    my fabia developed mold problem as rear left door panel is leaking rainwater, it was not driven much this winter, and awfull weather in Istria for three straight months of clouds fog and rain (and also forgoten wet and muddy sock left after some sporting event). I tried to fix the leak few years ago following Harvey's instructions with modest results, sometimes it leaks sometimes not, maybe depending on tilt of the car on the parking spot affencting the path of rainwater inside door panel. mold has grown on floor, all seats, steering wheel and some plastic parts in last two weeks. first i cleaned interior using bathroom wet wipes, like 100+ of them in addition with industrial rubbing alcohol and some spray for non-wet cleaning. when interior was clean from visible mold and usual dust, i sprayed alcohol, and carpet cleaner on floor mat and seats and vacuumed it wet with shop vac. it took me nearly 5 hours to clean. cleaning products were from Croatian brand Arf. i also used upholstry foams from Lidl but they are not very effective. luckly I had two spare hairdryers to speed drying proces, but I think in 10-15 days I will repeat process if wheater is favorable, maybe also take off front seats and all door panels. in meantime i'll reseal door panel with Sika silicone for marine application or similar, and add a layer of pvc foil inside door panel just in case. maybe i will run two hairdrayers indside car for half hour a day next 30 days, or i will just do my sport trainings in other city 20-30 miles away, so the car is used a bit more :)

    • @vivaparenzo
      @vivaparenzo Рік тому

      all in total i used 120 Arf wipes (wet with bathroom desifectant), quarter liter of alcohol, two liter of water with Arf carpet cleaner 5:1, interior spray no residue cleaner for electronics and cars, 3 upholstery foam cans, clima refresh spray, 2 cabin air filters (one to use temporary until warm sun can heat car to 40 C ). now I suspect some mold left underneath the front seats, but 95% is gone for sure, i will now see how thing turn out, but the fact is I have a very clean car, so what was before an awfull task, now is a challenge to prevail as an intelligent human over stupid mold.

      Thanks for sharing your story. You sure have had it tough cleaning like that, hope it improves. The front door panel also suffers from water ingress so worth doing that one. mine is left and unused for the last 2 years and was reasonable dry up until recently (video) now I also will have to go through a similar cleaning process :-( then happy :-)

      This is the second time it's happened, but don't know the exact reason, but both times the weather had been very wet and damp for a prolonged period. Also the car wasn't used that much at the time and was stood a while without being used. So my guess would be moisture buildup on the various contacts in these circuits :-)

      So on a car mechanic only app i found that people fixed it, IF theres a FAULT CODE in the Central Locking Control Module , with replacing both window motors.
      I think as you already said check the wiring harness from door to body, and the doorlock and doorlock switch.
      IF there is NO FAULT stored (and wiring , lock are oke) it is probably a malfunction of the central locking control module (my guess) and since it is opening both windows, like the comfort function coded in to the module, i would disable comfort window unlock with VCDS. If there is more info someday i will add.

      It is a safety feature, but I agree, so annoying. if you want to change it you need vagcom and change the setting of the auto-lock function by control module 46 central conv/adaptation 10 "press up" "Auto-Lock" change the values to 0 etc etc then they will just open the whole car. Get someone with vagcom to do it for you. Fabia is rust coloured to match same now :-)

    Had this problem on my mk1 when it was about 8 years old - car unlocked and windows wound down on their own. I drove around with the window fuse removed for about 6 months to stop it happening. The problem disappeared when I replaced the battery (someone at work suggested that). Seems to be related to low battery voltage and a deliberate feature.
    I have heard of Mondeos doing the same thing - doors unlocked, windows down and electric sun-roof open, so not just Skodas.

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  Рік тому

      I like your use of the word 'deliberate' for what your possibly saying is it may have been intentionally 'designed in' so we all have to have good healthy batteries in case possibly of inadvertently locking someone inside our cars. Who knows? I'm sure some discussions go on that the public aren't aware of - hmm interesting!? ;-)

    Electric window controlers on pre-facelift Fabia are comunicating on CAN. When you lock the car the Door locks control unit (Komfort unit - can-adr:46) or Central electrics control unit (can-adr:9) should disable window units so they will not react to imputs from window switches. Not sure which of the control units does this, probably booth since windows should stop working even when the car is not locked ignition is turned off and one of the doors was opened. Rooling down/up of windows by holding key in the door lock works with CAN communication too.
    The story is quite different in post facelift models. There electric window controlers are on separate comunication, one wire LIN, other car systems (Central electric unit or Komfort unit) dont even know power windows are installed on car. Disabling of window control units, rolling windows down/up using key in lock are done by separate wires from Central electric unit. So on pre-facelift models power windows should misbehave only as a consequence of faulty door locks. On post-facelift models more can go wrong, but most of the time it is broken cables in door cable gromets (mk.I Fabia pain point :D) for both models.
    This reminds me, on pre-facelift models it is posible (but not easy) to program in a function which will roll windows up/down by pressing and holding buttons on FOB.

      @@HatBoyHarvey I read about it on czech skoda-home forum few years back. As far as I remember it would be simple modification but you have to change some values directly in EEPROM of window control units, that means it requires VAG-Commander or something like that. Sadly i couldnt try it back then, i had access to only post facelift Fabia's and that modification doesnt work there.

    - behind battery, on strut tower
    - below battery, on side member

      Have a look at the connectors and wiring on the B pillar first: ua-cam.com/video/ohW65TyZp_o/v-deo.html then may I ask if you have ever changed the drivers side door lock mechanism? If not then this is often the reason the door won't open, but try the wires behind the bellows first. If you can get the panel off you can check the connections through to the lock also, but if it is this lock then it will be trick to remove with the door being locked.

    Hi there, great video. This method didn't quite fix my wife's Fabia window issues.

      Have you changed the battery in the key fob, lights up and made sure car bat has high charge? Have you looked at the wires going into the drivers and passengers door panels behind the rubber gator on the A pillars for chaffing and connection issues with the plugin connectors? By all means check the connections with the control module. Check the connections to the window switches, test to see if power is at switch, replace switches. Replace drivers door lock

    Maybe you can use an ozone generator to remove any hidden mould I have a smell in my fabia probably from having foggy windows in winter from the inside and moisture, in my area the air humidity in winter is up to 70% I thought about using ozone but I am worried because the ozone gas is corrosive and I don't want to risk having rusty seatbelt mounts, airbag, seat mounts (there is a little bit of rust on those gotta fix it in the summer),... But in winter you can smell the exhaust in the interier during a cold start and I think the smell is from the exsahust gases because the engine has a blown head gasket and the engine is burning coolant so there is a chemical smell sometimes and It is seeping into the seats and interior becouse it smells mostly in winter even without the engine running I can remember we had the smell in the car when I was a kid and on long trips we would get little bit dizzie but the smell stopped for a while and came back any idea how to remove the exsahust smell from the seats after I fix the leaking exsauhst?

      Thanks, I've never heard of an ozone generator before so I'll look into that one, may a good idea to remove the mould spores ;-)

    • @adinko7
      @adinko7 Рік тому +1

      @@HatBoyHarvey Yes it combines 3 oxygen atoms into one molecule O3 the air we breathe has oxygen in O2 molecules (2 oxygen atoms combined) the mould can't breath so it dies it even kills insects, anything that needs oxygen to live dies becouse all of the oxygen is converted to ozone so they can't breathe, the ozone gets everywhere when you turn on the ac in recirculation mode the ac is desinfected and it helps distribute the ozone in the car. The car takes around 1-2 hours to thoroughly desinfect but it has to be completely closed and the ac on recirculation and you need to ventilate the car after the treatment becouse the ozone is harmful to humans in high concentration. But don't worry when you open all the car doors for 5 minutes it vents out and even when some ozone is stuck somewhere it will breake down to oxygen again. You can even use it in your house and you can rent the generator. But let the fabia be outside with it turned on just to be safe:). Sorry for my long comments.

  • @komoonkh

    This can be caused by a lock too. I was shopping last week and it was freezing. I took out my key from the door but it kept sticked inside the lock and both my windows opened ( it should do that, when you hold the key in) and I had to close it manually and jiggle a key inside to stop it from doing it again. Weird.

    • @komoonkh
      @komoonkh Рік тому

      But my central locking might be the reason also, I can lock the whole car from drivers side but from the passenger side, it locks every door except the drivers.

At the end of last year it gave me this problem once and then after a few tens of minutes they started working, a few days after the new year I took the car and they no longer worked and they remained like that, I will do further investigations by pulling down the door panels and also taking a closer look at the electric motors and their connections, and again at the junctions between the doors and the car with the continuity tester. I will return with a message/comment as soon as I manage to start working on the car, I also have a problem with the AC air conditioning which also gave me problems then stopped working and I hope it is the control panel which I already have one for change.
