Dusty Springfield, You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, live if possible. She is wonderful.
Yes! At her best!
Love her! Another favorite I love from her is I Only Want To Be With You. Very upbeat :)
that is my fav also Stay Awhile the drummer on both of those was the late Bobby Graham
This lady was one of the greatest singer/songwriters of the 60's. Her songs have made other artist stars. That is how impactful she was. This song took on a new life with the 1997 blockbuster movie "My Best Friend's Wedding." It was sung in the opening scene in the movie. You can't go wrong going down the rabbit hole with Dusty Springfield. Awesome reaction as always.
Eh? She only wrote four published songs, two of which were co-written, and they were all consigned to a B-sides and album tracks. She didn't even write this one - it was composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Dionne Warwick and Dusty were the two best singers of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's songs. She did a great version of "Anyone Who Had A Heart", which was also done by Dionne. I had the great pleasure to see Dusty in I believe 1965 here in NYC. Dusty was a dynamic performer. She was also a champion of black music and inclusion in her audiences. She would frequently refuse to perform unless her audiences were not separated by race and had integrated seating. Listen to her doing "I Only Want To Be With You", "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "The Look Of Love", and "Son Of A Preacher Man".
They've recently reacted to Son of a preacher man
Dusty had such a soulful voice...Great song
I Only Want To Be With You is my favorite. You must listen to it. R.I.P. Dusty.
MINE TOO!!!
How lovely and gracious that she clapped for her trumpeter.
SHE HAS THE MOST SENSUAL , SULTRY VELVEY VOICE EVER. CAN YOU PLAY THE LOOK OF LOVE BY DUSTY.
Such a wonderful voice , I remember in the 60s enjoying Dusty' s singing so much , as i do now. The Merseybeats also had a hit with this song. I also love them singing I Think Of You, and Dusty singing I Only Want To Be With You, and Spooky.
She had a great, soulful voice, & her sparkling personality always showed in her music.
She started out with The Springfields- Tom her brother and Tim Field. their first song was Silver Threads and Golden Needles- came out in 1962. Great song
Love Dustyt so much! Thanks for this reaction.
I think you should listen to her version the look of love she did a beautiful job singing that song I think you will love but it also you tried listening to I only wants to be with you that is another classic hit of her Dusty Springfield had one of most purest soul singer she really loved respect and admired a lot of black soulful singers including aretha franklin who she knew personally and other black soulful singers. The woman had a lot of soul in her coming from the UK.
Great song. Great performance by Dusty. Sweet reaction.
Dusty had to sing songs like this as she was a gay woman in a long relationship, but as with many at the time of the last century had to hide it from the public and industry
I think even a gay person can sing about other kinds of relationships. Dusty was my favorite 60s female singer.
The video version with Dusty backed up by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas is great.
One of the greatest singers ever!!! Was a perfectionist was said she wanted her audience fans if you will to hear the best. What a class act!!
What a soothing voice.
Next listen to her signature song I only want to be with you !
And while we're on old, old school love advice, a song I've never seen a reaction to that would be worthwhile is Betty Everett's "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)." I bet you two will love it! ❤
Watch Dusty’s videos! The voice, the hair, her movement and hand gestures, the 60s look. Son of a Preacher Man is an awesome video. She had a tv show for two years on the BBC in London. There are tons of Dusty videos.
Great singer, great song, great reaction. Keep it up you two. Love your vibe. Keep doing you. Peace
She does an amazing version with Martha and the Vandellas!
I love Dusty's music and this song! And yes you won't get him thinking and wishing. You do need to be compatible with him! Do stuff for him, yes, reasonable stuff!
some of the same stuff he does for you, assuming he's not wishing and hoping, too.
I knew when I saw the title what the reaction would be!
HIM: Oh, yeah!
HER: Whaaaat?
If you want to hear the soul (and some risque lyrics) in Dusty, check out Son of a Preacher Man.
You will LOVE it!
This song is truly spectacular!
I had a date while on R&R in Sydney, Australia (Viet. - 1969) & saw Dusty Springfield live! She was awesome.
Good song! It was featured in the movie with Julia Roberts called “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” Actually, it was the opening scene/song in the movie.
Dusty gives great advice. I love this sweet song. Look up her life's story...very surprising and interesting. The girl was busy. Thank you for the memories.
Great reaction y'all!
I was 🤣at Mel's facial expression at the end there. Mel looking like she was trying her absolute best to hold back a snarky comment about wearing your hair just for him. She looks like she wants to say that she wears hair just for HER and no one else. And that she and Shawn do the things SHE likes to do. 😂
This was the absolute first 45 I ever bought & I rode 14 miles round trip on my bike to buy it
Geez got to tell you guys, that did wet my eyes, me being a grown man. The way that Dusty sings about holding and kissing and loving, and things I missed out on, or pushed away. Such a wonderful song.
You have done a couple of Pet Shop Boys reactions, but I didn’t see the one with Dusty singing with the group! It’s called “What Have Done to Deserve This?”. She made a comeback in the late 80’s with this big hit single! Check it out!
you need to check our Dusty singing with her brother the Sprinfields
If you like Dusty you must react to " I close my eyes and count to ten " my favourite track of hers ❤️
I LOVE that song ( I LOVE ALL her songs), but it makes me cry, as many of her hearbreak songs do,
You got the Orioles hat on... gotta love you guys... know you know your music 🎵🎵.. enjoying you guys...she was a great singer. Some more oldies.... Motown would be great!!!
I had to laugh out loud at the quote in the title of "She knows how to treat her man". Should be, "She knows how to treat her Woman" :) Love her music, just too bad she had to pretend to be something she wasn't because of the time she was singing this.
Thank you for mentioning that -25 years after her death it is SO important to the world to point that out-----SO enlightening for the new generation to learn
Dusty had to be talked into recording this song. She wasn't sure about it, but songwriter Burt Bacharach talked her into it and it became a #6 hit. Dionne Warwick was the first to record the song, but used it as the B-side to her single "This Empty Place".
Wonderful voice.
There will never be another Dusty Springfield never!!!
Hi guys. Please react to a beautiful Aussie lady whom was born in Boston. We adopted her lol.
Marcia Hines, I just don't know what to do with myself, 1976 video. Dusty covered it first, then Marcia. Marcia is only 22 in this video from 1976. You'll be blown away by her vocals and beauty!
Dusty Springfield is the best. Love her. She even played with JIMMY HENDRIX. He loved her too.
Dusty and Pet Shop Boys with What have I done to Deserve This??!
Dusty Springfield: Son of a Preacher Man. Please. ❤
They did it recently
Back when songs were wholesome.
One of the cute songs from the 60's.
I wasn't around yet but my parents were newlyweds when this song dropped.
You will love son of a preacher man. I can testify it works my sweetheart did that for me and we are still in love today and enjoying over 51 years now
Yes, play You Dont Have to Say you Love Me!!
Trust me, she's wasn't treating any man any way...but that's ok, just sayin'😉
😂
It's just a song 😉
She probably knew how to treat a woman since she was gay... You go Dusty!!
But if she were straight, she'd be kind to her man. People need that.
That video looks like the TV show Shindig from the 60's
Have you done Barbara Streisand Evergreen? Omg The Way We Were I just cried my eyes out. Please please
I know what you mean. Such beautiful songs
Imo, Evergreen is awesome. It's hard to take in, because of the way it's sung by her. Very strong, imo.
I was thinking your man was hoping you were going to take Dusty's advice and give him a little hug and squeeze, and maybe a little kiss ... take a hint, girl!! :D
Nobody could write those horn lines like Mr.Melody Burt Bacharach
Dusty speaking facts
You don't have to say you love me, I only wanna be with you, 2 other great songs by her
You should react to Bobbi Martin For The Love Of Him. It was her hit in 1970. I still love this song.
If you want to have a great relationship you have to pay attention to each other, respect what makes each person needs and work to make each other happy.
And it's easier than people seem to think.
@@keithbrown7685 A good rule when in a relationship, when you are out doing something on your own, ask yourself, do I want (my partner doing this?) if the answer is no, then what you are doing is wrong. Adjust yourself.
She was huge in the 60's!!
Love Dusty! Look for Jackie DeShannon's music, please! ❤
She was into ladies, but sadly at that time, she could not talk about that openly.
This song is from 1964. Remember when it came out.
Ya''ll need to react to dusty springfield's i just don't know what to do with myself
r. I. P. dusty but in real life she was all about her woman each to their own
Dusty was part of the British invasion but also considered blue eyed soul. Mel, remember this was the 1960's so yes, a little old school. Does anyone think she reminds you Adele?
Listen up ladies. Dusty's tellin' you what you needs to do.
Dusty came out as gay, so some woman is very lucky.
Was. She passed away in 1999 of breast cancer.
HAY Y'ALL YOU DID some three dog night and liked it. well this will blow your mind............ Eli's Coming (1975) - Three Dog Night............ they will take you to church and back again
That song came out in 1969. Where tf did you get 1975 from?
You guys have such open and warm faces... just sayin'
Dusty was gay! She was with Norma Tanega for a while, and with Madeline Bell ( both great singers) for a long time.
KD Laing too.
Mel...how you like me to do my hair Shawn? Shawn...how about blonde, straight, parted in the middle and shoulder length. Mel...done baby!!
She was the british aretha Franklin
Dusty Springfield is British.
No shit.
Barbary Allen Joan Baez you might like for old story songs. I found a new one for me by fiddlin Joe Carson called little old cabin in the lane and thought of it tonight while listened to a few of your vids.
Well I was wishin and a hopin then Covid came and I'm still single so....
Australia
Signature excessive hand motions👍
You"ll like Donna Fargo's music
I have a version of this which is a little x-rated, and goes "All you've gotta do is s___ him and f___ him" and so on and so forth. It gets me hit with a purse, or looks that scream "Will you never grow up???"
Sixty years ago.
FYI, Dusty is mother to the lead singer of "The Pet Shop Boys".
Do on to yours
Here’s more Dusty with Darryl Hall: I have no idea how to contact you directly, but here’s a recommendation for a DUET between Dusty Springfield and Darryl Hall: ua-cam.com/video/302Et9UD-VY/v-deo.html
Not sure I think too much of this song as a whole but the chorus part is catchy and I've heard it before in some commercial.. (the part that says something about 'hoping and praying....."
If anything, listen to it a few times. It'll grow on you fast!
Women, are you listening?
That's the way things were back then before the sexual revolutiona and summer of love in 1967. After that year, women became more independent and had to fight for equal rights, equal pay, equal everything. Even in the 70's, women could NOT be doctors, lawyers, President/Owner of a company. The ERA helped women go a long way. ERA = Equal Rights Amendment.
Before 1967, women obeyed their husbands. Women did what they boyfriends wanted, not what they wanted. They were just housewives and mothers. Women moved only from their parents house to their husband's. A women living alone in her own apt was VERY rare.
Dusty didn’t like men as a romantic interest.
Of course it all sounds a little antiquated now in its unbalanced approach to male/female relations, and I'm not sure how sound Dusty's advice would have been then or now, but it's still a fun song, very catchy...
Some of my favourite Dusty songs are:
I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten, and
I Only Want To Be With You
It's nott "antiquated". Your comment sucketh.
So we have a gay woman here singing about the importance of caring for your man. Just goes to show how much they've lost the plot these days.
Culture? Before women's lib?
Right before the woman's movement...
Nina Simone slapped her face in a public restaurant ....for sounding like she does .....
that title kills me because she’s a lesbian y’all 😂 She wasnt into dudes
words are a bit dated, not pc, but still great singing and a great tune
bs. They're not dated, except maybe to some radical feminazis.
