    I actually really love the lore he put into his AC for this video
    A pilot who was so legendary and confident in their abilities that they put their ENTIRE networth into making their AC out of pure gold because they were so incredibly confident they would never get hit or scratched. They breeze through missions and tear enemies apart, without a scratch on their perfect golden AC.
    Then, on a mission, the pilot makes just one tiny mistake which puts an incredibly small *scratch* right on their armor. This one mistake is enough to make the AC pilot lose it, they turn from a legendary operator to an absolute beast that no longer cares about the condition of their AC. They stop caring for it, stop polishing it, and start allowing hits to be made on them - but they hit back much harder than they ever have before.

    • @vencelfoldi8236
      @vencelfoldi8236 Рік тому +65

      So true. I experimented with builds a lot and often tried to make specialized AC-s for missions, but I always had the ol' reliable setup, the build which I knew wasn't the best but was the closest to my playstyle and in general I was just the most comfortable with. Most of the times having an AC tailor fit for my exact playstyle felt just as rewarding as one tailor fit for the mission. And it also adds a tiny bit of a roleplay feel to it. It's not an AC assembled for a mission, it is MY armored core.

    • @Mirvra
      @Mirvra Рік тому +61

      Thing is, both methods are completely valid.
      If you make a specialized AC for every encounter you're displaying your understanding of your enemies weaknesses and your strategic ability to exploit them.
      And if you make one singular AC, either a jack of all trades, or a personality specialized one(IE: An AC molded to fit your playstyle completely). You can then show your tactical ability in how you use your AC's strengths and weaknesses to overcome challenges that might sometimes seem insurmountable for a lesser skilled pilot.

      There is a surprisingly well written story in this game that involves you. Although it is still an armored core game, so dont expect something extraordinary here.
      There are about 10 BIG boss battles. then most levels also have at least one miniboss in it, and then ofcourse there are enemy ACs, and the arena making for the most thrilling fights and there are at least 20 of those + the arena where you fight them 1on1.
      This game IS costomization, this shouldn't even be a question. the answer is just "yes" ofcourse there is a lot of customization and stuff to collect, this is armored core, this is the soul of the game.

    The Tetrapod sniper in Mission 4 honestly feels like the point where any _Souls_ veterans who've never touched an _Armored Core_ game will find themselves thinking, 'Hang on, these attacks have _patterns_ to them!' In close-quarters, I noticed it kept relying on its shotgun and blade, but many of its attacks leave it wide open on its right flank when they miss -- dodge to the left, then light her up.

      I've ran through that mission over a dozen times to test out different setups on that enemy. it killed me my first three or so playthroughs of the mission (I was adamant to leave no survivors.) like the fourth time around, something clicked where I was like "wait, it has well-defined patterns and timings to its shots and swings. I can definitely dodge these consistently."
      haven't died to it since, even if I've came close w less than great setups.
      edit: it has since applied to many, many other enemies as well. like the Stridor eye, wiped me my first few tries until I realized the timing.
      I use a pretty lightweight mech w a big burner so my dodges scoot me everywhere.

      @loafloafer to give you an idea of how complicated the older titles were: we used to have to worry about cooling in addition to energy while not being able to use the thumbsticks to aim or move. In AC Nexus: Evolution alone I must have spent hundreds of hours just trying to get my cooling rate balanced with energy. With emulators using joysticks or changing face inputs is simple, but things haven't always been so friendly hahaha another thing that stands out is that we had to switch to our R. BACK weapon. You couldn't just fire it with a button press, it was an alternate to your R. ARM but you could fire your L. ARM while using R. BACK. And some of our weapons straight stopped us like the Gatling for the BACK, it could fire 25 shots before reloading but you couldn't move and shoot with it.

    Edit 2: After watching it - I can understand why you would have given up around Balteus. Balteus definitely can be beaten without taking damage, but it would require a very precise combination of assault boosting and quick dodging on a suitably fast build due to his missile spam. Other than his missile spam none of his other attacks are as hard to fully avoid. A good strategy would probably be to have enough damage to basically instantaneously break his shield and stagger him while staying close enough that he can't use his missiles often. I have beaten him multiple times with different strategies, but never really was trying to take "no damage" (avoiding 95% of the missiles while being aggressive was enough), so I can't comment much more.

    Something in previous games that would help a lot, is some cores had missile defense systems. They would automatically shoot down small missiles that came in range and they had a limited amount of ammo for this. In missions with a lot of annoying missiles I would switch to cores with very good missiles defense. It didn't work on large missiles which is fine since they were slow and dodgable but it would still try and waste an ammo on that. Light cores typically had better missile defense which somewhat made them comparable to the huge amounts of AP heavy cores had, which would usually have auto turrets instead. Also previous games had Flare weapons which would attract missiles to them and protect you from volleys of missiles. I bring this up because missiles are IMO the most annoying thing in this game and I wish these anti-missile features returned.

    • @Winasaurus
      @Winasaurus Рік тому +1

      It's odd because there ARE flares in this game, though you'd be forgiven for thinking literally noone has them. As far as I know there's only 1 very specific type of enemy that uses them, and it's the PCA LCs, and even though only certain ones get the flares. It's very odd. As soon as I saw it I thought there'd be a shoulder-mounted flare launcher that would distract missiles, but nope.

I think it's probably possible to no-damage beat Sulla, but I think it'd be perfect play and luck at the same time, and that's beyond mind-numbing to try and grind through.

Some of the lasers have 0 warning with low damage, and if you stick on him too long to avoid those, you're going to get slapped with a wave of pulses.

      @@senounatsuru6453 I know this is an old comment but I do want to make a small clarification. For the most part "no damage" means avoidable damage. Tunnel Sabotage is basically a poison swamp and there is actually no way around losing life, The rest of them game is damage avoidable. Don't believe, me? I have a video that compiles each mission in a FoR endinf playthrough with the misisons being completed hitless. Furthermore I've completed chapters 1, 2 and 5 hitless. Chapters 3 and 4 are a bit more tricky but I've got chapter 3 down to 6 hits and chapter 4 down to 11. The actual difficulty is terminal armor on some of the enemy ACs. There is no way to kill them outright.

    There's a mission around chapter 3-4 (can't remember which) where the end has you escape from a cave while you take constant, unavoidable damage due to

    vaati's commentary is the best because its like listening to one of your friends explain one of his favorite games to you in a call or irl and you no idea what he's talking about, except we do and its just gives off a weird wholesome vibe to his commentary
    anyway, good job with the no dmg run!

    VaatiVidya, your videos are just incredible, they are such an intricate balance between content, lore, style, humour and tips, and somehow a soothing tell-tale tone is always there despite the hardships FromSoft fans have to endure. Thank you for everything you’re putting up, hope you keep on doing that forever !

    Seeing you put actual thought into your loadout is amazing. I've never played any AC games before this one and had no idea what to do, so I just went "two missile launchers on the back, sure. One rifle, why not the one you have at the start, seems balanced. One melee weapon, starter blade is fine, okay" (until the funky missile spam drone, after which I saw the pile bunker and decided I could never use anything else ever again). I think I only used different weapons twice in the entire playthrough, when I absolutely couldn't hit something with the explodey stick :D
    Also, thank you for the tutorial video. If I hadn't watched that, I might have decided to just stay away from every enemy and just use missiles forever, but hitting them in the face is much better.

    Watching Vaati be insane at armored core because he played all of the old games is actually really cool to see. This guy went from mediocre Armored Core player to a very very above average one. I just got into armored core through the 6th one, immediately stuck to a close range speed and glass cannon build and took it to the end of the game.
    Also spoilers, killed Ayre with a shotgun, a machine gun, and 2 shoulder mounted energy rockets, one vertical one twin triple pods. Zimmerman paired with the small machine gun (not the Gatling gun)
    I use the smallest reverse joint legs, with that one really efficient electric based generator, with the fastest booster. Chest piece is the same chest piece as Steel Haze Rusty's, I have the helmet on from the NEW Steel Haze (the one I didn't break... Until I did) and the uhhhhh, the arms that are small and look kinda like forward facing intake vents. The built is actually pretty strong, especially with the close range targeting help of that one module.
    Terminal Shield as well since I basically just die when I stagger. Longest I spent on a boss was 30 mins and that was Balteus, I'd say I'm pretty good for a new player. No guides or nothing beat it day 1 blind.

    10:22 I believe the fire on the end of the rocket may have a hitbox that does a minimal amount of damage because it clipped into you for a frame or two.
