Both my c sections were amazing positive experiences. I was terrified of vaginal birth and I was honestly almost relieved when my first child didn’t fit and I needed a c section. For me a c section was a wonderful positive experience. When people say you want to avoid them I find this point of view so limiting. Some women prefer them.

How did you manage after the surgery, from what i have heard it's really painful..you are in constant excruciating pain, can't move , can't sleep because of the stitches. Your body swells up , you vomit initially for few hours.
Is there a way to avoid or limit such side effects ?

Thank you for educating others on this topic- it's super important that we support each other and not associate shame to C-Section Mamas (like myself)- in many cases, a C-Section is out of the mom's hands, so it surprises me every time when people judge it. As someone mentioned below, Brandi Milloy seems so sweet but her experience is not as common so thank you both for sharing this side!

I was able to give birth to my baby boy vaginally and with no epidural. I know this is something very hard to do for most women, but I think women who undergo a c section are SO strong! @@laurenalmeyda6916 I think it's an unfair comparison to make because it differs so much woman to woman, baby to baby. I had a girlfriend who gave birth naturally about two months ago and she literally used the hashtag #whatlabour after she'd given birth because things went so smoothly and her recovery was so easy. I went for a natural birth and laboured for 28 hours ending in an emergency c-section and the recovery was rough and was in hospital for a week. Some women have exhausting, long and terribly painful natural labours and others have quick and smooth naturals. Others have chill c-sections where everything goes fine and the recovery isn't too bad and other times it can be a lot harder. You just never know what you're going to get. I'm having my second in ten weeks and I'm getting a bit nervous!

This video is spot on! My first csection was emergency. I have since had 4 all up, and luckily have had 4 wonderful csection experiences and in Australia you now get to go home 24 hours after surgery which I find great as I’m ready to get home to my family. Also I have found it so interesting that I seem to recover easier with every csection, I had my 4th 3 weeks ago and within a few hours from surgery I was up walking around minimal pain and the next day back home doing all my usual things. Thanks for helping to break some of the csection taboo ladies!

I'm pregnant with my first baby and since day one, my doctor asked me how I plan to give birth, I told him that I wanted to feel beautiful, no pain and I wanted to know the exact time and minute that the baby will be out. He smiled and told me "So we'll have a c-section, which is great because due to some of your health issues I was going to suggest that"
I was so happy that my doctor was in sync with me and my wishes! My husband is super supportive as well, but I've had TONS of people saying to me that I'm making a huge mistake by having a c-section.
No Karen, I'm not, it was previously discussed with my doctor and husband and this is exactly what I want. Pregnancy is a crazy ride! You don't need the comments and the judgments.

You do you girly! I had a vaginal birth with my first and ended up tearing so bad they were stitching me up for 40 minutes. The pain the I endured for weeks after is unlike anything I've ever gone through before.
I'm in my second pregnancy now and because of issues that I have going on (possibly due to what happened in the last birth) my doctor recommended a C-section and I've been considering my options.
Child birth is terrifying. Anything you can do to help yourself be calm and collected? Do it! Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Regardless of your decision, people will always judge. I chose natural for my first two, and got judged for not wanting an epidural. My aunt told me to "stop trying to be superwoman and just take the drugs". I said no, and stuck with my decision. Now my circumstances are different and I'm opting for an elective C-section for my 3rd. The options are there for a reason and you have to decide what's best for you and your health/the health of your baby.

For me labor was difficult, I was delivering my baby at 19 weeks and wasn't sure if he or she would make it. Sadly during labor she passed. It shouldn't matter if you had a baby vag or c- section as long as the mom and baby are healthy that is all that matters

First let me say, LOVE watching these videos and super glad you posted this. Two, as I am now expecting my second, I am told I HAVE to have a c-section again and I'm really unsettled with that. I'm also chronically ill (bad back, autoimmune and fibromyalgia) and am told no one will let a patient like me attempt a VBAC. So hearing positive experiences helps some what. My first experience was an emergency C-Section after 16 hours of hardcore labor but I just would not dilate for anything. My experience was so negative- I'd rather be in labor for 3 days as bad as it was the first time then have to deal with the recovery of another C-Section; and mine was considered a relative success. I think the hardest part in any of the birthing experience is choice. Feeling like your choices have been taking away from you sucks and then not knowing the outcome of something you didn't pick for yourself is that much harder to cope with. Third and finally, it will be 19 years between my first child and my second- I'm pretty sure things have changed since 1999. Do you think you might want to do a "What to expect when C-Sectioning" video? You know, like a play by play of a planned and emergency version plus post recovery to do/can dos/should dos? And maybe mention things like the post C-Section clot. That always seems to freak out first timers. LoL!

I think the main con for people is the judgement from other people. I chose to have a c section , and I never felt bad or guilty. I am the type that doesn't really care what people think or say about me especially when it comes to my body and what I do with it. My son who is 10 years old is top of his class and grade.. I am a single mom, who has an elective c section and formula fed my son.. so imagine I was worried what people thought of me.. I probably would be crying everyday

Thanx for this video. Had an all natural-no painkiller involved-vaginal birth with my firstborn that was celebrated as a success although I suffered a 3rd degree tear including a broken tailbone (no one ever took care of). So my recovery took extremely long. Could not sit without pain for weeks, could not walk up straight for at least a week, had my whole pelvis ace for a year after, still feeling my tailbone every time I have my period...now pregnant with my second I am seriously considering a scheduled C-section. Nothing can be worse than this first vaginal experience. Plus: The vaginal experience did also traumatized me and my husband...so, if somebody tried to shame me for choosing scheduled c-section this time, I’d honestly laugh at them.

At least someone admits this.. I had few "friends" before my son ce out and they all had scars on their vaginas and said they would still not choose c section... Mean while one woman told me that if she could choose she would do c section because her scar didnt heal fast at all and was so painful to even walk.. Of course when I told this to those "friends" I used to have... They started to become super defencive and said that its not like that at all.. And I said.. Well yes each body is different.. And some people are more sensitive and all.. And of course after my c section even knowing it was emergency and with clinical death of mine... They still chose to say that Im just not strong enough.. I just blocked their numbers and everywhere. Some people are just rude by choice..they can be whatever they want... Just as far away from ne as possible.. Interesting how many more years I would call them "friends" if there wasnt a c section :D so grateful for that.. Two snakes out of my life:)) really happy that there are people that doesnt lie about vaginal birth giving and how painful that is aswell... Both are Hard and painful and not to be conpared because thats just egoistic to think that one is better than the other. Both are DELIVERING baby and that is all that matters.. That babies are fine and finally meating their moms. Women that scream too much about saying one is better than the other doesnt understand that they have kids and will have grand kids and at some point they may have to experience that other option and realise that judging one or another of options(which are so many times not even a choise or option) they just ask karma to step in..

    • @laurencrouch764

Oh my gosh that would have been so difficult to go through. A broken tailbone is such a painful injury and not much can be done about it and usually it's never the same. I would talk to your midwife/doctor about your concerns because I would think that having a previous tailbone injury would effect a natural birth? Good luck!

I have permanent small deformities on my vagina due to my 2 vaginal.births ..one epidural one unmedicated....the unmedicated one worse..my son is 3 and I still Have to be careful washing myself or during sex. I even saw a surgeon about fixing it. I m about to have my 3rd child via c section due to placenta previa and I am scared but very glad to not involve the vagina this time. You really don't hear about birth injuries much and if you tear in the natural community then..you did it wrong!...thats basically what they say I think people are ashamed to admit if they tore or God forbid in a vulnerable moment ended up on your back pushing.

@@piepie6020 I had a scheduled c-section in December of last year. On #1 - you can take a shower as soon as you have your catheter and IV removed - about 24-36 hours after the surgery. It is somewhat painful to get up and do it, but the more you move after surgery, the better you will begin to feel. DO follow their instructions though about keeping your scar dry. I didn't have any problems, but have heard of people getting infections if they are not careful. On #2 - I obviously can't answer this, but I will say that you should take the medication they offer you. Take the IV medication and then take the pain killers they prescribe. They will help immensely. I tried to get off them as soon as I could since I know some of them go to the baby, but I took them for at least a week and they helped me to function! After about a week, I could live with just some ibuprofen. Again, the more you walk (to a point), the better you will feel. Try to do normal things and rest a lot. It's a process, but you'll be fine with the pain after a short while.

I am so happy to see a video from you about C-section... As for me, it was decided from 6 months that I will have to deliver throght c-section *my baby was in a seated position, he couldn't turn* which I really hated and I didn't want the day to come because I was so terrified and scared... but after the surgery I remembered I walked and I felt that my tummy will fall down it was so heavy to even walk.... what is funny that when I laught the next day I cried and laught at the same time.... but now I am glad it was C-section... but wanna experience the veganial birth... since I can't understand the pain....

I had PTSD from my emergency c-sec/birthing experience (and still do) because almost everything that could go wrong did go wrong for example, medication starting to wear-off mid surgery - they reacted quickly though and in the end my scar was done 'perfectly' according to many examiners post surgery. However, the recovery took me long, almost 6 months to not feel sore (even after a year and a half when I got pregnant again and they did the ultra sound, it hurt). All this stress contributed to the my milk supply being low and it took me a month to build up.
    __
With all that being said, I'm still grateful for it. My son and I wouldn't be here without it. I just wish I had watched this video during that time to help deal with PPD because I felt less than during the time and it was one of my biggest struggle. So it's nice to see this in a different light.

I’m having a scheduled c section because I’m 4’11” with a very narrow pelvis! My baby girl was already 7lbs 4oz at 36 weeks 😬😬 She was in the 98th percentile for growth the whole time so we knew early on I would probably be doing a c section. And I’m ok with that 😊 I also had a major laparotomy a few years ago which also puts me at a higher risk for so many things to go wrong.. so I’m happy with my decision and I’m so blessed everyone around me is so supportive! ♥️ Exactly one week from today I’ll have my baby girl in my arms 😁😁💕

Love love love this! I have had 2 c sections. First was an emergency c section and baby was 3 months premature, she was in the nicu for 3 months. That was traumatic but it saved my life and our daughters life. Second c section was not planned but baby came early again and was also in the nicu. Second c section was much easier to recover from. Birth is dangerous, I don't care what anyone says. A good friend of mine had a still birth during a vaginal delivery. And women still die in childbirth here in America. On women being shamed for a c section, I had one experience at Target: a stranger asked me when I was due. I was walking around Target with my mom, 2 weeks after my c section so my tummy was still big. I said I was two weeks postpartum and baby was in the nicu. I said I was walking around to help me recover from my c section. And she started saying rude stuff about me having a c section and I told her to stfu because this surgery saved my life and our baby's life. Unreal!

Some people just like to create bad karma for themselves... I hope she regrets it.. Otherwise we all know how karma works.... :) I had emergency c section aswell. And also clinical death. When ever someone tries to look down to me for that... I remember that moment when I was gone and they reanimated me and I smile because I know if there wasnt a c section... I would not be here. And my son wouldnt be here.. Now he is almost 4years old. And I am pregnant again and am planning c section. There are plenty of people telling me that its egoistic... But the truth is.. They never experienced what I experienced so they are just being ignorant and asking karma to create their future with lots of experience that will help them understand... Maybe not in this lifetime.. But I think that lack of empathy is the main problem in general in today society... So I feel like there is no reason to even respond anything to those people.. They just want to bring someone down.. Lets not be the ones they get successful on bringing down. When they get into our skin and goes trough all the same experiences, then they can share their opinions.. Otherwise its just them showing their lack of wisdom.
Im proud that so many moms understand that c section is not un natural. We are natural beings still and our Children aswell. And Who is who to judge others for Whatever they do or choose to do or want to do... People that have rude opinions mostly are just not having happy life themselves thats why they try to bring others down aswell. Misery needs company.. :) head up, all that matters i what is happening right now. We have our babies, we love them, they love us.. Who cares what anyone who is not part of our bond with our Children thinks.❤️

I don’t think people hate c-sections in general (or at least I would hope they’re not that ignorant), it’s that doctors corner women into them all the time because in many cases it’s more convenient for *them* (the Doctor) and they make more money. The stats really are there.
I do believe each mom should be able to choose how she wants to deliver her baby, but I just wish more moms were educated and encouraged about the truth and not just being fear mongered-whether that’s fear mongering about vaginal, natural, or cesarean births!

    • @hartmyndsole
      @hartmyndsole 5 років тому +14

EXACTLY! No one cares if you have a cesarean, but it's unjust for doctors to push it on women when there is no emergency and you aren't "progressing" in their eyes. :p

This wasnt true for me. I had preeclampsia and my doctor tried to inducd me for 2 days to avoid a cesarean..and after 2 days of induction i only was 1cm dialated and my liver enzymes and blood platelets were so low i had to have an emergency cesarean with general anesthesia because it was too risky to get epidural. For them a cesarean was only for emergencies sadly.

No judgment here, just facts. I would just like to add that a c-section costs $30,000 vs $5,000 for a vaginal delivery. We pay for this in our insurance and as taxpayers. Many women get free medical care when they are pregnant. (I work as an L&D RN in a hospital). It’s crazy, right? But true. If you don’t have insurance, you file for Medicaid and get free delivery. 95% of patients in my city are in Medicaid. Also, c-sections are major surgery and carry many more risks, including higher risk of hemmhorage and death for the mother and babies more frequently go to the NICU for breathing problems because they didn’t get squeezed.

For as long as I can remember I said I was going to do a C-Section because I was terrified of labor (this was me like 10 years before I actually had a baby). But then, the time came when I got pregnant and I actually asked my OB if I could do a C-Section. She said no. They’re not elective and only for emergencies. So I said ok, that’s fine. As time went on I was actually glad I wasn’t having a C-Section because the more I researched the more frightened I was for it. So I was happy my dr said no. THEN, I went into labor, 17 hours later and 3 tries trying to get the epidural IN correctly to relive my pain. I had a beautiful baby girl...who gave me a 3b degree tear! 😫 it was my first baby. And the recovery from that has actually traumatized me from having another baby. When I think about it makes me emotional. I hope that if I do decide to go through it again, the Dr will let me have a C-Section. 🙏🏼

My first son was basically forced out of my vagina by vacuum and an episiotomy through my rectal muscle after a 32 hour labor. I was left with a Rectovaginal Fistula because of the trauma to that area and my vagina is not what it was I’m still getting used to my “new” vagina after almost 2.5years. It took 2 surgeries to fix my Fistula which was a 7month ordeal, so you could say instead Of the 6-8week recovery mine took 7 MONTHS and almost $10k out of pocket since insurance wouldn’t cover my surgery! I’m now due with baby #2 in 3 months and am choosing elective csection this time around. Everyone including my new doctor says it will be so much easier to recover from a csection after the first experience I had. I appreciate both of your insights on csections.

My doctor, however made me feel so guilty about it. The way she asked me already made me feel like I gave her the wrong answer. It was something like, "so, vaginal birth, right??". Ugh, even my best girl friend, who had two smooth vaginal births keeps pushing her ideals and experiences on me...almost shaming me for not allowing myself to at least try to experience something beautiful that every mother should go through. I keep changing my mind now, but regardless I'm quite annoyed some people can't understand that it's my body, and my decision.

I had an emergency c-section after a failed induction that I was pushed into at 41 weeks. I labored 11 hours without pain medication before my doctor came in and told me I was not progressing, I was feeling ALL the pain, and it was getting dangerous for baby and myself. My son and I are very bonded. I still was able to breastfeed. I’m hurt that I couldn’t deliver naturally, without any medications. I used to feel a lot of shame because I had a FAILED birth plan. I’m currently pregnant with my second and despite having been told I would be a prefect candidate for a VBAC, I’m having a scheduled c-section.

I have had two c-sections. The first was an emergency c-section and the second one was planned at 38 weeks because my blood pressure kept increasing as the weeks went on (tried bed rest and medication to control it, but it just didn't work). I am not ashamed of my c-section, but I do perceive that when you tell your story about your c-sections, people don't really believe you and assume that it was by choice. Why is that? And with that, comes judgement.

I had a natural, unmedicated birth and I am just coming to grips with how traumatizing it was. I tore BAD, and yes ladies, if your Doula says that all you feel is ¨warm pressure¨ that´s bullshit, perhaps you are one of those women but you just don´t know, I felt myself split in 3 different ways when my son came out and it was the most excruciating pain you could EVER feel. My vulva which was a 10 at the time (seriously, I had a model, perfectly symmetrical, beautiful ¨omg¨ type of vulva) is now destroyed along with my self esteem. I always knew I wanted a C section but when I moved to Colorado, the hippie dippie ¨natural birth movement¨ went to my head and having a Doula actually made it worse as she took all the TRUE fear of a vaginal birth away, without ever being straight up about the things that could go wrong. Hello pelvic prolapse... Anyways, I´m now saving money for plastic surgery down there and I no longer care who judges me, to each their own. I CARE deeply about the way my girl looks down there and ¨accepting¨ is not enough for me. I´m going to do what I can to repair the damage even though I know this will never be 100%. There is not a SINGLE day that I don´t regret sticking to my guns about having a C section. So girls out there who are really scared of a vaginal birth and just don´t want to fucking do it-stick to your guns, don´t worry about the judgement, it´s YOUR body, YOUR choice. NOTHING WRONG WITH ELECTING A C SECTION!

I’m only in two days after having an unplanned emergency c-section and it is so painful, I did an all natural vaginal with my first and I would’ve definitely preferred having another vaginal over a c-section, but I didn’t have control over that and I think that left me a little traumatized. After my vaginal one I was able to get up, walk, shower, etc. My baby boy is in the NICU but I’m grateful that he’s here, that’s all that matters!

I had an emergency csection and I also felt like I failed as a mom. I was put under general anesthesia, so my husband couldn't be with me. My daughter was breeched. Then a couple weeks ago I had an unmedicated Vbac with my son. Both deliveries were difficult, but I'd try for another vaginal delivery next time!

I was put under and while been under I started to alucínate and recovery was so painful !!!!😖 😣 now pregnant again I’m also terrified and my anxiety is not helping either just thinking about what’s going to happen during labor 😢😭😦😦 . I talked to my obyn she asked if I wanted more babies in the future I said no then she suggested C- section! Again??? 😣😯😦 I let her know I’m terrified
