I've been listening to Rock, metal, doom, thrash, black metal and all that shit since I was like 13. I always thought I was listening to very dark and unsettling music but once I came across Swans I got the unshakable feeling of overwhelming darkness in every single one of their songs. The lyrics really strike like a fucking knife right into your soul. Goddamn it.

yeah first album I heard by them 1998 pre psychologically fuct me up after listening dropped 3 hits of blodder bad trip mirrors and scissors soundtracks for thee blind but you are more fucked up than me let me give you one example
I always found Dennis Nilsen (the guy this song is about) an especially "gothic" sort of person and an incredibly "gothic" song is the perfect thing to tell his story. -- The song, itself, is very spooky, morbid, sad, creepy and yet... weirdly beautiful in a strange, sick sort of way. -- Nilsen was a man so utterly lonely that he lost his marbles for a bit and started killing guys so they could be like "Real Dolls". He craved a relationship but couldn't keep real ones with living people. Like Jeffrey Dahmer, he craved companionship and yet was incapable of it... to have those two opposing things and not be able to handle it is a tragic state to be in. Add the fact that both were necrophiles and... well... you get two sick puppies who murdered guys so they could have corpses for boyfriends. -- Both Nilsen and Dahmer were pitiful. Their crimes were monstrous, but they were pitiful.
I ruined this track for myself. Or made it better. Can't decide. Either way most definitely a highlight within the discography of Swans to say the least. The opening of this track is one of my favorite musical moments of all time. The song might be my favorite song of all time. I love Swans. Such a great band. Thank you Mr. Gira!
