Actually, the creative team has said that that was their biggest regret and that if they could, they wouldn't have done that. But they had to because of budget reasons
+Brandon Jinjiyoshi Tilley my uncle has a chicken coup with two ducks in it. he has 5 roosters, and they all pick on and practically bully the ducks. sometimes, the hens step in and protect the ducks. I dunno, maybe they are racist, lol!
I can understand why Ilia hates humans. Her parents died in that explosion and her human "friends" laughed at their death. Even if you didn't know they were her parents, who laughs at something like that? This is the first time we've actually been shown how deep the racism runs in this universe, and it really is starting to make sense why they go to such drastic measures.
I agree, but I actually think racism is only a small part of why her "friends" laughed. It's not just that they're different in terms of race, but in terms of class. Ilia's parents were menial laborers, the low people on the totem pole. You know, the people some of the "higher" ups like to pick on to justify their "superiority". It's like with Cardinal's bullying. Sure, he bullied Velvet for being a faunus, but he also bullied Jaune (Not a faunus). Cardinal bullies anyone he can. He uses people's differences (e.i. race) to fuel his insults. He's looking for any reason, not just race, to put his target down. Cardinal is a racist, but he's a bully first, if that makes any sense.
When do they, by which I assume you mean the characters in RWBY as a whole, talk down about Faunus? Disregarding Cardin and his team, Roman, Emerald, and Mercury, who are the villains and do nothing but bad things to everyone all the time. When have we ever seen someone talk down to or about the Faunus besides Weiss? Who while not justified, had an understandable reason to hate the White Fang and distrust Faunus. Note she didn't hate Faunus she hated the White Fang. Other than her, we have seen zero examples of negative talk towards Faunus until this short.
William Timms- That's a very good point. I just assumed that there was different levels of racism in different places. It was the only way that I could justify Blake's reluctance to reveal her cat ears when most people actually seemed like they would be very chill about the subject. I thought "Hmm...she must've come from a land with a much higher racial tension".
Joseph Burger Volume 4 was a well written and important part of the story, we needed it to slow down a little after everything that happened in volume 3, and volume 4 helped to adjust us to the series having a darker tone from here forward. I'm sure Volume 5 will pick up the pace again though. Btws, as a Halo fan, I completely agree with your assessment. We need Bungie back.
I think that's the point, for her entire time in the white fang it seems like the chameleon girl was her best friend and the person she looked up to the most.
She's TERRIFYING! The smile when she says "I broke their teeth" chilled me. The color scheme is some batshit intimidating kefka bullshit. We have a new Neo-like psycho evil badass woman.
Blake's moral compass has been compromised. I get why people say she hasn't had any character development is because she's experiencing a stump. She's run back home, hoping to escape some of it, but it backfires on her when the White Fang still come for her and Sun. I pity Blake truthfully as a character because she's torn between fighting for her friends against people she once called friends. Sure, Blake should be enraged that White Fang attacked her friends, murdered Pyrrha and blew up the school but I guess she feels small in the grand scheme of things. She was torn whether her actions would make any difference as things become bigger than they already are. So its definitely a slow burn for her growth arc. Then sweet Sun smacked sense into her and tell her to do something rather than nothing because neglect hurts more than hate. Her story's complicated with the White Fang and her loyalty in question tbh. I curious to how she'll grow out of it, actually because Blake is not an idealist like Ruby. She still doesnt know herself very well so it'll be something to what Blake chooses her decisions in Volume 5.
Samuel Langhus Not enough to out weigh her doubts and fears. She ever called her semblance a cowardly ability. Hiding in her shadow... now that's a metaphor.
Well, these background characters are pretty ugly looking, especially compared to V2-3. Their faces look wonky and they aren't even in the same art style.
ocadioan I really hope so too. You can see the way ilia influenced Blake as a character. Blake probably got the idea to go to beacon while passing as human from her and this adds more depth to her saying "I want people to see me for who I am not what I am" Ilias story shows that many humans can't see past people being Faunus.
Ella Watts If I had to guess, she'll very likely be a key character in "taking back" the White Fang. And if she is... Yeah, I think we'll see much more of her yet.
Ella Watts cause they took inspiration of their own lives and applied aspects to theirs. Experiences from others into a character makes the character more relatable
people regress, life isnt always constantly bettering yourself, blake ran away because she was scared, shes gonna grow more, but the entire point is that they all grow at different rates, theyre children after all, blake running home might be a ''step backwards' for her, but that doesn't mean she's never gonna grow, ruby ran away from home to help people, weiss ran away from home to be herself, blake ran back home to recover, and yangs running away from home to find ruby, they all have completely different lives and goals, but that doesn't mean ones more just than the other.
I remember when vol 4 just ended and now vol 5 is like right around the corner... The feels of having to wait for vol 5 and now being so close already... It's amazing how fast time flies.
THIS RWBY HYPE TRAIN HAS NO BLAKES!!! Love you, Rooster Teeth! Thank you so much for your hard word and dedication. Can't wait for the Volume 5 premiere!
RT did this short the way they did so that we can understand Blakes connection to the White Fang through a positive connection. I mean, so far everyone from the WF have been bad guys. Even Adam. Ilya is someone you can understand a little better, especially if you've ever been someone whose hidden something so they can blend in. Poor kids in rich schools, LGBT kids in some cases, even some immigrant children would understand this. So now you have someone in the WF who you can sympathize with, and understand Blake had friends there she could relate to (in a way she can't with the girls in RWBY). And I think it's important to understand that, when you consider that Blake is suppose to be turning herself into the leader of the WF. Also, why the heck was Blake and Sun tracking that faunus (surely he's not just some random WF lackey)?
How interesting that Ilia blended in with her human friends but they laughed at her and got scared of her when they found out she was a Faunus. That must be why Blake ran from RWY in volume 1 when THEY found out.
Flashback Blake has no belly button, present day Blake does. Nice attention to detail RT. Also first time we see someone's eye color change without them blinking it to change. We watch Ilia's eyes fade between blue and grey the entire time.
Lyrics to song: Show them how you smile, It's only for a while, Take what you need, Leave them to bleed, Let them know bitter, When your revenge is sweet. Sounds more like an Ilia song rather than a Blake song. I guess Blake still doesnt have a solo song.
From Shadows isn't really a Blake song at all. It's Adam/the WF's theme. Blake's image song is actually Wings, believe it or not. That's the song that's used for her scenes in V1.
*You’ll might think that maybe they’re changing* *You’ll pray that their hatred is waning* *That’s when it hurts most to find* *The story unfolds and their cruelty’s exposed* *You’ll be glad your not their kind*
They keep hinting at redemption with Emerald, yet she got couple lines in the last volume. If Illya gets redeemed, it will probably be strung along until 10.
Likely. She only had one "fight" in Volume 4 and it was a simple sparring match with Taiyang, so I'd expect her to get the same treatment Weiss did. We do need to see how she's adapting to only having one gauntlet since her new arm doesn't appear to have any built in weapons.
either that, or a continuation of the vol 2 epilogue, or a flashback to when summer was alive theres not much else that they can show in regards to yang in terms of flashbacks i feel
The Wizard lived in Vale, his gifts now passed on. The cowardly Lion whom resides at Mistral sold out those he was supposed to help. The heartless Tin Man, stationed in Atlas, only cares for victory, no matter the cost. The mindless Scarecrow, in Vacuo, leads the Shade. Edit: I love this community! Instead of fighting like the rest of UA-cam, we're having friendly debates. Thanks to everyone involved!
McZombieFace I always figured Qrow was the "Scarecrow with no brains" because everyone thinks he's stupid (mainly seen in volume 3). And he wouldn't be the leader of Vacuo because he works at Signal Academy (or he used to). I might also be wrong though, because they might want the people 5 people who work at the main 4 academies to be 5 characters from Wizard of Oz.
Dylan Van Leuven I do see your point with Qrow being the scarecrow, however, I personally believe that it's more likely that the headmaster is the scarecrow since Ozpin, Ironwood, and Lionheart all follow their respected characters from Wizard of Oz
McZombieFace I want the headmaster to allude to Dorothy. Because then there will be no confusion on who alludes to who, and all the good Oz characters get an allusion in RWBY. Professor Ozpin: Ozpinhead Glynda Goodwitch: Glynda the good witch of the North Qrow: Scarecrow with no brains Ironwood: Tin-Man with no heart Lionheart: Cowardly Lion Shade Headmaster: Dorothy. The only thing that sets Ozpin apart from everyone else, is that he has the crazy power to continue living (in a sense) and is who knows how many years old. While, the wizard of Oz is also seen as being some crazy wise or powerful person (even if it was fake).
McZombieFace Also, l kinda just want a Female headmaster😂 someone to take charge like Glynda, but actually have FULL authority. So basically Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter
Maybe, but I'd make more sense for bird Faunus to just have bird features. Maybe turning into birds is a trait of Qrow and Ravens sea crest tribe or something, idk.
Renee Salinas, never feel sorry about making one of those jokes/references. I don't, and I make one just about every RWBY Chibi episode. Learn to regret nothing, it's fun.
God I'd love to go to Menagerie, it looks so beautiful and lively, minus the sudden fighting :P Fantastic job guys! You lot keep growing better and better with the visuals and I'm glad we got a better insight on who Ilia is and her ties to Blake. Only one last stop on the V5 Hype Train! :D
No offence RT, but despite this being a BLAKE character short, this kinda felt more of an Illya character short. Still loved the vid, great animation and ost, but still a bit of a nitpick on my half.
Hellwolf 19 I think it helps build up the general fanuas as a group and their ideals and such. It gives some context, still though I want a ililya episode now
It might be the common point of the shorts pre-season this year : we got to know more about winter than about weiss in the previous short I think. It might be about how they react with secondary characters, idk, something like that
A lot of Blake's story is how much she's let other's ideals and creeds knock her off having any sense for what she's willing to fight for, so yeah its an Illya short but I figure it came around to being about Blake the moment she let the fact that it was Illya stop her from pursuing any further
I'm guessing Menagerie is used to inside conflict. Absolutely no one flinched after that gunshot, which means Faunus are treated unfairly even amongst themselves. Although, the same can be true of all races of course. But for it to happen in such a secluded place you can see even more why Blake is so damaged
the delivery of that line... "Don't be. *color change to red* I broke their teeth" Illia reacting to the arrogance of people from Atlas is something we have seen before with Weiss standing up for Vale at the "fundraiser". However, they were afraid of Illia because of their faunist views, and she broke their teeth? Her violent action only made their claims of faunists being uncivilized stronger.
she just learned her parents died, her school friends were laughing about then turned on Ilia when she let it slipped she's a Faunus; in that kind of situation most people would lose it and get violent.
I understand that. She was angry about that and resented their reaction to an unfortunate accident. But it was their rejection of her because she was a faunus that pushed Illia over the edge.
I think I heard that he wrote the story for 9 volumes or so before he passed and maybe some of it was changed my Miles and Kerry but for the most part I think we're sticking with a similar storytelling style.
OMG Ilia (the red-head Faunus) is voiced by the same person as Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail! She's also in Soul Eater, Is This a Zombie?, Sword Art Online, Corpse Party, One Piece, Ouran Highschool Host Club, Magi, Sailor Moon and Erased! Here is her wiki, her name is Cherami Leigh... ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherami_Leigh ).
Untapped Happiness plus Mercury is Sasuke, Ghira is Hoheinheim/Father, Qrow is Ed, and Oscar is Alphonse & Teenage Hoheinheim (FMAB). In addition to that, there's some voice cameos, like how two members of TFS were in the Schnee Party back in Volume 4.
Seems like Blake's trailers are shared with someone else, like it's always Blake and someone else trailer. First it was Blake and Adam, now it's Blake and Ilia. Not a bad thing, just something I (and most likely everyone else) noticed. It might actually be a really good thing since it seems like she gets the most charter development in her trailers then the rest of the team. Edit: It's kinda ironic since she is always pushing people away and thinks she needs to do things alone.
Sketchbook Online I think its because blake relys on people. But when shes all alone she has to run. I mean her semblance is to step out of the fight. Not saying she can't hold her own, just saying shes not a lone wolf. More of a catious cat. Ayyyyyyyyyy pun points.
Silver_Wing15 Blake's motivation is to help people (faunus especially) so you could argue her character and life is more centred around others than herself?
Even her songs with From Shadows being Blake & Adam and Like Morning Follows Night being Blake & Sun. Maybe she'll get one where she's alone when her character development is finally complete.
"There was a notification in the UA-cam mines." "I was on my phone when the news broke." "Apparently RT had posted something RWBY related." "And my friends... ate Snickers." "So I broke their virginities."
Ruby Crescent-Rose I know that, but Weiss' reputation does fit the prissy rich girl, and the Faunus incident that pushed Ilia over the edge occured while mining Dust, as soon as that was mentionned, my thoughts went straight to the SDC, which is run by Jacques.
@North The Wolf He was probably referring to the story about the mine collapse which happened thanks to the "controversial labor forces" the Schnee family was mentioned using in volume 1 episode 2
I doubt it. Weiss is not who she was in season 1. We see this especially in her fight against the Atlesian robots when she saved Velvet. It was Velvet in trouble that helped Weiss summon the arm and sword of the knight.
AAAH I'M SO READY FOR VOL 5 AND THE BADASS SOUNDTRACK. On another note, the movement has improved immensely. If you compare how Illya(?) was hopping on the roofs to some of the jumping around in the previous volume, it has become so fluid and you can see weight, something that's extremely hard to portray in 3-d animation in general. Amazing job, my eyes were in need of some great animation. Can't wait to see and hear such beautiful art next month!
Yes! I was disappointed when volume 4's battles made it seems like nothing, the movements or hits, had a lot of weight to them but it looks like they're getting used to the new program. Theres still hope lol
This short is very unique and great in my opinion since it shows how Blake went from finding out Illia had to pretend not tyo be a faunus, which Blake saw as terrible back then. But then Blake went to pretend to be human only to really find the same cruel words coming from friends just like Illia. All along in her life she had an idea on how a life pretending to be human would end, and now we see why she ran from it so many times. She had learned to love these friends, truly cared about them. She didn't want to hurt them and end up returning to the white fang. So she ran to avoid the fate she knew all too well. Then Yang ended up getting hurt, and she had to run again after feeling accepted by her friends. Now she knows the only way she will ever truly be accepted is to right the wrongs the white fang has done and get rid of the fate that faunus have to hurt the humans who speak badly about them. She believes in peaceful protest, accepting who you are. Blake knows this entire time that she will hurt those she decides to come close to and she's so afraid of what will happen.
Here's something interesting that occurred to me when watching this short: I think Blake was hesitant to become friends with Yang because she reminded her too much of Ilia. Think about it: Yang is a hot-headed, quick to throw the first punch type of girl, much like Ilia was when she broke all those Atlas girls' teeth. We don't know what happened between the two of them, but I think it's obvious that whatever it was, it ended their friendship on a sour note. However, when Blake realized Yang was much more sensitive and sensible then first appearances would suggest, she slowly opened up to her until they became close friends. And I think that's why Blake felt so guilty over what happened to Yang at the end of Volume 3. She stood up for her best friend, only to end up failing and hurting her, much like whatever happened between her and Ilia. Those are just my thoughts. What do you guys think?
"Show them how you smile If only for a while Take what you need Leave them to bleed Let them know better When your revenge is sweet" that's what i heard
Jaune hasn't been in the focus since V1. He played a supporting role in V2, V3, and V4 and was always playing second fiddle to someone, whether that be Pyrrha in V2 and V3, or Ruby and Ren in V4. Multiple people have run an analysis of screen time and dialogue. Jaune is only ahead of the main protagonists in V1, which had a significantly shorter runtime and had him in the focus for a large part of it, and even then, he's not ahead of Ruby or Blake. In V2 and V3, all of the main 4 protagonists and Pyrrha have more dialogue and screen time than he does, and in V4, Ren, Blake, Weiss, and Ruby all outrank him. The only protagonist he has more time than in V4 is Yang, and that's because Yang was tragically underserved in V4. That's not even getting into the prologue "trailers" and the V4 and V5 prologues, where he doesn't even appear outside of a single line of dialogue on Ruby's phone in the V4 one.
The way things are going, we should be seeing a Yang short before the Vol. 5 premiere. Or I'm completely wrong and the Yang short will happen before Vol. 6. I wanna see an emotional RWBY reunion. Hugs and tears.
Gricken well obviously Faunus lived in mantel and atlas but they implication is that its segregated with Ilia being the exception. Ironwood runs the combat school so he lets them in despite her having to go to school with people like how Weiss acted in volume 1.
I wonder if those lines are from an Ilia song. If that's true then we can probably expect an arc about her (she'll probably either be Blake's opponent during v5 or get a character arc and join blake and sun)
Or its a From Shadows Part 2 considering From Shadows 1 equally talks about rising up from discrimination and taking what they want by force and justifying violence. More of a view of Blake's past with the organization than the character as a whole.
Steven Ross RIGHT? Lol people are dissing Blake for not immediately attacking her, but how would we feel if we had to fight against someone who was once very close to us? I know I would be hesitant.
People: OMG GOD SEASON 5 MUST HAVE ANAHABXUVSHSVSHSB *fandom explodes* Me: yeah so ummm when does volume 5 soundtrack come out? 😂👌❤️ Holy cheese and crackers I did not expect 577 people to like this thanks guys (You don't see that edit)
True, and in retrospect it kind of makes sense, but the order in the video is: Kids laughing over their death, Illia cries and turns blue, kids get scared, Illia gets angry. It's a pretty weird order to lay it out in.
chaosXpert Actually no her parents didn't die in the mine. Her parents sent her to Atlas they didn't live there. She states that a "little faunus girl from menagerie in the city of dreams" She would have specified if her parents died.
I like how we learn more about Blakes relationship with Iliya (I think that's how it's spelt, please correct me) and that it cut pretty well between the past and present. ALSO THE SOUNDTRACK IS AS GOOD AS EVER!
Close. It's Ilia. I found Ilia's backstory really interesting, but this feels more like an Ilia Character Short because it focused so much on her instead of Blake, and it's also so important to Ilia's character that I kind of think it was better suited to be in Volume 5 instead.
After the auditory and visual torture that was volume 3 I would call any soundtrack better, RT could use a remix of "It's Everyday Bro" by Jake Paul as the volume 5 soundtrack and it would still be better than volume 3.
Theory: So Weiss and Blake trailers both are flashbacks building on things we learned about them in Volume 4. That means most likely Yang's trailer will be About Raven and the bandits. I think her trailer will be the most exciting because unlike Weiss' home life and Illia with Blake. We never actually saw the bandits. Only the destroyed village. Also keep in mind Qrow asked Raven if she knew where the spring maiden is. Although she said no. She could be lying. Also Yang implied she was going to find Ruby over Raven at that crossroads. But that could have been a trick by Miles and Kerry to throw us off. Her trailer will confirm whether its true or not.
Remember the last scene on Volume 2, the one after the credits? We never seen what happened there, if this was just a dream or Raven really said something to her. So far this space been a blank space between the end of Season 2 and the game that happens before Season 3. If Yang's trailer are also flashbacks, this could be a night to remember, considering this been the only "real interaction" between Yang and Raven.
If that was true, then why was that scene put in in the first place? It's like Church and Tex in the Recreation trailer, but at least their conversation isn't canon and more of a metaphor for the later episodes. If they never had plans on following up on Yang and Raven's conversation, then they shouldn't have put that scene in.
If we even get character shorts of Ruby and Yang before the new Volume starts. Hopefully, all 4 shorts will have been simultaneously in the works as each is released. If not, then we may not even get shorts for Ruby and Yang.
OK that was super impressive, amazing animation, incredible lighting, great bouncing back and forth between flashback and present time. Sun was oddly useful compared to his usual joking around, Illia's interference made the get away plausible, especially as both she and Blake can barely seem willing to fight one another and so mentally stumble and freeze up. I loved Illia's backstory, seriously, this is the kind of thing I had been hoping to see/hear about Faunus treatment and living since day one, kudos!
"I broke their teeth".....we need more if that darkness rooster teeth I wanna see how far you can seep into the pit of despair so you can come back and bring hope like Oum wanted
Oh things are definetly getting emotional in v5. Ilia is jumping her way up on my list. "Don't be.....I broke their teeth" savage. They had it coming honestly. You don't just snicker about people dying.
maybe the other kids don't view them as people? besides, physical violence is (almost) never a justifiable response to a non physically violent action.
PlayerGamer Blake's black trailer wasn't really focused on her either Weiss's was her going to beacon since she had to fight the Grimm Her short was her training for that or something I think they'll all have connections to their trailers
This is the reason I didn't like this trailer. I got excited for a Blake Trailer. But what I got was more of a mix of Blake and Sun chasing some Randofernando and Ilias Backstory. Don't get me wrong, I like Ilia as a Character and her Story was interresting, but this really isn't what I hoped for
They should really do a thing about how Blake let's her blonde hair friends get hurt physically and mentally Yang's Pain:Physically,Mentally Sun's Pain:Physically Jaune:Mentally
Back in my day, every background character was all black.
RedWizardRaph / Gaming omg I remember that. I found it really clever it let you focus on the main characters more
We are old
Except for the moments when they stand around without reacting to the world around them at all.
And somehow the animation still looked better
Actually, the creative team has said that that was their biggest regret and that if they could, they wouldn't have done that. But they had to because of budget reasons
"And my friends... snickered."
This line and the way it's delivered is pure awesome.
It shows her process of realization at that point of how evil minded her friends were
Well personally I prefer: "Dear girl, confess to me your strife!"
You're not yourself when you're hungry. Eat a snickers
1k like
I prefer "I broke their teeth".
Ends the entire speech with such a powerful note.
I like how they are not pale any more. I also like how the background characters aren't pitch black like Shadows. They improved allot
Ju Bc The background characters haven't been shadow people for three volumes.
*shadow person waves in the background*
Ju Bc Indeed
Samuraiedge2 indeed
The animation in general is just improving so much too, it's incredible.
"Don't be... I broke their teeth."
Their ROOSTER TEETH!
So that's why roosters don't have teeth, who knew roosters were racist?

It's like with Cardinal's bullying. Sure, he bullied Velvet for being a faunus, but he also bullied Jaune (Not a faunus). Cardinal bullies anyone he can. He uses people's differences (e.i. race) to fuel his insults. He's looking for any reason, not just race, to put his target down. Cardinal is a racist, but he's a bully first, if that makes any sense.
It was about race. They literally talk down on Faunas all the time. Faunas just so happen to be "poor" in this case.
I'll say it once and I'll say it again, Atlas is a dystopian old moneyed aristocratic shithole.
When do they, by which I assume you mean the characters in RWBY as a whole, talk down about Faunus? Disregarding Cardin and his team, Roman, Emerald, and Mercury, who are the villains and do nothing but bad things to everyone all the time. What a great Illia character short
I know right? Blake is such a good background character, Illia is the greatest main character of team RWIY
To me, this short shows the way Blake thinks rather than any specific instance from her past
Was this REALLY a *Blake* character short?
when the shorts have better writing than the actual show
This is for Blake. Not Illia.
*realizes october is a month from now*
*weeps*
PlayMyAce then understands that volume four was dogshit hopes that vol five will be better
Then again halo 4 was considered dogshit and halo 5 was worse aaaaah halo comparisons are the futuuure

I know this was supposed to be the feels, or something like that, but the entire time I kept thinking about the chameleon, "Girl, you badass."
I think that's the point, for her entire time in the white fang it seems like the chameleon girl was her best friend and the person she looked up to the most.
AeroCard when I heard her say she broke their teeth, I was like "YASS"
She's TERRIFYING! The smile when she says "I broke their teeth" chilled me. The color scheme is some batshit intimidating kefka bullshit. We have a new Neo-like psycho evil badass woman.
AeroCard I hope she breaks more teeth in the future.

Finally someone who gets it!
You should spread this , like tbh
Yezzie Shah as Elie Wiesel has said before he died "indifference is what has costed people their lives"
Yezzie Shah "Not an idealist?" Did you not watch Vol 2, when she explained to Ozpin why she's a huntress? She was the one with the strongest idealism.
Samuel Langhus Not enough to out weigh her doubts and fears. She ever called her semblance a cowardly ability. Hiding in her shadow... now that's a metaphor.
Remember in earlier volumes background characters were just black silhouettes.

Well, these background characters are pretty ugly looking, especially compared to V2-3. Their faces look wonky and they aren't even in the same art style.
Soarel Okay, now it just seems like you're needlessly band-wagoning on this hate train for new RWBY
Beauty is subjective but their faces aren't "wonky" at all
Zexion Cornejo mm
"I'm sorry"
"Don't be. I *broke* their *teeth* ."
Me: "Woah okay then"
I snickered...
Ilia has jumped to one of my top 5 favourite characters now. Her story seems so realistic.
I hope they'll keep her around for more than just this volume. It's nice to have some grey characters on the opposing side(especially the White Fang).
ocadioan I really hope so too. You can see the way ilia influenced Blake as a character. Blake probably got the idea to go to beacon while passing as human from her and this adds more depth to her saying "I want people to see me for who I am not what I am" Ilias story shows that many humans can't see past people being Faunus.
Ella Watts
If I had to guess, she'll very likely be a key character in "taking back" the White Fang. And if she is... Yeah, I think we'll see much more of her yet.
Ella Watts cause they took inspiration of their own lives and applied aspects to theirs.
Experiences from others into a character makes the character more relatable
I agree her story is sad and now i really like her
people regress, life isnt always constantly bettering yourself, blake ran away because she was scared, shes gonna grow more, but the entire point is that they all grow at different rates, theyre children after all, blake running home might be a ''step backwards' for her, but that doesn't mean she's never gonna grow, ruby ran away from home to help people, weiss ran away from home to be herself, blake ran back home to recover, and yangs running away from home to find ruby, they all have completely different lives and goals, but that doesn't mean ones more just than the other.
Very good observation. Puts things into perspective.
One of the few people who gets it.
well put
I remember when vol 4 just ended and now vol 5 is like right around the corner... The feels of having to wait for vol 5 and now being so close already... It's amazing how fast time flies.
To the lucky ones who found this early, you Belladone good.
God damn it Barb
PickledDoge what about the super lucky ones who got the mobile glitch and watched it two days ago?
Because I did that.
FeelsGoodMan!
I Belladon't know if that pun was good. Learn to put on the 'Blake's because you 'Wuk'ant make tasteless humor. You got that 'Sun'!
I know they usually upload at 12 o'clock central time
THIS RWBY HYPE TRAIN HAS NO BLAKES!!!
Love you, Rooster Teeth! Thank you so much for your hard word and dedication. Can't wait for the Volume 5 premiere!
MurderofBirds this is AWESOME
MurderofBirds god damnit barb
Of course you'll be the first one to watch this XD
MurderofBirds what's with blake and having friends that try to kill her later on?
Thank you! :)
ManCaptainPokey Maybe thats why she got the bow, to blend in like Ilia did
Flashback Blake has no belly button, present day Blake does. Nice attention to detail RT. Also first time we see someone's eye color change without them blinking it to change. We watch Ilia's eyes fade between blue and grey the entire time.
shes a Chameleon
The flashback thing might be a nod to the fact that in volume one they forgot to give Blake a belly button lol
Lyrics to song:
Show them how you smile,
It's only for a while,
Take what you need,
Leave them to bleed,
Let them know bitter,
When your revenge is sweet.
Sounds more like an Ilia song rather than a Blake song. I guess Blake still doesnt have a solo song.
Blake Belladonna That's not a solo song.
Blake Belladonna sadly neither of those are solo Blake song. Like Morning Follows Night is a Blake and Sun and From Shadows is a Blake and Adam song.
From Shadows isn't really a Blake song at all. It's Adam/the WF's theme. Blake's image song is actually Wings, believe it or not. That's the song that's used for her scenes in V1.
From shadows and like morning follows night are BOTH Blake songs, even if they're duets
@@soarel325I noticed Wings was used during her solo scenes
*Show them how you smile!*
If only for a while,
Take what you need,
Leave them to bleed,
Let them know better
When your revenge is sweet!
Verociel It's only for a while*
Let them know bitter*
*You’ll might think that maybe they’re changing*
*You’ll pray that their hatred is waning*
*That’s when it hurts most to find*
*The story unfolds and their cruelty’s exposed*
*You’ll be glad your not their kind*
nao
Stop him!!! His weapon is only a gun!!!
That's what he was buying the knife for. TO attach it to his gun
Knife... Gun... Knife Gun!
Now commencing Virtuous mission.
Practical and safe.
Wyatt Arnett he was going to combine the switch blade with the gun, make a short sword that can turn into a gun
huh..
Can we all take a moment to see how amazing this animation looks. Like the improvement from volume 1 to volume 5 is crazy awesome.
Nah, it's the shading and modelling that's improved the most. The animation (different from choreography) is only marginally better.
exactly what I was thinking! I'm so proud of how much they've grown :,)
The animation is pretty bad tbh.
The characters do seem to be TOUCHING the ground as they run, so that alone is an awesome improvement.
*Ilia does a random handspring just for good measure*
Say it with me everyone: "Ilia Redemption"
CABRALFAN27
Ilia Redemption!
CABRALFAN27 ILIA REDEMPTION
I'm not certain
CABRALFAN27 Its a good chance she's gonna die when she's redeeming herself
They keep hinting at redemption with Emerald, yet she got couple lines in the last volume. If Illya gets redeemed, it will probably be strung along until 10.
The animation looks gorgeous.
The ultimate wifu finally gets her time in the sun
Wait where is she?!?
Kickassreaction She put herself in Sun Last volume actually.
Wrong... Sun finally gets to be in the best waifu
That's so wrong...
It's the Sun that's in her!
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
THE ANIMATION JESUS CHRIST
Also, does this mean that Yang's trailer is the one with an actual fight? -hoping for Yang to destroy another club-
Likely. She only had one "fight" in Volume 4 and it was a simple sparring match with Taiyang, so I'd expect her to get the same treatment Weiss did. We do need to see how she's adapting to only having one gauntlet since her new arm doesn't appear to have any built in weapons.
Hammertime Maybe she"ll fight some bandits on her way to Ruby.
i hope their make Yang flasback with little ruby and Mama Summer Rose
Yangs gonna destroy another bar.
either that, or a continuation of the vol 2 epilogue, or a flashback to when summer was alive
theres not much else that they can show in regards to yang in terms of flashbacks i feel
Dylan Van Leuven
I do see your point with Qrow being the scarecrow, however, I personally believe that it's more likely that the headmaster is the scarecrow since Ozpin, Ironwood, and Lionheart all follow their respected characters from Wizard of Oz
McZombieFace I want the headmaster to allude to Dorothy. Because then there will be no confusion on who alludes to who, and all the good Oz characters get an allusion in RWBY.
Professor Ozpin: Ozpinhead
Glynda Goodwitch: Glynda the good witch of the North
Qrow: Scarecrow with no brains
Ironwood: Tin-Man with no heart
Lionheart: Cowardly Lion
Shade Headmaster: Dorothy.
The only thing that sets Ozpin apart from everyone else, is that he has the crazy power to continue living (in a sense) and is who knows how many years old. While, the wizard of Oz is also seen as being some crazy wise or powerful person (even if it was fake).
Dylan Van Leuven
I can definitely get behind seeing a representation of Dorothy
McZombieFace Also, l kinda just want a Female headmaster😂 someone to take charge like Glynda, but actually have FULL authority. So basically Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter
I swear, every time I see a flock of birds now I keep thinking that there's gonna be a stray crow in the flock.
Cyber Searcher really? I thought for a brief second that they may have been bird faunus.
Maybe, but I'd make more sense for bird Faunus to just have bird features. Maybe turning into birds is a trait of Qrow and Ravens sea crest tribe or something, idk.
Me: AW YEAH OCTOBER 14th.
Roosterteeth: Non members must wait till the 21st.
Me:FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU-
Star Kid Saaaaaaaaaaaaame!! Someone just shoot me with an arrow already!
Sketchbook Online Eh. Someone will probably leak it. And if not we've waited months another week couldn't hurt.
Star Kid True, but it still sucks, ya know? Some fans just arent lucky enough.
Guess who's a member
there are websites that release the new eps when they are immediately put out to the sponsors
"I broke their teeth"
Looks like Nora has a rival at last.
Also, #HYPE
#HYPE
Pyrrha Nikos how can you feel Volume 5 hype when you died back in Volume 3?
#SorryNotSorry
Renee Salinas, never feel sorry about making one of those jokes/references. I don't, and I make one just about every RWBY Chibi episode. Learn to regret nothing, it's fun.
Hey the new assassins creed game looks great!
this. regret this.
God I'd love to go to Menagerie, it looks so beautiful and lively, minus the sudden fighting :P
Fantastic job guys! You lot keep growing better and better with the visuals and I'm glad we got a better insight on who Ilia is and her ties to Blake. Only one last stop on the V5 Hype Train! :D
we got one more to go cant forget about our 1 arm Blondie Yang :D lol
Can I come too? I like Menagerie a lot. No...I LOVE MENAGERIE.
It reminds me of Korea in a few ways.
it is beautiful but i wouldnt mind seeing Vacuo though i wonder how the desert would look in that software they use
Not a bad choice, either!
ThatKaitoDan just go to Australia. Pretty much the same thing
It gives some context, still though I want a ililya episode now
Hellwolf 19 It kinda is but Illya is part of Blake's past and someone she may have to face in combat
It might be the common point of the shorts pre-season this year : we got to know more about winter than about weiss in the previous short I think. It might be about how they react with secondary characters, idk, something like that
Blake is the bridge between radical Faunas and peaceful Faunas, so it kinda is
A lot of Blake's story is how much she's let other's ideals and creeds knock her off having any sense for what she's willing to fight for, so yeah its an Illya short but I figure it came around to being about Blake the moment she let the fact that it was Illya stop her from pursuing any further
I am SUPER STOKED for Volume 5! This show is fundamentally different from anything else I've ever seen.
I'm guessing Menagerie is used to inside conflict. Absolutely no one flinched after that gunshot, which means Faunus are treated unfairly even amongst themselves. Although, the same can be true of all races of course. But for it to happen in such a secluded place you can see even more why Blake is so damaged
You have a point there
It's the eye of the catgirl
Eye of the tiger '-'
That's the joke..
Whosdat Gamer it's the thrill of the fight.
grappling up to stab the beak of a bad bird
Whosdat Gamer wow
“I broke their teeth” is now my new favorite line in this entire show
not even "I drink milk" ?
the delivery of that line...
Vincent Abramo no she broke their teeth because they made fun of the fact a bunch of faunus were killed and acted like they were just animals
oh i didn't know it was her parents who died... the flashback is not specific to who exactly died.
I understand that. She was angry about that and resented their reaction to an unfortunate accident. But it was their rejection of her because she was a faunus that pushed Illia over the edge.
"Don't be sorry i broke their teeth"'
Nora would be proud
no. it was their teeth, not their legs
+Max Chen (XN) you're thinking Yang
Blitzkrieg eh violence due to snickers and fear isn't right.
Blitzkrieg The RWBY Chibi Nora one would be way more proud
Cant believe that she is voiced by Lucy from Fairy Tail
Woah this new X-men movie looks cool
Rattacko what does that have to do with anything. ANYTHING
The Faunus are mutants :P
God damn you're not wrong
Where's Cyclops during this short?
Andrew G real question is
Which one is nightcrawler
*OCTOBER 14th, HERE WE COME*
Do you mean 14th? XD
Calxiyn
Damnit... you're right...
(Wish it was the 4th)
Don't we all 🙏
Kross Gonzalez yes 😭😭
RTX LONDON HERE WE COME
The art seems to improve with every episode, I think Monty would be proud to see Rwby today.
I don't think he would be.
Monty had written the majority of the story before he passed away. I'm pretty sure he's happy with it!
Asianator so this was all supposed to happen before?!
Untapped Happiness that explains my urge to yell GOD DAMMIT CHERAMI
Untapped Happiness plus Mercury is Sasuke, Ghira is Hoheinheim/Father, Qrow is Ed, and Oscar is Alphonse & Teenage Hoheinheim (FMAB).
In addition to that, there's some voice cameos, like how two members of TFS were in the Schnee Party back in Volume 4.
I recognized her as Makoto (Best waifu) from Persona 5.
Why does nobody remember her roles in Borderlands 2 or My Bride is a Mermaid?
Untapped Happiness The one I heard was Road Kamelot from D.Gray man.
When you get hyped for new RWBY...
but realize it's more than a month away...
6 years later
3:44 It's also a gun!
yes it is my Ruby Rose wanna be, yes it is
1:37 is also a gun!
Shidonlad's V&G I believe it is a combination between a whip, a rapier, and as you mentioned, a gun
lots of things are also guns
christopher crafte hand guns are also machine guns
Wow , I was literally just watching weiss and rubys short for the 1st time and bam this one came out 20 minutes ago! Talk about timing!
Boss Floss Gaming wait, you just watched ruby's char short? have you watched vol 4 yet, because this contains spoilers
BlankLotuz yeah, Ive rewatched rwby twice and rwby chibi once, @ this point Im watching any rwby content lol
Boss Floss Gaming what's with the "for the 1st time" then? i got confused because of that
BlankLotuz no i meant it was my 1st time watching any trailer/Character shorts
Boss Floss Gaming cool
Seems like Blake's trailers are shared with someone else, like it's always Blake and someone else trailer. First it was Blake and Adam, now it's Blake and Ilia. Not a bad thing, just something I (and most likely everyone else) noticed. It might actually be a really good thing since it seems like she gets the most charter development in her trailers then the rest of the team.
Edit: It's kinda ironic since she is always pushing people away and thinks she needs to do things alone.
Silver_Wing15 Especially Ruby...and Im a bit salty about that still
Sketchbook Online I think its because blake relys on people.
I agree. At least we learned something,
"There was a notification in the UA-cam mines."
"I was on my phone when the news broke."
"Apparently RT had posted something RWBY related."
"And my friends... ate Snickers."
"So I broke their virginities."
if your a female id see that .if male i see you breaking hymens
That escalated quickly.
what in the-
why?!
xD
Could I have whatever you're having there?
SO HYPED!!!!! Give me all the Menagerie! Blake's story is so fascinating and Illia! Can't wait for the rest of the shorts and more so Vol 5!!!
Do I sense some potential Weiss and Ilia conflict in the future given her now revealed backstory?
I´d love to see that, especially considering their respective weapons!
They meant a regular school, not a huntsman academy, well not a regular one seeing a s it's a boarding school
That was actually some of the best writing, art direction, acting and animation I've seen from you guys. Very excited for Season 5.
*_”Born like your family far from any state of grace, you’re as perfect as the wind and sky but they’ll treat you like you’re out of place”_*
Story, art, music aside I like how the faunus used up all 6 of his shots and didn't throw his gun away. smart move
That's, an interesting point. I like it.
Well Yang and Blake are more than just best friends now :3
"Show them how you smile,
If only for a while,
Take what you need,
Leave them to bleed,
Let them know bitter,

"Show them how you smile

Take what you need

Let them know better

that's what i heard
Thanks!
I heard "Let them know bitter, when your revenge is sweet"
Daniel cini I think its let the know "bitter" not better, get it?
It's a ilia song
Never say the "B" word...or the R or the Y or the other B...ah forget it.
Hicehamer
Blake
Ruby
Yang
Are we leaving out weiss?
SHHH! Never say the W word!
Kema Weiss had her character short a few months ago
Who the hell is the other B? IS RWY CHEATING ON BLAKE?!?!?!
I believe RWBY went from being the easiest "Spot the Main Character" game, too one of the hardest.
Yes, yes it is
It's super easy, all the extras are in a completely different art style
Yup
The show is called RWBY, but if we look at screen time, characters and most of the focus it could be called Jaune...
Say RWBYunion. Do it fast enough and it sounds right
I really appreciate the small details, like that her phone says "Ilias Associates" before she switches to that guy's picture.
Ilia Amitola: No one at Atlas one could know I was a faunus
Neon Katt: Exists
Gricken Neon Katt went to a huntsmen academy, not a prep school
Ilia went atlas prep school, Neon is in atlas huntsman academy
Gricken well obviously Faunus lived in mantel and atlas but they implication is that its segregated with Ilia being the exception. Ironwood runs the combat school so he lets them in despite her having to go to school with people like how Weiss acted in volume 1.
That song at the end!!! OMG it was so amazing!! I can't wait for the Volume 5 album!!!
Hyyyyyypppppeeeee
Jeff, i love you to death! your music is going in places tell ya
It's nice to hear Illia's backstory. Know we know why she's so resentful of humans. I feel bad for her. I hope she comes back in volume 9.
THE HYPE TRAIN IS LEAVING THE STATION
cobra 727 ALL ABOARD!!!
Dammit! I'm late!
Jason Hong *throws grappling hook onto hype train*
GRAB ONTO ME IF YOU WISH TO HYPE, BROTHER!
CHOO CHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
cobra 727 wait *gets in* now go!!!
Show them how you smile
It's only for awhile
Take what you need
Leave them to bleed
Let them know bitter
While your revenge is sweet.
I wonder if those lines are from an Ilia song. If that's true then we can probably expect an arc about her (she'll probably either be Blake's opponent during v5 or get a character arc and join blake and sun)
It's Not "your ripe and" it's Revenge.
While your revenge is sweet
Or its a From Shadows Part 2 considering From Shadows 1 equally talks about rising up from discrimination and taking what they want by force and justifying violence. More of a view of Blake's past with the organization than the character as a whole.
Silverflare888 "show them how you smile"
Rather hard when Ilia breaks your teeth
Kinda tragic when you find you gotta fight friends.
Steven Ross when the people you once called your friends are the ones trying to destroy you.
Steven Ross RIGHT? Lol people are dissing Blake for not immediately attacking her, but how would we feel if we had to fight against someone who was once very close to us? I know I would be hesitant.
Ilia didn't actively try to hurt Blake. There's hesitation still shown.
Lucius Di Angelo meaning she could still leave the Hwhite Fang?
Sounds like how high school ended for me....backstabbers
"But there was still something in your eyes....left me hopeless and paralyzed"
People: OMG GOD SEASON 5 MUST HAVE ANAHABXUVSHSVSHSB *fandom explodes*
Me: yeah so ummm when does volume 5 soundtrack come out? 😂👌❤️
Holy cheese and crackers I did not expect 577 people to like this thanks guys (You don't see that edit)
Lol, probably after Vol 5. (I'm hyped for both, still waiting desperately for full "Path to Isolation")
Reality XxXx As soon as I heard the new song I wanted Volume 5 to be over So I can get the soundtrack.
Reality XxXx sameeee
Reality XxXx ikr
Usually it takes a few months to more than a year to come put the soundtrack
Reality XxXx same i cant wait for the amazing soundtrack
"They were scared of me, so I showed them how wrong they were about being afraid of Faunus by breaking their teeth."
I'm sorry.....WHAT?!
Let's just say ilia isn't the brightest chameleon out there
Innenkos Narukami People do stupid things when they get angry/betrayed.
You forgot about the part where they laughed ("they snickered") that her Faunus parents died in the mine
RandomGirl119 I see where you are coming from.
After the auditory and visual torture that was volume 3 I would call any soundtrack better, RT could use a remix of "It's Everyday Bro" by Jake Paul as the volume 5 soundtrack and it would still be better than volume 3.
MidCottonWood86 It's probably right.
Illyrian
Illy/ia
DeathByProcrastination The hell you talking about?
can't believe this was the only instant of the song Smile being used despite being one of their top somgs
Weird, Blake found a place in the world where everyone isn't a black silhouette.
wallmunky503
Yeah, it's called Volume 2.
wallmunky503 ya it's pretty cool what publicity and financing can do for a show lol
Im pretty sure that scene wasn't canon/a dream lol. I think someone confirmed it but I'm not sure
Why wouldn't there be? She's (supposedly) one of the main characters.
If we even get character shorts of Ruby and Yang before the new Volume starts. Hopefully, all 4 shorts will have been simultaneously in the works as each is released. If not, then we may not even get shorts for Ruby and Yang.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. I broke their teeth."
YASS QUEEN
"Take what you need, leave hem to bleed." It's soo cool to see how far this amazing series has come-
Do any of you realize when Ilia was more sad, her eyes turned blue?
I got shivers when she said it like damn
You should watch Day 5, that show is seriously dark!
Going from the worst despair to the ultimate hope? Calm down there, Nagito!
Upupupupu
Lunacy's Straightjacket that sounds like the plot to Kamen Rider Wizard lol
I really love this short it gives a lot of backstory to blake.
And because lucy from fairy tail voiced lia!!
She voiced Ilia in Volume 4 too. Did you just not like her in Volume 4?
"I broke their teeth..."
OH SHIT😰😰😰
This was great and interesting. Now I'm really excited for Yang's trailer. That one should be really really awesome.
So, Blake and Sun became the MiB for rogue Faunus. Cool.
"The why I wouldn't mind Blake and Ilia would be a couple" short.
Cherami Leigh is the best.
VOLUME 5 HYPE TRAIN
Jessie Nightcore
*_AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!_*
One could say, I'm a little hyped.
*YAAAAASSSSSSS SO MUCH HYPE*
*#JOINTHEHYPETRAIN*
Eric Johnson
"It's a legitimate strategy!"
*give conductor a ticket* WOOO, all aboard the HYPE TRAIN!
I SWEAR I HAD A MINI HERT ATTACK WHEN I SAW THIS
i love how illia never really hurts blake physically but runs from her constantly
RWBY VOLUME 5 CAN'T WAIT!! HYPED
Oh things are definetly getting emotional in v5. Ilia is jumping her way up on my list. "Don't be.....I broke their teeth" savage. They had it coming honestly. You don't just snicker about people dying.
Socklucard violence is not an answer to words.
I agree, but that is pretty much every edgy meme lord
She encouraged them though.
maybe the other kids don't view them as people?
besides, physical violence is (almost) never a justifiable response to a non physically violent action.
THAT MUSIC AT THE END. I NEED IT.
DaEpicFirestar wait what?!!
DaEpicFirestar sneak peak where?!!!
Jameswin04 SAMEEEE
Wow i really love to see how their animation gets whole lot better along the series proceeding! Hope they keep up the great work!
Was this the Blake Character short or the Ilia Character short?
Step aside, Blake. A new girl has joined the team.
MythicBird, I say both. Ilia's story parallels Blake in Volume 1.
Rwly
PlayerGamer Blake's black trailer wasn't really focused on her either
Weiss's was her going to beacon since she had to fight the Grimm
Her short was her training for that or something
I think they'll all have connections to their trailers
This is the reason I didn't like this trailer. I got excited for a Blake Trailer. But what I got was more of a mix of Blake and Sun chasing some Randofernando and Ilias Backstory. Don't get me wrong, I like Ilia as a Character and her Story was interresting, but this really isn't what I hoped for
When Sun's abs were just black lines LOL
They should really do a thing about how Blake let's her blonde hair friends get hurt physically and mentally Yang's Pain:Physically,Mentally Sun's Pain:Physically Jaune:Mentally
Son Goken silently waits for sun to snap at blake with backstory
Jaune and Blake have had almost no interaction (not surprising tbh) so I'm not sure what you mean
Probably the interaction was offscreen. Besides Yang was affected by Penny's death but they didn't interact before.
I love how Roosterteeth is giving the characters more back stories with people who are not main characters... it's gives them more depth
Weiss short: my short is the best
Blake short: hold my tuna
Im Sarcastic Holding Blake's Tuna is Yang's job
