  • In this video we will be talking about The 10 Stoic Life Lessons from the Stoic master, Seneca. Seneca was a prominent Roman philosopher who published several essential works about Stoicism. His widely popular collection of writings, Letters from a Stoic, contains his view of what the good life is and how to attain it.
So here are 10 important lessons that we can learn from Seneca.
    01. Exercise your mind daily
    02. Heal Yourself
    03. When Hungry Eat, When Tired Sleep
    04. Seek your own Applause
    05. Learn the art of contentment
    06. Live for others
    07. Boldly face the struggles of life
    08. Find an anchor, be an anchor
    09. Don’t just live long, live wide
    10. Create your own philosophy
Hope you enjoyed this video and find these insights helpful.
Seneca was a stoic philosopher and rhetorician. He counselled Emperor Nero, and is often credited with rendering Stoicism more accessible to a larger audience. Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

If only more people would learn this and give it a try. Or at least a few of the thoughts. Only way society gets to where we want it to be is to have everyone decide to try. Just do your best. What more could anyone have or want to provide and receive?

@levner brown Yes, really important - training perception to avoid good and bad. If you are trying to help someone and they reply negatively, instead of succumbing to their trap - they are actually directing you towards new virtues, such as patience or understanding. Or, the death of someone close to you, a chance to show fortitude.

Learning about Seneca and Diogenes and other greats made me question whether religion was created by someone to cleverly bring order and discipline of thought to a barbaric world. It’s fascinating that the Egyptian gods are so similar to the powers and lessons of Christianity and Islam, and Hinduism. Doesn’t seem like coincidence that they’re all in the same trading regions historically. Then go to China and the Asian sphere and it’s completely different set of Gods that appeared.

*1) Exercise your mind daily:* *Self improvement* and *finding happiness* are among the main aims. We should realize are own flaws. *Learn a new skill, take a new class, read a self-improvement books.*
*2) Heal yourself: Fearing the and regretting the past* are the two biggest causes of suffering. Whatever happens to you, you would still have strength to survive.
*3) When hungry eat, when tired sleep:* When you eat just eat and don't think about anything else. Live in the present and don't think about the future.
*4) Seek your own applause:* Don't seek approval of others. Don't be slave of others.
*5) Learn the art of contentment:* Seeking a luxurious life cause anxiety.
*6) Live for others:* Purpose of life is to empower others, especially poor people. Be kind and helpful.
*7) Boldly face the struggles of life:* Take the difficulties of life as lessons in your journey towards greatness.
*8) Find an anchor, be an anchor:* Men learn as they teach. Choose a role model to look up to. Also help others.
*9) Don't just live long, live wide:* Most of the time we are not actually living life but simply existing. Being greedy for power, seeking fame, seeking a lot of money leads to life seeming to pass by quickly. Use you time carefully, *study philosophy, being in control of yourself, working towards goals that are important to you, and not putting the enjoyment of life for the future. **
*10) Create your own philosophy:* Just because most people do something doesn't mean it's worth imitating.

The "Living in the present moment" mindset reminds me more of Eastern thought, particularly Southern Chan School of Zen Buddhism (Huineng). Didn't realize Seneca preached it 600 years prior.
I've read most philosophical disciplines from virtue ethics, to epistemology, to phenomenology, the unmentionable Existentialists from France (Sartre arguably gets a pass), and everything in-between, but for some reason Stoicism eluded me - as did an in-depth analysis of Epicureanism, but in hindsight, I shouldn't have slept on them

I applaud this channel for bringing teachings to a wider audience and for the lessons in this video in particular. I would criticise the use of images at points here. Sometimes the images act more as a distraction from the lesson than help you to learn it. For example, that slide where there is the lightning bolt speech bubbles are there and are later filled up with lightbulbs. Sometimes, consider that if a lesson is hard to illustrate with a graphic then perhaps it's best not illustrated at all. If I were to rewatch this, I think I'd prefer to shut my eyes. The other thing I would say is about the voice. When a voice is delivered with a slightly pressured delivery the whole time, it means that, actually, *nothing* is emphasised: you're giving *everything* the same weight. The result is a bit hard on the ears. I feel it would be better if the voice was calmer and then had pressure on key words, not also on the words inbetween.

      Agreed
Proper Emphasis on key points would smooth out the tempo.
Pitch, Pace, and Power ( Modulation) would lend to teaching storytelling style vs a salesman's style, or bullet points Presentation.
I actually listened to +50% without watching the video.
I paused this occasionally to read the written graphics, if I miss a point.
Ex, I continued to misunderstand *Anchor* as _Anger_ , which of course didn't make sense to the contextual point, and only understood what the Speaker was saying when I rewound the video and saw the written word.

The purpose of life is not to help others. Taking advice is a dangerous thing, but giving advice is even more dangerous. Every soul incarnates in this lifetime to experience things which are imposible to experience without physical body. It's not anyone's business to ruin the lessons which another soul came on earth to experience. It's only acceptable to help/advice others when they ask for it.

I’m better off being a nihilist to be honest. It’s much deeper than any other philosophy since you think really deep about things that things have no meaning whatsoever and you end up being happy since no one and nothing matters in reality at the end, so you don’t even bother on doing many things. There’s no such thing as good or evil. Everything is perspective. Wether I’m right or wrong, it doesn’t really matter anyway.
