this song has always given me a grand earth shattering feeling that i can’t describe. the last 4 minutes are absolute perfection, and i don’t know if it will ever be topped for me. the indescribable beauty and melancholy 🥲 a song for the ages
this song is so dark and painful. the ending gives me goosebumps every time. it reminds me the pain of losing someone i loved and loneliness takes over me as the song progresses.
I actually disagree massively. I love harsh vocals and, obviously, I love clean vocals, but combining the two is awful 99% of the time. But not here. Not here at all. I wouldn't have guessed that these two would combine as they do, but they fucking smash it.
We recorded at Hightower the week after they recorded this. Such an honor. I actually flipped the page of Emma's notes to write my own. Special song, special album, special studio.
Circle down to the mouth of the valley Kneel now down at the face, at the gate As every footfall crumbles so fast beneath me Under the weight of this eternal shame And to you, who've given up in the valley And to you, who've given all to its wake Just another endless nightfall around thee Just another grey landscape to face I want to step into the armour of another, stronger I want to look once through the eyes of someone good So I can gather up the names of our mothers And wash away the shame, and lift them to sainthood But if you have given up in the valley And if you have given all to its wake It's just another endless nightfall around me Just another fucked up thing I can't save Always run, forever miles; does it end? Then another wall rises in the distance Their horizon parts for none Where mothers failed to carry all their weight I will be brave Yeah, I will be brave I feel them Those who have fallen Stacked up like stones in a pile I feel them A tower of failures So twisted and vile You see them there? Ancient and seething Get them out of my way You see them? Those who have fallen Get them out of my way You see them? All of those who have fallen Stacked up like stones in a pile You see them? A tower of failures Get them out of my way You see them? Ancient and seething Twisted and vile You see them? All of those who have fallen Get them out of my way You see them there? A tower of failures Get them out of my way
Emma is wonderful. Had the privilege of talking to her in the club Mochvara before her gig in Zagreb and also hear her live on three other gigs in Budapest, Ljubljana, and London. She is real raw talent and I hope she lives a long creative life.
I must've listened to this 1000 times. so haunting, the rise and fall the lyrics the tempo switches. Transports me to a vivid place and time in my mind. Wonderful
The build up to the ending of this amazing song is why I love music in its purest form songs like this are truly special cause they don’t happen all the time. 🔥🔥💀🤘🤘
@Deborah Meltrozo Have you listened to Zeal And Ardor? They fuse black metal with soul and blues and slave chants. The vocals are very diverse. You have the typical black metal screams but also soulful clean vocals, ominous crooning and everything in between. They're a very interesting band

Great colaboration, its amazing how her voice fits the decaying and trembling sound of thou. Incredibly captured and transfered both the artist and the band sound in a perfect mix. Outstanding.
This song just confirms how depression and anxiety can be so perpetually crippling. And for some of us this internal turbulence becomes an entity in itself and you can't seem to rid it no matter how hard you try. So we befriend it. Embracing the darkness rather than running and hiding. There's no escaping this benign masochism. Emma said it best "Circle down to the mouth of the valley. Kneel now down at the face, at the gate. As every footfall crumbles so fast beneath me. Under the weight of this Eternal Shame. And to you who've given up in the Valley. And to you who've given all to its wake. Just another endless night falls around thee. Just another grey landscape to face. I want to step into the armor of another, stronger. I want to look once through the eyes of someone good. So I can gather up the names of our mothers. And wash away the shame and lift them to sainthood. But if you have given up in the valley. And if you have given all to its wake. Just another endless nightfall around me. Just another fucked up thing I can't save..."
At the heart of depression and anxiety is abuse and intergenerational trauma, which is why I think she also speaks in the end to overcoming: "You see them? All those who have fallen Stacked up like stones in a pile You see them? A tower of failures Get them out of my way" As someone who has been doing trauma therapy for months now, that's how I read this song. Then I queue up the live version of "No Dog" by Esben and the Witch.
I just discovered this about four hours ago while working an overnight shift. The first f****n' 45 seconds completely captivated every ounce of my being. Now I am unable to stop listening to it 🌟
This song is incredible. I haven’t listened to something so strong like these guitar lines and vocals in years. Better than most of the doom metal songs out there. This album will save this year 🤍
I think the background vocalizing is so ethereal and ghost like. Beautiful and sad but gives me all the chills. The slow build in the end is quite powerful and aggressive!
This is my favorite track from the album. The buildup is beautiful and when Bryan’s singing comes in for the “get them out of my way” part is absolutely epic.
Fucking hell. Immediately on loop and album pre-ordered. Incredible, beautiful piece of work. First thing I've heard in months that gave me that feeling in my gut of "(un)holy shit, this is awesome"
Yorkshire Dave, I discovered this four hours ago while working an overnight shift. After hearing the first 45 seconds of this beautiful art my response was exactly that of your gut feeling that you typed in quotes 👍🌟
I just discovered her today.....I was listening to Deafheaven and the algorithm ended up on her stuff....same record company? Anyways she’s amazing and is surrounded by great talent as well...She has the most subtle folk vibe in her stuff, and her lyrics are vivid and real...every song is different, I love this....sorry I’m excited
gGOD OF MUSIC Emma condenses her soul into sound expressions that sculpt beautiful environmental reflections capable of meaninglessly falling in love, drawing us into her emotional embraces shaking our naked senses that attract us to infinity...... Who else has this gem on repeat? I swear I've heard this song like 30 times already. It's sooooo damn good.
same, friend
I seriously can't stop listening to this.
I've been listening for a whole week now. Can't wait for the album.
I hope they do a whole album together
@Drew French
They did.
You can't go wrong with Emma Ruth Rundle.
DAMN RIGHT
this song has always given me a grand earth shattering feeling that i can’t describe. the last 4 minutes are absolute perfection, and i don’t know if it will ever be topped for me. the indescribable beauty and melancholy 🥲 a song for the ages
This is the best thing this constant dumpster fire of a year has given us.
True Jaime Diaz-Otero Núñez
Agreed. It's a thing of beauty.
Absolutely.
Honestly, the only two good things from 2020 were this and another song by Emma that came out a while ago.
Amen
I can't stop playing it. To place Thou deeper in the mix was a good move. A victory for all .This song is brilliant!
this song is so dark and painful. the ending gives me goosebumps every time. it reminds me the pain of losing someone i loved and loneliness takes over me as the song progresses.
Just lost my grandma, then my girlfriend of three years broke up with me the day after her funeral. This music is seriously helping.
I will never not get goosebumps while hearing cleans and harsch vocals layered ontop of eachother. 10/10!!!
What if theyre REALL awful and out of tune. Would you get goosebumps still?
@@UnclePhillyMyAss Probably. Luckily this isn't the case here

Whoa man. That's legitimately incredible. Most won't know cool that is, but we do
It seems like this song has been dipped in the ocean before being released. You get the "swimming among high waves" feeling. So cool.
Yup calm before the storm vibes

Seemed like I traveled the valley to find this lyrics comment. God damn. And thank you.
I can't even believe these lyrics, this song, wtf. Incredible 😮

Sretnica:)
That feeling at 6:58 when my soul re-enters my body when Thou vocals kick in. Bless. I needed this today.
KICKED ME!
Unbelievable
For serious I just told my buddy - 7 minute mark 🔥🔥🔥, it on Ancestral Recall it hits in less than 45 seconds, it's pure gold
This song really hit the feels like a fucking F-5 so damn good can’t wait to hear it live someday
Blessed be the day

Hell yes! Wonderful sense of build, dynamics and atmosphere in this beautiful art 🌟
Saw her live yesterday... Her voice sounds absolutely out of this world, what an atmosphere she creates.... Pure art 🖤
Where did you see her, please? Was it her alone, her with band?
I didn't know you could headbang and cry at the same time, but they somehow managed it. Those lyrics struck with me.
there is something about adding clean female vocals to atmospheric sludge metal that just works
@Deborah Meltrozo the lyrics can be great but it's the cookie monster vocals 1000% that can bring down the impact of the thing
I think Bryan has a beautiful voice.
@Deborah Meltrozo Have you listened to Zeal And Ardor? They fuse black metal with soul and blues and slave chants. The vocals are very diverse. You have the typical black metal screams but also soulful clean vocals, ominous crooning and everything in between. They're a very interesting band
@Deborah Meltrozo Try Altar of Plagues. Mammal.
I am sick of repeating vocals don't have gender🤬😠 gendering does not represent musician's individuality
This song is stuck in my head. It's what I go to sleep, and wake up to. Such beauty.
Emma proving once again her prowess and pure talent. What an incredible collaboration/ brilliantly crafted song.
Yep. Great sense of build and dynamics in this beautiful art.

Первая половина песни божественная. Никогда не устану переслушивать. 💙💙💙💙💙
One of the best albums of the recent years, and the Valley one of the most chilling songs.
Emma & Thou are the best metal group for your dollar
Oh boy, this is even better than Ancestral Recall, magic.
This masterpiece is just one of the best songs ever created, damn
One of the most amazing songs I've ever heard. Keep coming back to it. Perfection
I just discovered this about four hours ago while working an overnight shift. The first f****n' 45 seconds completely captivated every ounce of my being. Now I am unable to stop listening to it 🌟
Masterpiece ...The whole project.....
This song is incredible. I haven’t listened to something so strong like these guitar lines and vocals in years. Better than most of the doom metal songs out there. This album will save this year 🤍
the most aesthetic song I've heard this year
Quite simply one of the best collaborations I've ever heard. Soulful, beautiful, and brutal when it matters most. Amazing.
I started listening to this song yesterday and played it so much that I’ve already memorized it
Thou can do no wrong, Thou shall go forth and conquer
Go forth, be conquered, go forth and die (in the wake of The Valley)
just incredible
this sound touched a part of my brain that i didn't know existed....very beautiful song.
i liked it enough to buy the Album.. i love ERR so it collides w Thou
Best song I heard in a long time!

Goosebumps on my skin. Thank you.
This is definitely one of my favourite songs of the year .
Wooooo got actual goosebumps when the end kicks in! Amazing!
for me one of the top5 songs at the moment...A W E S O M E

The cover really draw me in.

Pretty standard for atmospheric post-metal/post-rock too, which is pretty much what this song is
This song is insane!
The whole album this is off of is really good, but this song really stands above the others.
This is excellent
