One of my husband's favourite songs; he once sang it on a flight with incredibly bad turbulence. Adding to the humour was his seat mate started singing along with him. They'd never met before.
I love this song, I binged all his songs I could find after I discovered him thanks to your channel, and I was surprised how many are still relevant. Thank you for providing me one of my new favorite artist
I too love Tom Lehrer. I am not sure 'surprised' is the correct term for how relevant they still are, 'depressing' seems more appropriate for many of them. ;-)
If you go to his website (believe it or not he's still alive) he has recently released all of his works to the public domain. It's not clear though how long his material will remain up there.
Fun Fact: Tom Lehrer released all of his music into the public domain a couple of years ago. He has a website set up for people to download the mp3s and sheet music.
When you ask what’s wrong with old people, and why they can’t seem to understand how life is now, remember some people still alive today grew up in that terrifying reality.
Ok but, this one is good!! Nowhere near as.... Horrific and traumatic as the usual stuff. Not to say I don't love the usual stuff!! Just that this leans more to the fun side 😅😅😅
One of his best songs in my opinion! I think this video would be even funnier if you included the line about the bomb but maybe there's some censorship reason? Still, it's once again great and I'm forever grateful for discovering the incomparable Mr Lehrer through your videos!
I love your channel and how you do this. Thank you, believe it or not it’s very uplifting. And ya gotta love Tom 😂, nobody does it like him. Am I grew up with this. I used to listen to little Jimmy Dickens sing the “Birds of Paradise “ song, my dad would sing that one all the time.
@@AlexLopez0506 Yep. That's why I said "at first". Though to be fair you could have thought that it took me some time after finishing hearing the song to work it out. Best wishes.
Um... given the current state of the world? Climate change, Big Brother AI, lost empathy, dictators & nuclear war? The new Bird flu?? This song might be right 🥶
Love him. It’s amazing we haven’t done this yet. But don’t let North Korea will bring us together. Unless of course we bring them the Sears catalog Into their Island. Get the picture? Read the book.
I used to think Serj Tankian from System of a Down had a totally unique voice. It extremely obvious that he was extremely heavily influenced by the OG GOAT, Tom Lehrer, Its completely on brand for Serj..... props to the older relative that exposed Serj Tankian to this awesome stuff when he was young. This must have been the counter-culture of the day, occupying the same cultural niche that's filled by metal and rap etc today. The music is different, but that familiar FU nihilistic attitude and intelligent, politically motivated etc lyrics and music are present in songs separated by ¾ of a century.... and despite being a 'joke' song, this is technically complex and extremely well played by very talented musicians, which is another trait shared with Metal in particular (Metal musicians are the absolute peak of musical technical ability, just listen to some Mr Bungle or some Devon Townsend or some Ministry or some Infant Annihilator or some Napalm Death.....or, perhaps, even some System of a Down lol)
I love these messed up Fallout songs. If you want to hear more of those, I'll advise to listen in on the songs of the Fallout games. Those are real old songs! One of my favourites is Atom Bomb Baby by The Five Stars (from 1957).
The true tragedy is that it wasn't feasible to tweak this so that the violinist and cellist made some agonized eye contact. We can sure imagine it, though!
Hahaha I love “We Will All Go Together When We Go”. It’s a hilariously dark song that sounds so upbeat and I always enjoy that kind of subversive humour. Thank you and keep at it! 🫡😂👍🏻

Oh that is absolutely delightful
Oh, that's just brilliant!
🤣🤣🤣
Yea they're besties now 😂😂😂
And then, the entire plane got up and started clapping.
"When the air becomes Uranious, we will all go simultaneous" goes hard lmao
Thank you Fallout for helping keep this genre bumpin.
I’m amazed this wasn’t in fallout 4
Really, we ought to thank Hen3ry and his thoughts about life and sewage.
I love this song, I binged all his songs I could find after I discovered him thanks to your channel, and I was surprised how many are still relevant.

If you love Tom Lehrer, take a look at Roy Zimmerman - a contemporary musical satirist that nails modern day problems!
I too love Tom Lehrer.

I first learned of Tom Lehrer in 1976, and have been a fan ever since. Thank you Betsy for keeping him and his music alive.
...so just after he quit?

he's the goat
I feel like this song should be in Fall Out.
Same
Going Nuclear , at least it will be quick! I’ll enjoy your videos in the meantime 😎
Only if you're in the blast zone.
I remember this and all Tom Lehrer songs. Loved em! I think "Vatican Rag" was my favorite.
When you ask what’s wrong with old people, and why they can’t seem to understand how life is now, remember some people still alive today grew up in that terrifying reality.
TOM LEHRER TUESDAY! I've been waiting for this all week.
I would like to thank Dr. Demento for introducing me to Tom Lehrer in the 70s.
Perhaps Betsy could do a video featuring the Masochism Tango.
I love the strained rhymes. Classic.
LMAO LOVE her facia expressions! LOVE LOVE LOVE her choices in song!!! BRAVA!!!
Tom Lehrer is a very genius satiric musician.
Same done a song abiut verner von braun.
"When the rockets climb up and the buildings fall down as is the success of verner von braun."
Love your content, Betsy! 💌
This is up there with Always Look On the Bright Side for me. Catchy nihilism ftw
I wanna see the reaction of this generation after listening to any Tom's songs like this
Occasional winces, many chuckles
I played "be prepared" to a class of 16yos. I think most of it went over their heads
everyone drink your koolaide, its yummy
I was going to reference Jonestown, you beat me to it!
Tom Lehrer is a classic!!!
I love Betsy's funny esprecions!!!
Helpfully meant: ' expressions '. 🙂

My writing isn't good.
@@christianmendez8299 that's okay.
Exactly. She does it well.
The looks like Betty Boop😅
I love how well you edit the songs, there's never a jarring cut off at the end or in the middle were you did the cutting.
I actually remember this song well.
My parents had this on 78rpm and I loved it, always have, as well as the rest of Tom Lehrer
Tom Lehrer, keeping it positive more than 60 years!😊
Crazy to think the guy who wrote this song also invented the Jell-O shot lol
one my favorites
Love to see another violinist, and a cellist too!
Sounds like something that could have been in Fallout.
For some reason that record break actually scared me this time

Cuban missle crisis, nuclear doomsday was so close all you could do was make a funny song about it.
I was only 4 at the time; but, I remember hearing this song.
considering the fact that tom's cover story for working in the nsa when it started was working on nukes...i see where he got this idea
This must be played at my wake yall. Just to make peeps worry for a sec

I hate the GOP for making this relevant again.
I love her questioning eyes at “adject”.
Cold War Fallout shelter drills for elementary school children. 1962 I was in kindergarten 😒🫣
Me too
And the world is even more insane now than then.
Tom has so many good songs. Always makes me want to go listen to the full versions after watching these shorts. XD
This cut doesn't make it clear, at first, whatever Lehrer was talking about - nuclear annihilation.
It's pretty clear. Time period, plus "universal bereavement" and "when the air becomes uranious."
@@AlexLopez0506 Yep. That's why I said "at first". Though to be fair you could have thought that it took me some time after finishing hearing the song to work it out. Best wishes.
What a jolly song about nuclear Armageddon! It makes it sound like quite good fun...

Good question!
Like 80% she does is Tom Lehler, like this one, so I'd search for those 🙂
I remember my father loving this song and my mother HATING it. She did not find it funny.

Terrifyingly relevant again...
" For if the bomb that drops on you

There'll be nobody left behind to grieve! "
Everyone talking about Eminem being the god of rap, but has he ever rhymed "funeral" with "sooner or later"?

Comfort music. Why wasn’t this included in fallout
Can't wait to see the fallout from this. Colour me E. M. P., I mean I. M. P, impressed.
Tom Lehrer I knew it even before he started singing.

I see her handling a harmonica, a violin, a cello. Are there more instruments she can play?

this and the masochism tango are my favorite :)
Not just an accordionist, but you play violin and cello too!
I read the tag line after he finished the song.....😮💯🔥😉
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy that The Great Tom Lehrer is Having a Moment!
This has gotta be coming as a Fallout outro.
When's the Jim Jones class reunion again?
I think she looks very nice in the lighter yellow dress
