- ESP LTD Phoenix Arctic Metal (EMG81TW)
- Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier
- Tech 21 Paul Landers PL1 Signature Fly Rig
- RedSeven Amplification Amp Central

RAMMSTEIN! Who loves them? What's your favorite Rammstein album and guitar tone? Also, what did you think of my tones? Danke! :)
I love 'em! Mutter is still my favorite album in terms of songs and tones. I'd say your tone was pretty close!
Freaking love Rammstien. My favorite album is definitely Riese, Reese, but all the albums are good.
Reise Reise / Mutter
Great tones. I have the same setup my tone.
Great video
Rammstein is one of my top rock/metal three bands. They are one of the few bands I play covers of. Richard and Paul are probably some of the guitarists I "get" most. They are talented but typically their guitar parts are simple and fitting for the song, which you don't always find nowadays; a lot of their songs only have two or three distinct guitar parts. I'm glad you did this!
People can shred 'til they're blue in the face, but laser precise rhythm playing will always be king. Nice job!
Not really bro. How about both at the same time ? Thats where the mojo happens.
@@baronhelmut2701 exactly, as EVH said, play lead whike playing rhythm: EVH, T-Ride (Eric Valentine), Nuno Bettencourt, Vito Bratta, Jake E. Lee, Kevin Cadogan...
@@EDEN-LIMINAL well look at the more modern guitarists. Mick Gorden … cant believe im saying this: Tim Henson. Or friggin Steven Vai bro. The dude straight up doesn’t need to play rythm … it just happens along the way.
That Tech 21 rig actually Sounds really nice!
I love these band tone matching videos. The nerd in me wants to know how to nail each of my favorite band's sounds. Great job on this one. :)
Sounded great - really like your tones, playing, and emulation of the Rammstein sound!
It sounds really good. I was surprised to see how obviously different they were when you jumped back and forth. I purposely wasn't looking at the screen so my ears wouldn't be affected by my eyes. It just jumped out. But that blended sound is just so good, they complement each other for such a full sound. Well done.
Nicely complementing indeed. Well done, or rather: sehr gut, Kammerade! 😀
Pretty spot on, my guy!! Great work!
The blend of the two sound is amazing, really Rammstein like. Would love to see a sound like Trivium next!
5150, 6505+, or 5153 al 6l6 is literally all they use. Corey really likes the stealth 5153
Great video about the Rammstein sound! Thanks
I'll have to show this to a good friend of mine. He loves Rammstein. 🤘🤘 this was awesome.
Great video again Jon… Rammstein is definitely one of my favorite bands, and especially live sounding bands, saw them live for the first time in 2004 in Ahoy Rotterdam, and I was a 13 year old kid who JUST started playing guitar that year, and that freaking sound blew me the hell away… that also started my love for the Rectifier sound. And also the last performance I saw by them in 2019 again Rotterdam, was one of the best sounding concerts I’ve ever been to, can’t wait to see them again this year =P
Great that you were also there in Rotterdam! It was mesmerizing!
Wonderful video..bravo...fun and educational....and it is so impressive what T21 and Landers managed to pull out with the PL1 unit
Great video ! Totally nailed their tones! Like many mentioned they compliment each other very well. I also enjoy doing this blend for Rammstein covers using the Recto 1 red or even soldano models from the Axe Fx 3 with YA IR’s.
Aspettavo questo video da tempo 💥
Awesome video and sound 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Used Tech 21 amps, Fly-rigs, Powered speaker cabs for years. Currently using two Tech 21 Deuce Deluxe 200 IR cabs for my looping setup.
I just love dual rectifiers. Nice mix of grittiness and precision.
Simple, crusjhing and badass. Love it. Rammstein is sick!
Nailed it as usual, gorgeous guitar tones. No single piece of gear sounds bad in your hands man ! What about a mixing insight video for 2022 ?
Awesome band 👌. Sounds right on the money. Have a good day man..
Danke!
Very nice indeed! I was able to see Rammstein in Philly recently and their live tone nearly buried me. The sheer girth and power of it...it was epic. I cannot see myself investing in that Mesa rig at this point, but the PL-1 sounds like a great piece for the home-recording toolkit, and a bargain at that. Killer jam you worked up here. Bravo!
Saw them last night in Los Angeles. Massive & Epic. The Loudest Show I have ever been too ❤🤘🤘
@@Mickcotton Awesome!
Greetings from Russia! Thanks for the video!
I've done a lot of articles about the Rammstein guitar sound.
It's funny, but you're the first one who made the most correct video on this topic.
Microphones and the number of guitar recording layers are very important in the Rammstein sound. Usually, they are used 8-12 in a record.
...and play with octaves, of course
The first were actually the Bulgarian band ÆDelric to cover completely their sound
Really nice analysis! Great video
I sometimes also use the ENGL Fireball 100 Emulation of Helix together with the OH ENGL v30s Cab Sims. Also a very Rammsteiny sound!
It has a certain heavy bottom end, as well as the juiciness that I love. Also great with a Rectifier in a dual chain setup :)
Your riffs are always so tasty!
This was pretty freaking good. The mesa sound reminds me a lot of the first Emigrate record.
Could it be because Kruspe just happened to use a Mesa?
Kruspe uses a Mesa even exactly this one up until recently, when he switched to the Triple Rectifier.
Best foreign pronounciation of the word Rammstein I've ever heard! Great Video and sounds
Danke!
Spot on mate 👍🇬🇧
Excellent video! Rammstein's sound has been changing over the years but the sound you have shown is identical to the last album The most difficult to imitate in my opinion is the one from the mutter album where Richard said that he made up to 25 guitar layers to have a more punchy and thick sound. Greetings from Chile.
Most excellent
🤘🏽😈🤘🏽
Amazing!
On point!
Paul’s and Richard’s sounds complement each other perfectly. I doubt they even landed on this format intentionally…each seem to have their own preferences. But that ultra-present, aggressive solid state sound and the big, thick dual rec work perfectly together.
they are also using modified triaxis preamps, the rectifiers are the very old 2 channel 150w black versions 🙏🎸
@@dupgab on stage live my friend 15 years ago 🙏🎸... just look at old rig rundown stuff..
Great video ! you definitely manage to capture the core tones every time !
Please make some Adam Jones from TOOL tone video. Spoiler: seymour duncan JB into a VH4 AND a dual rectifier into 4x12 OS mesa cab.
Richard used EMG pickups from the beginning. But recently (2022-2023? Idk) has changed to his own Signature Fishman Fluence modern’s. Great vid btw!
Crazy how good the Tech21 sounds
We need ALTER BRIDGE, MASTODON or SLASH man. Your sound blow my mind
LIFAD is my favourite album. It blew my mind the first time at Pinkpop 2010.
I always thought it was weird how the other guitarist used Tech 21 stuff for his tones. Cool to finally hear what it sounds on its own!
How other guitarist use it ??
You can even smell the flames!!!
Would love to hear this on the helix 😊 sounded awesome man.
My favourite rig.
Amazing video! You made it sound just like them! Remarkable as always! I think Richard uses fishmans now? At least he was when I saw them in 2019!
Really? I didnt know that
@@SonicDriveStudio I think he mentions it in an Ultimate Guitar interview too :)
I know backstage at least, he uses 2 kempers.
Damn it, that sounded amazing! Rammstein would definitely benefit from your writing … the melody part gave me instant goosebumps! 🥰
But other than the writing, the sounds were just amazing!!
Sounds awesome. It would be great if you also noted what tunings you use for these demos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! In this case drop C
It was pretty cool and close, really Rammstein like and I heard Richard used modded Rectifier Rev F, you can get this sound by boosting Rectifier with TS9 Tubescreamer pedal.
This is exactly what I was looking for!!!!!!! Industrial guitar sounds from the 90’s. I have a Carvin V3 I can get close to the Mesa with, other than a FlyRig is there a pedal that would get close? I have a Tech 21 XXL (Black/White v2). It’s what Page Hamilton used before his signature ProTone pedal now. Awesome video btw.
A video about recreating that sound in the stomp would be amazing 😁😁
👌🏻👌🏻
Hey man ,you can find Paul's exact settings if you pause at the right moment during his presentation video of the PL.
Sounds killer is it possible we could ever see a sounds like rammstein done on a helix I’ve seen a few really good tones but i personally think you would and could nail it on the head big time since the rectifier in the helix is a little bit hard to work with in my opinon I honestly think you could do an amazing job with a rammstein helix tone
That song tho... hot damn
New rammstien songs a banger
Hello🙏
What microphone are you using for recording rectifier, and where does he go? Mic preamp or audio interface ?👌
Tech 21 sound reminds me the Quake soundtrack
I recall Reznor user pedals (distortion, probably a sansamp too) direct to desk and turbosynth a lot...then process it further...gain staging is the key.
Paul doesn't use the FlyRig on stage. What he meant by that is that he also used it live (i guess during soundcheck and stuff) to try it out.
Rammstein's equipment (mostly digital now) is fully automated via a logic-session. Including patch changes, fireworks, lights, playbacks / samples etc.
These sound like modern Rammstein. But so far nobody has been able to come up with their true old school 90’s sound, that tone was a German bestial machine.
Best one ive heard was on 1998 live in lakefort arena and 2005 volkerball. Just amazing. Best industrial tones period
In the early days, to get that unique sound, Richard and Paul would record the same song for like 10 to 20 times and put them together to get to that famous result. Richard, f.e., used a Mesa Boogie Mark II C+ and a ESP 901. The rest of his studio equipment from that era is (almost) totally unknown to the public.
@@Dirksma lots of Hardware analog German high quality made gear. Germany is scary when they really show some of their potential.
So with the Fly Rig if I wanted too could I plug it into a regular pedal board? And put it infront of a solid state amp on a clean channel?
Amazing video! Thank you! I have a question. You said that recording-wise you quad-tracked the guitars. Did you put both Tech21 tracks hard left and the two Mesas to the right or did you put the Tech and Mesa on top of each other to both sides?
The latter
The Tech21 stuff is made to sound like a tube amp, as the SansAmp circuitry Tech 21 have created is a tube emulation (and cabinet emulation). Even if the pedal doesn't have tube in it

Fuck Yeah! RAMMSTEIN!!! 🤘🤘
I wonder how would that Flyrig 21 would
Sound with my evh 5150 stealth
Bitte! 😀👍🏻🙏
Can someone please tell me how to get a DI track with this Fly Rig!? Nobody has been able to help for weeks. It’s awfully hard to edit with this Fly Rig
Great video! Can you please tell me what VST you used for the drums 🙏
Steven Slate Drums
@@SonicDriveStudio thank you, I left the same question in a different video of yours. Disregard that lol. Thank you again sir
Tech 21 dosn't have the same bass or is it just a knob volume?
Hello! What gauge strings in this guitar?
rosenrot album, so cold, so industrial, so intense and passionate album,
U got that really close. Even drums. What did u use for them?
Steven Slate Drums 5.5
flyrigをENGLスピーカーに繋いでるのですか?
what is the song you played called?
Bro make a sound like Rammstein with the Line 6 Helix please
Yes, please!!!
Line 6 Helix doesn't work for Rammstein sound. As they VST sims of 3 chan. Dual or Triple Rectifier don't get any close to Rammstein tone. Richard plays Revision C 1992 Dual Recto 2 channel. A similar Rev F will do too.
@@axelcorvus9443 You are probably right but I still hope John can somehow get close to it using other tools, he’s creative!
@@david37485, you can check Fkuff's pack of amp Sims and STL tones too. There are some great Sans sims too. The mics however as in the tonal blend and in the mix are the tricky ones.
@@axelcorvus9443 What is Fkuff's pack do you actually mean?
now that you've got a super kraken, would love to see a sounds like Rabea. Despite having one i still cant quite nail his tone!
can you make a child of bodom tone
Do a sound like rabea would be awesome
Sound like Limp bizkit next😊
Richard's sound is more like a expensive high refined tone while Paul's tone sounds more like a brutal basic tone in my opinion.
They are meant to do just that. Kruspe leads and Landers follows. Obviously a tube amp outputs a lot more sound than the fly rig.
4:02 and 8:31
3:22 and 7:51
Paul has been an ENGL guy basically forever and only in recent years did he get the tech21 for live settings.
I always find it weird when people hold picks with their thumbs like that. Feels so uncomfortable to me. Banana grip. Lol
Paul use a ENGL Powerball
Nah, he uses Sansamp stuff. PSA, GT2 and his Flyrig. That Engl was only for the video clips for aesthetics.
The first time that somebody has worked out this sound properly. THANKS! Also these short demos sound better than the last album and the last single. Rammstein's guitar sound is unique, but what is often forgotten is that the drums are even more important. Unfortunately, these have also become significantly worse in the last two LPs.
tone rammstein y no toca nada de rammstein xD
YOU MUST USE A GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM TO SOUND LIKE RAMMSTEIN!!!!
I know but I don't have one with EMGs and that makes a big difference
Sound like pantera
Mesa 2 words…FLAB/BUZZ 👎🏻
And I love that :)
This pedal flattens the sound. It makes music boring to hear.
