    I've used Resolve, FCP and Vegas. Vegas for my style of content (tutorials) is simply the best because I can edit fast. I love the detail and features Resolve provides but for what I need to do it simply takes much longer. Great breakdown Jay.

    They have made it easy for content creators, but I disagree on one issue. They are also competing with Hollywood level editors when you have the POST package. Easy does not necessarily mean the features are limited.

      I disagree. I have Vegas Post. Vegas Image doesn't have the same level of functionality as Photoshop, and Vegas Effects is definitely not on the same level as After Effects.

    I'm in my first year of being a wedding film maker, but have been editing all sorts of stuff using vegas pro since VPro14 and it has been relatively easy to use for someone with minimal experience using NLE's. As a wedding film maker colour grading is key for me and im loving the new tools, however i think you nailed it by saying there isnt any temp and tint in the grading tool, however you can use the white balance effect by dropping it on to the event and making adjustments from there. something i feel should be placed better with an update. Im also missing out on grading with a split screen to balance two separate events like you can do on Resolve and PP. It would be really handy to be able to grade two clips side by side for consistency using the waveforms etc. fingers crossed with an update. Also a new custom user face layout would be welcome as i prefer to have my grading down one side like PP instead of it being at the bottom.

    Adjustment Tracks already existed before, but a little bit hidden ... actually you can turn every track into an adjustment track by moving the composite module in the FX-Chain ... by the help of parent and child tracks you get even more control ...

    I used Vegas pro when I was in high school, I think it was 7th edition and it always worked great. Recently picked up the 18th edition and have run into so many weird problems I'm almost considering dumping it for adobe premier. Things like inserted audio randomly deciding to not make it into the final render, and some error that prevents playback after rendering "an error occurred while starting playback the request is not enabled for this device." Not the kind of issues I expect to have for a paid program. If I ever upgrade to 19, it will definitely be when it goes on sale for a much cheaper price.

    What can Vegas Pro 19 do Better for $250 or $400 or $600 that FREE for live Davinci Resolve for $295 once for Life with a Speed Editor, can do? I like Boris Effects and Sound forge. Subscription is why I told Adobe to shove it.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  3 роки тому +1

      Vegas isn't trying to compete with Resolve. They operate in different arenas. Vegas is kind of the midpoint between filmora and Resolve.
      Regarding the subscription, Vegas actually gives you extra features for that subscription, unlike Adobe. And they give you the option to not have a subscription, unlike Adobe.

      Hi HoundDogMech! I think one thing Vegas Pro does better than Davinci is in the area of system requirements. Vegas doesn't require as much memory. Vegas doesn't require the high-level Nvidia (CUDA) standards that Davinci demands. In general, Vegas tries to work with older hardware while Davinci requires more and more hardware upgrades.

      @@HoundDogMech Hi HoundDogMech! The one thing that I don't like about Vegas Pro is the pricing structure. Their upgrade pricing for long-time, existing users is high to me. Another product that I think deserves mentioning is "TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 7." It's a great product for doing Church sermons where little clipping (editing) is required, but color correction, noise correction, cropping, and other filters are required. Plus, TMPGEnc works great with numerous import/export formats.

    Hey there, Vegas veteran user here (been using it since around the Vegas Pro 8.0 days back when Sony still owned & developed it) and around the 11:00 mark you mention adding it to the track level, which that feature was definitely there in previous versions, are you not able to do that with the specific colour grading effect? Admittedly, I quit using it on version 17 and since switched to Davinci Resolve because it in my personal opinion it kinda started going downhill for what I do after around version 13, but I used to do all of my colour grading on Track FX and even Monitor FX in the past.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  3 роки тому

    Any of you know if i can animate a color grade ? Like when a drone shows a building and then flies up to show the background landscape. So is it possible to have the color grade at 50% effect and then move to 100% bearing as the shot progresses ? I know i can duplicate the clip to an upper track and then mix between them, but i just want to know if the effect percentage of the grade can be progressed/animated ?

    I'm still wishing Vegas would take it to the next level for colorists. Like, let's be real, they already added the color-grading panel, and yet it still lacks a lot of things. We've already reach VP19 and it still functions like it's for starters only, not for people with advance skills, not for filmmakers, especially for colorists; it's for social media junkies who loves adding unnecessary effects. Until now I haven't saw one professional colorist review this software. Not even one - and that is a MAJOR red flag. VP is full of effects for children. And the worst part of the color-grading panel is that you can't add another one! Like, seriously?

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  2 роки тому

      While I agree with you about not being able to add a second instance of the color panel, I have to disagree with you about pretty much everything else.
      VP isn't targeting professional filmmakers and colorists, they're targeting exactly who you said; social media creators and youtubers. So all those complaints you have about it not being a professional NLE is on purpose.
      You can't get mad at a hammer for not being a screwdriver. If you want pro-level tools, use a pro-level NLE. I use DaVinci Resolve Studio for that exact reason.
      Thanks for watching!

    Hmm I feel Magix has been a little misleading on the road into v19. Having paid for Vegas Pro 18 suite with the carrot of getting v19 when it's released, I now find the suite has gone and the pro perpetual version is now cheaper as an upgrade than it was before it came out! Not only am I still waiting to get my upgrade serial, I could have paid less and had it the day it was released. Also, at the end of the year, there's no way they will release a bunch of updates for those of us on a 1yr term, because they will want to encourage me to buy again to get the new features. In essence this is going the way of subscription and I reckon that's because it's getting harder to bring out new releases to support the perpetual model. Like Adobe it will be little changes here and there and locking you in to use it. Just my 2c on how I see it. Not too chuffed that I can't get to use the new one after paying for it as yet. Maybe I will rethink next year's video editor if this continues.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  3 роки тому

      I don't necessarily think they're being misleading. They just changed the pricing model. True, it might benefit new customers more than existing customers, but sometimes that happens. And that might be true about the updates. It's hard to develop new features quickly, but with a perpetual license, you'll at least always be using supported software. There are people out there who never upgraded from version 16, If they have trouble, they're screwed.

    • @oo0Spyder0oo
      @oo0Spyder0oo 3 роки тому

      @@JayLippman It is in terms of there always being a suite then dropping it. If I knew that I wouldn't have paid more, I was under the assumption v19 would also have had a suite, the addons were a good thing. More of a concern though is why I have to wait up to 2 weeks (their words) for my copy, I could have just bought it without the 2 for 1 offer and be using it now.

    • @JayLippman
      @JayLippman  3 роки тому

      I'm not quite sure what you mean. The Vegas Pro and Vegas Post tiers are both suites. They just took the word suite out of the name.
