I love Sally Field, she's adorable. And she's /such/ a mom. She didn't mean to be offensive - it's just that mother's are constantly looking out for everyone they love, wanting to keep everyone from fighting, they don't want any harm to come to anyone. And she's right. If everyone who rules the world acted like that, there would be no war.

I love her and I agree with her. She's like the Rosie O'Donnell of acting. She's not afraid to speak her heart, and that's very much commendable! :)

Sally is always a drama queen but she has her moments of spontaneity and comedy in that speech. Also a gd pt about mothers ruling the world and there'd be no wars. How true!

But the irony, Sally "Mahoney' Field, starring in a film, shot in israel, called "Not Without My Daughter'. This film was shown in January 1991, and was presumably meant to drum up sentiment for the upcoming first Iraqi war. Sally forgot this, perhaps.

i am not an Arab.. but i got an opportunity to live in Saudi Arabia. I wanted to tell u one thing. Women specially living in Arab countries takes full advantage of Men, They hate working and also taking care of there own kids, Womens believe it Mens job to go outside and bring food on the table. I find that very unfair for Men, Its so hard to along with women in Saudi.but when i went to Dubai and Bahrain, things were opposite, women were so sexual, luvs clubbing and drinking but at the end. They start searching for a guy who reserve cultural and hate to talk about there past. I don't say its the best way but i find its the only solution. If someone like to extremely open please go west but if u want reserve life go east. I find this world could be an option that what kind of culture we want, if every country does the same thing, you will get sick from this world. people luv to have choice some get it and some don't. this world is test place and god is watching your behaviour for your end result..

Tah Bas Vancouver Tah Bas Vancouver Tah Bas Vancouver thanks for sharing your thoughts with us reading it. Perhaps the men treat women nicely-🤷🏻‍♂️-in the 2 countries that you’ve been to outside of Saudi, but I think that the majority of Arab country treats women as 2nd class citizens after men. Sharia law, denial of education, rule of thumb and not being allowed to vote, (&/or drive) is not exactly equal treatment for the people who have to follow the above-said laws, (women). Whether or not women are more sexually aggressive in Bahrain and Dubai doesn’t really pertain to the comment you replied to. Indeed, we should treat each other very well, I agree with you 100%, Sir. I’m not trying to slam anyone Arabic or any Arab countries, just to clarify that I think your comment belongs with the 'headline' comments, where your information could be much more widely...read by many more people. 2 thumbs.

@teefkay While I appreciate your point, I don't really see what it has to do with what I said. At no point did I say women don't make war.
'Mbiscoe' stated that we have seen what happens when women are in charge and pointed to examples of female leaders who have started or been involved in wars. I corrected him by saying that Sally Fields stated if women ruled the world, not states.
So, did you disagree with that?

She obviously memorized her speech, like her roles. But due to her hightened emotional state and the time contraints she was aware of, she stammered and stumbled over her words. Actors try to think of the last word they said, to help them to remember the rest. Also, I'm sure being on LIVE TV in front of a HUGE audience didn't help.
However, unelequent she may have been, her message was clear, that mothers wouldn't choose war as a solution to conflict.

Honestly, why are people so up at arms about her comment?
    It is HER OPINION.
Isn't freedom of expression what this country is all about? then there is no reason why she is wrong to state her beliefs.
you know, for a country so bent on teaching the world equality and democracy, this country has its own prejudice about what is allowed to be said and what isn't.

The fact that Sally was censored for what little she said is ridiculous. Someone over reacted....but maybe not. We are supposed to enthusiastically give up husbands, fathers and sons (and equivalent in women) to wars that have no end...that are only there to reduce our numbers and make the rich richer.
It is a very sick world and we have to take the reigns before we are all purposely exterminated. We must respect nature. (which includes all life)

As I said before I do not think the government sent you to Iraq to defend your people but I know that I would not want to be a soldier and I am greatful to the volunteers like you that join the army so that we have enough soldiers to actually defend the USA if our country was invaded.

I was amazed that so many wrote scathing letters to the producers of the show and Fields, that they allowed her to say, without bleeping it out, 'God Damned'......! I think she is correct, that if more women had more power, there would be less conflict and that, number 2, every war is, indeed, damned by God, in that they occur, too often, in His name. I am forever astounded that people can be so offended so easily and take the time to threaten, write, scream, etc....when the truth is stated.

LIttle White Shoes, her TV son was in the army, went to Iraq, came home severely injured, got re-addicted to drugs as a result etc etc etc. That was a big plot line the season she won the award, so Im sure that is why she focused on that. excuse me, this is the whole clip, i forgot. now, this is probably the freest nation in the world. free speech being crucial. but it's still a struggle to maintain that. every tiny scrap of social progress has been earned by the blood, sweat and tears of women, workers and minorities. and we're oppressed and repressed in very different ways than other parts of the world, our consent or at least ignorance of atrocities is what allows them to be perpetrated.

well maybe there would be a more relational/communication oriented way of leadership.
but do not underestimate women who are determined to fight for their freedom, to resist oppressive forces, to build a better future for those kids.
such women have died in Nazi Germany/Austria, and the tale of those proud resistants is in risk of being forgotten for the larger history of war. women were among the key players of the résistance in France, opposing Russians in Afghanistan and Chechnya etc etc

And again, the point is this: Throughout history, countries run on the kind of values Sally Field espoused in that clip have not survived for very long. They were the first countries to be invaded by hostile foreign powers - most notably European countries from Poland to France that were invaded and conquered by Nazi Germany in 1939-40. In particular, radical Islam sees Ms. Field's attitude as evidence of wobbly-kneed weakness.

speaking of the military and poverty, i helped out at my city library (a lot of homeless hang around there) by putting on an event for giving clothes and blankets to the homeless (people from all over donated stuff). anyway, Planned Parenthood and the US Army heard about it. many of the young homeless people signed up... and never seen again.
