A lifesaver for me thank you very much. I'm on day 10 of a 10-day notice to clean up this grown large lot. I rented a Makita machine as the coil is going down in my shindaiwa. The rental shop is closed for the weekend. Young man who handed me the trimmer gave me some line and said a lot of people don't respool something like that. Thought I knew how to do that but I did not know this is a new animal. Also I was not able to use my phone to watch a video or any information on the internet as my charge port line failed. So you are the savior of the day. Thank you very much. I'm sole caregiver for my wife who had a major stroke it 44 I used to be a TV news reporter but she had that stroke in 2007 I quit work and now 24-7 full-time caregiver for my wife. My expertise is short-format video.. with that in mind, if I may make a suggestion that will Garner you many more viewers than what you'll have currently which will be a lot. My advice is break this video into two subjects not part 1 and part 2 it's going to be a different name for each video. Google likes short quick crisp video. The end viewer wants something that's quick to the point. and explained well by someone who knows what they're doing. That is you. I'm not saying talk faster I'm just saying look at your video and ask what you can leave off what's not important to this particular story. If you have something this important make a new video. call it something different but yes I think you did an excellent job on this video thank you so much for your work, very good, fine work.
Omg….I could hug you! I spent half of my afternoon trying to restring my new cordless Makita trimmer. I went over and over the instructions that came with the trimmer….. which were Greek to me! They need to hire you as a go to video on doing this! Thank so much!👍🏻
As others have mentioned, this video is FAR superior to others that I’ve watched, including Makita’s. Yours is very well-presented, clear and concise. Thank you MUCH for it.
@@SeidelRanch Im looking to buy one i am bit scared cuz it will my first electric machine! can it work on only 1 battery or i need to plug 2 to working ? if 1 can i work 20/30 min? with a 5ah? thanks !
Thank you for showing both ways. I’ve been using the first part of your video for about a year. The second part just helped me today because I could not feed the string through.
Thanks for the great video. I don’t understand why there’s not a better way that this could be designed to make it faster and more intuitive. Without this video I had no idea how to do this and what the various holes were. This seems like an invention waiting to happen.
Yeah, I have to admit these heads can be a challenge. I have been using bump heads for years and that is pretty much the only reason I am somewhat proficient with them. Even though I use them often, I still like this head better: ua-cam.com/video/JUl1kR8pZ5M/v-deo.html
Oh my gosh, Thank You. I have been battling restringing my Makita for months. I had a gardener help, didn't work. Had a neighbor help, still didn't last. My daughter and I decided to tackle it today and although we had to watch a couple of times, we got it working. Saving this for next time. Thank YOU!
I just bought this trimmer and wow, you explained it very very well! I'm impressed with this design. My old trimmer only has the cumbersome manual winding method and it always wants to unravel before I can slide the head back on. I'm gonna love this trimmer!
Great video! I bought a 175ft spool of the special Makita 0.08" string trimmer line. I cut off 13ft as per the Makita instruction manual, and filled the head using the second part of this video. I love it that the each part of my head was exactly as shown in your video, so it was easy to follow your excellent instructions. It was easy and works great!
Thank you my friend you would not believe how long I have been trying to do this even the manual is vague or I am perhaps haha thank you from Australia
Excellent instruction much better than Makita's. I put a shortcut of your video in Amazon. I spent a couple hours trying to follow the useless instruction from the manufacturer. Thank you!!!
I was not happy with this trimmer's loading feature shown in the manual and not fond of the trimmer for that reason. After watching your video, my opinion has changed for the better. Excellent job!!! Thank you!
Dude., thank you soooo much..., It sounds crazy but I've been messy with this task for a couple of hours - and in five minutes, you knocked it out... Well done sir., 😎
This was an excellent video! I am not at all mechanically inclined, but I watched this a few times and did the steps along with the video, pausing as necessary, and was successful! I got the trimmer at a friend's yard/moving sale so didn't have the directions. I love it - lightweight and so much quieter than gas trimmers. I bookmarked the video for future reference. Thank you!
Thanks for this awesome video! It's made very well and explains the change of the thread absolutely idiot proof. I accidently pulled to thread back to far and it didn't come out anymore. This helped me a lot!
Thank You so much for this very informative video. Makita could learn so much from you, their Brochures and Website is just useless. Keep up your great work
Thank you so much for this video. I love Makita but their support team REALLY let the brand down with the directions in the manual. I mean REALLY let them down. Thanks again.
Always liked my Makita trimmer but now that I know how to string it I’m so impressed with the way Makita made it SO EASY!!! Thank you! You da man! Question: What are the holes drilled into the spool for? They led me to believe that they were there to hook the string on when restringing but now I know that is not the case.
I didn't do the easy or hard way. did the medium way. had to take apart to get out loose line then snapped back together and did the easy, first way. works fine. tried to wind by hand using the harder way, but fought with me too much when i was tryi g to snap the outer ring back on. But thanks for video! Saved me much frustration I am certain.
Thank you, Makita have dropped the ball in some areas and in this case the instructions have no explanation. The pictures while do show how to restring it, your tuition is way much better but I doubt Makita would take note, thanks again.
Great video. Why would the second method ever HAVE to be used? If the line breaks off inside, couldn’t I just take the head apart, remove the line, put it back together, and then restring it the easy way?
You are correct. You don't have to manually spool it like I do in the second part. I just wanted to show the whole manual process in case someone needed it.
It's really hard to turn the head to reel in the line on my trimmer. I gave up on the 'easy' method and took it apart and restrung it the old fashion way!
Mine can be harder at times also. When you take it apart next time, look to see if anything is clogging it up. Mine will get built up grass and dirt in it sometimes. Clean that out if you see it. That may help.

The knob can still be installed on the spool in the wrong direction, but it will be slightly crooked. This will cause the problems that I had: a new string will not start through the holes, and it will be difficult to wind. On my old head, this pin was broken off. Wow, how have I missed this video for two years? Thanks much!
I had a problem with this head in that a new string would not start through the holes, and it was very difficult to wind!
*I purchased a new bump and feed head, thinking there might be an upgrade to the design.
However when I took them apart they appeared to be identical in every way.
But the old head still did not work and the new one did.
Upon closer inspection and a lot of time, I discovered the cause of the problem.
The bump feed knob can be placed on the string spool in two directions which are 180 degrees from each other! To prevent the spool from being placed in the wrong direction, there is a very very tiny plastic pin (1/8" long x 1/16" diameter) that protrudes up from the spool on one side.
The knob can still be installed on the spool in the wrong direction, but it will be slightly crooked. This will cause the problems that I had: a new string will not start through the holes, and it will be difficult to wind.

It was only when I compared it to the new head that I eventually discovered the problem. That teeny tiny little pin!!
In this video the black bump knob is never separated from the tan spool, but if you should separate the 2 pieces, be careful how you put them back together.
