Yeah, Mahtob can learn real values. Like FGM, being sewn shut till her wedding day when She's 12, being a prisoner in her own house. A good read is "Because They Hate" by Brigitte Gabriella.
Behind the Veil is a good book also. And the one about the princess escaped the Middle East. The real Dr. I this film never saw his wife or daughter again. He was miserable alone in the end and died from stress.
Betty was a SERIOUSLY brave woman for doing all she did to get herself and Mahtob out of Iran. And poor little Mahtob was scared to death but she, like her mother before her, was as brave as she was capable of being at her tender age. The real life Mahtob and I were born only a month apart, same year. I cant even imagine going through what she did, seeing and experiencing what she did, and surviving to tell the world about it, right alongside her mother. Praise God they got out, and away from Dr. Mahmoody.

Iran was a beautiful free modern country before becaming an islamic estreme estate.... the movie is amazing but it was ' 84.... l have travelled to this country many times...people are friendly and it has a lot to offer...and not everyone is extreme.... but yes...there is also a dark side of it ...for women especially ... l had a horrible experience there with the religious police one evening ...2 of us just left the hotel to buy some delicious food... we were dress and covered according to the law ( we knew what to do ) ... yet l never forget the hostility of the men staring at us in the restaurant( only men ..not a single woman there) .. only the host was friendly ..... we decided to get take away instead .... when we left only couple of minutes later we were stopped by armed religious police...shouting at us ... trying to get us in and to prison ... mobiles didnt work in the country so we could not allert anyone of the hotel or colleagues ( it was probably 8/9 pm local ) ..... l had to remain calm and talked to them trying to leave us alone .... luckly l manage .... but it left me such a bad taste that l never left the hotel in the evening again on my visits after that.... it is a shame
Iranians are chiaa not muslims .
I dated a guy from Iran. He had some American blood as he had blue eyes. He was sweet & honest. Never abusive or dominant. His name was Abraham.
Looks like this guy there (betty's husnand) was also sweet for the first couple of years
I was in practice with a Muslim Psychiatrist and he referred female patients to me because it would be inappropriate for him to be a female therapist if she were Muslim. I saw doctor’s wives silently suffering from depression, anxiety and sometimes suicidal ideations. They had no voice. In some communities, a wife and mother does not sit at the table with her family, she feeds the dogs and eats in the kitchen alone.
If I was in this movie as their son, I would agree with Betty of not staying and living in Iran forever because I can’t trust an Iranian who is mean, abusive, and untrustworthy like Moody is.
Sally Field nailed that role.
There was a movie called
" Chocolate " Alfred Molina was great in that....it was a semi-romantic movie
I liked that movie too.
Severus Jake same here.. I lived in Norway since I was three years old.. then at an age of 15 my mother took me and my sister on vacation to kuwait.. and forced us to stay. It was a horrible experience and my mom's family was a nightmare.. my sisters are back in Norway and Sweden but I decided to stay. I'm 30 now but I kind of got used to it
How funny is it when he says, "You think they like Iranians in Michigan?"
Meanwhile, Michigan is becoming a muslim no-go zone.
No one believes that unfortunately, they still believe Islam means peace.... It does but not for anyone who opposes it
Ironic tbh
@@scootchieandboo So true ... Many of my friends escaped from Iran and Afghanistan - many of them are here since more than 40 years . They know how Khomeini and the Taliban destroyed their countries ... They are glad to live in a free country - and they became Christians ... From Germany with love !!
Michigan is mostly Arab tho not Iranian
@@AkhanAkhibotton mile is it's Muslim.
Alfred Molina looks soft and cuddly to hug! ❤
The actor himself is supposed to be a really nice guy
6:18 until this happens,
Just kidding he's an actor, he is nothing like the guy he portrayed
That's why it good to check out a country before you go there .
And to separate the reality from one's fantasy and one's desire to believe someone who is basically untrustworthy.
@@lauriej.3544 How could betty be untrustworthy in the first place she believed her husband was good man
I was thinking about this movie today. Mainly because I watch 90 Day Fiance and there's a couple on there, similar circumstances and now they are in his country.I was considering this may happen to his wife and daughter.
I love that show but who are the couple you’re talking about?
He quit his job...deliberately
Mahmoody.
Never never never go to Iran. No matter how they plead or cajole. Once they get you in Iran, if you are married to an Iranian, you are considered Iranian. Your American rights no longer count with their government.
In hte moment his hit her..the respect fisnished
The actor hated doing those scenes too.
My former boss was from Iran and he was a total creep
This man was an scorpio for sure
Doc Ock and Aunt May
Wow...he had the manipulation down to a T.
The law speaks for the country. She can not obtain her own passport? She has no rights to her own children if she divorces??
Welcome to Islam
figure Skate She has no rights to herself either; in Islam the wife and children are the man’s property
We're in 2024 and this is still going on women treated not equally degraded like were nothing and this traditions and beliefs have to change .... women should be at the same caliber as man....
Im married to an Egyptian but I already made it known we aren't raising our children Muslim...either that or we don't have kids and my husband agreed....for now...lets see if he changes his tune
He'll change...but if he is open minded, he will accept what religion you are and what his religion is too. I dont know if it will confuse the kids. So it's better to them, "there is a God! No matter what religion they are".
im genuinely interested to know what was going on in that head of his, why he made this decision and who influenced him,
Ebizzill his family and religion.
In order to know the truth about this family you can read the book entitled “The False Heroine and Her Ridiculous Bully: The Story of Betty and Dr Mahmoody by His Coauthor,” found on Amazon.
It was his family and culture.
@@surenpiruzi1954whoever is interested in Mahmoody's lies, I wonder.
Yah it’s hard here, that’s why you fight for it. It was easier for him in Iran, he was being extremely selfish. She didn’t belong their, nor did her child. If that’s what he wanted he needed to separate from her. Their values were just too different. You can’t force what you want on to your partner.
God bless America
2nd that!! As an Hispanic / South American, America showed me that Freedom is everything 🙌 Bless the Land of the Free
Some Eastern religious texts ...Since women are thought of as among the lower beings, the prayer for them is that they may be born again as men.
Great movie
People just do not appreciate the freedom that the US Constitution Amendments and Bill of Rights provides. Even here Americans so often dont realize the Rights we must cherish and protect from all threats foreign and domestic.
that clenched fist says it all
Man I love to hate Alfred Molina's characters. He's amazing! If a movie has him it's usually amazing
For everyone saying most Muslim men don’t act like this.. bullshit, we had a Muslim friend who acted totally normal for awhile then slowly he started putting things in my bf’s head about me acting Like I was in charge, and basically just talking down about me.. it was super creepy and orchestrated.. he was pretty modernized too, don’t ever trust these people!
Yes muslims all seem to be the same
i work.with iranian mens nothing can change their mind when it comes to hate
My sister in law who grewup in Catholic faith and with Bouddhiste values ( she is mixed) is dating a Muslim who grewup in Europe. It’s not only her dating a Muslim, but him dating a non Muslim. As long they both make it work out … it’s a normal couple with way more subjects to discuss and find a middle ground.
The moment he raised his fist, he declares his absolute authority
he was playing a Persian man but Arabs and Persians are Middle Astern and they kind of look like each other and yes he does look Persian or Arab although, his a Spaniard
Arabs and Persians aren't the same people? News to me!
Spaniards look nothing like Arabs and Persians. Mediterranean from Europe is totally different from Middle Eastern. If you have not been to Spain, then you truly dont know.
@@AKL005 Read my comment again because I think you didn’t read it correctly. What I mentioned was the Arabs and Persians kind of look like each other and that although, the actor is a Spaniard he could pass for a Middleastern

I want to read the book now after seeing this movie!
I wonder if Moody ever showed a tiny hint of his true colors before they came to Iran .
Nah. In the clip where they're still in America he said to his daughter that he's as American as apple pie.
In the book, right after they were married, he put only his name on their joint checking account. He said they don't put women's names on bank accounts in Iran.
@@Vydio wow thats a red flag alright .

You should have never married a Muslim in the first place
But at the same time, I wonder if Mahmoody was claiming to be christian from a Muslim family, and at the same time if she hadn't Mahtop wouldn't exist. And if she hadn't gone with him, she wouldn't know to warn other women about this like both her and Mahtop are doing now and in this movie
Wtf is wrong with you crazy
I really love the theme song

I would have preferred Beat It by Michael Jackson.
