  • In this video we will be talking about 6 ways to keep your calm from the wisdom of Seneca. Seneca is renowned for his teachings on stoicism, and one of his most popular works is "Letters from a Stoic", a collection of letters that he wrote to his friend Lucilius.
So here are 6 ways to keep your calm from the wisdom of Seneca -
    01. Keep your impulses in check
    02. Practice forgiveness
    03. Focus on your highest aspirations
    04. Accept your fate
    05. Ignore other people’s opinions
    06. Review your day
I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope you find these insights from Seneca very helpful in keeping your calm.
Seneca was a prominent Roman philosopher and playwright who published several essential works about Stoicism. He counselled Emperor Nero, and thought that anger is a temporary madness, and that even when justified, we should never act on the basis of it because it affects our sanity. Seneca wrote a book specifically on anger called “De Ira” which defines and explains anger within the context of Stoic philosophy, and offers advice on how to prevent and control anger and that’s why in this video we are going to look at 10 ways we can control our anger from the teachings of Seneca.
Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

I used to think I wasn't normal by not reacting and kept the emotion to myself whenever something or someone upset me so I started to react so I can be normal. I became too emotional and it caused my relationship with my gf. Now through stoic philosophy, I'm re-learning how to keep my emotions together like how I did back then.

It’s ok to express how you feel and to have feelings because at the end of the day you are a human being. Stoicism helps for not letting negative emotions take control of you.

Its about not letting it spill out to everyone and certainly not about repressing it. It's about silently acknowledging it, accepting it and yourself and then letting go. We mostly jump to conclusions about events and spin them in our heads because we don't have the full information about the situation or we are fighting back against something that will happen anyway.

Happened to me as well. I had a family member I was looking up to and working for when younger, and didn’t want to see his failures. One day he was somehow angry with my calmness and said something like “why don’t you react? Nothing matters to you?” Or something. I didn’t know he was trying to manipulate me in general and when I found out it was a bit late. I already got anxiety disorders, ptsd, and trust issues from his betrayal. I managed to change my life since then, but still fighting against high blood pressure and sleep disorders..

I was told at 53, from out of the blue, that I had a terminal illness and to put my affairs in order. I was told they might be able to prolong my life, but didn't know for how long. Try applying Amor Fati to that with a sense of calm. I have no family support, but I'm told by my friends, that I deal with this very well, but controlling that fear of the future is not possible for me. And comments like "we're all going to die someday" are hurtful because they are dismissive and lack compassion. I still find moments of happiness almost daily even though I'm in physical pain. But it is a ceaseless challenge and it's mentally exhausting.

Indeed, forgiveness is a long process, but when you take the decision to forgive, you reward yourself with inner peace. People do not deserve your forgiveness because they always think that you deserved what they did to you. In fact, you need to forgive and let go to gain your inner peace.
