I think it’d be a good idea to pull the factory dash and adhere it well with some type of glue or 3m tape. Think it’d reduce the noise people complain about 😅
Had a coverlay dash cap. To be exact 5 of them on the same car. Looks great at first, but glue it as soon as you install or else it will warp and not fit correctly. Always use a window shade with these as they can warp over time. Currently just going to get a near mint dash then have it covered in leather just to be done with the issue.
My usual steps is to adhere some foam to the cap then using different adhesive to sit on the dash. Always recommend foam since over time certain spots will squeak like a mother beeper and it’s a 30min fix
@@BlakesGarage I feel you man. In case you're not a fan or it gets messed up. What I've heard so far about it from e30 guys is that it holds up pretty good and it does have that suede feel.
My dash isn't cracked. Previous owners had it for 16 years and garaged it. Plus being in Seattle area it's a cooler climate overall. I'm probably going to pull it out and save it. And grab a cracked dash and flock it.
I flocked mine, make sure you do it with an electrostatic applicator so the fibres stand on end, the pump packs are terrible. Only problem is keeping it clean and preventing fade...
Scott Whyatt yeah that’s the only downside I saw to flocking. Dust seems like it would be impossible to clean off but I guess it just become part of the look lol 😂
What most yall dont get is its annoying to pull that thing out. And it isn't cheap to get your stuff repaired and wrapped correctly by a pro. Blake isn't out here with with billions in his account. Y'all need to chill
Francis Powell Lamborghini and Ferrari have used alcantara on dashboards for years as have many GT and race cars they use this to reduce interior dash reflections onto the windscreen..if done well it can look good 👍
5150mario I haven’t glued anything yet and fitment is still amazing. I’m not going to glue it until I finish up my cage so I can have a nice finished dash and not have to cut up a clean one.
hello blake how are you? tell me you have a return of this piece 2 years later? lol or is it not moving yet? thanks haha sry for my bad english it's google trad x) ( im french )
Nice solution. Pretty decent to the alternative which is several hours of pulling out a dash then sending it out to get redone. I want to flock mine and give it that rally look. But this isn't a bad alternative.
That’s what I’m saying! I know a few people that have had them for years and you honestly can’t even tell. Looks OE same pattern and everything blend right in and looks way better than the old cracked dash.
Thinking about getting an e30, but everyone I talk to says they’re unreliable and junk. I love everything about them and I think it’ll be a great start into getting into the car community. Any thoughts?? 🤔
Rodcasso don’t listen to them. E30s can be very reliable and enjoyable as daily driving cars (I’ve daily drove an e30 through Scottish winters). Find a decent example to start with and just spend the money to initially bring the car to a good standard ie. cooling system, power steering (if any) , brakes, suspension etc etc . There are so many options when it comes to body style and engine performance, so go for it and you’ll never look back
I bought my 2nd and current E30 7 years ago and it drives like the day I bought her. It has the 6 cylinder with a 5-speed and over 200k miles at this point, and I haven't had any major problems with it. Just find a good one and take really good care of it (replacing things when they break/basic maintenance) and it'll treat you right.
I bought my e30 about 4 years ago and its been my daily. Most major work I had to do was replace the head cuz it had a crack in it an replace the cat. Other things like brakes, suspension and other wear items are going to be expected just do to the age of these vehicles.
Depends what condition you want the car in. Mine was a daily driver for 4 years with about $3,000 in repairs. Now. Trying to restore everything and currently at about $13,000 into it.
It looks great actually. 100x better than the old cracked dash. Also remember the purpose of this car I don’t car about creaks. The fitment is spot on and I don’t hear anything additional because of adding this.
"not quite sure why that side of the car is locked" ... Sound like you bought the car yesterday or something. If you own the car for a good while you definitely should know everything that's wrong with it.
I guess if you wanna be lazy and not fix the dash or actually replace the dash. By the way, a dash over isn’t an actual dash. Might wanna fix the title bud.
Definitely a good alternative over trying to find a good dash or even swapped it because let's be honest that's not gonna be fun and it will rattle like hell afterwards.
Next video we need to know how noisy the dash cap is while driving.
My car will never tell you that it’s so loud all ready lol 😂
@@BlakesGarage so there IS a vibration or added noise from the dash cover?
@@gracci01 this whole E30 is a vibration noise so I couldn’t tell ya
I have one that came in a e30 I bought a few years back. The sun heat Bows it out over time

If you think covering it in leather will solve the problem, you've never seen a ten year old L6 or L7.
The e30 is a manual now! last time i watched it was a auto autoxing lol. hell yeah
Can you give us an update on the dash cover? Any issues? Thanks

Came to check out the dash and saw the wheel!!! So sick
Thanks
It’s all fun and games until the sun/heat warp it into a piece of bacon! My E28 had one in it when I bought it and it was horrid
Brenden Serna mine did the same in my E30
Interesting 🤔 was it glued down or no? If you’re garage kept I’d think there wouldn’t be an issue. Happen to know the brand or where it was made?
I thought you would repair the cracks and flock the dash. It would reduce glare on the windshield and give you that rally car/race car look.
It may happen someday but I’d want a donor dash before I do it.

Nice 👍🏼 I always though of doing that. May do it when I Full cage the car but for now I’ll keep the dash in place.
@@BlakesGarage definitely a good plan. I rather a good piece not go to waste since atm I have no garage.

I have those little turtle thingys too there older than me
Updates??? Thank you!
Nice band aid !
I wonder why there’s no opening for the vin.
I dont have cracks but it has boubeled up in the trays
You got my excited then I used the link and realised they don’t make a right hand drive version :’(
I loved mine until it came unglued due to warpage. Now it wobbles and shakes. This took nearly 5 years. I may replace, not sure
i just use those anti freeze windshield covers when my e30 is parked lol. 3-5€ here in germany
You could also flock the dash like the rally car guys do.
Wrap it in alcantara ..would look great and should cut down on the rattles..maybe it’ll also help with protection from the sun 👍👍👍
...or leather!
Francis Powell ..more Motorsport with alcantara 😁
@@syvee45 never seen a factory alcantara dash, whether Motorsport or not. Looks home brewed to me.

I’d rather no dash than that pos. Thank you for the insight.
Looks great man! Pretty expensive tho. If you do find a dash that’s like new it would be better to swap that bad boy on, keep it OEM ;).
replacement takes around 14hours and its a hard work. OEM is always OEM though!!!
Unfortunately, BMW stopped making them, so they're getting harder to find crack-free.
Well there goes another $200.
Right
