"Before we leave you, there's a musical message, from the Doctor ... Doctor Gibbs." Oh man, what a message indeed. This song is one of the most significant pieces of my life, ever since. Thank you Grover and your buddies.
Picture this, it’s May 1977 in Philly. You get tickets to this show at the Bijou. You show up and get to experience this live show in person. Maybe in Heaven.
It really is the best live album made. Completely agree! Not over produced, no perfect notes. Nothing but bare soul and energy laid out for all to witness!
😅😅 straight up classics St Louis in the house grew up listen to his music me and my cousin I'm 60 years old and sound just as good now than it did then
It is not the Congo’s, its a cuica it is in the percussion family originated in Brazil It is a drum open ended with a stick stuck to the drum head, and grazed with violin resin and played with a small pice of shammie leather , which makes a noise and the harder you rub the stick the higher the sound by also pressing the top of the drum head.
Well, I’m not black, but I grew up loving Grover Washington Jr! My musical journey is 100% b/c of him. Every bend, every “thuck”, every overbite on the lows, or bend at the tip of my mouthpiece to this day is in emulation of my hero, Grover Washington, Jr..
Grover Washington Jr was one of the true greats of the saxophone. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform in 1992 it was pure magic .R.I.P. Mr Magic. The Late great Grover Washington Jr.
My ol man told me he deejayed back n the gap & when he closed it down, this was his outro anthem. I heard this version 1st & thought it was the original for the longest. Love this version more so than the original. Peace to my pops for cleaning out my ears w good music. Love the era I grew up in.
Whenever I hear this wonderful and timeless music, I thank God for my eldest sister. If it weren't for her buying and listening to this music I would have never been exposed to it. I remember the day she bought this album home. A whole new world opened up for me and I've been in love with it ever since. Thx sis.
Sensationeler Rock-Jazz die beste Version von Mister Magic!! Übrigens hatte ich schon mit 20Jahren als DJ diese Version angespielt ! Die Leute kamen scharenweise zu und fragen was ist dass !! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💃💃💃💃
Indeed it is Iconic. Have a listen once Freddie Hubbards Windjammer Record. The Song "Touch me Baby" the sax is played with such feeling and love. One of my top 100 of all time.
This is the LP that really got me going with Grover. I know when i first checked him was the last cut on a John Handly LP. I mean he blew the whole LP up. John Handly was asked about Grover and all he said was, "cat can blow". Oh i loved them words, cat can blow.
Many "jazz reviewers" thought very little of Grover, thinking he was superficial on technique and talents because his music was mainly Jazz funk (jazz fusion). That was until he blew their socks off with the acoustic sounds of the album--Kenny Burrell & Grover Washington, Jr. - Togethering. Anyone who can post this, please do. It is simply brilliant.
Best Live performance ever! I had the plastic version of the album and recall rocking this after high school everyday! Grover was the best! Why do all the great ones have to die?
Before we leave you, there's a Musical Message, from the Doctor, Dr. Gibbs! The instrument that he plays is called a Quica. It's a Percussion drum like instrument with a stick coming down in the middle. I've always love this song and whole album. Reminds me of when my daughter was born. I was 19 and on a spiritual quest and this album was the sound track of those days. There two Doctors in Philly Dr. J (Julius Ervine) and Dr. Gibbs! Peace and Love
I sure nuff love me some Grover live. The recording version done in the studio is great to listen to an party to as well as the live version. The 70's have some great music back then

Love this album classic always was always will be, so many wannabe players try to copy this great man, who was innovative in everything he did. Saw him in London with pieces of a dream , it was the whole dream , pity there is not a video of this concert.
Saginaw mi in the 10th grade playing this on my 1972 red/ white dodge charger with chrome spokes,3" gangster whitewalls, white t v antenna and half white vinyl roof.
It's like A - D - A - M Prepare your mind, run tell your children Fire, air, water, let the Earth make flesh Now see from the Father, how funky can you get?
Hey Grover 'n Ya'll! Remember what Abba/LAW ' PROPHETS said: "IT'S Dangerous to FORGET!" Now it is IMPERATIVE that the Holy Spirit perform IT'S Task: "CAlling ALL THINGS to Your REMEMBRANCE!" ONE Love! Shalom! Namaste! 🌌🌚🧠🫀🙌
The instrument is called a Quica. It is a Bongo type skin with a wooden stick coming down the middle and he puts his hand inside the bongo and squeezes the stick, with his fingers up and down the stick to make it sing. Peace and Love

"Now there are two doctors in Philly ... Dr. J, and Doctor Gibbs ..."
This is my absolute favorite song, and I'm a trumpet player.
Some real old school blend of funk and jazz , I'm sitting here in another world off this shit and don't want to ever return.
Picture this, it’s May 1977 in Philly. You get tickets to this show at the Bijou. You show up and get to experience this live show in person. Maybe in Heaven.
