Besides my comparison to Minit, the only game I can even remotely compare this to is A Monster's Expedition - one of my favorite games of all time. I will be following this game with great interest!

My body is ready
Yes. This game seems unique and fun!
Could you play a game that isn't a puzzle or strategy game? It'll be interesting to see you play it. Maybe terraria?
Yoda
Tyler realises that he has a permanent key over and over, for 32 minutes.
That took me way to long to understand XD
I feel like the perma key should have a more obvious indicator that it is permanent like an infinity symbol below it like the other keys and items.
@@Wow-Internet-User the perma key had a tutorial. In the room you get it there are two things to unlock, Tyler just bypassed that by resetting the room instead.
I loved the pace of this game. Just enough to think about that it’s still a good puzzle, but no major hang ups and the overall design seems very forgiving if you skip, can’t solve, or don’t find a puzzle.
i can imagine later puzzles will get pretty hellish though using more and more mechanics, just like a monsters expedition, but it definitely looks interesting and fun, the estimated release date seems to imply this game is gonna be quite a journey
Demos sure are becoming more and more complex. If they keep moving in this direction we might see a day where demos are full fledged games and the actual games are 5 times as big
Reminds me of the "ads" for tales of nebezem: four one hour long games on kongregate. Sad thing was that the actual game wasn't that long (6 hours ish iirc)
PT is one of the best horror games and it's only a playable teaser.
Hi, I'm the developer of the game. The reason I chose to release such a large demo is that I felt there is so much noise in the indie game scene, it would be the only way for me to get noticed: Anyone can make a screen shot or a gif, but this demo speaks for itself, and it shows that Akurra is a very real game with a lot of content. Thanks for checking it out!
This is definitely not the norm and "they" have been moving away from demos entirely. Games that still have demos are proud of what they've made and confident that the demo will sell you on the game significantly better than other methods would.
Furthermore, increasing a demo's length can easily become an arm's race and it just doesn't make sense for shorter games unless the demo is completely unrelated (still the same ideas used ofc) to the main content. It also doesn't make sense if the content is the beginning of the actual game, since then players will either have to replay a long part or feel as though they're not really getting their money's worth (still short-ish games) with the rest of the game when the thing they had for free was already so long. The solution to these problems is another problem: making more content for no price difference. It's not economically viable.
I do think demos are great as a consumer though. There's nothing better than trying out the game yourself to know if you like it or not. After that, you can make an informed purchasing decision.
oh my god dude that'd be wack
"its a 2d top down open world puzzle game, which is unlike anything I've played before"
A monster's expedition: *and i took that personally*
ME is 2.5d, completely different :P
@@patrickhector isn't this 2.5d too
@@patrickhector its literally the same thing but with different graphics
@@pirilon78 just change it so trees cant have more than 1 log and remove the rolling and bumping mechanic and ad keys and stars and add traps and spikes and they are both basically the same
@@pirilon78 and add other stuff that goes in your inventory
Hoping you eventually noticed that the golden key was infinite.
He never did pain
uh, i have a yellow key :D
I get the feeling he realized at some point, But now it's a bit and he'll keep doing it for his entire playthrough when it comes out.
"I think that's an elephant. I think an elephant would make more sense"
You can get 2 blocks from the top left at that ending puzzle if you move them in a certain way like

Yeah I thought so too! I am so glad the game has multiple ways of solving some areas
I know. I was getting frustrated every time he did the same thing.
18:32 ahhhh he was shown what happens when they run into holes already lol. Fun game, definitely putting on my wishlist. I think the colors of the games name Akurra is the code for that door!!!
This game reminds me of Link's Awakening quite a bit. Waking up on an island, lots of exploration, block/hole-related puzzles, 8-bit graphics. The visuals, music, and level design seem amazing so far, I'm very excited to see the full version.
I though this was an N64-era game (due to the richer colour scheme) right up until Tyler mentioned the 2022 release date.
The artstyle is super similar. It's very charming.
that was my first thought too!
well, it's out now!
I love tyler not noticing when the game is doing nicer things XD
I love how every game has its own crystal cave part. This game, undertale, donkey kong, probably like every Zelda game, so many
I can't say I've played a single crystal cave level in any Zelda game and I've beaten almost all of them.
@@DCul -- Ocarina of Time has the ice area where you get the iron boots.
@@TlalocTemporal Ice and crystals are two completely different things.
@@DCul -- You can argue that ice isn't part of the crystal cave trope, but you can't say ice and crystals are completely different things. Ice is a crystal of water as much as salt is a crytal of sodium chloride.
Dont forget Celeste!
Tyler: I don’t like moving logs into other screens
*cries in monsters expedition*
Oooh I like how this game compounds mechanic after mechanic, like every 5 minutes it introduces a new toy to play with
Not sure if you noticed but the reason the reset kept the key is because it's a permanent key. It was trying to show you that the mechanic of the Golden key is it can be use for EVERY Golden lock
This is the most fun I’ve had watching a video, ever. Like. Ever. Oh my god. This looks so so so very fun.
Thank you for playing, that was fun to watch!
Better than some full releases. Can't wait to either watch you play it or hear about how much fun you had !!
This looks interesting, i hope it turns out great
So cool to see a game by people I know on your channel! Excited to see what gojirra and craigdude think about this play through!
I watched 1 minute of this, stopped, spent a few hours (~2.5) playing through the entire demo myself, and loved every bit of it! (except for the last star of the demo, which has a puzzle with no tutorial that I couldn't figure out how to solve). The potential here is amazing! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
It feels like the old pokemon 'puzzles' but just way more complex. Also makes it feel super nostalgic.
Suffice to say, you still have plenty puzzles for you to solve. To give you an idea, barring any significant spoilers- in order to 100% the demo, you need to collect 15 stars.
But how do you get the one on the small island with green block in front, it’s my last one to get :(
@@xanthenewman-lau4670 check the most right island there should be some tips ;)
@@valde3411 how do you find the music puzzle solution
its the only one i cant figure out
@@sdkahhflka There are hidden music notes scattered on the island, check the lower right dirt tile at 9:00 if you want to know what they look like. They easily go unnoticed.
Speaking of open-world puzzle games: Pikmin :D I highly recommend playing this game. Super fun and well-made game. Specifically Pikmin 3. I feel like that kind of game is just made for your channel
Pikmin is a Strategy Puzzle Open-ish World Nintendo game. Combat is a major part of the game, don't forget that. Granted, he did play Celeste, with those cuthulu enemies, no idea how he dealt with them. It would be really cool to see Tyler play a Pikmin game, but I doubt it will happen... :(
As much as I love Pikmin, I'm not sure it's a shoe in for him. Pikmin is a lot more about time management with some puzzling involved, and Tyler very much seems to prefer games that are closer to pure puzzlers.
There is so much more to this demo! i am loving piecing it all together!
I love that Tyler keeps playing games outside his comfort zone!
30:35 "I just need to not waste any blocks" - immediately pushes the middle log up instead of down, which would have easily given him a free log to work with instead of having to squeeze out another log from the puzzle.
Yeah, that was so funny.
That was some nice puzzlin'! That run cracked me up 🤣 Thanks for playing Tyler ☺
Halfway through the video and i already cant wait to see more of this game.
Oh yes, I’m gonna play this, loved Minit myself so this is right up my alley
That's a fantastic game, one that I am going to wishlist and get when it comes out.
Finally Akurra Demo Gameplay by aliensrock
Definitely wishlisting this game. Looks like a lot of fun!
I just realized that tyler has made this channel into a puzzle channel, not btd…
Suddenly I feel old
30:33 "I just need to not waste any blocks" said immediately after locking a block that he didn't need to. He could quite easily get 2 blocks from the upper platform.
absolutely love the editing
Love the classic style in this game
This makes me think of a cross between Lolo and Star Tropics. Thanks for the content Tyler!
Would love to see a full series on this channel.
Can't wait to see the rest of this!
This is looks so good, I'm def gonna be there when the full game comes out
This looks great, can't wait to see more. I did not watch to the end yet, but you didn't notice, it seems like the yellow locks do not consume keys.
This really reminds me of the old snes and gameboy zelda games, but focused entirely on the puzzles! really cool and cant wait to see more!
That's some pleasing pixel art. Looks like a pretty good puzzle game too.
omfg tyler. The yellow key is permanent, you can open all yellow locks with it.
i paused halfway thu and went and got the demo and played thru it all and it was so good can wait for it to come out and to watch you play some more of it
Ooo I loved this! Definitely looking up to its release!
This game looks absolutely amazing!
i'm really excited for this game (and your series on it)
I am making a puzzle game for a class project right now so I should play this for inspiration
Really appreciate Tyler's brain power with this one. He caught on all the cues and mechanics the game wants to show real fast. Other youtubers who fumble around clueless can be so frustrating to watch.
I would watch the heck out of a playthrough of this
What a huge demo, this is a game I'll have to play before watching
I love when you play all these cool and amazing games. You deserve as many subs as Pewdiepie
I love this game's aesthetic
this kinda plays like a Metroidvania, it looks really cool
This is looking like a real fun game. I get the feeling even in this episode you missed a lot of stuff in just the demo, which in and of itself is impressive.
Very interesting, i might check it out as soon as it's fully released.
This game is amazing af i love it
"I need to not waste any blocks"
*instantly wasted a block but doesn't even realize*
The yellow key had infinite uses!
playing the demo and seeing these puzzles slightly different makes me realize playtesting and redesigning are really important
This game really looks like the zelda oracle games, which are my favorite zelda games, so thank you for showing me this game! Ill definitely keep an eye on it
Only stayed for the first 6 minutes. you made it look too sick! I'll be back after I beat it :)
This feels like an os Zelda type, but without the combat, just the zelda puzzle stuff... I love it
Last night i stopped 10 minutes in to go play the game myself and ended up joining the discord.
Today I beat the any% WR by 300ms.
Needless to say I think I'm enjoying this game lmao
"I just need to not waste any blocks", he said, while wasting a block
This kind of reminds me of an old game called Chip's Challenge
Its coming in a week and im so hyped
The demo is this big already and there is still over a year of development until release.
This is gonna be a good one.
So the game released today, it showed up on my steam recommended page and I had a hunch I was it before, can't wait to play it and I hope you come back to it too.
This game is rad
Reminds me of the good old game Chip's Challenge back in the days.
I recommended this a week ago. Very cool B)
30:30 "I just need to not waste any blocks," he says as he wastes a block by trapping it against the wall.
It seems more like Links Awakening in terms of the graphical styling, but i can see the reference to Minute for sure!
a game you might really enjoy is Ittle Dew/Ittle Dew 2- they're both heavily inspired by Zelda, but it's significantly more focused on puzzle-solving kinda like this game is
This gives me strong diamond rush vibes
I discovered a music glitch in Akurra just like in Super Mario Galaxy's Good Egg Galaxy.
In certain areas with music transitions such as finding the woman in 20:55, leave the area and come back quickly to trick the game into not playing music at all, allowing you to hear the natural sounds.
This reminds me of Survival Island
the puzzle door at 26:46 looks like Espruar runes from Pool of Radiance. :)
Kind of reminds me of old Gameboy game called Mole Mania. One of my all time favorite puzzle games.
*has an infinite supply of keys*
I'll save this for now
There was a lot more to the demo, you could totally do another video on it
21:02 quoting Wayne Campbell i see
There was also that 3 star spot near the start he could access
Tried the game as soon as I saw that you posted the vid, finished it and now came here, end puzzles are very good!
P.S.: Just in the video did i see you can undo deaths as well I went through the whole thing every time I died lol
You might really like talos principle, it a first person puzzle game that gets really hard really fast, i would love to see you playing it!
This game is the pokemon of puzzle games
25:19 I have no words
Elephant, yes an elephant. We all know that looks exactly like an elephant. it’s so far off from some type of bear or something
I remember watching Xisumavoid stream the demo of this about a year or 2 ago.
you can absolutely get another box from the area top left at 30:43 (for example of where I'm talking about) if you push the middle box down instead of up, after you launch the first box of the ledge, you push the middle box (that you push down) to the left and yeet it off the edge too, whether it could be used to solve the puzzle or not I don't know, but it's just a little thing I noticed that I wanted to share!
the exploration reminds me of castaway 2
30:29 - "Let's try this again, I'm sure we can do this without wasting any blocks." - Immediately wastes a block.
killer soundtrack
At about half way, I'm now watching for the sole purpose of seeing how much time it will take you to realize that you don't lose the yellow key when opening yellow locks. And no it's not criticism, I find it very entertaining
How do you keep finding all of these great games? I always gotta go to you for good puzzle game recommendations
This looks quite interesting... reminds me a lot of Power Soukoban, a Japanese SNES game that, like the name Soukoban suggests, is another block-pushing puzzle game. No english dialogue options unfortunately, but all the dialogue is merely flavor text anyway. Definitely should look that up sometime!
I can’t wait for your play through of Inscryption it look soo fun
Very nice edititing this video
