    A small correction. Impact dampening does not determine the length of the improved guard window, that is a separate stat that can be seen in the advanced stat screen. Impact dampening is the percent of impact damage/stagger that your shield absorbs.

    This is a true beginner's guide. Most videos titled as such assume you've played the game extensively. This has actually taught me how to play the game (outside of experience, which is obviously a huge part). You explained each foundation concept before talking about how to use those mechanics. 43:44 Small sort-of correction here. The closer you are to your max EN load, the lower your EN Supply Efficiency goes. And it's not a minor difference like with your weight to booster power. If you're sitting right near your max, you basically stop regenerating meaningful amounts of energy if you aren't on the ground.
    I ran into that problem, where I was using a super fast EN Recharge Delay generator, with a low max load. (Probably the Ling-Tai engine you showing here, actually.) Was ~0.33 second before it'd start to recharge, but with the low load limit and a light core part, I was on such razor thin energy margin, my actual EN Supply Efficiency was like 500-1000 or something, where it barely ticked up while in the air. It was *more* effective to kill my energy entirely, and get a decent chunk back all at once when the energy supply recovered. Eventually had to change engines because of it.
    Edit: What I mean to say by all of this is it may be a good idea NOT to try and come as absolutely close as possible to your max EN Load if you want to stay in the air longer.

      This. There's a great build bringing lightweight legs and the biggest generator available, because you get so much energy recovery that you can almost infinitely spam dashes all the time. And you can pack low weight high EN energy weapons like crazy. True, your generator is 1/3rd of your total weight budget, but it results in an amazing and fun build if you like mobility.

    I think that tip about starting your build with the FCS is pure gold. I figured it was best to start with what weight and movement style you wanted, but deciding what range you wanna fight at first really pulls things together and helps you figure out parts and overall build you think would be best for you.

    • @zacharycallaghan7016
      @zacharycallaghan7016 9 місяців тому +2

      Agreed on this! So many videos/posts have suggested choosing legs first - intuitively this feels good because legs determine how your AC will control (tactics), but it’s actually much more important to establish your overall strategy vis-a-vis engagement range/weapon specialization first, and fill in your tactical options afterwards

    • @tadferd4340
      @tadferd4340 7 місяців тому

      FCS is a good starting point but I prefer to start at weapons or start with what I need for the obstacle I'm building for.
      Starting with weapons will build the rest of the AC for you, since you need to have a frame and internal parts to effectively use those weapons.
      Sometimes I start with a required characteristic or characteristics.
      There have been missions where I needed high map traversal with sustained moderate firepower. I built a high EN efficient AC with a balanced generator, Assault Boost optimized boosters, a mixed mid-short FCS and high ammo count energy weapons with sustained fire before over heating, and light weight plasma missiles.
      A different mission had a boss fight that is much easier with high boost speed and decent QB, but I also needed enough weight capacity to mount some heavy back weapons. This resulted in a build with light weight parts and the wheelchair legs.
      Some missions require a slog of dangerous enemies with no or minimal resupplys. Heavy frame parts for high AP and Defenses may be more useful than high speed.
      It's about determining what you need in a build and picking the parts that best fit those needs, while sacrificing what you don't need. My first example had terrible QB capabilities and that was fine. It had no use for them.

  • @tradeka4206
    @tradeka4206 9 місяців тому +29

    It was such a great decision to make it possible to resell the parts at 100% value. You can really tell that they wanted to encourage customization and experimentation. It’s also apparent from the different strategies you can use for different enemies. The wall for example was kind of tough for me until I realized that vertical missiles still hit it even when you’re in front. The game wants you to try different builds and experiment to overcome challenges. It’s really satisfying and fun, and I feel like this will give it a lot of replay value. I’m still on my first playthrough but I could see myself spending quite a bit of time on this game just messing around

    For those who never played the original AC games imagine this... PS2 has dual joysticks, BUT this is a brand new feature for video games. Which made it to where your viewpoint was not controlled with the joystick, instead you used L2 and R2 to raise and the lower your field of view as needed. And then turning in your mech would allow you to manipulate the x-axis. Your lock on range and field of view was a square, which grew in size and increased depth if range depending on which head was chosen. So to even achieve lock on in the first place, you would have to come within the range of your target, stay in range, and as you and your opponent are accessing the y-axis with boosters and whatnot, you have to be adjusting your FoV up and down with the triggers accordingly, real time in the heat of battle. Having had to learn to pilot an AC that way has give me an IMMENSE advantage in this new era. I can without a doubt say that this game is AMAZING and FromSoftware has made Magic again. I LOVE this game and recommend it to anyone and everyone who ever thought a mech battle was cool, at ANY point in their lives.... Come Live The Dream, Raven.... And Dont Forget To Smile 😉👍

    MNK feels ridiculously good to use for ACVI for anyone who’s been considering it. It took a mission or two but since then I just can’t go back to a controller at all, whatever I’m losing by not being on pad is made up for with the instant camera movement, clean 180 turns with a flick of the arm, and general spacing of inputs.
    The default layout is great, but if you do have a mouse like a Deathadder definitely make use of the extra buttons. I set reload and boost on them for cleaner access.

      @@jakefoley9539 Not really true. You can get by just fine if you have a build that you can personally pilot well. Most often you just need to swap out weaponry.
      From did say that swapping out to different builds is the intended way to play, which is why you can save builds.
      This isn't even the first game in the series that challenged the way you play if you were locked into a certain build. See any game where you had to platform with tank legs, or try to survive on water without hover legs, or try to take out a whole squad of ranged enemies with a melee build. It's not like it's a new thing to have suboptimal builds depending on the senario, that isn't new.

      @@jakefoley9539I can't say I like it either, but ive come to accept that this is the Armored Core way to play. Thats what people who have been playing the older games tell me at least. And I experienced it myself with the last boss of chapter 1. I died a dozen times to it untill I switched to a full tank setup to absorb the bullet hell chip damage and melt its shields with all out firepower. After that. the game punished me intypical Fromsoft fashion by making the next boss a melee attacker with big range. Swapping to a reverse biped build to dodge those attacks with ease and exploit the weakspot on top of it.

    Regarding shields: the portion you described as "impact dampening" is actually the IG (Initial Guard) Mechanic, which has its own stats in the fully expanded menu. Shields have a higher initial value for blocking when they're first deployed, which drops off to their idle active values. Standard shields are mostly meant to be held up to let the AC skirmish at mid-range and more easily trade shots, while bucklers come out fast, absorb a lot of impact and damage with their initial deployment, but have poor coverage and are useless for sustained blocking.
    Shields are hard to make use of effectively, but they're still a solid pick in most mid-range setups.

    • @SethAbercromby
      @SethAbercromby 9 місяців тому +2

      My current loadout (right after clearing wallclimber) uses a pulse shield with the standard assault rifle, energy saber and the dual missile launcher that fires in a V pattern. All of that with reverse jointed legs with an emphasis on rapid movement.
      I try throw out the shield to cross through enemy fire and in response to powerful back weapons being deployed. You always want to avoid damage where you can of course, but if you end up having to take a big hit in a more fragile chassis like this, it's a great way to minimize damage and stay on your feet.

    • @SethAbercromby
      @SethAbercromby 9 місяців тому

      @@vitaz145 I'll be honest, since I made that post I've started to play around more with the shoulder-mounted arm weapon slot option and have pretty much dropped shields entirely since.
      My current build is somehow even lighter and more fragile than it was before and being able to dual trigger a weapon that can stagger easily like the handcannon and than swap it for one with huge direct hit potential (like melee or shotgun) basically gives me the best of both worlds. And with how vulnerable my build is, shields aren't really making enough of a difference to make up for that loss of potential with handheld power weapons.

    As someone who has been playing ACVI as their first Armored Core, I’ve definitely gotten stuck at a couple moments (mostly chapter bosses, Balteus was my longest hangup, moving into chapter 4 now) and the one piece of advice I can give to fellow new Ravens is to absolutely be willing to buy and sell parts if something is giving you a challenge and remain persistent; ex. I swapped to have a Pulse gun in my left to assist in depleting it’s pulse shield faster as it does more to it. You have four slots for weapons- make good use of each and find what’s comfortable for you but be willing to swap parts and weapons at a whim if something has you stuck. Also melee is WAY better than you think, and always prioritize new Arena missions as they become accessible as OST mods are great.

    Hands down, big respect to you and love this tutorial. As someone who on many occasions struggles with games of this type, with their hugely challenging boss fights primarily, it has on more than one occasion made me give up on past games. I find the advice you presented very helpful in changing both my tactics, overall mindset, and approach to this game in such a way that i hope to be playing this game for a long time to come, thank you!

    Im really glad you made this video since this is is my first armoured core game.
    Im only a few levels in so far and i havent had too much trouble yet but there was a random heavy tetrapod i stumbled upon a few levels in that gave me a bit of a hard time so i know there are going to be things I need to improve

    Great video! I'm almost done with my NG+ playthrough and there were still a few things I hadn't picked up on that you mentioned. For instance, I have never noticed the ricochet warning, and I wasn't thinking so much about my ideal range values. I wish I was blessed with your powers of observation.

    This helped me out so much! I’m going to go and reevaluate my concept of heavy armament only ideas. Chapter 1 boss is a beast and gets me every time.

    Awesome video! Certainly the best informative UA-cam vid I've watched for this game imo, and i feel it should be at the top of the list when searching for beginners tips or tips n tricks, etc. Really goes into detail that's easy to understand about all the important aspects of tackling this masterpiece of a game, and I highly recommend to beginners or even players returning to the series when playing for the first time. Great job man, thank you!
