GERD is the most distressing medical worry for me.I did read just a couple of years ago this tablet was linked with onset Dementia which is of concern.

I was investigated urgently as out of the blue I was getting food stuck in my oesophagus after swallowing, only relieved by self induced vomiting, very frightening as nearly passing out on occasion, no heartburn, gastritis etc. My GP and specialist unknown to me were concerned re oesophageal cancer, thankfully nothing seen on endoscopy just a small hiatus hernia. I was started on omeprazole 20mg a day and within 1 week the choking had gone. Fantastic drug for me, no side-effects after a year of use, but I’m sensible enough to watch out for those.

My doctor took me off Omeprazole and prescribed Lansoprazole of which I take 15mg every day! There has never been a discussion regarding how long I should take this treatment, so I just keep on taking it as it's on a repeat prescription. I rarely get acid reflux now, which was why I was prescribed Omeprazole in the first place quite a few years ago. I assume Lansoprazole is doing the same job, but whether I should keep constantly taking it I have no idea! Cutting out eating greasy or creamy food in the evening seems to control the horrible night time acid reflux I had, which was the original problem.

Tysm! I was worrying because i had taken 14 capsules(20mg) and 14(40mg) of omeprazole in the last year thinking it way too much! I'm working on avoiding trigger foods so i dont have to take it anymore as I'm a worrier when it comes to drug side effects.
But please tell me if the amount I've taken is too much for a 12 month period or no? Thanks in advance for your assistance! :)

So I was prescribed Omeprazole. Now, I am home from gall bladder surgery March 3, 2022. Having no gall bladder ( BILE) would the Omeprazole still be good to take or not? I feel confused -I don’t have acid refux, I never burp up acid, I don’t bloat, I don’t have an ulcer either.

Omeprazel makes your reflux worse. I know this from experience. I have been a heavy coffee drinker and that has caused severe heartburn which led me to take omeprazel. It relieved my symptoms and thats what I needed. I didn’t like taking it because of its side effects but the heartburn was so bad that I didn’t want to feel the burn from inside anymore. One day a video on my recommended feed popped up and it caught my eye.. it was about healing your heartburn naturally so I watched it. Come to learn, the reason why you have heartburn is because you don’t have enough acid. What omeprazol does as well as many other options for heartburn is the opposite. They are acid reducers which in tern makes your reflux worse in the long run. That is why when I quit those pills the heartburn was so much worse but I knew I couldn’t continue taking omeprazel because of what it was doing. I learned apple cider vinegar and betaine HCL help with reflux. I bought apple cider vinegar pills as well as the betaine and would take them multiple times a day after eating and a week or so later my heartburn disappeared. I also took a break from coffee and that really helped. I have come to find that drinking a little bit of baking soda, about a teaspoon, with water gives you relief right away when you have heartburn. That is what I have learned about reflux and heartburn and am grateful to be healing the natural way. I hope this helps and you do research to find a better way to cope than taking acid reducer pills which are bad for you and make your problem worse, Take care!

@@DetrickROS That is why I use apple cider vinegar pills like I wrote above. Not drink the actual liquid. And if you do drink the liquid you mix it with water. Its up to you to do what you would like but all I’m saying is taking omeprazole long term is bad and does the opposite of what your body needs.
