    In terms of what the Coast Guard does, they are one of the better organizations that exist.

    I was in the Sea Cadets as a teenager in Mobile, AL and our instructor was a mechanic out at Coast Guard Air Station in Mobile. We helped the night time flight line crew by learning about aircraft handling and washing the aircraft. Was the time of my life.

    it depends if there are delays. 1) You need to be an officer, so 4 yrs at the academy or OCS 2) IFS can be a few months 3) API is about 6 weeks 4)Primary takes at least 6-9 months, 5) advanced takes about 6-9 months, THEN you get winged and start this 5 week training and then you start training as a co-pilot. it takes FOREVER lol

    Most procedure simulators can. Although the only procedure for a tail rotor failure is to auto-rotate while maintaining keel effect.

    I feel like if anyone saw this video and then got on a small boat that they could pick up Mr Bilben's voice. No disrespect Sir!!
    I am a Surfman in the NW and our station works under the MH-60T twice a week. I am also the Training Petty Officer at my station and talk to the Training Officer of the AirSta regularly. I was surprised to find out, through conversation during a face to face training day, that the USCG almost NEVER uses the auto hover functions in the helicopters, and that they actually fly these mothers almost every minute they are in the air. I was also told that the Navy exchange pilots have a hard time adjusting to our standards of flying specifically because of that.

    How would you go about becoming a Coast Guard helicopter pilot straight out of high school? Do you need any prior training or can you go to a school like this and learn Aviation Training right away? I know there are prerequisites such as being physically fit, but are there any credentials needed to begin learning to fly?

    • @jakevolin4226
      @jakevolin4226 11 років тому +2

      To fly a helicopter in any branch of the military requires a person to be an officer, which means there isnt a way to do it just out of high school. Go look on the AF or Navy Website for more info

      I think u have too be a officer. But u can get u civ pilot license pre hand before u join what ever branch ur planning on joining. You'll have the best chance of becoming a aviator in the army or CG. Good luck

    • @tyroneventer3790

    its not something that you might want to do, it should be something that you know 100% that you want to do. Don't think that "might" will cut it, its an insult to those that actually do this, you don't just walk in there.

      yes

    • @Dogmeat1950
      @Dogmeat1950 9 років тому

      Kathleen Biederstadt Yes there are women, I knew a Female Officer in the USCG that flew both Fixed Wings and Choppers it's one of the few branches in the military were Pilots can one day be flying a chopper and the next be flying a fixed wing. but for the most part very few officers train to fly both.

  • @SlickSpencer8live
    @SlickSpencer8live 12 років тому

    Well regarding to the fact that I am not in the Coast Guard doesn't really help. A 2 minute video to get kids excited about joining the video showing that this is simple doesn't help. Because that "is"misleading. And if I get into the CG then I will explore it more but it's something that I "might" want to do. But if there going to take that as an insult then they need to get over it. More stuff to worry about then someone that is posting a comment on UA-cam.

    Someone who "might" want to do it would probably not make it. Its kind of a yes or no decision. Yes the video makes it seem like training is easy "only 5 months" -misleading indeed, to idiots mainly. Since USCG is a smaller branch of the military and has a high retention its not as easy to get into than other bigger military branches like the Marines for example.

    Cheers for the Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Rozardner Flying Bird Reality (just google it)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for how to get pilot license minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my old buddy Taylor got cool results with it.
