+Zeedware Fighting wise, it's always looked great. But casual movement, even just walking, was stiff and awkward. They fixed it by Volume 3, everything is much more fluid.
If there's one thing I wish could have been used more in Blake's fights through the series, it would be the whip feature of her Gambol Shroud. Moves like at 2:15 and 3:40 are just so pleasing to the eyes, and look damaging/viable. Later on, she only really uses the ribbon for mobility for herself or team-mates, or that one tripwire in the Vytal Festival fight, which is fine, but after seeing motions like that, I guess I'm a bit spoiled and want to see more.
I like how after Adam destroys the first robot, they all just look at each other and go "Well, it would be unsporting to bring miniguns to a knife fight. Sword arms it is then."
That moment when you realize that (S3 Spoiler) Cinder didn't want to piss this guy off untill she got at least half of the Fall Maiden's power. Speaks volumes about how powerful Adam is.
I never actually noticed that, but that is so true. I really don't think Cinder would have won if she had fought Adam when they first met. She would have had her head caught off before she could even pull her bow and arrow out. The guy could probably have taken on the entire Grimm invasion by himself and won.
Kent Hefele And? As far as we can tell Adam's semblance allows him to basically absorb and attack through his sword and return it, as shown in the Black Trailer. Making it much like Yangs, just less risky. Seeing as to how poorly she actually is in combat I kind of doubt Cinder would of had a real chance against him. You can argue that her beating Pyhrra who is seen as unstoppable as a feat proving this, but Pyhrra is in a major disadvantage against some one who uses no weapons or armor. Blake on the other hand blocked/absorbed a energy beam. That is quite a bit worst than fire.
The closest Adam has ever gotten to being as badass as this is in his other newer trailer. And even that is a bit of a stretch. He didnt even do what i used to call his "signature sinister moonslice laugh" with the screen going dark and everything. I mean they got the red screen down that one time but thats just it
They avoid her because her fighting isn't as bombastic or flashy as Yang or Weiss 😒😒😒 Honestly this trailer shows that her fighting can be just as good but they must really hate Blake fights now for some reason. Maybe it's partially because she fights with ribbons and moves super fast? That's hard to animate sure, but so is Yang and Weiss' semblance, especially now that they've switched to maya. And yet they like having them fight the most... Honestly, Blake hasn't had a good fight since Volume 2 and they've neglected Ruby a fair amount as well. Ruby hasn't gotten a good fight scene since the Volume 4 trailer
I think it has to do with her semblance, the shadow clone thing. While it’s not super unique, it allows for some pretty cool animation tricks I imagine. Parts where a not so fluid motion might not be as jarring because we understand what her ability is. I feel like that allows for some pretty cool tricks for animation. Monty, however was a master when it came to animation and I imagine a lot of the ideas in his mind were very unique to him and not easy to replicate m. Hard to see someone else envisioning how to use it the way he did. RIP.
Yeah, nobody can replace what Monty was capable of doing. They're getting better at it as time goes by, which is heartening to see, but no one will ever have that same flair Monty brought to a fight scene.
@@ShakeyMac18 Rooster Teeth has no talented choreograph genius like Monty Oum. Ever since he died, the company animation was left in shambles on how to deal the 7 volumes that wasn't yet handled by Monty. Volume 3 was the last choreograph animation that the great writer and animator managed to showcased in the public. He knows that the studio want the animation to be better than the last time. He kinda has no problem with that beside just him wanna keep the choreography style fitted in the animation. He only given some drafts with the latest volumes. Without him on the latest schedules, the combat and fights becomes lesser and became cliches, dupes and pathetic to look at.
I don't know why but Weiss is significantly weaker than Ruby. Ruby can take out an army of Grimm all by herself in both trailers and in the story. Weiss' aura gets one-shot by everything [unlike Ruby who has a surprisingly tanky aura that pretty much never breaks] and struggles with beowolves in her second trailer. Loses every 1v1 if she can't get her summons up. And wins every 1v1 if she can, which is like two wins or something. And it takes her like 10 seconds of praying to the sword to get her Gigas up. But both are a lot stronger now in the 'Penny is winter maiden arc': Ruby can do instant silver eyes and Weiss summons way faster now. So I'm glad Weiss finally got a buff after losing so many fights.
The weird thing is that in these Trailers EVERYONE except for Ruby has a VERY challenging opponent. And that follows the series in that Ruby still hasn't had a long long fight scene...
I miss the time when all we had was these trailers. There was so much mystery, so much to be explored with this universe, so much to speculate on. I miss the time when we knew nothing, the time when I was salivating for more of this series that I was so hype for.
I just saw the bird fly out of the tree when they stopped running out of the forest, and as an afterthought, I mumbled "That's SO Raven." And then I crumbled in my chair from the realization. Yes , both of them.
Honestly. What happened to the fight scenes? They used to be so well made, badass, creative, exciting to see, and they aren't the same. Don't get me wrong I still love Rwby and the Crwby but, I feel like they're starting to forget Monty's vision. I mean look at the red trailer and compare that to one of the new fight scenes Ruby has. It's not the same. They need to remember his vision and passion. No matter what though, Rwby will forever be in my heart. Thank you Monty
People don't have the same creativity as Monty, don't forget he excels in fight scenes not stories, and RWBY doesn't really have a solid story in the first place. But hey in V6 just have hope!
@@thatrainbowquickie8395 Monty vision form of anime writing. His american friends and workers haven't have that kind of passion towards an actual anime fights?
@@rogueascendant6611 It's a tricky style. Monty probably took huge amounts of inspiration from fighting games, and he had years of experience animating fight scenes just like this in Dead Fantasy and Red vs Blue. Also, the Black Trailer was done with Shane Newville, the other lead animator (There were two, Monty and Shane). But for some reason, he was sacked at the end of volume 3. (Monty's personal friend).
Can we all talk about how Adam could've easily stopped Blake from cutting the train? He was already at the edge of it. Blake gave a three second stare, said goodbye, grabbed her sword, stared a little more then slowly cut the train.
I think if Adam attempted to jump towards Blake or tried to stop the cut Blake would've skipped the goodbye and quickly cut the train off. Just my thought
@@yinghsi1207 But then he could just jump onto her car and they would just awkwardly stare at each other. Like if Blake used something to tie him to the other car in some way it would have worked.
+Ryan Webster There isn't exactly any confirmation on the shapeshifting being his semblance. Its perfectly possible that is the cased, but it could also be something else entirely, especially since he and his sister both have a bird motif. Maybe they're some kind of special Faunus or something.
It all went downhill when they made him say “my love” and “I will destroy everything you’ve ever loved” Like they forgot he said “forget her” when his lieutenant said they’ll try to find Blake
This trailer was always my favorite. I remember being so excited to watch this series all those years ago! Thank you Monty for everything. RIP Rooster Teeth
@@BlinkingRapidly The problem is we never SAW her get stronger, and don't forget that just because we spent almost a decade growing, doesn't mean the characters have. I don't know if even two years on Remnant have passed in that time.
Now that I think of it, Adam may be my favorite villain in RWBY. He wasn't born a villain, he was made one. He like many faunas suffered a great deal of racism and subjugation. Adam grew to believe that humanity will never accept faunas as equal to humans, so he plans to wipe out humanity so that the faunas race can start a new life and not live in fear. Unfortunately, he lets his vengeance get the best of him. He is like the Magneto of RWBY. So I hope the team behind RWBY expand on Adam's character in the future, maybe even have a redemption story; where in some situation he sacrifices his life to save Blake and her friends.
I don't think any of the characters were born a villain, we don't really know the back stories of the villains yet but in the song sacrifice you can see that cinder used to be good but turned evil. once we learn more about the other characters we'll probably see the same thing going on

@@assirla100 the story is decent, but it's not what RWBY was intended to be. It isn't Monty's RWBY anymore, it's RT's RWBY and let's just say there's a reason most of the original RT people have quit because they don't like what the studio has turned into

@@ICantThinkOfAFunnyHandle It might not have ever been Monty's RWBY, the trailers have absolutely nothing to do with what the show was. The tone, world, characters, atmosphere, everything took itself more seriously in the trailers while still being fun and insanely cool. Then the writing of S1 toned everything down, they made it the most generic anime-girls-train-to-fight-monsters plot imaginable where most of the focus is on jokes and adding more and more characters instead of fighting monsters or developing a compelling narrative. @@ICantThinkOfAFunnyHandleyeah you're just wrong. Number one, Monty, Kerry, and Miles all worked on the writing together. The series was just Monty's brainchild. Miles and Kerry still do the writing. And second, Monty had plans for the story written ahead that they followed. So in reality what you're watching past season 2 is still from Monty's writing. Animation has gotten better, story is more thorough and enjoyable, fight choreography has recovered and even improved. What you think is the series getting worse was in reality Monty's plan for the plot change into something more serious.

+Captain Butch Flowers Agent Florida +Captain Butch Flowers Agent Florida even if he does I doubt some fans will forgive him for what he did to yang ( and by some fans I mean me )
You know what's funny? I marathoned this whole series in a day, so I never thought Adam would turn out to be a good guy. The only Adam I knew was the Volume 3 Adam, not the misunderstood character everyone speculated he would be.
+Connor Duquette For me, the story was slightly different. I first met Adam here at this trailer. I saw a potentially powerful ally in both Blake and him. Their fighting skills would make them near unstoppable, and I was looking forward to seeing Adam kick more villain butt in the future- until he disappeared. For the entirety of Volume 1-2, I was trying to find him. Granted, most of my energy was spent rooting for the newly formed Team RWBY, but occasionally, thoughts of Adam floated through my mind. I found him, alright: At the end of Volume 2's last episode, I saw him standing with Cinder's crew, and I knew all hope of Adam turning good was impossible. My suspicions were confirmed during the Battle of Beacon a few chapters later (and right before a severe heartbreak), when I met the Adam you did first. And to this very day, I despise him.
Brandon Rog I know. You're not alone in that. In fact, I suspect a majority of the fans had similar thoughts. But since I never had to wait between episodes, I never speculated. Adam was always a bad guy to me.
+Connor Duquette I somehow knew Adam would turn bad. There already were too many heroes for Adam to join the ranks. I at least hoped he'd turn neutral, be a brooding antihero that clashed with the Heroes at least every now and again. But the moment he slashed my favorite character's arm clean off.... GRRRRRRRRR..... Just thinking about it makes me angry!
The new models could look good if they actually bothered to give them texture + There's something about the eyes in the new models that don't look as good as the old models.
Okay, let's compare and contrast, here... *Adam:* Black and red color scheme, an opened-up rose insignia on his back, red highlights in his hair, rose petal-like effects during his ultimate attack, and his weapon is a close-ranged blade (katana; meant for up close, personal confrontation) inside a relatively close-ranged firearm (shotgun). *Ruby:* Red and black color scheme, a closed rose as her insignia, red highlights in her hair, rose petal-like effects whenever she attacks, and her weapon is a relatively long-reaching blade (scythe; it's long handle makes it impractical for real close-quarter combat) inside of a long-range firearm (sniper). .... WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!!!!
From Monty Oum and the RWBY wiki: Despite this resemblance to Ruby, Monty Oum has stated that the two are not related, and the difference between them being "the scatter and the wilt.
+Jonathan Backo This was the plan, actually. Weiss mentions that an entire train of dust was stolen, and the cargo on this train has her family's logo on it. Pretty obvious that this was the train they stole.
So much of the flavour of rwby was lost when we lost Monty. His sense of rhythm in choreography from the first 3 seasons made fights so much of a spectacle. Everything season 4 onwards feels like it's lost its sense of self when it comes to fights or even just the writing in general. Recent seasons feel so detached from what made rwby shine.
Not just in the trailers but seemingly trough the whole series. And the camera is shifting to it suspiciously often. That has to be some major foreshadowing...
@@xsirenflyx I may be reading into it too much, but to me, it looked like the moon is actually returning to its original form. Mayhaps it's the rotation, but it looks often as if the pieces are bring drawn to the rest of the planet, mayhaps meaning the prophesied day, when the relics are brought together and mankind is judged by the gods? I mean, they did destroy it, when they left remnant, so....who knows?
The Adam in Black trailer is so cool and badass and I like how he turned to Blake to see if she's okay when she was hit by the robot at 3:13. That just showed how he cared for her. I love the scenes, the music from peaceful to hype with a little bit of sadness in it, and how Blake left Adam at the end... Ever since I was eager to see stories between Adam and Blake. But what I see is how RT has ruined the character, making him looked like a obsessive brainless whiny ex boyfriend that only cares for himself. And now finally RT decided to shut him off the show by giving him an insignificant death. Sigh, RIP Adam. The cool and mysterious you in this trailer will always be missed.
Exactly! Adam was a very grey character, you wanted to hate him for the horrible things he did, but you could seriously understand with him LITERALLY being branded like an animal by humans.
"Ruined his character" You mean gave him a character. Before volume 3 there was nothing there aside from whatever was formed in the headcanons of the fans. People didn't like Adam, they liked the OCs they created from his name and image and grew disappointed CRWBY didn't use them for the actual character.
@Daviator el Quesillo Blake only mentions Adam in volume 2 and she describes him as a monster that hates equality. They planned for Adam to be this way from the very start.
Well Adams weapon is pretty similar to Samuel's weapon from Metal Gear Rising. And the glock katana is nothing new, the concept has made an appearance before.
Ogknav Wouldn't call it a katana, heck I'd be circumspect to call it a kodachi, it's onesided with a hook is more similar to a Turkish scimitar if anything.
"Your hopes have become my burden. I will find my own liberation..." Maybe this is Blake saying that she doesn't believe in Adam's beliefs anymore and wishes to seperate herself from him to find out what was the right thing to do. (S3 SPOILER) When Blake and Adam meet again, she points out how everything he was doing was wrong, and his ideals weren't what Blake wanted from the White Fang.
I love this trailer because it has meaning to it, whereas the others are just a mere display of skill sort of. this trailer not only displays blakes skill, but it also show her past. by far best of the trailers
I do admit that the fighting isn't as "spectacular" since Monty left us but I still think it's pretty great. People can complain or criticize all they want but Monty was just on another level that not too many people can match and finding another person like him would be pretty hard. - I do wish they kept the original art style though
That’s a common misconception though Monty had a close team of freinds who could match his style. Pyrrahs epic training room fight was done by someone other then Monty. Rt dropped the ball.
Okay so I know this is about Blake's backstory but like I would have preferred to see more blake being badass and less red head dude considering this is her trailer lol
I understand what you're saying and I do agree. It would have been nice to see Blake's fighting abilities showcased by herself and have Adam appear at the end of the trailer, so we could see what she was truly made of.. Although, the character interaction WAS nice at the time considering Blake probably had the least amount of dialogue from Team RWBY in volume 1.
JameboHayabusa Yes yesss exactly. Like the other girls got to kick ass in their trailers, whereas Blake actually has to get her butt saved by a dude in hers. I mean she still kicks ass but still :/ Yeah the one thing I did like more about volume 2 was we actually get to see the girls talking to each other more.
In all fairness and honesty, he is a big part of her story. And also her and his attacks were very well coordinated. So when she leaves him he fighting style changes. See has a fighting style that is hard to be alone with. Also Adam (Red and brown haired dude) comes back in season 2, if you haven't watched it.
Watching this trailer again and later seasons (4-8), makes me almost believe someone at RT intentionally sabotaged the show in favor of weird writing and relationships. So much lost potential with earlier characters and plot.
I don't think it was intentional sabotouge. but the team was embracing fan ships as early as season 1-2 The Strat names Ruby calls out in the fight against torchwig in an atlas mec are all ship names. so this was inevitable
I actually like Adam. I mean he's relatable. It's natural to go mad when you've been discriminated, tortured, and abandoned. Not saying it gives him the right, and I don't blame Blake at all. It's just that I can't hate him. In fact it makes me like him more. It's hard to describe, but Adam is easily in my top five characters
DAMN! I thought the lyrics were just good poetry, but after the revelation of Episode 15 and Weiss mentioning the train hijacking... The song has a much deeper meaning. It's how the Faunus were just trying to casually go about their days, but their differences made humans discriminate them and when the Faunus were shoved to the cliff, they started fighting back. Clever Monty, very clever.
I listened to this song again after ep15 and honestly, it all made sense. They talk about how the Faunus are treated as less and the video matches with what Blake says about the White Fang, FORESHADOWING!! I kinda want to see this Adam guy come back though
Looking back at the old trailers, I really miss the trailers form of fighting style in the show. The crisps, sharp, weighted, well-themed, unique weapons, tight choreographed fight scenes. Now, there are barely a shadow of what there were. Thank you for the good memories RWBY. RIP Monty.
Ammo trigger boost, gone. High speed combat, gone. Weapon morph, gone. Slick and crispy camera movement, gone. I wish I can see RWBY in trailer quality instead of current rwby.
My favorite of the original 4 trailers; I feel like the Love, Death + Robots segment "Blind Spot" had to have taken some inspiration from this and the whole awesome robot action on a moving train schtick.
So, I already saw this like 10 times, but now I was finally thinking while watching this. "I'll set the charges" "What about the crew members?" "What about them?" That Blake look after Adam's response... I think this is the time when he realised that leaving him and the White Fang is right and she really doesn't wanna be part of what they do. Like she knew that before but I suppose this was her final question...
Eli Hill Nah...It fits better with a Hack & Slash idea with basic RPG elements, instead of a RPG based on turns like the old school, but the girls has a shitload of movements that fits very well with the genre Hack & Slash like "Sengoku Basara", instead of tedious action you get fast and aggresive action...Actually a fighting game seems nice too like "Naruto Storm" style...
That’s everyone at this point god if she stuck with Adam or atleast tried to fix/help him I wonder if she would’ve been a more likable character we’re all used to her usual so now it’s just annoying
Two things I don't get about this trailer: This took place when Blake was still in the white fang, so why isn't she wearing a grim mask? Also, Its not like Blake is trying to hide that she is a fonis in this trailer, so why is she still wearing the bow? (Also does anyone else think Blake sounds British when she says "okay" at the start of the trailer?) Regardless this trailer is still amazing.
That just shows how awesome Blake is, since Adam kind of took the 'look like a monster' and turned it into 'become a monster', and is probably the most hated person.
Almost 6 years ago now....man....I feel old. It's also sad to see how far Rooster Teeth has fallen in that time....... RIP Monty, I wish your vision was the one we truly got to see.
Damn, Adam went through a fighting regression in Volume 5. Actually, you know what, the fight scenes and the way characters fight went through a regression.

Its funny how in the last four volumes Blake has never even come close to being animated as well as she is in this. Its so sad.
Admittedly that could be said for the other three vol as well.
They avoid her because her fighting isn't as bombastic or flashy as Yang or Weiss 😒😒😒
Honestly this trailer shows that her fighting can be just as good but they must really hate Blake fights now for some reason.
@@mittenvonscrufflears7233 isn't maya like their third animation software now?
Monty Oum is just good at making Blake and no one knows how to animate her on the current volumes
RIP.
The old fight style/choreography used to be so good that it actually makes them look weaker in the current volumes.
@@rogueascendant6611 truer words have never been said
I don't know why but Weiss is significantly weaker than Ruby.
True, this was my favorite trailer because of that. Best cat girl... period

The weird thing is that in these Trailers EVERYONE except for Ruby has a VERY challenging opponent. And that follows the series in that Ruby still hasn't had a long long fight scene...
Id say V3E11 against Roman and Neo(where she only won by tricking Neo and with luck against Roman with the grimm eating him)
Kyle Marsh But the spiderbot is still a challenging opponent.
Ludvig SC Games they're saving up for the BIG one.
If you consider a Fall Maiden that could go at it with Ozpin a challenging opponent, Ruby did one-shot Cinder lol.
Its almost as though her /very/ challenging opponent(s) are the grim themselves, or rather, Salem.
I miss the time when all we had was these trailers. There was so much mystery, so much to be explored with this universe, so much to speculate on. I miss the time when we knew nothing, the time when I was salivating for more of this series that I was so hype for.

Monty's vision is what is missing: The animation is based on an animation director's choreography.
@@thatrainbowquickie8395 Monty vision form of anime writing. His american friends and workers haven't have that kind of passion towards an actual anime fights?
@@rogueascendant6611 It's a tricky style. Can we all talk about how Adam could've easily stopped Blake from cutting the train? He was already at the edge of it. Blake gave a three second stare, said goodbye, grabbed her sword, stared a little more then slowly cut the train.
Adam was still able to compartmentalize his feelings back then. Once Blake sided with the enemy was when Adam lost it.
I think it's also because he's torn between getting the dust and getting Blake, and choosing the dust instead

Brandon Rog
For me, he never was.

I mean she still kicks ass but still :/
Yeah the one thing I did like more about volume 2 was we actually get to see the girls talking to each other more.
In all fairness and honesty, he is a big part of her story. And also her and his attacks were very well coordinated. So when she leaves him he fighting style changes. Watching this trailer again and later seasons (4-8), makes me almost believe someone at RT intentionally sabotaged the show in favor of weird writing and relationships. So much lost potential with earlier characters and plot.

RWBY needs a game :D choose one of the four and play from their origin trailer up until they become huntresses.
Epic idea. Could use an online RPG based off of it too.
indeed :) the whole concept of RWBY would easily fit a game anyways with the almost constant plot points.
How about a hack and slash PEG where you get to customize your own team or play with friends
Tag Man that could work too. but i was thinking player customerization would be better for online multiplayer or something.
Trailer: Wow, Blake is so cool and likable.
V1-V3: Mysterious... she’s awesome!
V4-V7: *rolls eyes*
That’s everyone at this point god if she stuck with Adam or atleast tried to fix/help him I wonder if she would’ve been a more likable character we’re all used to her usual so now it’s just annoying
@@JohnCena-xu3jr Don't speak for everyone lol I am not included in that bunch.
Divine Dragon It was like a joke over exaggerated what I mean by everyone is a large group of ppl also adding lol does not make it feel friendly
You can't keep a character mysterious forever. Eventually you have to either show what's underneath, or admit that there *isn't* anything underneath.
@@EbonyManta u completely missed the point
This never gets old, i loved when this was a small fan base and they uploaded and worked a lot more on the actual show
Two things I don't get about this trailer: This took place when Blake was still in the white fang, so why isn't she wearing a grim mask? Also, Its not like Blake is trying to hide that she is a fonis in this trailer, so why is she still wearing the bow? (Also does anyone else think Blake sounds British when she says "okay" at the start of the trailer?) Regardless this trailer is still amazing.
I think it's because the animators wanted no spoilers.
Let's just take a moment to realize Adam has a sword with a scabbard that doubles as a shotgun.
What the hell
And let's not mention that Peter Port has a blunderbuss axe? Which may just be one of the worst weapons ever designed from a logical standpoint.
Let's just take a moment to realize that Adam is a male RT character that isn't meant for comic relief either.
Cole Gardner
What about York? He was meant for feels...
TLB95Switchblade
the fact that he fights monsters with that make has no trouble makes him a total badass.
Wither and Blush, and yes, that sheath IS a gun, he literally fired the sword to bounce off the robot's head.
Anyone else see that red sword with the trigger scabbard and think of the High Frequency Murasama?
THANK YOU!
+Sasuke Uchiha and i just now realised im talking to sasuke
+The_Finn_Gamer *snores* PANCAKES!
+Sasuke Uchiha coincidence? sasuke talking about a red sword which is a katana, Lol it's an obvious one
Mind if I cut in?
Here after Volume 6 episode 12 ... can't believe my dude is gone
They did Adam so dirty a lot of ppl dropped the show. It's disgusting how badly RWBY deteriorated after V3.
My opinion: this is the best trailer.
That just shows how awesome Blake is, since Adam kind of took the 'look like a monster' and turned it into 'become a monster', and is probably the most hated person.
You know I gotta agree with you it showed the back story of three characters
Anyone notice how the moon gets progressively shattered more and more in each trailer?
Oh Adam...
You just were too good to this show...
Now you are with Monty in a good place...
@MightyPictures lol
I just remember how Blake was reading "Dr Jekkyl and Mr Hyde" and is so accurate to Adam.
Reasons to realize Adam was one of the most powerful villain. That Semblance is way to overpowered to know that the robot disintegrated into nothing
Adam my dude, you had so much potencial. How dirty they handled your character should be a crime.
Yup
Almost 6 years ago now....man....I feel old. It's also sad to see how far Rooster Teeth has fallen in that time....... RIP Monty, I wish your vision was the one we truly got to see.
Damn, Adam went through a fighting regression in Volume 5. Actually, you know what, the fight scenes and the way characters fight went through a regression.
Master Vidxad 58
Everything got worst. fighting, characters, plot, animation... (In my opinion)
