Another British female singer from this era is Petula Clark. I don’t know if you have ever reacted to her. Her biggest hit was called Downtown but she had several other hits.
"Wishin' and Hopin'" is a 1963 song written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach. It was first recorded by Dionne Warwick for her debut studio album Presenting Dionne Warwick. The better known version is by Dusty Springfield. Dusty Springfield (April 16, 1939 - March 2, 1999) was an English singer. Her real name was Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien. Luv Lulu most popular song "To Sir with Love" excellent song to react to and then have the Movie on Rob Squad Movie channel starring Sir Sidney Potier.
Jay & Amber, you'll love her "The Look Of Love" !!! edit -like today's song, its written by Hal David (lyrics) and Burt Bacharach (music). "Wishin' And Hopin' " first recorded by Dionne Warwick 1962. Burt loves workin' in those horns!
Jay and Amber you have to listen to my all-time favorite Dusty Springfield song, her duet with the Pet Shop Boys, “What Have I Done to Deserve This”. Dusty is in her prime!
Love Dusty's music. She had such a cool voice, I remember other songs she sang and its unforunate she was not appreciated more back then. Blessing to all. Your faithful follower. 🫶👍💜💯🎼
Another wonderful Burt Bacharach-Hal David song! They knew how to find the most stellar women to interpret their work! You should review her rendition of Carole King’s “Goin’ Back” which was the B Side of “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” (In the UK). After that, you should try Carole’s version.
Dusty's rendition of *"The Windmills of Your Mind"* is simply outstanding. 'Wishin & Hopin' was earlier in her career, before she went to record the LP 'Dusty In Memphis'. *(In November 1968, during the Memphis sessions, Springfield suggested to Wexler (one of the heads of Atlantic Records) that he should sign the newly formed UK band Led Zeppelin.)* So there's THAT! Matter of fact, I'm gonna listen to *"The Windmills of Your Mind"* right after this post is done. It's THAT good!
Great to see another Dusty song, one of the UK's best female vocalists. She was also responsible for introducing Motown music to the UK , which people went on to love. 'In the middle of nowhere' is another good one-Colin Ward
Check out Dusty's cover of the Van Morrison classic - Tupelo Honey as well as The Pet Shop Boys - What Have I Done To Deserve This on which Dusty sang.

I just love about anything Dusty. This is such a great song. It was one of my favorites to listen years ago, on the job, over the PA system. As you guys point out, it just has such a cool vibe. Such a legend.
A Memorable Song from an incredible period in music history, a cover that went to #6 on Billboard during Beatlemania and The British Invasion, such a time! :)
Damn, I always loved this song and remember it from my mom listening to the "oldies" station back in the 80's, but I always assumed it was a Motown song. I never knew it was Dusty!
It was wonderful, wonderful. But I love the country.Girl sung in this country country songs at works for my cazama hell Bailey.I hail bailey's like country girls sing in country song
Speaking’s of Brits, have you heard of Lulu? She did a great song called “To Sir, With Love” from the great movie “Blackboard Jungle” starring Sidney Poitier, one of the best black actors of all time. Lulu was in the movie too, and sang the song to Sidney at the end (I think it was at the end? Someone correct me if I’m wrong). Also, Lulu was married to Bee Gee twin Maurice (Morris) Gibb for a short time. Note: The movie is “To Sir, With Love”, not “Blackboard Jungle”, though Sidney co-starred in that movie.
Yes they have and they reacted to Sir with Love not to long after Sidney Poitier’s death. But the name of the movie is To Sir with Love from 1967. Blackboard Jungle is another film all together from the 1950’s.
@@elizabethfranco1284 … Thanks 😊! I’m always getting those mixed up, even though I should know the song is the title of the movie. Never used to do stuff like that when I was younger. Will correct my post.
Before going out solo in 1963, Dusty also did some great stuff with The Springfields (who included her brother Tom). Their songs usually had Dusty singing alone for a few bars, and it was obvious she would become a huge star in her own right before long. Their best-known records included Breakaway, Say I Won't Be There, Island Of Dreams, and their big US hit Silver Threads And Golden Needles.
I just discovered that Dusty Springfield & Daryl Hall, sang a duet song after the ending of the movie, "While You Were Sleeping". Her vocals are more expressive than her earlier songs. Though her earlier vocals fit the type of songs that she did. With Daryl Hall, her vocals are very strong & she shines.
This song is such an earworm that as recently as this century did I sing, to my darlin', a version that went: "All you've gotta do is s--- him and f--- him...and on and on." Thankfully met with a sense of humor. Still alive. Once in a mountain restaurant with my papa, a mini jukebox was at the edge of the table, and I played this song.
Nice! If one wanted to, one could interpret this as a sexist song, but it's really not. It's about being active, rather than passive. It encourages women to get up and do something and make it happen, rather than just waiting for it to happen. Let's face it: It really isn't that hard to win over a man. But you do have to put some effort in.
In the late 60's when I was in grade school, we would hear this song in the car everytime we went shopping with our Mom for new school clothes. This and "Downtown" by Petulia Clark.
This is the song I sing to my dogs when they come into the kitchen when I’m cooking. Because they are wishing & hoping & thinking & dreaming & praying that I’ll drop something
One of my favourite Dusty songs. The Merseybeats did an excellent version of this too. Reached No.13 in the UK in 1964. Dusty's version was a hit in the USA.
The 45 of this became the very first record I ever bought~ I rode my bike a long way to get it ~ even some of those early Beatles records could not compete
One of my favorite memories: 1969 - On R&R or leave from the Viet. War (took both in Sydney, Australia, 1 wk. each) took a local girl to a dinner theater where Dusty Springfield was the headliner. I had only 1 or 2 mos. left in my tour of duty then back to "The World". Short timer!

"I Only Want To Be With You" is my fav by Dusty.
Mine too. They reacted to that one already.
Mine as well! hope you had a great 4th.
yes please do the song with the Pet Shop Boys!
Yes definitely.
That's a great song but I really enjoy the song All I See Is You. She lets that beautiful voice soar.
My Lady Dusty would not sing to segregated audiences. #Class
She was !
Beatles would not either...most English acts would not. Ironic isn't it? segregated audiences however were a mornoic concept.
