I’ve always felt that Halloween could have been a catalyst for a successful solo career for Rick…it’s a great track…and the Over and Out album in my opinion was better than anything Quo had released since Under The Influence…it’s all hindsight now….but the reality is and was….Quo without Rick was just a tribute band!
It also makes me wonder why 'Helloween' was never on any 'normal' Quo album plus my other 2 favorite Quo tracks: 'Heartburn' and 'Tiltin' at the mill'... Anyhow, there are now on collections and deluxe editions so they are available for everyone...
bought the single and 12" of who gets the love, i really like that track, but flip it over and wow halloween is so good, but i find that during this period that there are a lot of b sides that would have made both them albums much better, but this is the period of quo i grew up on and will always love them, great to find your channel im a massive quo nut cheers
I'm gonna say something crazy. This song MIGHT have Rick's best studio vocals. The sheer POWER in those high notes in the chorus is just.. wow. Mind blowing. He had such a good and recognizable voice. RIP Rick!
Vocals are so good. The riff is insanely good. I’m new to the Quo but can just tell that Rick Parfitt was an absolute balls out rock and roller and would guess he rocked 25/7
don't have any of the deluxe reissue albums but i remember the post-'86 b-sides! favourite is 'late last night' but also 'heartburn', 'long legged girls'. strangely, the '84 MK Medley was on the 12" of Red Sky
Rick Parfitt penned some great songs which flew under the radar. Possibly due to band/record company politics? (where the powers that be decided that any commercial releases had to feature Rossi as the lead singer)
Halloween is a cracking tune that (with proper marketing and a radio edit) really should have been a hit. Whoever did the lead guitar work played some blinding stuff on there - I believe it may have been Pip Williams but not 100% sure. I wonder as well whether Rick had the theme from "Ghostbusters" in mind when he wrote it as I can hear some vague similarities particularly with the chord progression...
Was it a Rick Parfitt song, or did Rick just sing and play rhythm guitar on a song written by Pip Williams who also played lead guitar on it for Rick's 'Recorded Delivery' album. It could never have been a Quo record as Francis never played on it. Whatever happened in the past, it is still an excellent song rehashed for the Over and Out album.
Really interesting video. Thanks for posting. In the Army is a great album, have recently bought it on vinyl and been getting into it. Will check out the Halloween track off UA-cam 👍🏻 I’ve just listened to Halloween in car ok the way to London today (was on Ain’t Complaining deluxe), wow, what a rocker, my daughter was in the car with me and when the beat kicked in over the riff we were both rockin, what a song !! 🙌🏻
Yesterday i subscribe to youre channel, its great to see all youre videos!!!!!.My favorite album is If you cant stand the heat. Thanks for sharing this.Greetings from the Netherlands.
I REALLY like the In The Army Now single b-sides, mostly taken from Rick's solo album. In fact, you get a better album using the singles plus the b-sides than the original album (track list below). I'd love to see Recorded Delivery updated and released - use the original vocals and Rick's guitar and re-record the rest in a rockier style. In fact, using AI to get Rick's vocal, myself and my band did just that for I Miss My Baby - one of the tracks from Recorded Delivery which wasn't a b-side (but which I love as a song!) Here's a link just to show what could be done: ua-cam.com/video/hPwA_NDD4Fg/v-deo.html Track list for a (better) alternative In The Army Now: 01 Rollin' Home 02 Lonely 03 Keep Me Guessing 04 Red Sky 05 Don't Give It Up 06 In The Army Now (military mix for the longer drum fill!) 07 Heartburn 08 Late Lst Night 09 Dreamin' (Wet Mix) 10 Long Legged Girls 11 Rock'n'Roll Floorboards 12 Overdose (from the original album)
Hi Jamie it's not a bad song is it as you say if the record company was up for it, it could have been a monster hit. But sometimes record companies have different ideas 💡, don't they?? Wether or not it would have been at hit, we will never know now ?? But it's a great song very atmospheric and earie fe to it . Ideal for Halloween 🎃 lol 😆 🤣 😂 😄. Imagine if you will that Rick haxnt passed away in December 2016 he was sussoped to do a tour with that Over And Out Album plus a book and a tv one off special like an audience with . Like ITV have do e in the past with Dame Edna Everidge, Billy Connolly and Kylie Manogue.
Since Rick Jr. helped to put Over And Out together, he should try to lift his Dad’s vocals and guitar off that track and re-record it with a little help from his Dads friends just like he did with other tracks from Over And Out, infact he should have done that when putting that album together.
Not sure it would have worked if he'd re-recorded it later in life. His rock & roll lifestyle had taken its toll, he had 4 heart attacks (the first in his late 40's) and his vocal powers - at least over the last 10-15 years of his life - were nowhere near what they had been.
Lonesome Road is more to my liking compared to Halloween. ua-cam.com/video/prIo7XEl0e0/v-deo.html Halloween makes me cringe at certain parts of the song.

Got Pip Williams written all over it! He is Midas in reverse.
Yeah I bought Who gets the love. Halloween was a much better song, loved it

'End Of The Line', would be a contender for most powerful vocals from Parfitt.
Coming and going and Don't drive my car, Rick at his best.

Just remembered 'don't give it up' too!

Not a A side single, the record company was right.

Halloween makes me cringe at certain parts of the song.
The joke was The Quo are doing their annual Goodbye tour
Here's another Parfitt song that is far better than Halloween.
Everbody Knows How to Fly.

Pretty sure that's a John David song.
