Great review 👍, I'm not a fan of that particular design although they have homaged the much nicer earlier versions rather than the hideous wide lug version. Good to see someone has finally made decent patina lume!
Hi Albert. Throat feels fine and doesn't hurt, it just doesn't work properly all the time and it's tiring to talk ...can you imagine...me not talking haha!
It doesn't translate in images, in fact even when I first had it in hand I wasn't sure, but I put it aside and looked again and I got it. Great job Baltany.
Another great review John. Thank you. Just out of interest, what sort of timekeeping tolerances is the watch running to and are they regulated prior to dispatch??. I am extremely close to pulling that trigger 👍
Hi John. Thank you so much for covering watches of realistic value. So many YT channels seem to think that entry level is “only” £900!!! 🤨. You always include information on the specific mechanism of each watch…but as a newbie it gets me confused. Would you consider creating a video to explain why some mechanisms are better than others, and what to look out for? Thanks!
Hi there. As a general rule most Chinese brands will provide a true Seiko NH35 with date or NH38 without date movement. Better brands may offer the PT5000 which is a 4hz movement (smoother sweep) . They have gotten better and are very accurate if properly assembled and lubed. Other movements are Sea-Gull for example which are also great movements and very nice to look at. Merkur do a traditional movement which is not so robust and I have had a bad experience with their watches and their customer service which is shocking. I will have to do a vid on my experience over this past year on the platform. Think that would be a help to everyone :)
Thanks for the quick response. I got my first mechanical watch 2 years ago (a green Seiko 5 Flieger with a 4R36 calibre), and would never go back to a quartz. But have a lot to learn about mechanisms, lol. But that’s the fun :)
Welcome to the hobby. I have been fascinated since I was a kid. I remember all the brilliant case styles in the seventies and getting my first watch...an automatic Timex Skin Diver in black with orange go faster stripes on the dial and a twisty bezel. My schoolmates were so jealous. :). I take it we were born in the same year 1967?
This is a lovely watch. It has an incredible vintage look to it. Love the lume and the deep rehaut - it gived it a deep dive look to it. If i didnt have the CW vintage diver already, I'd be snapping this one up. And thats a great Mediterranean blue color! Jist love this watch.
Thanks for the in depth honest review. I experienced the same issue with the narrow space between the spring bar and case as well on the ‘type A’ chrono, so looks like it’s across a few of their watches. Definitely not a deal breaker though :)
I much prefer retro homages like this to the copy and paste jobs of in production modern watches. That lume too is excellent. Often excuses are made when a watch has faux patina. Good work by Baltany.
As always, Baltany did a great job. One thing I don't like is the rehaut too big for my taste. Except that, it's excellent. The crystal is once again wonderful ! I didn't know about your vocal cord injury. I hope you are all right. Thanks for the great review, John.
I have been a rock singer since I was 16. 21 years ago I had the flu and severe coughing blew out one side. Took me years to retrain albeit with a slightly diminished range. Talking has always been tiring ever since :)
Love your review, John. Baltany made efforts few Chinese makers do (aside from maybe Tiger Concept) to execute detail well. The excellent fauxtina lume and pricier/finicky NH38 and signature excellent crystal. Could the rehaut and overall thickness be reduced a little? The blue dial/bezel, subtle fauxtina and branding are lovely!
Okay. Sorry to hear that. It's really no luck. I suppose you have stopped singing after that. I like rock too. I went to see Metallica in Paris in 1999. And ACDC a few years later. The good old days 😊 Have a nice weekend. And sorry for the late reply (and eventually my English 😅)
Honestly until you brought it up I saw those polished sides and thought those were going to end up becoming scratch and smudge magnets but I realize you're right they do match the era of the watch quite well and that's more what Baltany is about giving us a chance to experience more and more retro designs.
I really don't like polished sides but they work on this piece. Can you imagine how dull it would be if it were brushed? Sometimes we have to put our misconceptions aside ;)
John, when you've reviewed the IXDAO P39 homage, let us know if you prefer wearing the vintage Baltany or your Seestern/IXDAO P39. Though the watches are the same size and style, is the wearing experience different?
Hi Bensy. They are totally different to wear. The Baltany has more presence and feels like a modern dive watch. When it comes to the difference between the p39 watches...they all have their own feel too. Unless you wear them it is hard to translate. Reviewing the IX_DAO as we speak :)
@@johnswatchjoint this is the kind of stuff that's really interesting, and only comes from people passionate and familiar with each of these options. Thanks!
Hi John this is definitely one of their nicest watches. They also do a field watch in blue which looks like it would give Hamilton a run for it’s money.
John just unbooxed(zipped) both the blue and black on steel bracelets. Did also get two watch gecko retro bracelets to change...John they are beautiful, beautiful (so good I said it twice...😊
Hi Jon, they do. It's exactly the same as was on their version of the Discoverer ( the steel brown one) I reviewed. It's the one with polished centre links. They were out of stock everywhere when I wanted to order!

Yep. It shines like a 🔦
Hands down my favorite Sub Homage. I like how they put their own flavoring on it. Hope your throat feels better mate. Great review as always!
Hi Albert. Throat feels fine and doesn't hurt, it just doesn't work properly all the time and it's tiring to talk ...can you imagine...me not talking haha!
Love the lume and handset. The blue one is calling to me. I recently got the bubbleback and am really impressed.
I'm sure you'll love it :)
Loving the watch stand john, great review cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great review as always, John! Glad to know you're liking this as much as I did. It's really a breath of fresh air in the sub homage category.

I am extremely close to pulling that trigger 👍
Baltany do regulate their watches so they are well within the spec of an NH38.
Grate review and a lovely looking watch and looks well on the various different straps strongly considering this watch. 👍

Still a cracker ;)
That's very nice bezel on that watch. I also really like that wooden display stand.

'Tis a good 'un!
Hey loved the review. There are two sites. Baltany and baltany watches. Which one is legit. Interested in buing one.
The link is in the description ;)
@@johnswatchjoint is this also for belgium?

Very nice watch mate. Love the aluminium bezel insert and the crystal. Just not crazy about that odd minute hand.
Yeah...it took me a while to get it but it just works ;)

Yeah I have been trying to get Baltany UK to send me one but still no luck :/

Well done buddy ;)
Try using a pair of curved spring bars. They will help with nato straps but may not work with the thicker leather straps.
Yeah it's a shame they didn't think of it as Dan Henry did with their skindiver :)
Woo hoo! 🎉 First comment. Thank you!
I wish they supplied it with a bracelet, great Watch on the whole.

Will Do@@johnswatchjoint
600ft=200m?! , Baltany needs to correct this in the next revision
Ah…the nicked watchstraps at the lugs, Baltany even got the telltale fat springbars right.
It should have been made 10.8 mm instead of 13.8 mm.
Unfortunately an automatic movement in this price range is not thin enough to accomplish that :)
