 Turken and are so surprised how loving she is so far! She's a talker 🥰
I have 2 Turkey and they are smart
They appear to be figuring things out. They call me they imitate the sounds that I make.

Potato Tater they really don’t attack unless it’s a rooster but not all do that
Like most animals, you will get back what you give :) The rare bad apple is always good in soup. Cheers!
They are SO CUTE!!! My babies get lots of treats.
Wait ur telling me chickens like scramble eggs!? 🥚 😨
24rejectionhotline I was thinking the same thing!!!
💀

Chickens are a cannibalistic type of bird
Yes, I mean that’s what they ate inside the EGG
How do you keep your grass so green and beautiful? My chickens annihilate my chicken yard so fast! Do you move them around?

Adorable
I have two chicks that when I make a weird noise they come to me and stare at my hand to see what treat I have🥰
Thanks Sonya 💐
They love your hand!
My 5 day old chicks run to the other side of the pen when my hands get close. I'm gonna try this

Mine only got worse 😪 I didn't spend enough time i was told and u have to seriously keep spending as much time as possible and even when they get older and they like a routine
The brown one looks like a Rhode Island red
Live or dried meal worms? My chick's are about a week old. Isa browns & 1 golden comet
I got 3 ISA browns yesterday and they things ever! They let us pet them and even jump into our laps! Its adorable 😊
Literally all videos in taming chicks just be like feed’em and they’ll become ur best buddies
I give them so much food on their childhood now they are adult now
And they have to be my dinner 🍽
Feeding them with ur hands really help. They'll recognize u.
Which breed are the two grey chicks, exactly?
Bantam cochin
What's the cool black and grey chick with the stripe down its back? It's such a cutey! ;w;
Do chicks and chicken carry diseases? Does it infect human if you touch it?
I mean, no? It's best to wash your hands before and after touching them- but that's with every animal. Are they wild??? Cuz that's a different story.
ive got two babies that wont sleep or settle down unless they are in my hand

Go turkens! :D I got two of them and their sweeties^^
WHY DO YOU RAISE SO MANY BANTAMS?
Are earthworms ok to feed?
I mean I don't know if chicks can have them. But my free range adult chickens eat them a lot wen foraging around the yard and in the woods. We haven't had a problem with it
Scrambled eggs…. You want me to feed Pecker head his cousin?? 😭
