*I wish Weiss had more opportunities to use her rapier like this again. I miss her fighting style.* It made her look like she would dance across the battle and fly around with glyphs.
In volume 5, they realized that they didn't know how to make her rapier fighting style look elegant, that's why they doubled down on both Blake's and Weiss's fighting styles. Both were choreographically difficult to pull off.
Emily Haro I don't know why but your comment made me think about how when I was in school I went from an alto to a soprano after 7 years of singing. I was very sad that I could no longer hit the low notes like I used to T-T
She was an extremely mobile glass canon who knew how to use that to win. Unfortunately, that’s actually interesting to watch so we can’t have that anymore.
THIS is art. This trailer doesn't just show her abilities, it also shows her position in the world from her perspective. You can hear cheering and adoration from countless people in the audience, but there's nobody there. She's fighting a empty shell, which can represent her own loneliness. The lyrics of the song claim she wants to hide from herself, because she knows people love her because of her father's company, not because of who she is. She also knows that there are people like the White Fang who hate her for her father's choices. That's why she wanted to become a huntress, so she wouldn't have to live a empty life decided by her father's actions.
The thing I love about this fight is that, up until Weiss starts using dust, she is losing against the Giant Armour. At the start of the fight, she is attempting to beat it and show her father that she is strong enough to do this (likely, it's an old training Atlesian robot), but when she's not able, she has to fall back on that wealth her father has - even though she doesn't like how her life has been defined by her father and the name 'Schnee.' It speaks volumes of her growth through to Volume 3, where she decides to live her life independently of her father, and then onwards to Volume 4.
@@chrisv9866 1 year late but only kind of? According to the manga it's an old mech wearing a copy of Nicholas Schnee's armor (Weiss' granddad, Willow's dad) and it's being controlled by a Grimm (According to the wiki it's a Geist but I'm not sure if that's accurate because it's a fandom wiki) So you are right but there are some finer details
Jacques Schnee was found dead in the courtyard of Schnee manor. Official reports state that multiple sword wounds covered his body and a drawing of a broadsword pointing downward with the handguard wings was found next to the body. The head is currently missing
Ok but have y'all considered how brave this was. From what I can tell, she wouldn't have suffered that wound on her forehead unless her aura broke. In rwby their aura protects them from suffering actual physical trauma, but as we've seen in later seasons, if someone's aura becomes depleted they can actually take physical damage *cough mercury cough*. So basically after her aura was depleted and she got the wound on her head, she kept fighting. She could have easily been killed and yet she kept fighting. That's like extremely badass
If her aura depleted entirely she wouldn’t have been able to use her semblance, would she? It’s more likely using it wasn’t yet natural to her and she forgot to protect herself. Assuming the rules were thought up this early in the making..
It was definitely an inconsistency in CRWBY's representation of aura, especially considering this was made so early in the process of creating RWBY. Since Weiss can't use her semblance after her aura is broken, it should have been impossible that she received that cut and then continued using her semblance.
Honestly I think v8 fixed that, she uses glyphs and dust a lot more. I feel like she doesn't get the chances to get as close because she's a glass canon and most ennemies in later volumes could easily break her aura if she gets too close. I like her role now, she's more of a heavy damage/support fighter using her glyphs to support teamates while dealing huge damage with summonings and dust.
@@nicebot337 she isn't the kind of character to hit hard or something. Her character is more suited to support and controlling the fight not attacking directly.
Really hope the animators look back and study this trailer, we haven't had a good, high impact, fast paced and intense fight with Weiss probably since volume 2.
Monty Oum was the one directing and choreographing these fights. His animation partner Shane did them for volume 3 once Monty passed, but he also left RT after volume 3. The fights in RWBY now is a lot of camera tricks and ill-paced, clunky choreo. You can immediately tell how they compare when you put a post volume 3 fight with one of the trailers, or 1v1 fight (like weiss vs lieutenant). Weiss especially has such a fluid, and beautiful fighting style that makes you want to watch her at half speed just to appreciate her fighting sense and instincts with how she follows up all her attacks. Each fight had a rhythm to them like a captivating dance you couldn’t take your eyes off of. That was what made RWBY so special, but all of it is lost now.
@@GuardianValkyrie the writing hasn’t changed, but there was SO much personality in the monty/shane fights that it mattered less. Sure they spent episodes fumbling around trying to establish characters and relationships and wasted your time, but then a fight happened and everything *clicked* and it was awesome. You understood who these people were from how they fought. You understood how they felt about each other from how they worked together. I could write a several-paragraph rant about the story each of those fights told, all with almost no dialogue. I miss early rwby.
The amount of symbolism they are putting into the scenes and characters is phenomenal. I mean, she talks about how she is lonely, no one in the world can relate to her background and upbringing, and her family by the sounds of things had a very hands off approach to raising her. And of all the trailers, what is she fighting? Possessed armor. Hollow. Empty. The purest expression of nobody. Even her opponents aren't really there for her.
that is true and her father never being there for her accomplishments along with her constantly pushing her to become able to take his place when he's dead, even though he never seems reward her ( witch most likely was a just being accepted) even though she got anything she wanted (episode 10). she even traps it in place befor taking it down so maybe that here finally reaching his view of her. (in her eyes) it's a stab in the dark so live with it.
Remember this guys? When we thought Ruby was a mature badass on the quiet side? Weiss was a considerate but determined sad. Blake and Yang... actually we were pretty right about them
Based on the trailer, I always imagined Weiss to be a quiet, sad, stoic person. Kind-hearted but unable to connect to those around her, isolated by wealth and expectations of her that she did not want herself. Then the show came out and the writers made her a loud, whinny, spoiled rich-girl trope. Also, remember that time the writers made her a racist/human supremacist until they kind of forgot about the subject and never spoke of it again because they were woefully unprepared to handle such a heavy subject?
WCX I consider this trailer more of an inner reflection of Weiss. Not the exterior she presented. Though I will admit I was shocked when I first saw her on the actual show in the second episode. Still my favorite Rwby character. Also, she was supposed to be (in your words) “racist”, because A. People can be like that B. She comes from a place where literally everyone who isn’t rich is looked down upon. Some more than others. It is what it is. I personally thought they handled well. A bit short, but well enough. (Though perhaps because when Volume 1 came out, race/racism was only just becoming such a sensationalized topic as it has been the last few years) It was a small arc that had a beginning and end that led to a lot of character development for Weiss.
XCVGVCX They should have their own spinoff series, focused on them. That way, they don't steal the spotlight so much in RWBY, and they won't be ignored nor forgotten at all.
So I saw a comment here under this video that quoted “Why does she say that she’s lonely, she’s the least loneliest.” That, my friend, is incorrect. You see, Weiss Schnee is always pushed. Pushed to uphold the family name. Pushed to represent the dust company. Pushed to be perfect. She had always lived in a place where she had never felt real love. She always felt like she was fighting to be the best, flawless, because her father pushed her so much. Not out of love, but his benefit. It’s honestly depressing; her family members hardly consider her a Schnee (on the slight exception of Winter), and after her traumatic experience at Beacon, no one bothered to comfort her. “I’m the loneliest of all,” represents that she is ‘all alone’ because not even her father loves her. However, this all changes when she meets Ruby, Yang, and Blake. They teach her how to love, real love. That, is why she is the loneliest of all.
+Vutava Yep, and in Volume 3, we get a snippet of what may be a second part to it, kinda like how Red Like Roses got one back on the Volume 1 soundtrack.
+angeldude101 Everyone knows that she isn't human, she's a faunus, it's strongly adressed during the first season. It's basically the most important factor of her character and is the reason for her being who she is. If you're a fan of the show how could you not know that?
Weiss looks graceful in her fight and posture. But, even behind that dignified stature. She hides quite a lot of pain inside. :'( I applaud her singing nevertheless. :)
cr00cy apparently, Ruby is ambidextrous too. She uses her left hand when she's doing things like pointing, eating and all that, however she uses her right hand in combat and when writing.
Ruby is officially left-handed (according to Miles and Kerry), but according to the wiki she's adopted ambidexterity over time, mainly for the sake of her fighting style. Monty said that it was bc switching weapons between hands makes the fight more interesting.
@@Riinkun If I recall, Monty said that both Weiss and Ruby were left-handed because he was left-handed (I'm using "if I recall" in a tongue-and-cheek manner, I actually have a screenshot of his tweet saying exactly that). Ruby may be ambidextrous when it comes to her fighting style, but she is supposed to be left-handed otherwise (LOOKING AT YOU VOLUME 4)!
The most powerful part for me comes after 3:00. She looks disoriented, almost as if she forgot where she was. She just bared her soul to the audience, she sang this song about her own terrible loneliness and it was like she was calling out for help. Then she realizes where she is, realizes that no one is coming to help, and curtseys like the perfect lady she's meant to be.
I remember when these trailers first came out. When Monty Oum was alive...This goes out to all who wish to keep the memories of this great man within their hearts, and to remember the things he has done, This message may be way after Monty's death, but he will always be remembered, for centuries and beyond. Remember those who will pick you up if you fall, remember those who help you through hard times, remember those who impact your life in the best way possible, remember the people who will stick with you no matter what. R.I.P Monty Oum, you will forever be missed within everyone's hearts.
It's really sad he had amazing ideas and skills to animate. He had planned to have a fight between team jnpr and raven(Yang's mum) but after he passed away the crew didn't understand why so they had to scrap that
I feel like in her fights Weiss struggles with the “people don’t fight fair” style where she’s amazing with her practiced moves but awful at improvise informal attacks Still like her style the most
After all these years of watching his trailer I just realized something that may be obvious to others. The whole fight she didn’t use dust until she had to. She wanted to win using her own abilities. Then once she had to rely on dust she was disappointed. She saw it as a weakness, relying on what her father gave her rather than her rapier training from her sister and her semblance from her mother.
I missed when Weiss was more stronger and capable of fighting, she is still a versatile fighter but the series unfortunately made her weaker and made her prioritise summon more than anything out of ALL the abilities she can do with her Glyphs. RWBY honestly forgot the fact that Weiss can do Time Dilation which is tragic, if she were to use that ability in latest chapters and fights. Victory would be ensured. It’s honestly sad that we don’t get to see Weiss fight like she did from Volumes 1 to 3, she instead spams her most strongest move which is summons and I wish she relied on more of her swordsmanship, elemental Glyphs other than ice, and Time Dilations.
Literally i feel like if she wasnt wasted so much she would have been one of the strongest members. She has technical training, great sportsmanship , technique , and dust plus her summoning. If they would combine all of them together instead of just summoning she would be such a fearful opponent.
She need gravity dust for it and that is expensive since she no longer has her company behind her most of her skills r gonna suffer since she needs the right dust for it
It is because the moon isn't tidally locked with Remnant, as ours is. So the same side is not always showing, meaning that as it rotates, its intact side dominates at certain times, and at others, the fractured side is fully visible.
Well, you could also argue that Ruby is immature, Blake is a coward and that Yang is obnoxious. Just because they have a character flaw, doesn't mean that said flaw defines the entire character. She does get better from Volume 1, however.
Krow's Graveyard weiss has been my favorite since the first encounter we had with her in the series; it was obvious there was much mote to her mean demeanor and coldness
Malek Spika Dude, you know what is development in a character. Cof cof *Ruby has not development* cof. Or at least, not like Weiss. Or Yang, even Blake. xD
Mr. Shiny Pikachu nah not really her sword was still revolving/reloading to ice dust in her first spin and at second it was done and she lift her sword to put force to it Edit: her sword was still revolving/reloading AFTER using the red dust(I don't know if its fire)
one thing i liked about the new trailer was its really the first time weve seen weiss 'chain' attacks between multipe opponents almopst all of the fights we see her do are 1v1's all of her attacks against groups are just mass AOE strikes
Michael Lambino This short takes place after the one in the vol 5. The vol 5 short was weiss training to beat this challenge, which would allow her to go to beacon. You can see that in the vol 5. Short she don't have her scar.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how often Weiss still utilized that knight she was battling when using her semblance, even to this day? Lovely detail!
2:50 Something I learned about on facebook. If you pause right when her left eye taking up the whole screen you can see a reflection of herself in it. But it's only clear for a single frame.
All right, for anyone still confused about what's going on in the trailer... First of all, Weiss is the heiress to the Schnee dust company. She has a lot of typical "daddy's little rich girl" things to live up to. Her father is a cold, money-driven man that seeks to continue the Schnee's honor through is daughter, Weiss. As a result, she has been preened since childhood to be a model example of a prim and proper lady that should also be seen as an authority figure. This includes training her to fight. That being said, the father is rather... Neglectful of his daughter. Weiss has never had friends, as they weren't "good enough" for her. Her mother (if she is still alive) is in the shadow of the father, so she can't do much. The only real social interaction Weiss has is with the servants and employees, but we all know how awkward that'd be. Now for the video itself... Weiss is performing an singing piece for a very large stadium. The piece she is performing very accurately represents what she is feeling in her mind; untold loneliness and fury at having been caged for so long. Due to this fact, she starts to remember a training exercise her father put her up to. A test of her strength. This is the fight between the knight (or the Huntsman) and Weiss (Snow White). This fight is what Weiss feels is the pinnacle of her torment, as it left a scar on her mind and face. If further proof is needed that the fight is a memory, check for the scar on Weiss when she begins her singing. It's there. Now check her face at the beginning of the fight scene. The scar is gone. HOWEVER! When she is hit and begins to bleed, it's in the exact place of where her scar should normally be. Badabing, badaboom.
Adrian Walls Ding! Ding! Ding! Ten Points! This is the most accurate commentary on this trailer. The only thing I would add is that the curtain closes on her looking almost like a figurine inside of a snow globe. In other words, she is still caged; a proper little doll living in quiet pain and loneliness.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. And you're very right about your input; she certainly is still under her father's influence. I quite like how she slowly breaks free of that throughout the series. One of my favorite parts.
This is everything that the newer RWBY lacks, you can feel the build up, impact and repercussions of every move, unlike now where it just feels like a thoughtless spectacle.
Couldn't agree more. If you're like me and are coming from the Vol. 5 preview then you can clearly see how much better this fight is, even if the animation is worse than now.
Honestly, I do prefer the animation from Monty's time but all we can do is watch the animators progress and get better and not complain. There's no point in complaining. We atleast have these old videos to always remember Monty.
I do miss when she used fight like this her style of fighting always had that air of elegance and swift something she hasn't fought as much with in the later volumes
I think what I miss most aboit fight scenes by Monty is how each charatcer has some personality in their movements. Weiss here has her elegance in movement - hints of ice skating, fingers close and not too far apart, and calculated movements. Though it's also fine to see them kind of drop that slowly as the series pass, makingbit seem like they were growing out of their self images and making themselves more battle-focused. It would be interesting to see them regain their old "movement personalities" like this on an episode like if they try to reminisce about their growth, or ease back into it when they are less tense & conflicted and more sure and ready themselves. Intentional or not, it's a bonus twist in perspective that makes you see that even the transision of animation can be a story-telling medium as well.
agree! I definitely feel sorry about the fact that Monty's style and energy are something the newer volumes of the show visibly lack, however it's not that it doesn't make sense narratively. I feel that the characters being "weaker" now actually conveys the way they felt invincible and full of hope and confidence when they were young and inexperienced students at Beacon (and before) and even though they had their problems, they carried a lot less burden in comparison to now. because once the real threat (Salem) had risen like this huge shadow above them-along with, to be fair, everything else that had happened to them throughout the show, and even before Salem was our central villain-they felt how weak they actually are against her. and although they're still young people, their old juvenile briskness sort of dissipated, which, although not ideal in the sense of how enjoyable it is to watch, does make sense and doesn't actually feel wrong. either way, it's really been bumming me out constantly seeing people being super bitter about the newer volumes just because the fight scenes aren't the same, although they would probably think they're good if they didn't have anything to look back at and compare them to (and as if the fights are the only thing the value and quality of the show as a whole should be judged by), so it's nice seeing a less ruthlessly communicated opinion ;) tbh most of the time I feel that the haters' hostile negativity and bitterness is really poisoning the fandom and also that it very much invalidates the efforts of CRWBY doing their best to carry on Monty's legacy. the fact is that he simply isn't here anymore and people who want to whine about it forever and not appreciate anything without him are just annoying at this point. anyway this turned into a pointless personal rant but yeah. my point is, I agree.
Monty actually had plans for like 9 seasons. We're good. Know if you watched Sherlock let's hope Monty is secretly Sherlock and he didn't actually die.....
So I saw this thingy in another comment where u can see Weiss's reflection in her eye. I searched it up and saw that her reflection was in her eye. I though it was bullshit BUT NO slow down to .25 and pause at 2:51 its hard to catch since its only in one frame BUT IT IS THERE :O Try to pause it when her eye is filling up the whole screen.
Good eye! I think its some sort of intentional symbolism of her leaving her rather extravagant life at Atlas to become a Huntress at Beacon. The reflection is of her with her eyes closed on the stage. Most likely the event she sings at is hosted by her family, since the Schnee logo appears in the background of the stage. It probably means that Weiss was selected to be the heiress over her older sister since winter is in the military, so Weiss was selected to be the heir to her fathers dust company from a young age, since winter is probably as old as Qrow, seeing as they've probably known each other for a while. Due to this, Weiss was probably paraded around as the next big thing at atlas, but went to beacon because she does love the perks of the Schnee name, but secretly dosent want to be on such a high pedestal like Phyraa was, and since Phyraa claimed that " when you're placed on a pedestal like that for so long, you become separated from the people that put you there in the first place."(Dance Dance Infiltration Vol. 2 Ep. 7) Because of her being so highly elevated, she claims herself to be "the loneliest one of all".(White Trailer). This is the reason she went to beacon, to avoid being put on a pedestal that she didn't want in the first place. It's just a personal thought, Monty was known for his foreshadowing. (For those saying that she summoned the giant sword in volume 3: this probably means she can manifest both physical and mental enemies. Winter does say "Excellent form! Now think to your fallen foes!" (Lessons Learned: Vol 3 Ep 4) She dosen't specify wether the foe has to be physical or mental.) Sorry this was so long.
+John Smith Just wait until the real story unfolds. It's not wise to assume things. (I'm referring to your theory on Winter's age and Weiss' history btw)
Bro no matter how many times I watch this, I can never get over Weiss jumping on the sword as its swinging, its honestly still one of the most badass things I've ever seen in my years of watching anime
Curiosity, (mild/possible spoilers) The thing she's fighting here, kind of resembles her 'summoning' creature, even though you only get to see it's arm/sword, so the trailer kinda seems like she's fighting for her right to use this power, or accept the power she can't fully utilize, and the scar stands as a reminder of how painful it is that she struggles so hard to summon this compared to her sister and family members. Just a thought.
The Schnee family summons the Grimm that they beat in battle. Also, according to the manga, which is canon, the armor that Weiss is fighting is a special Grimm that can possess objects. It was created by the Schnee family by taking a lot of these Possession Grimm in order to test Weiss, if I remember correctly.
Grim wolves, Grim bears, and Adam from the other trailers have appeared in the actual show. Totally called this knight thing appearing again too! XD Can't wait to see Weiss summon this thing with a full-on Schnee makeover. It's gonna be EPIC!
I dunno about you guys, but after the Volume 5 short, I've been watching this religiously. I prefer these older trailers over the newest ones These character trailers just have something that the newest trailers won't be able to have... The new ones just focus a little bit too much on the action or something and not much on the story. Sure the animation is great, but Monty just had the certain charm when working on the trailers. I think the line 'I can keep it from the world, why won't you let me hide from me? ' represents how much Weiss is struggling to suppress her true self and trying to be more how her father wants her to be. All these lyrics represent Weiss perfectly especially when she keeps asking the 'mirror' , ' Who's the loneliest of all? ' and she later replies with ' I'm the loneliest of all, ' I love how the audience is empty, it represents how everyone praises her but in the end it means nothing because those praises aren't for her but her father, Jacques Schnee.
you are absolutly correctt ,butt one thing a have to say is that the volume 5 short was a flash back to before this short, you can see it in her hair and that she doesn't have a scar , manking this look like a weiss with less power. at least that's what i got
Yang's strength is her, well, strength. Blake's is her agility. Weiss's is her endurance and dust. Ruby's is her speed. Together they would move so fast they could fell anyone in one slash of a sword.
Yang's weakness is her speed. Blake's is her long combos (they leave her open to attack). Weiss's is her attitude/personality (she's brash). Ruby's is her fighting style (it involves her rushing in without a second thought)
"Weiss Schnee wonders why everyone is confused about Weiss referring to herself in third person, said Weiss Schnee questioningly." Internet cookie to whoever gets the reference :)
One of my favorite things about this trailer is that Weiss at first focuses on using her rapier to attack the Knight. Only once she realizes that she cannot defeat the Knight on her own, she begins using the Dust. I don't know about you guys, but I see this as a direct denial of her father's company. In the second episode, we see Weiss bravely talking about the Schnee Dust Company, but could that be a facade? She might not be proud of her father's achievements at all, and wants to prove her own worth without his assistance for once. [Just a minor theory/belief of mine.]
... I think I know now the story about Weiss' scar. It just hit me as I was watching this again. She DID get it before the "fight", not during it. The battle against the mirror knight is a metaphorical memory for the conflict against her father, with the father being the mirror knight. The "knight" appearing is him coming back from work. As Weiss mentioned, he would come home furious everyday due to the war between the White Fang and his company. He, in a state of fury, attacks her first. She fights back in a rather passive way, as if trying to calm him. But at 1:41 the knight (father) strikes her and that symbolises how he inflicted the scar on her. And that's why she bleeds too, not because of what of the knight inflicted (the knight didn't injure Weiss as the fight was simply a memory), but what her father inflicted. After, she becomes more aggressive to defend herself (or she may had had enough of the abuse he subjects her to) and she "defeats him" in her mind. ...I need to stop looking too deep into things.
Cool theory, but that's not it. Weiss is the daughter to a large, successful corporation, so in which case her father is probably pushing her to be the best she can possibly be. The song tells you that her father (maybe herself too) push her so hard that she never had the chance to have friends so she was always alone, hence why at the end of the song the answer to "Who's the loneliest of all?" was herself. But what I could gather from watching the trailer and what other people are saying, she is terrified of failure, and that's why when she was hit by the Knight and got the cut on her eye she looked extremely disappointed in herself. And the scar represents a failure that everyone can see, but it also tells herself that she isn't as perfect as she wants to believe she is.
Ben Marchesani The show definitely shows the fear of failure in Weiss. I should add that Weiss first lets Ruby in when she hears the youngster express a similar need to prove herself. Camaraderie at its finest.
bro they messed up her fighting style so much, the only reason weiss is my favorite character is because her fighting style was so elegant and ballet like, it was so cool to see her fly around the fight and use her rapier more :(
Exactly. This show had amazing concepts and it's story had insane potential but the showrunners haven't done it justice. I stopped watching a couple years ago but I started writing an Alternate canon for RWBY and give it the love it deserves
@@ReiseLukasyeah i dont understand why it had to take such a confusing twist in the show, they couldve kept it simple as 4 girls battling villians/grim and having fun, instead of it turning into a complicated long story, and keeping the OG designs, maybe tweaking it a bit but not changing it entirely. everyone has their opinion on the show, but in my opinion it messed up a bit
Its the newest 3D zelda thats come out that isn't an HD Remake. Not counting link between worlds, because its still the top down scheme, 3d is only the graphics, not the engine.
i remember when weiss used to have dancing incorporated into her combat, along with using different glyphs other than summons and having a much wider array of dust in use. now she just summons and swings her sword
"Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow, for the heart has no metrics or form of measure, and all of it....irreplaceable" That line was powerful the first time I read it. And now it only resonates even deeper. Rest in peace Monty Oum.
PEOPLE The Main Characters are WAY stronger in their respective trailers than in the show because they have to start off weaker or else there will be no room for character development. Im sure that by the end of Volume 2, Weiss will be close (if not already) to being this strong. I mean, we have yet to see Myrtenaster's yellow(agility enhancer), white(epic runes and awesome final strike) and red(fire blast and energy shield) Dust being used in the show.
I think, like the previous trailers, this is set before the show. She is sad, and alone. She muddles along in her sadness, and fights with no purpose, simply because she has been trained to. I believe she went to Beacon partly to please her father, and partly because it would get her away from this lonely, meaningless life of hers. It really shows the strength of her solitude. In the show she hasn't quite mastered people skills, and she didn't do as well as she could have in the fight against the Nevermore because it was pretty tough and required teamwork. She was stuck up, selfish, and self-centered for most of the show so far, and is only just learning to break out of that.
Actually, we have seen her use the fire blast. She was going to use it on that group of Beowolves that attacked her in the Emerald Forest, but Ruby got in her way, meaning Weiss had to swing elsewhere, which set part of the forest on fire, remember?
Agreed. Even though all they were really supposed to show were the abilities of each RWBY member (besides Yellow and Black, which were much more plot heavy). Easily the best fight choreography in the series bar none (Pyrrha vs CRDL comes close)
For those who haven't read the manga. It seems the knight is actually a possession type Grimm, or rather multiple small possession type Grimm inside of a suit(think hunters from Halo) that the Schnee dust company made. Defeating it was a challenge she had to overcome to be allowed to attend Beacon.
+Michael Jensen But Rooster Teeth watched over it right? I'm fairly certain that it's cannon. If not, my bad, but you'll have to provide a link saying it isn't for me to believe so.
+Coran Baker it's "canon, not canon", thats what Miles said, just think of it as canon, but don't be suprised if it's not canon, but due to the recent episode (11), I believe the knight is something that Weiss has been trying to summon, a creature that will help her in battle
Though its a real tragedy that the creator Monty Oum passed away after the 3rd season...but some other people found his ideas for season 4...nd a bunch of season 4 episodes had already been released...R.I.P Monty Oum
Can well take a moment here to look at this beautiful masterpiece by Monty. Not only did he make a fight scene a fight scene, but it held so much resemblance and told a story in it of itself. Pure art
This is definately my favourite action sequence from RWBY thus far. Not the best trailer, but definately the best action sequence incredibly well choreographed and Monty did a great job showcasing both Weiss's skills as a fence-based fighter and as a glyph user. Fantastic.
UM4DBRO210 Whilst I do love everythnig about Crescent Rose, Ruby and how the duo work together I can't help but feel like less effort went into the Red trailer. It was a fine display of Monty's animation prowess and of the aforementioned functionality of Crescent Rose but I just find that the other trailers had more effort put into them (likely because they in fact were... Monty was the sole person responsible for the Red trailer, that's why the beowolves are incredibly basic since he had no one to improve upon his own artwork beforehand). I think my list is: 4) Red 3) Yellow 2) White 1) Black Which is saying something considering that the Red trailer is still awesome.
true, but all around, every fight scene is AWSOME, i wonder how long it takes them for each, also yea forgot that monty did do the red trailer all on his own didn't he
honestly i think the team should watch these early trailers again, there's so much these girls can do and they just don't use those abilities in the show
They know they can fight like this. They're not just creative or skilled enough to do it. I don't know how they managed to do that Neo vs Cinder fight, I have a feeling it's an old animation saved by Monty for a Yang vs Neo rematch because if you've noticed, Cinder is fighting with her hands instead of you know, her swords. When she finally uses her swords again, the animation goes back to boring.
I think you meant, "Remember when Weiss swung Myrtenaster around like a kid swinging a small stick until she finally used Dust to make it swing like a bigger, heavier sword"? It's absolutely tiring seeing y'all go full moron with nostalgia. Not only was she swinging it like a saber instead of lunging like you're supposed to with a rapier, she was making no headway until she used Dust to increase the impacts of her blocking, slashing, and piercing attacks. Myrtenaster has been far more useful as a casting focus than as a melee weapon, no matter what part of the show you're watching.

Hi Jp Artist!!
+CrypticNazo I like the artistic style of the trailer it's much better than the the other styles
Well said...
+CrypticNazo Agreed, this is the best comment so far.
+CrypticNazo your comment is art
+CrypticNazo Exactly what I was thinking, good job.
The thing I love about this fight is that, up until Weiss starts using dust, she is losing against the Giant Armour. At the start of the fight, she is attempting to beat it and show her father that she is strong enough to do this (likely, it's an old training Atlesian robot), but when she's not able, she has to fall back on that wealth her father has - even though she doesn't like how her life has been defined by her father and the name 'Schnee.'
It speaks volumes of her growth through to Volume 3, where she decides to live her life independently of her father, and then onwards to Volume 4.

Mercury getting hurt was a illusion
Mercury's attempt to attack Yang was the illusion. Her counter punch was very real.
Weiss's semblance is both glyphs and summoning. She also used dust, but she definitely used her semblance quite a lot.
Ugh back when Weiss used her rapier, dust, and glyphs instead of spamming her summoning. I wish they’d bring this fighting style back for her.

Really hope the animators look back and study this trailer, we haven't had a good, high impact, fast paced and intense fight with Weiss probably since volume 2.
Fr characters like weiss could be so strong but they spam one power they have and makes them seem weaker and reliant on one thing.
@@nathagar9251 Monty was the heart and soul of it all, I feel.
Remember this guys? When we thought Ruby was a mature badass on the quiet side?
Weiss was a considerate but determined sad.
Blake and Yang... actually we were pretty right about them
Weiss IS a considerate but determined sad.
I feel like these trailers had a tone the rest of the show failed to capture from the beginning :/
The first two trailers are a master class in art/story/fight direction.... the rest of the series lacks in any of that.

*Cough* Whitley *Cough*

Weiss' song tells us a lot more about her than she'd like us to know.
+Vutava Yep, and in Volume 3, we get a snippet of what may be a second part to it, kinda like how Red Like Roses got one back on the Volume 1 soundtrack.
From Shadows mentions that Blake (and others) were "crushed by cruel human rule." It would have been odd to say that if she was human.
+angeldude101 Everyone knows that she isn't human, she's a faunus, it's strongly adressed during the first season. It's basically the most important factor of her character and is the reason for her being who she is. If you're a fan of the show how could you not know that?

cr00cy apparently, Ruby is ambidextrous too.
The most powerful part for me comes after 3:00. She looks disoriented, almost as if she forgot where she was. It's really sad he had amazing ideas and skills to animate. He had planned to have a fight between team jnpr and raven(Yang's mum) but after he passed away the crew didn't understand why so they had to scrap that
they probably did...but they probably assumed it wouldn't go in the right direction.
I feel like in her fights Weiss struggles with the “people don’t fight fair” style where she’s amazing with her practiced moves but awful at improvise informal attacks
Still like her style the most
After all these years of watching his trailer I just realized something that may be obvious to others.
Well time dilation is pretty op so I think they may have soft retconned it.
She need gravity dust for it and that is expensive since she no longer has her company behind her most of her skills r gonna suffer since she needs the right dust for it

Adrian Walls Actually, if you pause the trailer at 2:57 both the scar and the blood is visible.
Check around 1:06. The scar is clearly there.
Nathaniel Sebastian I think that might be a trick of the eye. Several other shots before the hit leaving the scar show that it is in fact not there.

After watching RWBY 50 times and rewatching these trailers really shows the difference of when Monty was alive. He was a legend
Difference between a creator with passion and a Corporate entity that just seeks PC Brownie points
If I had one wish for RWBY it would be that Monty Oum had more time to see his fans and create more episodes and seasons. :'(
Livvy daughter of Hades Hopefully he's at least secretly batman and has some RWBY contingency plans stashed away somewhere.
Monty actually had plans for like 9 seasons. We're good. Know if you watched Sherlock let's hope Monty is secretly Sherlock and he didn't actually die.....
bobmcbob49 yeah hopefully he is batman!
Kiata-Moon789 9 SEASONS OF PLANS.... yay! ヽ(〃^▽^〃)ノ
Even though Monty is dead physically he is still alive and is also in a better place now
so... beautiful I'm going to cry
I see it
2 Ep. 7)
Because of her being so highly elevated, she claims herself to be "the loneliest one of all".(White Trailer).
Your right
Wow. RT really put some care into this.
+John Smith Just wait until the real story unfolds. It's not wise to assume things. (I'm referring to your theory on Winter's age and Weiss' history btw)
Weiss's dab at volume 5 is exactly what us need, and what the foes deserves
us the viewers
Bro no matter how many times I watch this, I can never get over Weiss jumping on the sword as its swinging, its honestly still one of the most badass things I've ever seen in my years of watching anime
Weiss is so graceful even when she's fighting to the death. Props.
Nah, RT said Monty planned everything up to Volume 5. Damn.
***** ...
***** You srs?
***** Didn't know he even planned it up to Volume 9.
+SuperWidgetMaster I love you.
+SuperWidgetMaster I love you,and i hope what you said what you said is true and if it isn't i am gonna be so pissed.
Curiosity, (mild/possible spoilers)
The thing she's fighting here, kind of resembles her 'summoning' creature, even though you only get to see it's arm/sword, so the trailer kinda seems like she's fighting for her right to use this power, or accept the power she can't fully utilize, and the scar stands as a reminder of how painful it is that she struggles so hard to summon this compared to her sister and family members. Just a thought.
In the manga it's explained what that creature is! Read chapter 3
+Joe Guy I suppose that gives a new meaning to "burdened by the royal test".
Actual I think it's the opposite
It's a reminder of beating her fallen foe that would push her to be able to do it
If anything it helps
Papa Schnee made she fight against the armor as a test if her continued the '' be selfish''for wanting to go to Beacon
This is evidence that weiss would actually be more interesting if she did'nt rely on her summons every time
Grim wolves, Grim bears, and Adam from the other trailers have appeared in the actual show. Totally called this knight thing appearing again too! XD
Can't wait to see Weiss summon this thing with a full-on Schnee makeover. It's gonna be EPIC!
Hmm, it would most likely look all pale blue I think
+JadeToniRitsa L Just popped in on the new episode on the RT site. Man, the right arms today
+MarineS0n2 literally that arm came in handy
Hermione 28 I know, just a massive round of applause for them. Put your hands together everyone!
+MarineS0n2 maybe not everyone
I dunno about you guys, but after the Volume 5 short, I've been watching this religiously.
I prefer these older trailers over the newest ones
These character trailers just have something that the newest trailers won't be able to have...
' and she later replies with ' I'm the loneliest of all, '
I love how the audience is empty, it represents how everyone praises her but in the end it means nothing because those praises aren't for her but her father, Jacques Schnee.
you are absolutly correctt ,butt one thing a have to say is that the volume 5 short was a flash back to before this short, you can see it in her hair and that she doesn't have a scar , manking this look like a weiss with less power.
at least that's what i got
Yang's strength is her, well, strength.
Blake's is her agility.
Weiss's is her endurance and dust.
Ruby's is her speed.
Together they would move so fast they could fell anyone in one slash of a sword.
Yang's weakness is her speed.
Blake's is her long combos (they leave her open to attack).
Weiss's is her attitude/personality (she's brash).
Ruby's is her fighting style (it involves her rushing in without a second thought)
very nice intake on this
Thank you!
no prob. it's very true though
Also, I like how all the initials of the characters correspond with their respective colors Ex: Ruby is Red. 2 R's.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Weiss Schnee".
I will always live this line and character for this exact trailer.
Love Weiss. She's hands down my favorite character. I'm so looking forward to more character development and insight into her family in volume 4.
When Weiss casts an attack, those circles remind me of those magic circles in Fairy Tail :3
Ikr? I REALLY hoped I wasn't the only one lol
Shiki Aura I know!! I thought that it was really cool ^^
Agreed
Its Gray as a girl minus the striping
Hhahahahahah
I wonder how many souls she got for that kill.
worldwar2freak12 How I imagine myself fighting silver and black knights with my crystal sage rapier tbh
Anybody here after Weiss' new trailer for vol. 5? This trailer still cannot be beaten
O.O, I can't believe she sang very well. Totally believable.
Also her combat, is amazing.
Wait...Thats you right? Why you speakin 3rd person o3o (Go with it XD)
Hmmmm, not really.
"Weiss Schnee wonders why everyone is confused about Weiss referring to herself in third person, said Weiss Schnee questioningly."
Internet cookie to whoever gets the reference :)
donjulioanejo and there's the To Aru' reference i was expecting
Fallenking43
cookie to anyone who can elaborate the reference
Weiss' OG costume will always be my fav rwby costume!!
[Just a minor theory/belief of mine.]
rapiers are better for light armor opponents
Sam .Bucktooth lol you just shut his theory down
I feel rejected. xD *her
can't believe it's 9 years ago when Rwby had its trailer
Ben Marchesani You're making me look like an idiot here. XDDD Jokes aside though, that was a great theory. Way better than mine. ^-^
Why thank you :)
Ben Marchesani
The show definitely shows the fear of failure in Weiss. I should add that Weiss first lets Ruby in when she hears the youngster express a similar need to prove herself. Camaraderie at its finest.
Hats off to you.
Volume 4 and still watching this.
MrLostLink same
same
Volume 5
MrLostLink same but 5
5 :)
bro they messed up her fighting style so much, the only reason weiss is my favorite character is because her fighting style was so elegant and ballet like, it was so cool to see her fly around the fight and use her rapier more :(
Weiss: Tell me who’s the loneliest of them all
Whitley: Yes, dear sister?
The writers: I'm just going to ignore that.
This opening quote fit so much with all the fandom right now that I begin to cry...
Goodnight Monty.
1:33 I can't express how much I love this part, it fits so perfectly with her fighting and it's amazing.
Is it just me or does anyone get a nostalgic feeling with the intro of mirror mirror with Fi singing from skyward sword?
i get it too i thought i was the only one Xd
It not just you my friend, not only you T.T
How do you get nostalgia Skyward sword aint even that old
Its the newest 3D zelda thats come out that isn't an HD Remake. Not counting link between worlds, because its still the top down scheme, 3d is only the graphics, not the engine.
i am
i remember when weiss used to have dancing incorporated into her combat, along with using different glyphs other than summons and having a much wider array of dust in use. now she just summons and swings her sword
"Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow, for the heart has no metrics or form of measure, and all of it....irreplaceable"
That line was powerful the first time I read it. And now it only resonates even deeper.
Rest in peace Monty Oum.
This show has come a long way since season 1. I'm happy to be a fan!
PEOPLE
The Main Characters are WAY stronger in their respective trailers than in the show because they have to start off weaker or else there will be no room for character development.
Yep :) Monty talks about this subject in the most resent game time :)
Except this was in the past and how Weiss got the scar in the first place.
Chiba Hiro Or the future, considering she doesn't have that scar in the actual show. It can go either way.
Who's here after watching episode 5 of RWBY Ice Queendom?
Me
same
I swear, more work was put into the fight choreography and effects for the trailers than the entirety of the series thus far.
I don't even
Agreed. Even though all they were really supposed to show were the abilities of each RWBY member (besides Yellow and Black, which were much more plot heavy). Easily the best fight choreography in the series bar none (Pyrrha vs CRDL comes close)
Kris Same! If they had actually don't like that, some people, might, not have, died...😖😫😩😭😭😭Why did she have to die!? Why?!?!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Discount k
Pyrrha vs WRDL was awesome :/
My friend wanted me to watch the trailers first so it make sense.
...yes.....
Mine did too
I regret not watching these
iloveedge496
😂 i never watched these so I’m gonna watch them now.
The sound effects sound like something you'd hear from a game that's a mashup of Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Legend of Zelda o.O
Have you seen Dead Fantasy? This and Dead Fantasy have the same creator.
I can't believe it's been 11 years, this was such a cool way to get to know RWBY
For those who haven't read the manga. It seems the knight is actually a possession type Grimm, or rather multiple small possession type Grimm inside of a suit(think hunters from Halo) that the Schnee dust company made. Defeating it was a challenge she had to overcome to be allowed to attend Beacon.
+tulicloure Yeah. And the fact that there are Grimm inside explains the way it disintegrated after being defeated.
+AngelWings Chapter 3 was recently translated into English. I'm sure you'll find it if you look it up.
+Coran Baker The manga is an original story, not written by Monty or the Rooster Teeth team.
I never want this series to end.. I love it so much.
GeometryDash Skolpis same
Well, the series hasn't ended yet. ^^
Though its a real tragedy that the creator Monty Oum passed away after the 3rd season...but some other people found his ideas for season 4...nd a bunch of season 4 episodes had already been released...R.I.P Monty Oum
well, very close, not, because, even if i loved mounty, he was TOO stick to the anime style.
+Enrico Nobili what are you trying to say =_=
i'd pick monty's original work over what other else rt can now provide :/
Can well take a moment here to look at this beautiful masterpiece by Monty. Not only did he make a fight scene a fight scene, but it held so much resemblance and told a story in it of itself. Pure art
Still better execution than Ice Queendom. The music is also fantastic, cant beleive they took it all out..
FACTS! Weiss is so powerfull in this
at least ice queendom is better than modern rwby
This is definately my favourite action sequence from RWBY thus far. Not the best trailer, but definately the best action sequence incredibly well choreographed and Monty did a great job showcasing both Weiss's skills as a fence-based fighter and as a glyph user. Fantastic.
mine is still the red trailer
UM4DBRO210
Whilst I do love everythnig about Crescent Rose, Ruby and how the duo work together I can't help but feel like less effort went into the Red trailer.
I think my list is:
4) Red
3) Yellow
2) White
1) Black
Which is saying something considering that the Red trailer is still awesome.
true, but all around, every fight scene is AWSOME, i wonder how long it takes them for each, also yea forgot that monty did do the red trailer all on his own didn't he
honestly i think the team should watch these early trailers again, there's so much these girls can do and they just don't use those abilities in the show
I know right if these version were still around they probably would've won
They know they can fight like this. They're not just creative or skilled enough to do it. I don't know how they managed to do that Neo vs Cinder fight, I have a feeling it's an old animation saved by Monty for a Yang vs Neo rematch because if you've noticed, Cinder is fighting with her hands instead of you know, her swords. When she finally uses her swords again, the animation goes back to boring.
Came back here again knowing Pyrrha manage to sing it on Rwby ice queendom episode 5 🥰
Remember when Weiss actually used Myrtenaster like an actual sword and not a wand?
I think you meant, "Remember when Weiss swung Myrtenaster around like a kid swinging a small stick until she finally used Dust to make it swing like a bigger, heavier sword"? It's absolutely tiring seeing y'all go full moron with nostalgia. Not only was she swinging it like a saber instead of lunging like you're supposed to with a rapier, she was making no headway until she used Dust to increase the impacts of her blocking, slashing, and piercing attacks. Myrtenaster has been far more useful as a casting focus than as a melee weapon, no matter what part of the show you're watching.
White is cold and always yearning burdened by the royal test...
Really miss Monty and really wish can see again this fighting style of Weiss 😭
Does anyone else miss weiss old fighting style I do. It was so good too bad after volume 3 it want down hill :(
yeah :(((
I beat Ornstein with a rapier build too.
+Kain Bloodshower Lol
Lol
+Kain Bloodshower This is now my favorite comment on youtube.
I knew I'm not the only one that the Giant reminded me of DarkSouls
+Kain Bloodshower ...............XD Yes.
