    Remember when Samantha Carter thought Antarctica was an ice planet? What if the 'desert planet' was similar? I forget whether the Destiny's sensors told the crew how green (or not) the rest of the world was, but it's possible the atmosphere of the world came from photosynthetic life that was too far from the gate to reach on foot.

    I always wondered how these creatures could live on such a dry world if they were so thirsty...but I agree they might have been the cause of the dryness of the world

    • @bradwolf07
      @bradwolf07 6 років тому

      @Thelondonbadger that is true, but with us seeing so little evidence of water, I'm not sure how much water there is under the sand. So I still consider it a dry planet

    • @bradwolf07
      @bradwolf07 6 років тому +1

      @Thelondonbadger that is possible, but it could also be possible that they were near an underground lake. In any case, the scene proved there was water on the planet, even if we couldn't see it easily

      @deucedeuce22oz Agreed. Water is one of the most easily replenished substances on a planet. If anything, the dryness on the planet served as a natural population control for this entity.

      The water is probably deep underground.

    That is actually an interesting way to think about it, the saved Scott and then thanked them after the found a planet over 70% water

    I just finished SGU. I'm watching SGA right now it's not as good so far but I'm still on the 1st season so I hope it gets better. Good video btw.

    What if they take in water (h2o) and use the hydrogen for reproduction but released the oxygen as waste material? Which could explain why the planet still has oxygen.

    The crew arrived on Destiny with little more than the clothes on their backs, which they wear in every episode. And yet, their clothes are clean and untattered, the men are well shaven, the women have nice hair and fresh makeup, and everyone appears well fed. They also have many more gadgets and assorted items than what arrived with them. It's a lot like Gilligan's Island.

      I would assume that the ship had workshops of some sort and other other "amenties" required for fairly comfortable living of the crew - to the very least we know there were sanitary areas in there where you could wash yourself etc - we know this cus the fat dude was peeking over some girls via floating drones and almost got his ass kicked for it. As for shaving - all you really need is a workshop to sharpen some blades or make a razor - it aint a rocket science. We also know there was an agri dome on top of the vessel - i would imagine after some effort it could be used to make algee and such - that would help with food stuffs to some degree as well. The make up - well i would imagine the very limited amount they had initially would last them for a bit as well especially if used in limited carefull manner to last as long as possible - and later on if they got their hands on chemistry lab or smth they could make fairly simple stuff as well - most beauty products are fairly simple in terms of "basic" chemical/organic composition the more exotic compounds might have pose a problem though - but those are used mostly for perfumes and such to provide fragnances.
      So assuming they had a decent chemist on board (this was a science expedition anyway so there should be a few of thsoe in there anyway) who knew how to read a label and were proficient (or desperate) enough to try it its fairly doable. I would imagine the situation would initially be fairly desperate but soon enough it would start to stabilise as they were establishing themselves on the ship and its facilities. And after going on few plantets to gather biological stuff that would make making stuff that much easier as well. As for clothing - depending on what materials were aviable and what destiny facilites would be that could be probaly made on site as well after they put some thought and effort into it - and if plant fibers were aviable from exploring planets - that might have not been that much of a deal as well. Then the question would be of skill - if a skilled tailor was aviable or at leat some one with basic skills in that area.
      Imho in their case it was more about them getting settled in first and they indeed could solve quite a few re-supply issues later on.
      We also know that destity had fairly advanced manufacturing sysems as well (it was able to replenish the drones for eg) so assuming they had access to those facilities then making some more "rudimentary" human tech level stuff shouldnt have posed big deal as well. At first it would be a struggle but it could be worked on as time passed. First making some simpler tools and then onto smaller simple machines - assuming they had relatively decent engineers on board that wouldnt be a difficulat task - time consuming and requiring focus/patience/skill yes but not impossible. And this is assuming they would have to work from "ground level" if there were workshops aviable and with decent ancient tech aviable - that would make things much easier as well.

    It's possible that humans emit some form of energy that extreme guilt and mental anguish can cause. And energy that the bugs were able to recognize. They're also lucky that the bugs did not try to feed off their bodies to get the water out of them.

    That planet was desertified for as far as could be seen, but that doesn't mean that the whole planet was desert. Imagine visiting Earth for the first time, not knowing anything about this world. You step through a stargate into a completely barren patch in the middle of the Sahara, not knowing that there are drinkable rivers (the Nile and others) and two huge salty oceans a hundred miles to the north and east of you.
    This fallacy reminds me of so many early SG-1 episodes where the team "explored the planet" - which really only meant that they checked out at most a few square miles around the gate, and usually much less than that, all on foot.
    If the SGC were real people in the real world, then SG teams could have carried on for decades if not centuries more, with a Daedalus-class ship in orbit doing comprehensive Asgard-sensor sweeps, and still not fully explored even one alien planet.
    Ah, but most of that activity would make for really boring TV. 😫

      I'd have to check but for SGU the Destiny would scan the whole planet, because some worlds they scanned and some worlds they didn't scan for various reasons. But, you do make a good point in general for all Stargate ventures.

    Not going to lie it's a very terrifying yet interesting aspect that's too bad we never got to learn anymore personally I want to know what the drones are what their original purpose was who built them in my opinion however we will never know

    the only issue i see is that they'd have to expel the water they consumed like all other life, i don't see how they can consume water and it just disappears entirely

    Everything comes back in Physics (if the particles don't meet their half-life), so the idea that those bugs just magically drunk all the water on the desert-planet and that the water never came back, plus the fact that if there is breathable-air which forms moisture (unless the temperature is always too high), makes this very unlikely scenario. Those bugs AND some other things would have to happen, because otherwise the bugs themselves would not evolve before the planet became a global desert, I think :/

    Using a gun on a dust swarm Jesus what were the writers thinking 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @ProofJesusWroteTheBible
      @ProofJesusWroteTheBible 2 роки тому

      They were thinking this guy is scared out of his wit [literally so he made a witless response]. In real life very smart people make very dumb choices when fight or flight is spiked. I would have questioned the writing if the dust swarm was scared off by the gun shots, but didn't question his witless response in the slightest.

      Being literally a bag of mostly water humans would pose quite a temptation to be... sucked alive... That life form while amusing would be inherently highly risky to contact "face to face". Curiosity should not override the sound judgment. I would think that the bigger the swarm the more intelligent it would get or at least its capacity for mental tasks - including telepathy, at certain size it would most likely became self aware and trully inteligent as a whole. That would be both cool and intriguing but also very scary.

  • @krzosu
    @krzosu 4 роки тому

    if the swarm was taking water in and then converted it to energy then this would be indeed one way street - they would in time deplete any water supply. Normal life forms would return the ingested water back to the enviroment in one way or the other (like perspiration, during breathing or just you know pissing it out). But if the swarm was converting the water to smth else - that was not returned to the enviroment at all (like matter to energy conversion of some sort) or in a way that was long term binding the water somehow then over time they would indeed be a hazard to the biosphere.

    I always assumed most of what Scott saw to be some measure of hallucination on his part. I think it’d be very human to travel billions of light years across the universe and project our own issues & demons on whatever we found out there.
