The best thing about graham norton is he just lets people speak and lets the conversation naturally develop. He’s just the best!

All Graham is doing was what Johnny Carson did all of his talk show career. That's what a great host does and Graham is a great host.
Absolutely. That’s why all the Celebs love him. And he’s funny and interesting in his own right but he doesn’t make the Show about him, he compliments every person that he talks to. Love him to bits.
And he, somehow, gets the other guests to ask the questions. It's so cool. :)
I can't think of another talk show host who would give a guest enough space to talk for 3 minutes uninterrupted. That Chris and Rami were enraptured by her as well says it all.
Watching Chris Pine basically take over the interview, & Graham sitting back & allowing it to happen is kind of amazing. That's why this is the best talk show ever.
US talk shows used to have multiple guests on stage for this very reason. It's something we've lost.

It was easy for him being that finally someone actually had something interesting to say on the Graham Norton show.
As opposed to Sally Field constantly interrupting them when they were telling their stories. Now I understand why people hated her after her second Oscar win (and the infamous acceptance speech).

@@AlanHope2013 Actually, Sally Field did the exact opposite while both of these men were telling THEIR stories. She kept interrupting them and making very annoying remarks. Watch the whole show before you reply so you'll know what you're talking about.

I would like to hear / listen in on a conversation just between them.
He strikes me as one of those people that, when you're talking, he makes you feel like the center of the universe. It's an extraordinary ability and I've known people who are like that. Everyone loves people like that, because they make everyone around them feel special and important.
He's also, I believe, just a genuinely really good human being.

That’s the advice I gave my son and it’s always worked for me.....well, before I got married 30 years ago!

Horse Friend not my type..but he became much more attractive when he lifted that arm, turned his body and look directly at her. Unless you are a literal goblin...most women place a lower value on looks than men. Women want to be loved. Part of that is being heard and not humored. Really listen and you are halfway there. Also be sure you aren’t doing the same..easy to listen to a women who is beautiful instead of average. Being honest about looks and focusing on personality doesn’t just benefit women.

It's like watching a private conversation, people getting down and sharing and respecting and learning from each other. Wonderful.

A rare and beautiful moment of personal truth. My hat is off to Mr. Graham for allowing Ms. Field to share it. Watch it again and pay attention to Mr. Pine, he got a lot out of her story.
I think it was Chris on this occasion who got us there. The whole room was in utter silence. Graham had the good instinct to just let that happen without interruption.
I think Chris Pine saved this interview. Notice how she opened up more after he gently "took over" as the interviewer. Graham is an amazing host, but his specialty is asking questions that will lead to a surprise punchline, and Sally knew that. See how she was hesitant to answer his first questions? She was afraid she was being set up. But when Chris stepped in and asked her a simple question clealy without any intent behind it and she relaxed. Good instincts.
One of the genius elements of this show is having multiple guests together. It doesn't work every time, but so often it works amazingly well.
But this is also part of Graham Norton's gift. He knows when to step back and allow his guests to interact. Yes, he's clever and an adept quipster, but he's also sensitive and intelligent and a very savvy talk show host. The best, really.

Both Chris Pine and Rami Malek were so intent as she spoke and they both were moved by Sally Field's description of the "fireflies" that she felt dancing around her eyes as a 12 year year old girl caught up in her first acting moment.

This is probably my most favorite snip of the Graham Norton show EVER. Not that I don't LOVE the goofy and laughing and all that, but this was just everything. Raw, normal, I thing something that we all can vividly relate to in Sally's story... she is truly a Super Woman!

Her vulnerability is doubtless part of her gift as an actress; then, as she says, she took seven years to learn a new craft and expose a whole new layer of vulnerability. We should all aspire to continue to grow as she has as we age. What a gift...I can't wait to read her book.

That explains it. I’m a therapist LOL. I used to watch my mom talk with her friends and how intimate they got and how compassionate they were with each other. She was a nurse. I know exactly where I got my style, but then I learned even more in training. Therapists that’s what we do-listen- that’s what we do LOL.

Absolutely. I was in the same fog until I was about 12 and 1/2 years old. I too grew up in an abusive household. We died for food and dumpsters. We slept in a car. We lived in motel rooms. We were in foster care not once but twice. And then I started to tell. I started to tell anyone that would let me tell them. And it was like seeing a buoy in the ocean for the first time

@@Harinair72 That's so nice...and yes, many times men and women have that same connection with their mother. I guess it's just been my experience that most men tend to not be as connected to their mothers emotionally simply because they have never truly tuned into their own emotions to begin with. A lot of men may miss their moms and love them; however, they tend to keep themselves from feeling too much overwhelming emotion and therefore, they don't really question their lives based on the absence of their mother. I also realize that many people in general have never had a good connection with their mothers. Even though, sometimes, that negative connection can still lead to questioning everything. Anyways, I'm so sorry for your loss, Hari Nair...and from what you've replied, it sounds as if your mother was a wonderful lady who truly loved you! 💖

Graham is just the best host ever. He wasn’t even the one who made the question that made her start that amazing story, and even so, he knew to let her do her thing. He knows when to step in and knows when to just stay quiet and listen. Seriously, he’s wonderful!
I’ve always loved Sally and I can sooo identify with what she’s saying here, especially at this point of my life, but my focus here is on Chris Pine. In an instant I can see such depth and empathy-genuine concern. He is DEFINITELY good people ❤️

I love how intrigued Chris Pined looked while she talked. She has always been a favorite of mine. I don't really read biographies but I may have to pick hers up.
She has everyone on stage and the audience completely engaged into her story. You can see the emotion on the other guests faces as she's telling these stories. You know you've had an impressive life when you can engage that many people at one time like she does.
I've always loved and admired this delightfully normal woman.

She does it in a kind of whimsical and deep way, and I understand exactly what she is talking about, even though my experience in life might be different; but she tells her story in the expressive and descriptive way of a writer.

What a beautiful and eloquent moment. This is the only show of its kind where a guest can open up like this and not be interrupted by the host cracking a smart-a$$ joke. And Graham lets moments like this happen. He knows intuitively when to not speak and to let the guest turn away from him and speak intimately to the other guests. No other host I've seen has that skill today.

OMG she just put words to my life too. That fog ...is how to survive . Dance, Singing, Acting became the light that allowed me to LIVE on stage too. Off stage the fog of sadness always came back. she just blew me away. Sweet Sally.

@@laurenchristine9209 Maybe, but he allowed this moment happening without trying to take over. And that's why his couch and his tv shows are so special. He is the host, but also lets his guests have some kind of chemsitry and share among themselves as well. He ''guides'' without wanting to be the center of attention. His guests are. And most of them feel a lot more comfortable on his couch than on my american shows. Because it's a gathering. We see more of the personnalities a tad. Some egos also.
But if Graham wouldn't have let it happen and withdrawn himself from the conversation, this moment wouldn't have happened. Sally Field was more comfortable with the guests, it shows in her body language. You would never see that with a host like Fallon. Graham knows when to withdraw, guide or take over. And that's what makes him a great host.

"i would be 65 for the rest of my life"......she said so truthfully what many people struggle with....being STUCK in a certain place, time, relationship, circumstance, etc. that we can never get pass. So that we never emotionally, or spiritually grow pass that point.

She's so amazing. I would be remiss if I didn't mention one of her lesser known movies; Not without My Daughter. She is riveting in this movie, it is almost as if it's a documentary, but in a fascinating way. She's a treat in any role of course. Pine and Malek are fine audience members, as if they're not great themselves. That was a nice touch.
That movie was good and she was wonderful in it. I had read the book first and she really did justice to the story. She made me cry my heart out in Steel Magnolias, the scene at the cemetery. So good.
I personally learned so much from that movie... Of course I did go on the rollercoaster of emotions, but I really learned to NEVER date/marry a Man from a foreign country!!!!! Did you ever see Sybil, that's another fabulous movie Sally starred in, based on a true story. Bring tissues though!!!
We watched that film in one of my high school classes. The story & film stuck with me since then. A very memorable film. It teaches so much.

So many actors find acting the best way to cope with their demons. Most seem to use it to run away, pretending to be someone else is just a relief.

It's so sad that she feels like she wasn't hearing herself when she was an inspiration to so many guys and girls over the years. Some people spend their whole lives trying to live up to their heros standards when really the best they will be is just an average person that others look up to. Don't torture yourself to be something great until you know who you are first. Be happy with being average if that is all you will ever be.

I read her book. She is a survivor. After what she's been through, I feel that it took a lot of courage for her to write about it and talk about it. I think I understand how acting provided her with a much needed coping mechanism.

As she was talking, I thought how fortunate she was to find the thing (acting) that helped her channel her voice and guide her through life in spite of the difficulties she faced. Really powerful that she is willing to share that with the world.
Sally seems so vulnerable yet opens up so beautifully in talking about difficult issues in her past that many of us have had to confront, or have feared to confront. Chris Pine's face and demeanor reflect empathy and strength of character. In that two-shot it's amazing that they're doing this in front of an audience and cameras. To the viewer, no one both those two matters.
This is why they are all such good actors. Open and able to listen are great qualities to have for that kind of work

I remember Sally Field from 'The Flying Nun,' from when I was a kid. Loved her then, and her progression as an actor. She became a really powerful actor. Killer sense of humor, too. What a woman!
The way she talks and got the attention of the gentleman around her aside from de public is pure and simple real life struggles and sometimes it takes a life to be able to express yourself in front of everyone.

When you have that X factor like that, no amount of money, or success can compare. , When everyone wants to be near you. This is a TRUE MOVIE STAR DISGUISED in a sweet , unassuming sweet lady.
