I want to make a point here about discussing the stakeholders section (nikita etc.) as I think this may bring some negative attitudes towards certain people. I believe people deserve to be paid and compensated for their value of bringing an idea to fruition. Otherwise Tarkov would of never existed in the first place or grown to what it is now. So whilst they've been paid a lot I think they deserve the money personally.

I’m of course honored that you took the time to watch this and break it down, but especially because you provided elaboration on many points I didn’t get the chance to include. This video was originally FAR longer and much more opinionated; it was rewritten and cut down drastically. Imagine if they added different variations of the Hideout?
Same unlocks, same everything - but graphically different.

      @Dickstick 5 місяців тому

I highly doubt that will happen.
Skins like you mean it generally get implemented in a game where you can nearly exclusively buy cosmetics and nothing else. Nothing that completely alters you game experience.
Tarkov is way beyond that with "pay 2 win" editions and their coming microtransactions, that provide a massive advantage towards other players.
I believe they will much likely implement more p2w features, like instant lvl 50 in certain skills, no wait for constructing/crafting stuff or buying trader rep for real life money instead of purely cosmetic skins. Get ready to pay real money for predefined kits.

Accountant here. Ending a year in a loss position isn't really necessarily a bad thing or an uncommon one. Financial projections and data require year over year trend analysis to really understand the true specifics and while I'm also skeptical about the motives, I think it's important to mention that there's is a heavy cost associated with maintaining a game like this and its server/player base.
"Going back on your word" isn't necessarily the bad thing it has been painted as, and if they've realized they need a consistent income stream to ensure that Tarkov stays online, I can say that as a reasonably informed consumer, I can make the logical leaps necessary to understand it. Admitting you were wrong and telling the truth about what's necessary in a modern business environment is something I can commend.
Definitely going to be skeptical, but I'm hopeful for the future of it, and am glad to see the barrier to entry reduced slightly.

Instead of falling down the cats, stats, and "blue" rabbit hole, you focus on cool new game mechanics similar to the old Battlefield formula. Where this expansion added this faction and their vehicles, that expansion added spec-ops, zip-lines, and grapples etc. Seems a lot more fitting to Tarkov. Hot Take:
I think BSG should add micro transactions in the form of purchasing Roubles
    Reason
plenty of people have interviewed or talked with or made content with cheaters and not saying all cheaters but i do believe a good bit of them do it for financial gain.
Now if BSG themselves sold roubles it would be much harder for the people cheating to grind up roubles to sell them if you could just buy them directly through BSG.
Would it make the game pay to win sure but anyone who has actually put time into this game knows that its extremely easy to make money so you could still grind roubles for free or you could just buy them
im not saying its perfect but if you take away the cheaters ability to make cheating profitable then I truly do believe we would see less cheaters

There is no excuse for a game that looks this bad, and the maps being this small, that this game struggles to get past 100 FPS on a very good machine. To me that is an embarrassment in the industry. I'm not a programmer so I don't know the technical shit involved, but it's almost like each texture is fully modeled on each side and the map is being double rendered. There is something that programmers in BSG are not doing that practically every other first world dev is doing. There is some type of engineering technique that is lacking for this to be happening.

There is no game like Tarkov nor will there ever be. I believe many people are so critical of BSG because the game is so unique that if some change were to come through that ruins the experience, there is no alternative and that makes people overly anxious. There are plenty of MTX that I can genuinely get behind if only to financially support a project I care about (cat in the hideout/hideout customization is stellar) I definitely understand the fears that MTX could change the actual gameplay experience, but I think it's appropriate to trust the BSG team here to have the foresight and understanding of their own product to be capable of finding ways to add support options without that kind of impact.

The gunplay is unique in that its made by an indie game... ArmA, or any tactical shooter could easily provide similar gunplay, too. Games aren't typically about spending your real money on, they're supposed to be an escape. For developers, the money solves itself, it's a side-effect. You're already making a game with the purpose of gaining something out of it. I think people forget BSG was once indie, just like any other groundbreaking developer that has made history.

Depending on UK law their accountant might list certain costs under certain categories to reduce their overall tax liability to the government. This is kind of why you have to look at financial reports as not a clear picture of what money goes where, but can give you an overall idea of general health of the company. @pestily If you look at the Statement of Cash Flows for the financial records from dated 1/31/2023, no money was taken out of the company by the shareholders. This does not include the salary paid to Nikitia for him to live/devote his time to the project. But no dividend paid for 2023. There were also no dividends paid in 2022, so the only comp to shareholders would be salaries paid to employees who are also shareholders. In fact, it looks like in 2022, due to the loss for the year, Nikita and Dmitriy took a portion of their salary in an IOU (Almost 5 Million each) This may indicate they are paid over this amount each year in salary, which is also included in the cost of sales figure. Moreover, in the notes, they indicate only one person works in the administration of the back office. This cannot be correct with a multinational business. All the tax implications for sales of digital product in the US alone would require a full time person, or a massive amount of third party contractors inputting this information.

RMT'ers (hackers/sellers) will know exactly what they need to make money back on those slots and how much to ensure the're making profit from the base account + the extra slots. Before they had to consider time loss to unlock the rest of the stash space.., now they can stay low till they hit proffit point then start hacking like crazy till they get banned.

Let´s get this straight: Bsg has spend millions on ineffective marketing campaigns, events and even a tv level show. They have NOT delivered the product they sold. They have paid shittons of money for weapon licences. They have NOT kept up to their promises and continued developing the game as it was advertised. They have started trying to monetize aspects of the game, after promising for years to never EVER add microtransactions into the game. They have NOT fixed the atrocious netcode/server issues that have been plaguing the game since 2017.
They have been acting like blizzard. A boyclub, throwing money into the fire under a delusion of grandeur, while delivering NOTHING they had advertised or promised to their costumer base. Remember Areana? The millions of bucks wasted on advertising that suppossedly developed for more than 2 years product? They gave us tdm in tarkov. If that took two years, what hope is there for them to ever finish this pile of softwaretrash? Two years, for tdm. Two years to place some spawnpoints and make preset equipment. AND THEY EVEN FAILED AT THAT. Arena is missing more than half it´s marketed content, has performance and server issues out the ass and they are trying to market this as esports worthy? This shit isn´t even lanparty worthy. TWO SECOND DELAYS IN A FAST PACED FPS? Balance that makes pay2win games blush, and a progress system that makes walking through razor wire more attractive.
But yeah sure, let´s reward that mismanagement, incompetence and fraudulence with microtransaction! Woho, million dollar company needs MORE MULA! Let´s throw our, on average actaully earned, money at them BECAUSE THEY ARE SUCH A GREAT STUDIO! Oh wait, they aren´t.
Oh, yeah i forgot. Expecting to be delivred the product you paid for after it being marketed to you in a certain way and then not being happy or silent about every single aspect that made you buy the product being changed, or thrown out the window, is hypercritical and toxic. Oh yeah totally, protect the poor million dollar companies feelings, they are doing nothing wrong by ripping people off. there´s a good reason less than 1/3rd of the tarkov community is still active in that game, and the reasons haven´t changed in the last 8 years. And just because some delulu creators are so enamoured with their game they lose any touch to reality, isn´t the other costumers problem. But sadly bsg rather listend to you delulus instead of the THOUSANDS OF PLAYERBASE COMPLAINTS.

I don’t really play tarkov anymore (started in 2016) but my thoughts are that this would make more sense if the game was at full release. Also perhaps I haven’t seen the correct info but are the stash expansions permanent? As in do they carry over each wipe? Because this means again this is a temporary injection of cash until they add the next micro transaction and there are only so many things you can monetise until it does become p2w.

I have a serious question that I do not understand...When a game like HalfLife is released, all the work (for the most part) has been done. Then they rely on game sales to pay back the initial investment and if the game does well, then hooray...bonuses for all. With a game like Tarkov where they "sold" copies of an unfinished game to further fund the development...what is going to happen when the game releases and the wave of people who wanted to buy this game already have it? Where is the income at that point? I mean, there are still literally dozens of skills in the game that are not implemented even for testing. How is this game even close to a 1.0 release? The only thing I can think...is they home the game stays popular enough that cheaters can still make money with RMT. They ban those accounts (without addressing putting a full stop to cheaters) so then the cheaters have to continually buy new accounts?

I think they will inevitably end up in a subscription based loop. MTX will enable some funding and possibly allow server costs for a short while but MTX isn't guaranteed income and will need constant additions just to keep the money moving. Again its like buying another copy of the game, you buy it once then they are stuck trying to figure out how to get more money to support the game. Subscriptions will 100% guarantee server costs and even allow funding for future projects. With Subs and MTX as a side venture it would easily keep the game going for an indefinite time. I see no other way.

Pest, I need to make a point to whoever uploads your videos to tune your AdSense from default down a little... I should not have 4 ads on a 20 minute vid.
Makes it really hard for me to recommend your channel to anyone when I have to add a caveat that they need to install an ad blocker to truly enjoy your content.
Just tune it down from default (UA-camrs algorithm is atrocious not your teams fault at all).

I don't understand why the advertising for Arena is even in the equation. 500,000 out of 83,000,000 is 0.6% of their budget. Even 2 million would only be 2%. That is absolutely nothing for an advertising budget

I've said it for the last 2 wipes I would pay a monthly sub to tarkov to be able to download and rewatch raids I was in and fly cam to watch it all. Just have servers they save too and once the last pmc is out of raid make that raid downloadable for 4 hours before its wiped off the server to keep space free.

Then you would see how badly the cheaters are infesting the game. Would be nice, but would break the ban/buy cycle. It would give them a steady income though which might be a decent persuasion to start hardware banning people. I don't think it would ever happen though. They can barely make the kill cams in Arena work right.

I actually don't mind the idea that they sell useful functionality that doesn't directly impact raids. Offline co op. Maybe a raid review tool. A scenario editor (WOULD LOVE THIS). Cosmetics for the hideout. Additional character slots. Maybe immersive settings that make raids HARDER (i.e., an official hardcore mode, or extract determines next raid location)
That kind of thing is vastly preferable to character skins, ruble purchases, etc. Plus, some of these can be sold per-wipe.

It's not like their brought this upon themselves by switching the intended final product idea halfway the game rising in popularity, dumping what initial supporters and niche supporters were buying into something that tries to get closer to "Triple AAA" Call of Duty with realistic aspects in an extraction shooter while not addressing the community properly ever or even caring about feedback, disregarding issues that can be fixed faster and content droughts / balance issues, caused by none other than themselves. They had the initial formula for the base game solid, required polishing instead of their constant attempts at remixing them, messing with AI without any attempts at overhauling it, messing trading, messing the market, etc.
We had Offline with the ability to pull loot when the game was very early, just low tier loot which was the only thing available at these offline matches, which was very praised for not being op at all and aiding newer users fighting gear fear, gun play was solid being that overall most things worked well being mostly tied to user skill, where attachments were small increments in gun play, but not enough to the point where not taking any made you super vulnerable. People still customized their guns in all whacky manners, no metas, but you still felt good using a default gun.
I have insane doubts regarding their financial reports, from Nikita and his other half receiving extra wages in the rounds of a few dozens of thousands directly from their paper offices outside RU, best part is this has been public for a loooong while. Both the US and UK offices have these stated. Where has all the cash they got so far gone ? Because it doesn't feel it went into improving the game.
They have all the tools to fix ongoing issues and even more to push for actual growth, not snowball early access for years to the point where all these years can be sadly resumed to going around doing and undoing core mechanics, minimal changes, a bit of content to stop each stalling, they actually have the tools currently without reworking current AI to make it a lot more interesting which we have been using for a while via mods, armour system which could've been better balanced and has been in the backgrounds of the game for a while to the point we also have been using it more than an year and half before implementation via...... mods, all this via mods which exploit either their laziness, incompetence, or greed to hold features to stop stalling as it is common for BSG since stopping stalls means a wave of popularity and sells. I don't think they lack funding at all, it's just easier to not adress community feedback and turn "lack of funding" into our issue. From making the user travel from map to map tied to where they extract, call-ins, sight and attachments locations changed on the rails, high / low ready, tilted aim as an option while using goggles or not as it's helpful in CQB, more guns, more clothing, etc, from people who do it for fun in somewhat short windows of time, alone, while having jobs...
But hey who am I to judge BSG in milking their own game, delay features on purpose, copy pasting (or copy the previous homework but make it different) the little public adressings they do ? They deviated a ton from the original intended game as soon as they started to get more and more money.
But hey if they lose funding and abandon the game that's actually good..... right ??? At least we could continue the game now with the modders/community.

Imagine how much a massive offline mode or PvE update would do for the game.
People who hate the cheaters and don't want to deal with things like desync or networking could finally come back to the game.
One reason I liked Tarkov was that it was a one and done game. You buy the version you want, and if you want the extra stuff, you upgrade. The weird part about the model in the first place was how your stash was tied to the amount of money you spent on the game anyways.
The problem only came up now because they got rid of EOD, and now they can get you with a different transaction under a different name. The EOD removal at this stage in development in my opinion is a little silly, but we all knew it would happen eventually. I just wish they had waited until a lot closer to full release.

I think arena only flopped because of the terrible loadouts. its still tarkov at the end of the day. but if im forced to use sets i hate, (like having to do shooter born or all the bosses quests and bolty quests etc) im just not gonna have a good time and ill jsut go back to waiting 5 minutes per raid loading screen, and the few minutes it takes to re gear.

I bought Tarkov in 2020. My first thought after playing it was "how are they going to keep the servers up without a monthly fee". Monthly fees are off the menu due to the original sales, but they could do some sort of parallel wipe with a small fee for entry or rentable private servers.

I laughed then pestily said that game needs only one map and quests to be released. Right now it needs a lot of work on audio system, hit registration, and really needs a lot of optimization because to have stable 60 fps on streets and lighthouse you need almost top tier processor and 32g of ram and it’s just not accessible. Plus it needs good anti cheat.

I truly believe asking as tarkov sticks to the core game that it was supposed to be from the beginning and make a truly freeroam across all maps then it will succeed. They just need to deliver on what was promised from day 1.

I'm really curious to see how they TRULY spend their money. I legit don't believe they spend the money in a proper manner. The simple fact they pushed arena when the playerbase didn't care at all about it is one of the first sign that the management is truly inapt to run the company. Seen how many times the game's direction wasn't clear and that things changed on the opposite way they intended ? Just look how recoil changed 5 times in less than 3 years

I know I'm going to be bashed by people here, but tweaking a few things for EFT to be a bit more mainstream friendly would help open up the game to more sales. For example, by keeping the map in your pocket or backpack while exploring a map during a live raid would allow you to mark certain areas of interest, for example quest areas and extraction points. This alone would keep me going as it takes such a long time to learn a map

Also cheaters buying accounts is not conflict of interest. More bans = more money, so the incentive is to ban as many players as possible.

One other thing I want to bring up that I don’t think people are talking about is the state of arena. Arena is now tarkov’s little brother. BSG has to support arena AS WELL as Tarkov now. If arena is not going to preform the way it was supposed to and is a huge flop tarkov needs to pick that slack up. So now a gamble that was made to boost overall revenue into tarkov has severely backfired to where tarkov now has to support both itself and arena, which was never planned for. Tarkov could have been funded to completion without arena, but now it needs to support arena so that it does not die either.

I think a good idea they could do to make more revenue is put up billboards in game people could purchase to advertise real life products. Therefore no microtransactions and its kind of immersive because its just real advertisements in game.

    • @Regular_Fish_Guy

I'd argue its less immersive. Your no longer playing thru a uniquely crafted world with its own lore. Seeing a real life brand would instantly get me thinking about the real world and not the game.

BSG should just sell $20 DLC special editions such as:
    100% Boss Spawn Edition
    Guarantee no cheaters edition
    No exfil camping edition
    Zero stupid, repetitive quests edition
    Re-worked PMC spawn edition
Guarantee scavs don't spawn until 20mins left in raid edition

If you run at a loss for a few years but start to gather constant profit, depending on how many years have passed you will be able to take the loss from past years and use that as tax reduction, thats what amazon did as an example, it started a lot of drama because people dont know how taxes work so they thought Amazon just didnt pay tax.

People dont realize that a multiplayer-centric game CANNOT be funded by one-off initial sales. That is a single-player sales mechanic, not one that works for multiplayer.
