    Watching this now after an experience with a super rude swimmer who took it personally when I asked to share the lane. Since there were several other swimmers getting ready for work. I mentioned it was etiquette to share the lane. It is super frustrating when the pools do not encourage or enforce circle swimming because as a high level past swimmer, it is abhorrent to be given a freak out because someone refuses to share or read the rules. This video is so important.

    Don't wear a speedo if your beer gut drags along the bottom of the pool.

    If you don't have designated lanes for speed, or a dedicated swim direction, then a check in with those using the lane before joining them.

    DON'T push off as someone else comes in to turn.
    DON'T split the lane in a busy pool, it doesn't matter if there are only two people in the lane now, it's a pain in the ass for anyone else who wants to get in the lane.
    DO check the direction of the lane before getting in.
    DO be conscious of where everyone else is in your lane (something I've been guilty of failing to do)

    Don't push off of the damn wall when someone is turning. The rage induced popped artery makes a terrible mess.

      I think (at least from experience now I'm just a public guy) it's the watches. People keep looking for when their watch tells them to go and pay no attention to the lane.

    If you do get tapped on the foot with someone indicating they would like to pass, would is the right thing to do? Slow down? Stop to let them pass?

      Let them pass at the end of the lane.

    Never thought this needed to be said (but today’s experience proved me wrong). When someone is doing laps of the pools and clearly started their watch before, do not pull on their arm when they are doing their turn at the wall because you need to talk to them! 🤬 P.S This was a stranger but never stopped when he was swimming and I was resting at the wall!!!

    Hey Mark, So what do you do when someone runs afoul of all of the said (etiquette) rules? Are hockey fights permitted? Just kidding... Two more questions? i) Where would you say is safe to keep your (tri) gear at or near the pool side (or the also somewhat frowned upon)? ii) Can I wear my Roka Maverick X in a pool (to test it out) without looking like a ......? Thanks in advance! JSP

      Pools can be touchy about stuff like that. Mine won't allow anything that goes below the knee. Besides, you'll cook in a wetsuit in a pool.

    Don’t wear a heart rate monitor and leave your Garmin at home! That’s what those clocks on the walls are for! ;)

      @SuStPa 6 років тому +1

      Unfortunately there isnt a single pool in my hometown with this clock, so a garmin watch becomes unavoidable

    What is the rule if you are using swim aids like a kick board etc do you swap into a different lane or if you can maintain the pace do you stay in the current lane you are in?

    • @jonathanfarrell3566
      @jonathanfarrell3566 6 років тому

      Craig Orrell kickboard: if it's for a short period of time, stay in that lane, be conscious who is around you, stay to extreme side of the lane (hug the lane line) and let others pass

    • @maikholzhey6167
      @maikholzhey6167 6 років тому +1

      Find it very annoying if people stay in the same lane with the kick board. It's just unnecessary to do it in the fast lane

    • @jonathanfarrell3566
      @jonathanfarrell3566 6 років тому

      Depends on the set. If I was doing something that alternated kick with swim, I'd likely stay. If it was a dedicated kick set, I'd move

    Sadly here most swimmers do not know or follow most of the rules. And especially non sportive swimmers with breast stroke swimming in the middle of the slow area so it's really difficult to pass. On the other side, people being much faster with swimming free style also swim in the slow area as if they are alone and do not give any ***, wether they hurt others. Unfortunately it's mostly men behaving like that. So if you are swimming free style being faster/breast stroke slower than the absolute majority of the line, please switch to another. Also please turn clock/counterclockwise instead of going on one side back and forth!

    Repeated taps in open water deserve kicks to the face...as they tend not to be taps but jerks trying to swim over you...haven't successfully kicked back yet though because I'm usually trying not to drown...

  • @TheAndreMD
    @TheAndreMD 6 років тому +7

    Am I the only one who pees in the pool? C'mon don't lie 😉

    • @luckybastardshawaii2834
      @luckybastardshawaii2834 6 років тому +3

      A 150x50m pool holds about 675,000 gallons of water. An average pee is 16 oz or 0.125 gallons per pee. That means that a pee is 0.000019% of the total of a pool. Meaning there is no way the pool changes color or increase in temperature. Get over yourselves prudes. Sitting on a public toilet seat is waaaaaaaaay worse than peeing in a pool.

    • @luckybastardshawaii2834
      @luckybastardshawaii2834 6 років тому +3

      Then stop drinking pool water by learning to swim properly.

    • @jameskenyon4769
      @jameskenyon4769 6 років тому +2

      If you're saying absolutely no water goes in your mouth when swimming you're lying

    • @luckybastardshawaii2834
      @luckybastardshawaii2834 6 років тому +2

      And if you’re saying you’re not pulling in sweat, dandruff, toe cheese and various other things that come off every swimmer that swims in the pool you’re in, then you’re dumber than you seem. Maybe you’d be better off to avoid the pool completely.

    The pool is not a singles' club. No chatting up the ladies (or gents) when they're trying to work out.

      No harm in a friendly chat, but do so outside the swimming lanes yeah. nothing more annoying than people just hanging around talking at the ends of lanes.
