I loved the album when it came out, listened to it alot for 2-3 years. Then I got to a point where I felt I needed a rest from it. I kept resting it until about a month ago. I have to say my feelings are mixed now. Some of the songs are really great in my opinion (my favorites right now are: Waiting for a woman, Cut me some slack and I wanna run away with you) but despite the feeling that no song is bad or even less than good, as an ALBUM it isn't one of their strongest in my opinion. I have similar feelings and experiences with Rick's solo album; first I loved it, then let it rest, now a bit disappointing sort of. But, Francis's solo albums continue to grow and grow for me and I love them, especially "We talk too much". Listened to it the other day and I cracked up smiling and singing along to every song. I really really hope Rossi will make a new album in some way or another, he is too good to just not be bothered with new music... Cheers! :)
I listened to it again fairly recently, and my opinion hasn't really changed since it came out... I think it's a decent Quo album and I like it, but I don't agree with some of the comments I saw around the time of its release stating that it was the best thing they'd done since Blue For You. Personally, I think Heavy Traffic, Fourth Chord and Quid Pro Quo all blow it out of the water in terms of songwriting, musicianship and production quality. I think it's most comparable to The Party Ain't Over Yet. Some really good tracks on there, but others feel a bit under-developed.
@@michaelkarlsson5966 I was studying music production in college at the time of the album's release and I actually researched it for an essay. Apparently the drums were recorded entirely with heavily gated close mics and no overheads, which is quite unusual for a rock album... I can only assume the drum room in Francis' home studio has some odd acoustics, so they tried to isolate the kit and minimise room sound as much as possible, making it sound a bit clinical.
I am not a massive QUO fan, but , Back bone is one of the most enjoyable albums i have heard in a long time. It is a great album .

Its great
Rossi album!!!!!!!
The production is a bit flat, sounds thin. But there are loads of great tunes on it so I still like it.
I agree about the production. It's kind of minimalistic in a way. Worst of all is the drum sound to me. Sounds flat and dull, like a drum machine :(

nothing after just supossin stands up apart from under the influence and heavy traffic
Ovv
Don't like the production as it's too soft and like any album only has a few stand out tracks
Francis Rossi and Status quo, Rossi soldi nothing as.a solo artist so stick it' out under the Quo banner .
