Not only poor jokes but way beyond comedy or satire. Comedy makes sense when your assessment either reflects reality or people's perception of it. As you would have to look so long and so hard for someone who actually thinks of Germany as "a toilet" , that line is completely obsolete. Al Murray is a great example of a comedian with a funny way of playing with stereotypes...Dylan Moron (or whatever his name is) is not ! Merry Christmas from Deutschland :)
I discovered this clip a while ago and think it's a perfect description of us. I noticed Dylan Moran was in town with his comedy show when I was in Cardiff last year and I decided to go. Sadly, he had too much to drink before the show and the jokes didn't come quite so easy. The next day we met him at Waterstones. I swear I saw him turn around in shock and horror, when my friend said "Look who's at the till!" to me in German. Either he was really disgusted or he knows the language and oh oh...
I don't even care that I'm German but he just was not funny. just beeing insulting is not funny. and I have seen people making fun of germany, and I enjoy these. but this was just meh
EASY! when did this turn into a threeway between Germany Ireland and Britain? Dylan is a fantastic comedian who takes the piss out of all of our national stereotypes.
I can't agree with the "typewriters eating tin-foil being thrown down a staircase"-thing, because thinking about the sound of German as a native speaker of said language, I'd say it sounds more like "some old coot with a cold shoving a cow through puddles of mud".
As a German, I appreciate the easy tone and it was quite funny, too. I don't appreciate that this is a common prejudice you're often confronted with. We may have more than just WW2 in our history, but why should these things matter more? The past is the past and it's not as if other countries were just smiling and hugging Germany/Prussia or whatever and that are guilty in all aspects. It's just that I see much more people bitching about Germany's past than Germans bitching about other's history.
Loved Black Books but this is just bad. Cheap jokes that have been made a billion times before and no brain behind it. It's just too cheap, not intelligent and not funny. I've expected something way better.
Being American and un-bias to internal European rivalry/animosity, I personally am in awe at the amount of juggernaut minds that Germany has produced. They're doing the best in Europe economically it seems. And even with Hitler -- coming from poor health to making Europe shit its pants is impressive. English has produced great minds too of course. As people have said, he's a comedian: wouldn't be funny if he praised Germany. Though, Hitler material at this point is beaten to death I'm sure.
There is no prejudices or hatred in this stand up routine, it is merely British humour. Agreed maybe slightly outdated because of PC views, but still funny to some. Take for example John Cleese in Faulty Towers the German sketch, which is very funny. Most intelligent people know that things have definitely changed across Europe and more so in Germany. I have up most respect for all German people. :)
i just finished watching dylan moran drink and smoke on Black Books. i thought it was an act, but when i saw him go for a drink i laughed so hard i started to cry

One of the world's great comedians whether or not you can't understand satire. The entire context of this clip is about prejudical remarks about countries and nationalities. People say in these comments Britian and ireland is full of shite, hooligans etc. well thats what he's talking about ^ Dylan, about the ridiculous prevalence of prejudice in the world, except he's making people laugh about it instead of getting angry and self-righteous. He's an award winning comedian, deservedly so.
People say he is not making fun of Germans but of English prejudice of Germans. But I am from Germany and to be honest... most of the things he says about Germans and the language is spot on.
People who are missing the joke; I pity you. This is one of the best stand-up segments ever performed! :D I heart Dylan Moran, the drunken Irish fuck ^_^

The country may not be a toilet, but the people sure do look like they belong in one.
Rightttt...insulting german people isn't funny at all. But ok go on..
It really is! Didn't you hear the crowd laughing? That means they think he's being funny. That's how comedy works you know!?
Ahh that's funny :)
I can't agree with the "typewriters eating tin-foil being thrown down a staircase"-thing, because thinking about the sound of German as a native speaker of said language, I'd say it sounds more like "some old coot with a cold shoving a cow through puddles of mud".
more dutch than german tho XD
I'm not german, but this is just so bad...
You're not German, congratulations for being offended on someone else. So brave
Please, DON'T FORGET that this video was posted 17 YEARS AGO
i laugh my ass off... and im german...
not funny or original
i just finished watching dylan moran drink and smoke on Black Books. i thought it was an act, but when i saw him go for a drink i laughed so hard i started to cry
People please don't forget that work makes you free
Am I the only person in the world who thinks German is a beautiful language? 😯
I always think any language can be beautiful or horrible. lol Even French can sound horrible. Not sure about Italian, though. Italian always sounds lyrical to me. But when someone is angry and shouting? Yea...
Yes. They should rename all those languages in Germany, Skandinavia, etc. to Ba.rbarian lol. Gross.
What's the difference between a German and a shopping trolley?
The shopping trolley has a mind of its own
People say he is not making fun of Germans but of English prejudice of Germans. But I am from Germany and to be honest... most of the things he says about Germans and the language is spot on.
Happy you can take a joke! Thank you!
People who are missing the joke; I pity you. This is one of the best stand-up segments ever performed! :D
I heart Dylan Moran, the drunken Irish fuck ^_^
My stepdad is German and he thought this was great! Irish were basically cannon fodder for the English in their wars, but the Scots said "fuck this shit! you can fuck off!"
Man Leute ich schäme mich für euch ! Das ist doch Witzig. Und nur Comedy! Bleibt cool!!! Keep it up Dylan
an irish person would understand that thats all you need to say when thats all that needs to be said. no need for frills. the beauty of irish humour really. its cultural conditioning in germany, they cant help it.
Dear dear. Don't take it seriously, he's a comedian. It's his job to make fun of things and I am like obsessed with Germany and I find this hilarious xD
Its tough being a German. Go there and you will find that places like Berlin are actually incredibly friendly, Frankfurt even more so. Probably because their daddies were baddies. Its not a toilet though, some great places. Dylan Morans a funny man.
German food is not the best but it kicks Irish food in the ass 10times! I'm not German..
I think it's vice versa and I am German.
Common language of beer
that's not prejudice, that's just observation.
love this line and the way he is ABLE to make fun of Germans while having a show IN Germany;D awesome!
hahahaha. everyone takes this guys JOKES and starts having SERIOUS conversations. you guys are lovely. Truly, our world is a better place in the hands of you people (*my sarcasm abounds*)
You are absolutely correct, still, America didn't solely invent the Marshall plan because of good will. It was either to reject communism with capitalism and thus create free markets, much like they do today with Iraq and Afghanistan.
Irish/British people complaining about food abroad is hilarious.
She knew after ONE single night that you're a hopeless case ?
Thats terribly humilating, but her mentioning that you are opposites after you took it for good sex probably gave the problem away.
As a german. I laughed xD my god people, laugh about yourselves. We say nasty things about the britts too~
@@linajurgensen4698 get over yourself you kraut crybaby 😂
You're the reason the jokes will be told eternally.
He is one of the top end comedians out there but he's made his money and that's an Irish philosophy that surprises other cultures out there. Frankie Boyle's the same.
