I use those candles, but you can get ones that last 8 hours. But what I do is keep my used candles from the previous night. And that’s because the wax tends to stay unmelted around the rim of the used candles. I then use the heat from my new candles to melt the wax from the used ones, and then periodically and carefully pour the melted wax into my lit candles. For this I use my unhooking forceps so as not to burn my fingers! In that way I can extend the candle burn time to 12 hours. So I basically leave mine on all night in the winter. So the bivvy is always warm and has a nice bit of dull light.

I reckon that's an excellent idea - not only for fishing bivvies but also for anyone backpacking. It'll warm a tent just as well as a bivvy. So I'm going to make one. I don't go fishing so I don't have any fishing line tins but almost any tin about that size will do.

    • @4seasoncarping853

Great video. Thank you. Can you use a larger can perhaps a cookie tin? I would
like to use this to help warm up a small room, or bathroom if the electricity went
off. Thank you and best wishes from Canada.

I watched this the other day and didn't get a chance to comment. I made a variation of it and posted the video. I mentioned you in the vdo and added a link to your channel and this vdo in the description.. basically I turned the tin over and filled it with small rocks, you could use sand or local materials so you dont need to carry it, I dont have that problem as I will use it at home or in the van. It was still radiating heat after the candles were out, it was well over an hour before i could comfortably pick up one of the small stones I used...

Any added metal to the top would be a help, it would add mass, you could take washers and line a long bolt then cap it with a nut, band a few together and lay on top for the added mass, just an idea anyways. Good video, God bless

Easier just to take the 3 candles and light them side by side on a flat surface and or then HEATthe air in the room instead of a lid which ISN'T going to heat a small room.

DO NOT DO THIS... I've made mine this week, 3 screws etc same as shown and me and my pal said this is class blah blah he even said he was making one when we get back.
Started smoking when it got too hot so decided to blow it out!!!!!
It was like I'd put petrol on it, first time using this new brolly system was ALMOST ITD AND MY LAST!

So why not just take the 3 candles side by side and just light them on a board no canister at all!!! What in the hell is the purpose of the top and bottom of the metal canister the heat is going and doing the EXACT same thing regardless of the canister heatwise. No difference in heat whatsoever. Pretty stupid actually. All the candles are doing is heating the lid on the canister and not the room where as the candles just side by side heats the air in the room.
