This is the MOST UNDERSTANDABLE video I've seen of all of the hundreds that I have watched. I didn't have a clue how to get the square pieces of napkin onto a slanted pot. You are a lifesaver !!!!! Thank you.

How come no one taught me about this amazing product that is Mod Podge! And how come no one teaches you do deal with things like getting napkins onto slanted pots!! 🤣🤣🤣
Newbie here 👋🏻 I’ve been trying to cover pots and failing miserable but this tutorial has really taught me a lot. Can’t wait to give it another try. Thank you so much.
Thank you. This is super helpful. I have been avoiding cone surfaces - whole napkin combinations, but seeing how well you tackled it yourself inspires me to give this combination a try. Much appreciate.
Thankyou, good luck! You can always paint the background white and get a white napkin with a design on and cut around the bits you want and then stick them on. X
That's fabulous you described this step.by step with no bother at all. Your definitely an excellent tutor. Hope to try this out with my plant pots. Very nice indeed. Thanks again 👏👏👏💓👍
Followed this last night and I’m so happy with the outcome. Can’t see the join. Great tutorial, actually the best tutorial I’ve seen for decoupaging pots. Thank you for doing it.
Thankyou for your lovely comments, so glad it helped, I struggled so much when I began and couldn't find any helpful videos out there which is why I made this one! Happy creating!
Excellent video, I love how you prepare the edges with the water tear. I have never seen this done by anyone else and I really like the finished look it gives.
Thanks! It's much easier than just tearing it but you have to make sure you don't get too much water on your brush! It really makes the edges blend well :)
Thank you :) Yes, I found that if you avoid strong sunlight they fare better, three years on and mine are starting to look a bit sad but they’re still usable. I think if you could put them in a shed for the winter and use in the spring, summer and autumn they’d probably last better. Several coats of varnish also helps!
Nice work but I have a couple of suggestions for you. To get a more natural look, try tearing away most of the white part of the napkin and the image will look more like it's been painted on. Also, water down your mod podge a bit. It will make it go further and is much easier to apply. Ordinary pva or school glue can also be used, also watered down.
I've done a plastic box and it worked ok, it might be worth sanding the surface slightly before painting so that the paint can stick to it better as it might flake off as it has a bit on my box here and there.
I hope you dont mind if I make a suggestion...instead of using a sandwhich bag, try using cling film, its much softer and gets out a lot more creases....
Also relatively new to decoupaging. Came looking for help on how to decoupage a glass cylinder lampshade. Love your tip on using wet paint brush to avoid straight line edges. Would like to know if you've done a glass shade?
Thanks! I’ve done a video on decoupaging a glass jar, so f you have a look through my videos you’ll find it. Thanks for watching, it’s all trial and error and finding what works best for you.
Hello…Great, understandable tutorial..how many ply’s should your napkins have when you go to purchase? I am a Texas girl..trying to find sturdy, durable, correct ply amount, pretty designed napkins in my area..😝
Hiya, emulsion paint, which is what you'd use to paint an internal wall in your house. Or you can use a spray paint, you'll need a few coats. Sorry about the naff sound!
It just takes practice, try and get the centre of the pic smoothed out first then make your way to the edges gradually, you might find that the wrinkles vanish when it’s dry anyway. Good luck!
Hiya, I have sanded mine after mod podge and varnish, but only if there is a prominent crease, I know some people do sand, but I've always been scared of spoiling it after so much work!
I'm sorry there is nothing i can do about the volume as it was recorded on my phone and I couldn't put it any closer to me as you wouldn't be able to see what I was doing. I'm not very good at tech, can only do the basics!
Yes, I haven't used it myself but I'm sure it'll be fine. As long as you have covered the pot in a colour before you put the napkins on, I'm sure it'll be fine.
@@ferrets4 thank you! 😊👍 I got the Mod Podge spray and I really liked it, but it has a super strong smell. You definitely want to spray outside. You'll pass out from the fumes lol!! 😂
Tesco! But they were selling them off not long ago so you might not get any now. Shame because they're so versatile and you don't have to worry about the pattern matching!
I tried and failed miserably. I’m not giving up. My napkins kept ripping and wouldn’t smooth out and had little air pockets that won’t smooth out. If I continued trying it would rip. Mine is a layered mess that’s not smoothed out. Could it be the napkins?
I do find that some napkins are better than others. Wash it off and have another go, don't give up, it'll be worth it in the end. Maybe start with a smaller pot too. If you've got air pockets then I could mean that you've missed applying glue to those bits so make sure you've covered the surface that you're applying your napkin too. Good luck
Not a lot I can do about that, I recorded it on my mobile phone, I just wanted to help anybody who was struggling with the craft as when I started doing it I couldn't find any videos to help me.
I'm very sorry, I don't know how to make one with better sound, I'm not very technical. I recorded it on my mobile phone. I don't mumble normally, but thanks for the feedback

Thanks, I have done that on some metal plant pots, it works well if you cut close to the design, but with these pots I wanted to use the whole napkin.

What a great understandable video thumps up for sure and lots of compliments ❤. But will last good in the sun outside?
If it is in constant direct sun it’ll probably fade over time, use a good quality sealer like polyvine and it will protect it. Thanks!

My napkin are 3 ply and I get them from the supermarket! I've also used ebay
Don't worry if your napkin wrinkles when you apply mod podge on top, just gently smooth them out. It should dry ok
These are beautiful. Where do you buy your napkins? Love the one with all the wild flowers.
Thankyou, I got them from Tesco x
Great video...thanks for sharing.

Hi, looks great, what kind of paint did you use first? I couldn’t quite hear . Thanks!
Hiya, emulsion paint, which is what you'd use to paint an internal wall in your house. Or you can use a spray paint, you'll need a few coats. Sorry about the naff sound!
For big air bubbles I pop them with a needle
Your napkins are so pretty, any special place to buy from ?
I got mine from Supermarkets and garden centres, when I wanted something specific I found what I needed on EBay.
Do you have to prime the pot before if I painted with acrylic paint. This is a very good tutorial, an no faffing and waffling 😃😃
Haha! Thankyou! I think I would as it's quite porous, it'd give you a base for your acrylics then.
Although, I've just remembered that I did a small pot with acrylics without a base and it turned out ok, so maybe you could experiment
I might try both ways and see how they come out! Thank you 😄
@@rachelbunn2366 let me know how you get on, but I'm sure the acrylic straight on worked ok, although it needed a few coats! Good luck

I've seen lots of posts about sanding. Do you sand your pots. They are lovely
Hiya, I have sanded mine after mod podge and varnish, but only if there is a prominent crease, I know some people do sand, but I've always been scared of spoiling it after so much work!

please tell me where you purchased your napkins? I absolutely love the flowers and i love bumble bees
Hiya, the flowers were from Tesco, they're nice aren't they. Sainsbury's have got a couple of lovely bee designs.
Will this mod pod get hold the water from plants
No, you need to seal the pot inside and out with several layers of waterproof varnish or sealer, don't forget the bottom!
Are you using acrylic paint?
I used emulsion (UK) elsewhere it’s what you would use to paint your walls with. I’ve used acrylic in indoor items but not tried it die outside things
Hello..can I use guesso for the first coat?
Yes, I haven't used it myself but I'm sure it'll be fine. As long as you have covered the pot in a colour before you put the napkins on, I'm sure it'll be fine.
Emulsion paint = Latex paint in America
Thankyou for sharing!
Has anyone here used Mod Podge sealant spray? I just started decoupaging and ordered it from Walmart. It arrives tomorrow. TIA
I haven't tried mod podge spray but I've used a Rustoleum and a Plastikote sealer that I found very good

These were from Tesco, but I just keep my eyes open when I'm out and about! There are quite a lot on eBay too
What is emulsion paint? I’ve never heard of it.
It's the paint that you use to paint internal walls, must be a British word!!
It is likely also called acrylic paint. A water based paint.
Have you ever had a problem with the ink in the napkin colors running and going into the other colors?
Hiya, no, I've used lots of different napkins and I've never had that happen. Not sure what you could do about that, sorry
@@ferrets4 thanks

perhaps piercing the air bubbles with a pin or edge of razor blade will allow you to press the air out
What type of paint is used
In the UK it is called emulsion paint (it's what we use to paint our walls inside), but you can also use chalk paint or any spray paint
Thank goodness we don’t get all the hi guys stuff followed by the author’s life story here.
