Every time i watch this my soul hurts. What a brave kid. You can see that he was told to smile for the camera and does as he's told even though there's pain behind his eyes.

It’s amazing and he’s so young, but obviously its only for the pathe film, the little boy is so sweet, but I’m glad when I was a child I started hard work in London in 1972 while still at school at an engineering company every day after school, learnt so much, now I own a very successful engineering company. Hard work pays, but be safe.

Fun fact: The child in this film was NOT a chimney sweeper.
The film "The Three Year-Old!" was made in Berlin somewhere between 1929-1930, depicting a child joining his Dad for a day of work cleaning chimneys along with a matching set of tiny tools 😂. They're also using outdated tools for cleaning chimneys, by the 1930's they already a method to clean chimneys without having to go onto the roof.
Germany was also the first to make child labor laws, not the best ones but laws restricting child labor nonetheless. The UK followed soon after in 1843, prohibiting children under the age of 14 to work as chimney sweepers. German then revisited the law in 1903, making it illegal for children under the ages of 10-13 to do it aswell. But all countries frowned upon using very young children for such gruesome jobs, well before the laws were made so it wasn't common.
In summary, this was just made to be a funny film. Dressing up children as chimney sweepers was also seen a charm of good luck in the 1900s. The toddler was not working in the chimneys 👍🏻. Yet......😈

He’s still doing the same work at 94, of course times have changed and brushes have advanced but old Bill still uses his dad’s old brush to clean the chimneys. He’s old skool after all. Bill’s kid helps him everyday too, he’s 75 and hopes one day to take over the business. It’s all good 👍

But keep in mind, the practice of using children as chimney sweepers was officially abolished in September of 1875 after a 12 year old kid named George Brewster died while cleaning a chimney after he got stuck. He was the last child to die doing it. So this child may not have been a chimney sweeper at all as this is a silent film from 1933 but it still saddens me to the core and makes me very emotional.

You used to take your kids with you to work. It's no different in other countries. This video is taken out of context, the kid isn’t actually a chimney sweep because child sweeps were long gone by then and it was illegal, it’s actually just a joke thing that people did where they dressed their kids up as chimney sweeps, notice how his tools are mini versions of actual tools and wouldn’t be practical to use
