Brother...that was one of the coldest keyboard solo's I have ever seen and I'm an O.M.C. member. I guess the recipe would be: a dash of Bernie,a pinch of Junie,Roger and Herbie. Teaspoon of George and Stevie with a stir by Gerard. Thanks for the joy and creativity.
I interviewed Ronnie on Wsmz in Columbus Ohio one, and told him about the first time I saw him in 76 open for Grover Washington. He remembered and we went on to hang out for the next five hours. A real nice man.
Unreal - 7:35 on is a clinic on keyboard improv in a live setting!! What an entertainer. Dont get me wrong, Ronnie is the damn Man! Great keyboard player selection however - strong band for a fusion icon.
@livegigvideo1...I have been THOROUGHLY entertained, just now....WOW! I only wish it had been longer....I didn't want it to end. Great performance....and you did one hell of a job of recording it. SUPERB POST! Thank you, and God bless.
Damn, I love this band. Every member brings a certain flavor. Just like a plate of soul food, you have to have all the right courses to make it a fine meal. Ronnie Laws couldn't have picked a better band to compliment his great talent.
And let's not forget the super funky groove laid down by the bassist and drummer... what?! Such restraint and such funk at the same time! And the guitar solo - go Brother! So tasteful and so mean at the same time.
I was just pulling up what l thought was a nice rendition by Ronnie. Didn't know I would almost pass out, glad Ronnie stepped back in when he did cause the keyboard player was doing things never seen before.
When I first heard this song, it was by Grover Washington in the 70's. I thought that my life was over. Grover made me forget ihad a problem. I love the rhythm and everything about it. Ronnie Laws have the beat that make me play this song non stop .
This is the essence of what is now being marketed as 'Smooth Jazz' - yesterday's soft rock/Pop. Ronnie is his Smooth, cool self; confident and deliberate as ever. His improvisation is as original as it is somewhat pensively probative. "Mr. Magic, where have you gone? ... you turn me on..." The guitarist's performance complements his ably with a snaptouch of Eric Gale.
Baddd brother. My dad played him, Grover Washington jr, chuck m, etc on Saturday's. While my brother did GI. Clean up. Ronnie get get down. I still listen to him today😊👍🤗🙏
@KB8Killa gerard Gibbs, and all the musicians are DETROIT born and breed. Ron Otis plays with Earl Klugh and Kem, Carl Holmes on bass plays with all the big names when they come to town, and Perry Hughes is a Master Guitarist, and he is a legend around this town and around the world, all world class musicians......
🎹playa was killin' it on his solo, first thought he was using a vocoder but didn't see a mic nor tube for a heil talkbox So he must gotta "Scat Patch"😆 whatever it was he sho nuff worked it🎯
And who's on keys???? Anyone, please????!!! Those four transition chords at the end of each 8 bars... WHAT?!?!?! Sickness!!!!!! The Take 6 vocal sample patch is OK, but it's those 4 riff transitions chords that are magic!!!!! And the guitar solo is just pure tastiness... As in Mr. Magic!!!
That's me, Gerard Gibbs playing keyboards. I'm glad you enjoyed the performance. Peace and Blessings....
Gerard Gibbs , go on wit' your bad self!
Words can't describe how much your playing get me right
Gerald "Doc" Gibbs???
Enjoyed it throughout

Wow! You can't go wrong with Perry Hughes on guitar.
This is the essence of what is now being marketed as 'Smooth Jazz' - yesterday's soft rock/Pop.
