    This is the MOST UNDERSTANDABLE video I've seen of all of the hundreds that I have watched. I didn't have a clue how to get the square pieces of napkin onto a slanted pot. You are a lifesaver !!!!! Thank you.

      I know right! Seriously I feel like I wasted my money in art college when I should have just given it to smart amazing strangers on UA-cam like this lady! I would have learned more! How come no one taught me about this amazing product that is Mod Podge! And how come no one teaches you do deal with things like getting napkins onto slanted pots!! 🤣🤣🤣

      Thankyou, good luck! You can always paint the background white and get a white napkin with a design on and cut around the bits you want and then stick them on. X

    Excellent video, I love how you prepare the edges with the water tear. I have never seen this done by anyone else and I really like the finished look it gives.

      Thanks! It's much easier than just tearing it but you have to make sure you don't get too much water on your brush! It really makes the edges blend well :)

    Great tutorial. Once finished can you use the pots outside? If yes, how do they fair in the 🇬🇧

      Thank you :) Yes, I found that if you avoid strong sunlight they fare better, three years on and mine are starting to look a bit sad but they’re still usable. I think if you could put them in a shed for the winter and use in the spring, summer and autumn they’d probably last better. Several coats of varnish also helps!

    Nice work but I have a couple of suggestions for you. To get a more natural look, try tearing away most of the white part of the napkin and the image will look more like it's been painted on. Also, water down your mod podge a bit. It will make it go further and is much easier to apply. Ordinary pva or school glue can also be used, also watered down.

      Thanks, I have done that on some metal plant pots, it works well if you cut close to the design, but with these pots I wanted to use the whole napkin.

      I've done a plastic box and it worked ok, it might be worth sanding the surface slightly before painting so that the paint can stick to it better as it might flake off as it has a bit on my box here and there.

    I hope you dont mind if I make a suggestion...instead of using a sandwhich bag, try using cling film, its much softer and gets out a lot more creases....

      If it is in constant direct sun it’ll probably fade over time, use a good quality sealer like polyvine and it will protect it. Thanks!

    Also relatively new to decoupaging.
    Came looking for help on how to decoupage a glass cylinder lampshade. Love your tip on using wet paint brush to avoid straight line edges.
    Would like to know if you've done a glass shade?

    Hello…Great, understandable tutorial..how many ply’s should your napkins have when you go to purchase? I am a Texas girl..trying to find sturdy, durable, correct ply amount, pretty designed napkins in my area..😝

    Don't worry if your napkin wrinkles when you apply mod podge on top, just gently smooth them out. It should dry ok

      Hiya, emulsion paint, which is what you'd use to paint an internal wall in your house. Or you can use a spray paint, you'll need a few coats. Sorry about the naff sound!

      I got mine from Supermarkets and garden centres, when I wanted something specific I found what I needed on EBay.

    Do you have to prime the pot before if I painted with acrylic paint. This is a very good tutorial, an no faffing and waffling 😃😃

      It just takes practice, try and get the centre of the pic smoothed out first then make your way to the edges gradually, you might find that the wrinkles vanish when it’s dry anyway. Good luck!

      Hiya, I have sanded mine after mod podge and varnish, but only if there is a prominent crease, I know some people do sand, but I've always been scared of spoiling it after so much work!

      I'm sorry there is nothing i can do about the volume as it was recorded on my phone and I couldn't put it any closer to me as you wouldn't be able to see what I was doing. I'm not very good at tech, can only do the basics!

      No, you need to seal the pot inside and out with several layers of waterproof varnish or sealer, don't forget the bottom!

      I used emulsion (UK) elsewhere it’s what you would use to paint your walls with. I’ve used acrylic in indoor items but not tried it die outside things

      Yes, I haven't used it myself but I'm sure it'll be fine. As long as you have covered the pot in a colour before you put the napkins on, I'm sure it'll be fine.

      I haven't tried mod podge spray but I've used a Rustoleum and a Plastikote sealer that I found very good

      It's the paint that you use to paint internal walls, must be a British word!!

      It is likely also called acrylic paint. A water based paint.

      Tesco! But they were selling them off not long ago so you might not get any now. Shame because they're so versatile and you don't have to worry about the pattern matching!

    I tried and failed miserably. I’m not giving up. My napkins kept ripping and wouldn’t smooth out and had little air pockets that won’t smooth out. If I continued trying it would rip. Mine is a layered mess that’s not smoothed out. Could it be the napkins?

      I do find that some napkins are better than others. Wash it off and have another go, don't give up, it'll be worth it in the end. Maybe start with a smaller pot too. If you've got air pockets then I could mean that you've missed applying glue to those bits so make sure you've covered the surface that you're applying your napkin too. Good luck

      perhaps piercing the air bubbles with a pin or edge of razor blade will allow you to press the air out

      In the UK it is called emulsion paint (it's what we use to paint our walls inside), but you can also use chalk paint or any spray paint
